ABSTRACT With Hitler’s conquest of France almost complete, both Shaw and Prime Minister Churchill, the latter with evidence of a planned German invasion of Ireland, separately tried to persuade the Irish Free State to abandon its neutrality to help England, which President de Valera did not do. Privately, Shaw also proposed that Churchill prevent France’s navy from falling into Germany’s hands by declaring war against her, a pro forma action designed to move her fleet to British ports. Meanwhile, Churchill and General de Gaulle planned to merge their countries into one nation, which gratified

On the occasion of its Eight Annual Meeting (Mainz, September 1997), the Society of Young Researchers in Civil Law tried to sum up the present-day discussion on 'Europeanisation of Private Law'. In the context of German legal scholarship, necessity and desirability of this process are still controversial even among younger authors. In the continental tradition of strict separation of public and private law, the EC remains a phenomenon to be described and controlled in terms of constitutional law. The actions of such a phenomenon with reference to private law relationships, therefore, appear as

The author emphasizes that using the two concepts "obligation" (Verpflichtung) and "duty" (Pflicht), G.V.F. Hegel believes that the first has a legal basis, while the second has a moral basis. The key difference between them is the presence of a certain mindset, that is, a subjective belief, setting. Through my last lengthy writing project, it did not take long to I realise I had become obsessed with paths. The proof of it was there in my notebooks, and, most prominently, in the backlog of photographs cluttering the inner workings of my mobile phone. Most of the photographs I took had a couple of things in common: first, the astonishing greenness of the world they were describing; second, the way a road or path or corridor or pavement or trail led off into distance. The greenness was because I was in England, in summer, and mostly in a part of the country where green seems at times the onl

Abstract For many years it has been asserted that French industry has beenreluc tant to adopt a high degree of concentration, and has only belatedly followed-often not before the 1960s-the American or even the German model. This has proved to be true for a certain number of industries, for example the steel industry, and the chemical industry, where, as shown by Jean-Pierre Daviet, no merger on the scale of IG Farben in Germany or ICI in Britain took place, despite some advanced negotiations in the mid-1920s. The move towards higher concentration was often encouraged by external influences. Th

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles are used commonly in various applications due to their high catalytic activity. Many of these applications require subsequent treatments after the deposition of the TiO2 particles. Some of these include thermal processing at high temperatures, e.g. roof tiles. For all of these applications, the crystal structures as well as the microscopic properties are essential. Thus, sintering severely affects the catalytic activity in most of the cases. During thermal processing, the nanoparticles transform from the catalytical highly active anatas structure to the substanti
