Em Cestódeos, o processo de estrobilização é aquele que leva ao desenvolvimento da fase adulta a partir da larva, conferindo uma grande vantagem adaptativa a esses organismos através do aumento da fecundidade e dispersão. Abstract:

Mesocestoides corti é um modelo para o estudo da biologia de cestódeos. Neste modelo é viável a manutenção do seu estágio larval in vivo, como também é possível induzir e acompanhar in vitro o seu desenvolvimento para o estágio adulto (estrobilização). Mesocestoides corti é um platelminto endoparasita pertencente à classe Cestoda. Flatworm parasites (platyhelminths) cause serious infection diseases in humans, such as schistosomiasis and hydatid disease, mainly prevalent in developing countries. However, the current repertoire of drug armamentarium used to combat flatworm infections is limited. Abstract:

Mesocestoides corti and Taenia crassiceps are tapeworms, larvae of which are characterized by their ability to reproduce asexually. In this work, the effect of infection by M. corti and T. crassiceps in BALB/c, C57BL/6J and ICR mice on the growth and metastasis of B16F10 melanoma tumors was investigated. Although an increase in metastatic activities was observed after intravenous administration of melanoma cells to M. corti-infected mice, both tapeworms showed a strong suppressive effect on the size and number of tumors and metastases formed when the cells were administered intraperitoneally.
