Abstract:
This paper uses membership categorization analysis to illustrate how five women invoke multiple female gender and sexuality identity categories in personal narratives to construct the device of womanhood. The five racially diverse women include four self-identified lesbians and one heterosexual and range in age from mid-twenties to early forties. Analysis of their two hour audio recorded interaction illustrates that gender and sexuality cannot be understood as a binary difference between men and women. These women use revolutionary categories, defined on their own terms rather than by outsider

People with psychosis (n=131) were interviewed before (Time 1) and after (Time 2) the introduction of two community mental health services in south London. One was intensive, with two specialist teams, the other standard. Outcomes were compared at Time 2, controlling for the Time 1 values.ResultsOverall, 70% of needs were met and mean satisfaction was between ‘mixed’ a

Aim. The study aimed to assess changes in calf muscle stiffness after eccentric exercise (ECC), followed by Muscle Energy Technique (MET). Our second goal was to evaluate the reliability of novel MyotonPRO device for measurements of calf muscle stiffness in athletes. Basic procedures. The study was conducted on 18 athletes form University School of Physical Education in Wrocław, practicing various sport disciplines. Stiffness measurements were obtained five times, bilaterally over calf muscle: 1) test for the relative and absolute reliability, 2) re-test, 3) before single bout of ECC, 4) after

Objective: To describe the implementation of a rapid response system and adherence to its afferent limb in order to identify key elements for improvement. Implementation: We developed a multifaceted implementation strategy to introduce the Rapid Response System (RRS) on a 60-bed surgical ward of a university hospital. The strategy included the use of clear objectives, key leaders, an early warning score (EWS) observation protocol and a two-tiered medical emergency team (MET) warning protocol, a 1-day training program including a before-after knowledge test, mandatory for nurses and optional fo

Objectives: Patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ultimately acquire resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) during treatment. In 5–22% of these patients, resistance is mediated by aberrant mesenchymal epithelial transition factor (MET) gene amplification. Here, we evaluated the emergence of MET amplification after EGFR-TKI treatment failure based on clinical parameters. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 186 patients with advanced EGFR-mutant NSCLC for MET amplification status by in situ hybridization (ISH)

Abstract BACKGROUND This study aimed to clarify how one-time administration of bevacizumab (BEV) changes histological features in glioblastoma, and how histological changes affect the uptake of 11C-methyl-L-methionine (11C-met) as an amino-acid tracer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Subjects were 18 patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma who were assigned to 2 groups: BEV group, single intravenous administration of BEV before surgical tumor removal; and control group, surgical tumor removal alone. After surgery, we compared the densities of tumor cells and microvessels, and microvascular structures

260 Background: Met over-expression has been found in bladder cancer (CaB). Stage and grade increases in urothelial carcinoma have been found to correlate with increases in Met expression. To assess whether molecular optical imaging could enhance the detection of bladder tumors, we used a Met-specific soluble photoprobe in an orthotopic xenograft model of bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). Methods: An orthotopic xenograft murine model of CaB was developed with T24-Luciferase-positive bladder cancer cells. Presence of tumor was confirmed by luciferase optical imaging (Xenogen IVIS) of m
