Theme of my work is arguable for the cities which are situated near the river. Riverbanks are really nice public space but a lot of them are not "designed for people". Before I started do this work I was thinking about places which are ignored or overlooked in Znojmo town. Yes, town has a lot of places which are interesting and need "new face". There are brownfiels but problems of these localities was designed many times. And I wanted to find some new way, try restore and improve public space in connecting by the river. I chose locality which connect two important buildings – Znojmo castle and Louka monastery. There is needed to improve connection this locality to town centre.

The goal of this thesis is a design of a public library in the historical part of the city of Přerov. The locality that’s beeing solved, so called Na Marku, is situated at the point where the three important pedestrian routes meet on the bank of the Bečva river. Attractivness of the place is well increased by the nearness of both the main squares, the river and the unique well-preserved underpass used in the past by the brewery. Every landscape, every city and place have their own memory. The locality „Na Marku“ is packed with memories that run back to the first settlements on the river bank, the construction of the city walls, and up to the recent reconstruction of the Tyrš bridge. Throughout the history the place was formed by the local inhabitans and their varoius activities. Those gave origin to historical and spatial layers that overlay and complement each other and have – in Přerov, as well as anywhere in the world – a huge influence on one’s identification with a familiar place. This is where the church used to be. This is the path that leads down to the river. This is where the lime-tree blossoms fall down like snow in summer. In my thesis I aim for truly understanding the “genius loci” and designing a building that would bring a new sense of life to this weary but memorable locality.

The newbuild library is situated close to the bank of the river Bečva in the historical part of the town. The library is a place to save the values of knowledge, culture and the era itself. It should be strong and durable. It should last for centuries and saveguard its fragile content. However, it should also be an open place for people because information itself is worthless without the human mind to interact with. The contrast of openness and seclusion is expressed not only by shape of the structure but also its facade. The whole building is center-oriented – to the central hall, which is surrounded by books. Secluded volume of the hall is accessed via opening to the library's foreground.

The aim was to solve the areas, with an emphasis on the waterfront and use the potential of city's waterways. The task was also to design different forms of access to the water and logically connetct it with the designed buildings. The proposal also incorporates existing brownfield and creates a functioning urban structure which takes advantage of its location near watercourses.

The thesis main objective is to find the potential and capacity of the Svitava raceway concerning redevelopment and creation of new public areas, especially in the form of embankments designated for pedestrians. The theme of my disseration is an architecture study of multifunctional building which is surrounded by the streets Vranovská, Cejl and Jana Svobody and by the embankment of the river Svitava. Objective of the study was to design a building that would utilized the space of the plot effectively. The result of design is the construction which is characterized for its inner semi-public atrium space with link to the bank of Svitava and street Jana Svobody. It is five-storey house. In the first two stories there are different feature amenities (kindergarden, office building, restaurant, café, media library, gallery and other shops), and senior house. In the third floor and above there are designed flats for living. The part of the living area was also creating of new kind of housing called co-housing. The building has a basement, which is mostly for parking. The construction of the building is from monolithic reinforced concrete frame, horizontal structure consists of beamless slabs. Due to the huge area of the building, the facade is designed from the different kinds of materials: white plaster, light gray sheet metal, anthracite metail mesh and glass fiber.

The theme of the diploma thesis "Brno waterfront - rehabilitation of the Brno rivers and their surroundings" is creating an urban proposal in Brno, Zábrdovice, on the eastern waterfront of the Svitava river. The intention is to use the potential of the area and create the possibility of lucrative housing by river with a commercial ground floor, services, leisure time park with a multifunctional playground and easy direct access to the Svitava river. The studied location, has an area of 6.32 hectares andis defined mainly by the Zábrdovická Street and the Svitava River near the former Premonstratensian Monastery, which now serves as a Military Hospital. At present, the location has mainly low-floor industrial buildings with storage and expedition functions. The proposed buildings relate to existing buildings on the east and west banks of the Svitava River. They have the form of four to six storey blocks, which are characteristic for this area. The park connects to the revitalized eastern embankment of the river at the site of a new footbridgethat connects both rive sides and stairs. They provide space formeetings and relaxation, but also serve as a flood control in the event of a water inflow. Along the Svitava River there is a sidewalk with street alleyways and access to the river.

An object of leisure-time center and a new bridge were designed according to needs and limits of this location, that they correspond to. This project follows up on the previous analysis and the riverfront design in the section between the main bridge and the Zborovsky bridge in Kroměříž. The general target of this project is an active integrating the river and its closest neighborhood to the city environment. This target is supported by the study in this project. The leisure-time center design creates a social background and a center of this area and it would became an important point in Kroměříž, where people could relocate on the river, by bike or on foot from. The new bridge design examines possible solutions of a new bridge over the river in Kroměříž, that is missing here.

The objective of this dissertation is resolving the issues of both form and function of water courses in a present-day city. The dissertation focuses primarily on water courses which may be described as man-made, i.e. those resembling a canal, and addresses their prospective revitalization within the context of urban renewal and development in the present-day post-industrial era. The introduction includes a comprehensive analysis of the historical and typological development of artificial water courses, essential for grasping the connections as well as the current overall state of water courses in an urbanized setting. Detailed attention is devoted in particular to the most frequently occurring artificial water course - i.e. the race. The dissertation strives to defend the irreplaceable role of the water course as a public space in the urban landscape and - consequently - also its prospective essential revitalization. Examples, especially from throughout Western Europe, are used to demonstrate particular solutions, approaches and strategies to predominantly artificial water course renewal within the urban environment. The dissertation also devotes attention to the tools used in reaching relevant solutions.

The subject of the thesis is a part of the South Center of Brno. After a long period of time, the locality is starting to "wake up to life", thanks to the fact that after a few decades it was finally decided on the fate and location of the Central Station. Thus, it is expected to expand the city in a southern direction. Then incorporate adjacent areas to the center. The thesis follows the project from 2018, the subject of which was the design of an urban concept of a territorial unit defined by Opuštěná Street, the Lower Railway Station, the Svratka River and the planned new urban class located on the visual axis of Cathedral (st. Petr and Pavel). Therefore, the thesis deals with the architectural study of a part of this area, situated near the river Svratka, on the border of the newly emerging city embankment. It is a multifunctional block, with predominant use for housing with 136 apartments for about 450 inhabitants. This block is further divided into 3 buildings, which have two underground floors providing technological background, and parking spaces for the entire multifunctional block. Further, the architectural study focuses on one of these polyfunctional block objects and processes it in more detail. The building of the residential building, called "A" in the study, provides a total of 47 apartments. And in the ground floor of the building there are rentable spaces for various uses. The effort of the proposal was to create quality living in a unique location on the waterfront and provide the inhabitants with a view of the Svratka River and the park on the opposite bank, even though it is almost in the city center.

The territory is located in the city of Brno, district Trnitá on the embankment of the river Svitava. The subject of the diploma thesis is the architectural study of the design of the urban spatial structure with intensive use of city urban area, designed in pre-diploma project, which preceded diploma thesis. The design will allow mixing of greater amount of different functions on a relatively small built-up area, which will reduce the requirements on transport and provide the inhabitant with various forms of housing, services and employment. The shape of object's ground plan is based on area, which is connected from three sides to access roads. The mass and spatial solution respects the surrounding buildings and uses existing bike trails and sidewalks in the southeastern part of the area. The basic matter of object is divided by three axes passing through the building, into three blocks linked by common internal block. This creates a square with a tree-lined atrium with seating under the trees. The shape of these three blocks is further formed by removing of the mass, which results into forming of atriums, terraces and balconies, which brings natural light into the interior while allowing illumination of the patio and surrounding buildings within the territory. This spatial structure is horizontally divided by functions. Designed here are underground public garages, passages with shops, services, administration / commerce and housing. Despite the diversity of functions, for the facade was chosen a unified character of white horizontal lines contrasting with the dark gray lines of windows and facade cladding.

Extended Abstract This thesis addresses the globalizing urban waterfront in Bratislava. It aims to unravel the key logics driving the decision-making processes behind waterfront re- development in the Slovak capital. I investigate the infiltration of the capitalist logics into a transforming institutional environment unfolding from the post-socialist transition. This is being done through a distinction between the capitalist and the territorial logics of power (Jessop, 1999; Harvey, 2005). Across the globe, waterfront re-development has become the urban response to inner-city decline, and the increasing inter-urban competitiveness in today's neoliberal capitalism. The origins of waterfront transformations are here framed as an urban manifestation of geographically uneven logics of capital put into motion by the crisis of Atlantic Fordism (Smith, 1990; Jessop, 2000). The capital switching into the build-up environment (Harvey, 1978; 2005), is temporarily fixed on urban waterfronts through decisions made on multiple scales (Brenner, 2001). Various types of 'extraverted' strategies such as the Ecosystem approach (Laidley, 2007), a construction of megaprojects & an organisation of mega-events (Orueta & Fainstein 2009), or localization of transnational circulations of stararchitects (Alaily-Mattar et.al. 2018),...

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of rivers in urban landscape, from the viewpoint of landscape architecture. It is divided into two parts. First, theoretical part aims to make an introduction into topic, give historical overview and describe actual state of designing urban riverfronts. Last chapter defines principles on which such spaces should be designed. Second part introduces the chosen model object, the town of Havlíčkův Brod, presents analysis carried out in the area leading to the basis for the author´s design solution. The main output is a landscape architecture design project. Three general design strategies were converted into the design of a masterplan for part of the Sázava river, which runs through the city. Waterfronts in post-socialist cities have became under the influence of post- socialist transformations an areas of conflict, which are full of contradictory pressures based on the different actors and their views. This diploma thesis deals with plans and waterfront regeneration projects in Bratislava from the perspective of discursive practices and representations of investors, developers, city government and citizens. The work also examines the role of the actors involved in the formation of new identities of regenerated areas via different representations. It focuses on the process, which leads to the formation of new identities in the plans and projects of waterfront regeneration. The work uses an interpretative analysis of text segments. It examines both the process of discursive construction of place through a variety of discursive practices and offers an insight into the backstage relationships of actors involved. This thesis deals with the analysis of rhythms (Lefebvre 2004) at Prague's Rašín Embankment (náplavka Rašínova nábřeží). This thesis would also focus on the observation of the spatiotemporal changes of this place in a long term. I carried out qualitative interviews with actors who co-create the rhythms of this place with their managerial and entrepreneurial activities and added them to long-term continual visits and sensory perception of the place, along with the study of specialized historical publications. The analysis of the rhythms based on long-term participant observation was followed by an interpretation of what they actually tell us about everyday social reality of this place at specific times and how this space is produced by those rhythms. In this thesis I also used related concepts like chronotope (Crang, 2001; Osman, Mulíček, Seidenglanz, 2010, 2015) and chronopolis (Osman, Mulíček, Seidenglanz 2011, 2017). This thesis shows that nowadays the eurhythmia of this place is created by non- disruptive movement of local visitors such as walkers, runners and cyclists along the embankment, by regularly organized farmers' market and other events as well as by the flow of the Vltava river and its rhythms, by all means of transport on the local roads, bridges and the Vltava river.
