Abstract:
Mercury chlorides decompose arenetitanium(II) complexes by redox reactions, e.g. Ti2+ + Hg+ → Ti3+ + Hg0, and thus inhibit their catalytic activity in the cyclotrimerization of butadiene. The effect of mercury chlorides added to the TiCl4-Et3Al catalytic system depends on their ratio to organoaluminium compound. The cyclotrimerization activity is preserved when a sufficient excess of the latter is present, ensuring the reverse reduction of Ti(III) to Ti(II). A high cyclotrimerization activity and selectivity of the catalysts are achieved if Ti(II) is converted to trinuclear Al-Ti-Al complex un

Abstract:
Bacteria were completely eliminated from rice seeds following immersion in household bleach solutions (50% bleach and 2.6% NaOCl) adjusted to pH 7.0 in 0.5 M potassium phosphate, while fungi were eliminated at pH 5.0 and below. Mercuric chloride was used to disinfest non-dormant rice seeds in order to test the direct effect of sodium hypochlorite on rice seedling growth apart from an indirect effect related to elimination of microbial contaminants. Seeds were immersed for 2 h in each solution or water in each of the following treatments: (i) sterilewater followed by sterile water, (ii) HgCl2 (

We undertook a study to evaluate Streck tissue fixative (STF) as a substitute for formalin and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in fecal preservation. A comparison of formalin, PVA, (mercuric chloride based), and STF was done by aliquoting fecal samples into each fixative. Stool specimens were collected in Haiti, and parasites includedCyclospora cayetanensis, Giardia intestinalis,Entamoeba coli, Iodamoeba butschlii,Endolimax nana, Ascaris lumbricoides,Trichuris trichiura, Strongyloides stercoralis, and Necator americanus. Preserved stools were examined at various predetermined times (1 week, 1 month, a

The mammalian Rh (Rhesus) protein family belongs to the Amt/Mep (ammonia transporter/methylammonium permease)/Rh superfamily of ammonium transporters. Whereas RhCE, RhD and RhAG are erythroid specific, RhBG and RhCG are expressed in key organs associated with ammonium transport and metabolism. We have investigated the ammonium transport function of human RhBG and RhCG by comparing intracellular pH variation in wild-type and transfected HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney) cells and MDCK (Madin–Darby canine kidney) cells in the presence of ammonium (NH4+/NH3) gradients. Hazel (Corylus heterophylla Fischl) is an important nut tree grown in China, especially in Liaoning Province, and is rich in nutritional and medicinal values. In August 2011, leaf spotting was observed on hybrid hazel (Dawei) leaves in Paotai Town, Wafangdian County of Liaoning Province. By August 2012, the disease had spread to Zhangdang Town, Fushun County. Symptoms initially appeared on both sides of leaves as pinpoint brown spots, which enlarged and developed into regular, dark brown lesions, 3 to 9 mm in diameter. The lesions were lighter in color in the center compared to the margin. To

A simple, rapid, reliable and novel titration procedure for the mercurimetric assay of metformin hydrochloride (MHCl) based on measurement of the chloride content of its hydrochloride salt is described. In this experiment, initially a synthetic mercury(II) thiocyanate [Hg(SCN)2] indicator was prepared by titrating mercury(II) nitrate [Hg(NO3)2] against potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) in the 1:2 stoichiometric ratio using ferric nitrate [Fe(NO3)3]. After addition of a known amount of Hg(NO3)2 to the indicator, the solution was further titrated against the aqueous solution of MHCl until the origina

Two great favourites are “the abolition of distance” and “the disappearance of frontiers”. I do not know how often I have met with the statements that “the aeroplane and the radio have abolished distance” and “all parts of the world are now interdependent” (1944). It is worth revisit
