Abstract:

Abstract:
Variations in the genetic code are found frequently in mitochondrial decoding systems. Four non-universal genetic codes are employed in ascidian mitochondria: AUA for Met, UGA for Trp, and AGA/AGG(AGR) for Gly. To clarify the decoding mechanism for the non-universal genetic codes, we isolated and analyzed mitochondrial tRNAs for Trp, Met, and Gly from an ascidian, Halocynthia roretzi. Mass spectrometric analysis identified 5-taurinomethyluridine (τm5U) at the anticodon wobble positions of tRNAMet(AUR), tRNATrp(UGR), and tRNAGly(AGR), suggesting that τm5U plays a critical role in the accurate deciphering of all four non-universal codes by preventing the misreading of pyrimidine-ending near-cognate codons (NNY) in their respective family boxes. Acquisition of the wobble modification appears to be a prerequisite for the genetic code alteration.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Objective. To develop and validate an algorithm to identify and classify noninvasive infections due to Staphylococcus aureus by using positive clinical culture results and administrative data.Design.Retrospective cohort study.Setting.Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System.Methods.Data were collected retrospectively on all S. aureus clinical culture results from samples obtained from nonsterile body sites during October 1998 through September 2008 and associated administrative claims records. An algorithm was developed to identify noninvasive infections on the basis of a unique S. aureus-positive culture result from a nonsterile site sample with a matching International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision (ICD-9-CM), code for infection at time of sampling. Medical records of a subset of cases were reviewed to find the proportion of true noninvasive infections (cases that met the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Healthcare Safety Network [NHSN] definition of infection). Positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated for all infections and according to body site of infection.Results.We identified 4,621 unique S. aureus-positive culture results, of which 2,816 (60.9%) results met our algorithm definition of noninvasive S. aureus infection and 1,805 (39.1%) results lacked a matching ICD-9-CM code. Among 96 cases that met our algorithm criteria for noninvasive S. aureus infection, 76 also met the NHSN criteria (PPV, 79.2% [95% confidence interval, 70.0%–86.1%]). Among 98 cases that failed to meet the algorithm criteria, 80 did not meet the NHSN criteria (NPV, 81.6% [95% confidence interval, 72.8%–88.0%]). The PPV of all culture results was 55.4%. The algorithm was most predictive for skin and soft-tissue infections and bone and joint infections.Conclusion.When culture-based surveillance methods are used, the addition of administrative ICD-9-CM codes for infection can increase the PPV of true noninvasive S. aureus infection over the use of positive culture results alone.

Abstract:
A classifier of QR-codes, which are used in light industry and are divided into static, dynamic, combined is developed in this work. Static QR codes can be digital, text or symbolic. Digital QR-codes are divided into subspecies: product code, product price, manufacturer code, date and other numerical designations. Text QR-codes are divided into subtypes: product name, product description, manufacturer and other text designations. Symbolic QR-codes are divided into subtypes: special symbols, formatting symbols and other marking symbols. Combined together, several types of QR codes form a combined code. Frequently static and dynamic QR codes are combined. Dynamic QR codes can only be combined. Based on the survey data, we can assume that the most important are the four main ways to use the QR-code are: “Outdoor advertising”, “Code on goods”, “Electronic ticket” and “Discount code”. Other ways to use a QR code, according to experts, have a much lower impact in terms of application. These include: “Invitation to social networks”, “Tourism”, “Banking”, “Company logo”, “Clothing and accessories”, “Tattoos”. This opinion of experts is typical only for Ukraine, because according to foreign studies, tattooing a QR-code on the human body is quite often met. Taking into account the results of the study, a label for products was made using a QR-code, which contains a link to the site TKSHV – Market. On the site it is possible to get acquainted in more detail with the products made at the department, to provide consumers with information about them. From the site it is possible to go to the Telegram-channel, where it is convenient to ask additional questions, see the process of creating a QR-code and more. It is also planned to create other channels on social networks, such as Instagram, Facebook, Viber. This will allow the consumer to use a more convenient social network.

Abstract:
Research background: Ethical conduct is considered a pillar of strength within the context of corporate social responsibility. The basic tool for achieving this is a code of ethics, which should form the basis for the ethical management of any company. Globalisation and internationalisation have brought with them the need to have a high-quality code of ethics in place, one that is balanced in terms of content. Purpose of the article: The aim of the research presented in this contribution is to determine, by means of qualitative comparative analysis, to what extent codes of ethics meet key preconditions for efficacy. Methods: The analysis was carried out on a sample set of 40 companies from various industrial sectors, and of various size, ownership structure and origin. All the companies were active in the Czech Republic at the time. The main preconditions for determining the efficacy of a code of ethics, and which therefore formed the basis for the qualitative comparative analysis, were set in advance. Findings & Value added: The results of the analysis revealed that significant differences exist between companies with national and international spheres of activity with regards to the content and form of their codes of ethics. As a consequence, the preconditions for efficacy were judged not to have been fully met. The primary reason for the differences was the level of importance managements and owners of companies assign to a code of ethics and the emphasis they place on adherence to the provisions set forth in them.

Abstract:
Timely activation of the rapid response team (RRT) depends on the nurse's willingness and ability to make a rapid decision. The practice-focused questions for this DNP project sought to identify barriers that contribute to delays in activating the RRT when needed in medical-surgical patients. The self-efficacy theory was the guiding theory and was used to examine self-confidence and performance along with Donabedian's health care model. Qualitative data were obtained through focus groups and identified 2 prominent thematic barriers among nurses with less than 3 years' experience: a lack of self-confidence and the of lack of knowledge and experience. Results of a chart review included 34 charts to determine if the RRT were called appropriately and were inconclusive. Finally, an 11 item survey with 9 demographic questions showed a statistically significant difference on the summed survey score between nurses with less than 3 years of experience and more tenured nurses, indicating a lack of perceived support, self-confidence, and knowledge among the nurses with less than 3 years of experience (Pearson chi square = 7.403 with 2 df and p = .025). Results were presented to leaders at the site and the recommendations resulting from these observations include the use of high-fidelity simulation education. Nurse educators and senior leadership from the medical surgical units agreed to accept the recommendations and proceed with developing an educational solution to address the barriers. Building knowledge, skills and self-confidence in nurses reduces the barriers to effective use of the RRT, and results in better outcomes for hospitalized medical-surgical patients, a positive social change.

Abstract:
Due to economic globalisation and integration, as well as the global economic downturn since 2008, the appearance of cross-border insolvencies have increased dramatically. This increase in cross-border insolvencies has led to a demand for a general and fair system to administer cross-border insolvencies globally. In 1997 United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) promulgated the Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency to act as an aide to countries in globally administering cross-border insolvencies in a uniform way. South Africa, and the United States of America (USA), subsequently accepted this Model Law approach into their respective national legislation. South Africa did this through the Cross-Border Insolvency Act 42 of 2000 (CBIA) and the USA by way of Chapter 15 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The CBIA is, however, not currently in operation as the Minister of Justice has not yet designated countries to which the CBIA will apply. Chapter 15 is, however, effective and operational in the USA. The two theories that underlie cross-border insolvencies – universalism and territorialism – have been further refined in the theories of modern universalism and modern territorialism. Supporters of modern universalism hailed the acceptance of the Model Law into the national legislation of countries as a victory over modern territorialism as the characteristics of modern universalism can be found throughout the Model Law. Modern universalism is, however, seen as theory which endangers the interests of local creditors as it favours universal administration of assets. However, modern territorialism is, on the other hand, acknowledged to protect the interests of local creditors. Therefore an investigation into the application of Chapter 15 by the courts of the USA will indicate if the interests of local creditors are sufficiently protected under this so-called modern universalistic approach and, if indeed so, how this is achieved. As the CBIA is neither operational nor effective in South Africa, cross-border insolvencies are governed by the common law and the precedents set down in case law. Writers and case law indicate that South Africa uses a system that can be described as between pure territorialism and modern territorialism. It can therefore be accepted that South Africa currently protects the interests of its local creditors sufficiently. The question then arises if, when South Africa made the CBIA effective and operational, would local creditors‟ interests still be sufficiently protected? As the CBIA and Chapter 15 are both based on the Model Law, they are basically identical in most aspects. Therefore an investigation into the application of Chapter 15 will also indicate if the CBIA will sufficiently protect the interests of local creditors. This dissertation thus attempts, through an investigation of the applications lodged under Chapter 15, to indicate that the USA still succeeds in protecting the interests of its local creditors. The USA achieves this through utilising mechanisms made available through Chapter 15 itself. Consequently this dissertation shows that South Africa can make the CBIA operational, while still sufficiently protecting the interests of its local creditors.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mean-field monomer-dimer models, on sparse random graphs or on the complete graph, can be considered as an approximation of finite-dimensional physical models involving particles of different sizes. On the other hand they have a particular interest for the emerging applications to Computer Science and Social Sciences, since the real-world networks are often modelled by particular families of random graphs. We give a rigorous proof of Zdeborovà-Mézard's picture of the monomer-dimer model with pure hard-core interaction on sparse random graphs. As shown by Heilmann and Lieb, the hard-core interaction is not sufficient to cause a phase transition in monomer-dimer models. We study monomer-dimer models on the complete graph and in particular we add an attractive interaction to the hard-core one. We provide the solution of this model, showing that a phase transition occurs. The critical exponents are the standard mean-field ones and the central limit theorem breakdowns. Finite-dimensional monomer-dimer models (and more general hard-rods models) are still interesting also for applications to Physics, in the theory of liquid crystals. Heilmann and Lieb proposed some monomer-dimer models on Z^2 with attractive interactions that favour the presence of clusters of neighbouring parallel dimers. They showed the presence of orientational order at low temperatures, while they conjectured the absence of translational order. We prove the absence of translational order in a different framework, when the dimer potential favours one of the two orientations.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates what characterises enterprises and business processes which can benefit from implementation of low code solutions through a study. The study was conducted with interviews in a qualitative approach together with a target group possessing certain insight in the subject. The result of the study is partly consistent with previous research within the area of study, but also previously unexplored areas of study were investigated in the study, for which there was no scientific literature to compare to. In summary the results of the study entail that enterprises and business processes which highly value the specific advantages that the low code concept offers, and don’t have high demands regarding complexity and so on, can benefit from the implementation of low code solutions.

Abstract:
AFCEN is the French society which publishes codes for design, construction and in-service inspection rules for Pressurized Water Reactors. The fields covered by theses codes are: mechanical components, in-service surveillance of mechanical components, electrical equipments, nuclear fuel, and more recently, civil works and fire protection. After a brief global presentation of AFCEN history and current position, we set out the technical content of one of these codes: RCC-C. This code is dedicated to fuel assemblies and associated core components. It sets forth minimum generic requirements to be met by the supplier and by the manufacturer for the design justifications and for the manufacturing and inspection operations of PWR fuel assemblies and rod cluster control assemblies. We go over the different chapters of RCC-C: product and part characteristics; manufacturing and inspection processes and methods and associated qualifications; inspection requirements for the different items; design characteristics and requirements which the design justification shall meet; methods for demonstrating that design requirements are met.

Abstract:
The article develops an efficient implementation of an algorithm for detecting and correcting multivalued residual errors with a fixed number of calculations of the syndrome, regardless of the set of moduli size. Criteria for uniqueness are given that can be met by selecting moduli from a set of primes to satisfy the desired error correction capability. An extended version of the algorithm with an increase in the number of syndromes depending on the number of information moduli is proposed. It is proposed to remove the restriction imposed on the size of redundant moduli. Identifying the location of the error and finding the error vector requires only look-up tables and does not require arithmetic operations. In order to minimize the excess space, an extended algorithm is also proposed in which the number of syndromes and look-up tables increases with the number of information moduli, but the locations of errors can still be identified without requiring iterative computations. By using the approximate method, we have reduced the computational complexity of the algorithm for calculating the syndrome from quadratic to linear-logarithmic, depending on the number of bits in the dynamic range.

Full text
Abstract:
For commercial development and deployment of the molten salt reactor, a structural alloy that provides both strength at high temperature and resistance to very corrosive molten salt environment is required. To meet this requirement, a survey is conducted on domestic and international candidate alloys. Alloy N turns out to be the sole frontrunner in readiness for qualification to enable the desired deployment within an estimated 10 years. A review of the qualification for commercial nuclear applications indicates that Alloy N has met a large portion of the requirements. Gaps in the qualification are also identified. A search for historical data is underway to retrieve information needed for filling the gaps and upgrading the qualification. Scope of the discovered historical data is briefly discussed and strategic planning for research and development pathway is suggested to ensure successful evolution in commercial deployment of the molten salt reactor system.

Abstract:
To prepare for implementation of ASME OM Code [1] Mandatory Appendix III (Appendix III) for inservice testing of motor-operated valves (MOVs), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) performed a comprehensive assessment at all three of their nuclear sites to identify gaps between their legacy IST and MOV programs and an IST program that meets the requirements of Appendix III. This assessment reviewed each paragraph of Appendix III and T VA governing documents to determine how the requirements are already being met or are missing in the legacy MOV program(s). Secondly, the assessment performed a high level overview of TVA’s MOV programs in response to NRC Generic Letters 89-10 [6] and 96-05 [7] and identifies areas for improvement for TVA consideration. This paper presents the assessment purpose and objectives, scope, approach and methods, references, summary of significant gaps, and proposed actions to resolve these gaps prior to Appendix III implementation. Full text
Abstract:
An ASME III design code assessment of the fuelling machine cooling system pipework at a gas cooled nuclear power station has been carried out via the design analysis route of ASME III, Division 1, Section NB-3600 to support an update of its safety case. The objective of the work is to demonstrate that all components assessed are in compliance with the ASME III design code. More than 100 welds and components comprising plain pipe sections, elbows, tees and reducers have been selected and assessed against ASME III Service Levels A and D Stress Limits for a number of load cases. The loadings for the components assessed are internal pressures and piping system forces and moments obtained from the piping flexibility analyses. For all components assessed, the ASME III Service Level A requirements are met. For ASME III Level D assessments, the rules contained in ASME III NB-3656 and Appendix F are used. It is shown that the ASME III Level D requirements are also met. This paper details the assessment procedures on the selected components and also presents the assessment results.

Heitsch, Matthias. "Containment Fire Simulation by a CFD Code." In 10th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering. ASMEDC, 2002. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icone10-22467.

Full text
Abstract:
In the frame of an international collaborative project to evaluate fire models a code benchmark was initiated to better quantify the strengths and weaknesses of the codes involved. CFX has been applied to simulate selected cases of both parts of the benchmark. These simulations are presented and discussed in this paper. In the first part of the benchmark a pool fire just represented by a heat release table is considered. Consequently, the physical fire model within CFX is simple. Radiative heat exchange together with turbulent mixing are involved. Two cases with and without venting of the fire room are compared. The second part of the benchmark requires a more detailed fire model in order to inspect the availability of oxygen locally and to control the fire intensity. Under unvented conditions oxygen starvation is encountered and the fire oscillates. Mechanical ventilation changes this behavior and provides enough oxygen all over the simulation time. The predefined damage criteria to characterize, if a target cable in the fire room would be damaged, are not met. However, surface temperatures predicted are well above the assumed threshold temperatures. A continuation of the work presented is foreseen and will address a more complex physical modeling of relevant fire scanarios.

Full text
Abstract:
A previously-developed procedure applies to evaporator section of bottom-supported heat-recovery steam generators (HRSG): The procedure features methods to use on pressure internal parts designed according to Section I, as required by the Boiler & Pressure Vessel (B & PV) Code. It uses ASME Power Piping Code B31.1, which is for external piping, to evaluate additional concerns on pressure parts that have already met Section I. This mainly because other sections of B & PV code do not cover flexibility analysis: Procedure includes classical methods for the static analysis of the lower header and a computer-modeled flexibility analysis. They investigate the stability of the harp high-temperature components, which may be critical because of their longitudinal dimensions, thermal expansions and loading: Preliminary stress evaluation showed that Italian pressure formula is largely conservative. Methods’ application to a worked example using both ASME and Italian pressure formulae shows now that the pressure contribution is the greatest. Also, the maximum stress found out on the header in sustained case appears consistent with that from numerical model, though bending contribution the greatest; Sustained case appears less critical than thermal. So, the design should be safe from risks of static instability due to longitudinal pressure stress: deformation occasionally observed in field on the lower headers may be correctly imputed to thermal expansion. Herein, a bottom-supported HRSG double-width unity of combined cycle power plant is considered as the worked example.

Abstract:
After a quick overview of RSE-M scope now used on more than 100 Nuclear Power Plants in the World, this paper will present the flaw evaluation rules of RSE-M Appendix 5. This Appendix considers cracks, volumetric defects and thinning areas. Periodically updated on a yearly bases, the rules cover cracks in different components, for different material, in different location. It consider defects interaction in Appendix 5 - Chapter 5-1. In the case of multiple defects, after determining the dimensions for each defect according to the rules in previous chapters, the non-interaction conditions between the elementary defects given shall be checked. If these conditions are not met, the defects shall be grouped according to a dedicated chapter. This review is done on the basis of RSE-M 2015 edition and last modifications of 2016 edition.

Nelson, Gena. A Systematic Review of the Quality of Reporting in Mathematics Meta-Analyses for Students with or at Risk of Disabilities Coding Protocol. Boise State University, July 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18122/sped138.boisestate.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 22 meta-analyses focused on mathematics interventions for students with or at-risk of disabilities. The purpose of the systematic review was to evaluate reporting quality in meta-analyses focused on mathematics interventions for students with or at risk of disabilities. To identify meta-analyses for inclusion, we considered peer-reviewed literature published between 2000 and 2020; we searched five education-focused electronic databases, scanned the table of contents of six special education journals, reviewed the curriculum vitae of researchers who frequently publish meta-analyses in mathematics and special education, and scanned the reference lists of meta-analyses that met inclusion criteria. To be included in this systematic review, meta-analyses must have reported on the effectiveness of mathematics-focused interventions, provided a summary effect for a mathematics outcome variable, and included school-aged participants with or at risk of having a disability. We identified 22 meta-analyses for inclusion. We coded each meta-analysis for 53 quality indicators (QIs) across eight categories based on recommendations from Talbott et al. (2018). Overall, the meta-analyses met 61% of QIs and results indicated that meta-analyses most frequently met QIs related to providing a clear purpose (95%) and data analysis plan (77%), whereas meta-analyses typically met fewer QIs related to describing participants (39%) and explaining the abstract screening process (48%). We discuss the variation in QI scores within and across the quality categories and provide recommendations for future researchers so that reporting in meta-analyses may be enhanced. Limitations of the current study are that grey literature was not considered for inclusion and that only meta-analyses were included; this limits the generalizability of the results to other research syntheses (e.g., narrative reviews, systematic reviews) and publication types (e.g., dissertations).

Abstract:
The purpose of document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 76 meta-analyses focused on students with or at-risk of disabilities. All of the included meta-analyses provided a summary statistic related to at least one of the High Leverage Practices (HLPs; McLeskey et al., 2017). ). The purpose of the systematic review of meta-analyses was to provide an initial investigation of the evidence supporting the effectiveness of the HLPs for students with, or at-risk for, a disability. This code book contains variable names, code options, and code definitions related to basic study information (i.e., authors, year of publication, journal), the details of each study, participant demographics, HLPs included in each study, and summary statistics. The mean interrater reliability across all codes using this protocol was 88% (range across categories = 84%–97%)

Abstract:
The purpose of document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 22 mathematics intervention meta-analyses focused on participants with or at-risk of disabilities. The author drafted this coding protocol based on the meta-analysis quality indicators recommended by Talbott et al. (2018, pp. 248–249); specifically, the author considered the variables presented in Table 1 of Talbott et al. and supplemented the information so that the variables and definitions were specific to the purpose of this systematic review. We coded each meta-analysis for 53 variables across eight categories, including: Quality of Clear Research Questions, Quality of Eligibility Criteria, Quality of Search Procedures, Quality of Screening Criteria, Quality of Coding Procedures, Quality of Research Participants and Contexts, Quality of Data Analysis Plan, and Quality of Reporting Results. The mean interrater reliability across all codes using this protocol was 87.8% (range across categories = 74% –100%).
