Full textEven though performance appraisal is used in most South African organisations, the information acquired is often not used for the purpose to which it pertains, i.e. improving work performance and identifying career, promotion and development opportunities. The former, together with the lack of formal post structures and goal orientated career plans when appointments are made, often results in secretarial personnel (especially executive secretaries and personal assistants) never receiving the necessary acknowledgement in spite of their training, competence and experience. This group of employees plays a very important support- , ing role at all levels of management; yet they are often overlooked for promotion to lower and middle management levels, despite the crucial shortage of people with high level skills. Since the largest percentage of these employees are women, they experience even more discrimination because of their gender. In the first place this investigation attempted to establish to what degree secretarial personnel's performance is appraised and to what end the results are employed. Secondly, an attempt was made to determine the degree to which the enterprises involved in the investigation have established career programmes and whether the results obtained from performance appraisals are used as criterion for promotion and career planning. Furthermore, the obstacles in the way of the development and promotion of secretarial personnel were investigated. At the same time the degree of discrimination against women in management positions was surveyed. As background to the investigation, a comprehensive literature review was conducted.

Kommunikation är alltså en mänsklig handling, något som vi gör och information är det vi utbyter genom att kommunicera med varandra. Information är något som finns överallt idag och berör oss alla på olika sätt och vis. Den har olika påverkan på oss alla och vi tolkar det olika.
Genom dokumenthantering kan man effektivisera processer, rutiner och arbetsflöden, samtidigt som man ökar omfattningen och effektiviteten för företagsinformationen.
En undersökning är en form av primär data där man samlar ihop data från antingen en hel grupp eller en del av en grupp. Det finns en del olika sätt att utföra en undersökning, via till exempel telefon eller elektronisk. Vi valde att skicka ut en undersökning elektronisk som vår målgrupp fick fylla i.
Undersökningen, även kallad effektivitetstest, är kvalitativ vilket syftar till att svaren skall ha en djupare dimension än bara siffror.
Efter att ha fått klart för oss över de problem som fanns har vi även tittat på olika funktioner som kan lösa dessa problem. De flesta av funktionerna fanns i SharePoint (Server och Services). Som stöd kan man även använda funktioner i OneNote och InfoPath.

Full textBuilding Information Modeling (BIM) is a relatively new method of working in the construction industry that more and more companies embrace in various projects. With the help of BIM project work efficiency can be increased at an early stage. For example, I can perform collision checks in the created 3D models of the various players already in the planning phase, this can help avoiding problems when the construction work has started. BIM process consists of three parts. They are called 3D, 4D and 5D and include 3D visualization, scheduling and costing. In this report the focus is mostly on time planning phase to provide a picture of how the work could be better if the BIM was used to planning and its obstacles in the development of the use of BIM. To get an idea of how the planning was carried out as a comparison of the Gantt planning and Flowline planning was made. Where a Flowline plan was established from an existing Gantt planning , then to see how the methods are different from each other.

Full textEnvironmental certification of buildings becomes more important as demand from e.g. property owners, potential customers and tenants increases. More and more investors therefore choose to certificate their building projects with some of today’s environmental systems of certification. For an architect it means a more extensive challenge, since it requires higher claims for the building to achieve the desired certification. Some requirements for the authorisation affect big parts of the design of the building. The task is for the architect to achieve a good balance between the requirements and the design of the building. It is therefore very important to plan properly from the start of the process. This project aims to increase the knowledge among architects in the early stage of building process when it comes to office buildings with a certification according to the system Miljöbyggnad. The analysis will be made of calculations for every indicator that directly affects the design of the building and have a special importance in the early stage of the building process. Daylight, energy and the indoor environment judged according to Miljöbyggnad. The studies will be made by a fictitious building placed in Stockholm with the representative properties of a normal office building recording to the building standards of today. Our results in this thesis show that there is a possible way to build an office building with a relatively high portion of window of the building façade, and considered that still accomplish the requirements to achieve the level Silver Miljöbyggnad. There is one thing that seems to be an assumption for this kind of office building, it has to be mobile shading for the windows. Alternatively some other kind of shading that also allow an highly inlet of daylight which at the same time let big part of the total energy from the sun out of the building during warm and sunny days. One other condition to accomplish the level of Silver is that a heat source will be placed under the windows, to make the indoor climate pleasant during winter season. As a conclusion of our analyses it seems that the hardest thing to accomplish is the balance between a good daylight factor, low solar load and at the same time a satisfying thermal climate during summer time.

Full textDenna uppsats behandlar en undersökning som gjordes efter det att en gymnasieskola i Örebro migrerat från Microsoft Office till Open Office. I studien undersöktes vilka för och nackdelar som lärare upplevde efter migrationen samt vilka problem som uppstod då öppen mjukvara används i en miljö som är dominerad av proprietär mjukvara.
Det tillvägagångssätt vi valt är en metodtriangulering där vi samlat in data med hjälp av tre olika insamlingsmetoder, en litteraturstudie, kvalitativa intervjuer och en kvantitativ enkät. Dessa insamlingsmetoder utformades så att litteraturstudien var av bredare karaktär och leder till att intervjuerna blir av mer specifik karaktär som i sin tur ger oss kvantitativa frågor till enkäten.
Det vi funnit under arbetets gång är att migrationen lett till interoperabilitetsproblem med existerande proprietära system och även att filer tolkats olika av de båda kontorspaketen. Lärarna såg större skillnader mellan de båda kontorspaketen är vad skolan och kommunen förutsett och tyckte att de mer avancerade funktionerna är svårare att använda i Open Office vi har även sett en efterfrågan utbildning.

Full textThis report describes the sales process of type code 220 single-family homes, including necessary procedural steps. The focus of the report is to identify key areas needing improvement in order to ascertain potential solutions. The report is intended to act as both a support mechanism and a guide for real estate agents and private individuals in their roles as buyers and sellers. A process-map was developed based on research and guidance, and is described within the report. Problem areas were identified using the process-map during comprehensive interviews, and every step in the process is explained in detail in order to illustrate the process-map’s purpose. Further discussion and analysis has led to suggestions for improvement of the sales process. The results shows that the majority of interviewed real estate agents believe the sales process to some extent can be improved. The majority of the interviewed real estate agents points out the importance of creating and maintain good relations with partners and colleagues in the same economic area. This is considered to be essential for businesses that rely on a third person should proceed with as few obstacles as possible. It is also clear that many of the problems that emerged due to external factors that the real estate agents themselves can´t influence. Factors affecting the world economy, interest rates, situation of the property market, speculations among media, laws and regulations are factors beyond the real estate agent´s control. However, after further discussion it became evident that active real estate agents already considered the process inadequate or excessively time consuming. It is also evident that many of the problem areas were due to external factors not influenced by real estate agents. Furthermore, the new real estate law which was implemented July 1, 2011 contributed to several problem areas already identified being addressed and resolved. This report has led to the identification of a process which would make the work easier.

Full textThe efficiency of the construction industry depends on many factors, one of which is logistics. Well-planned logistics can, among other things, reduce waste of time and costs. Studies have previously shown that inefficient time management in the construction industry occurs more often than in other industries. This report has been written to investigate which problems can occur in the logistics process and how digitization can prevent problems in the logistics flow. Digitization reflected in Building Information Modeling (BIM) creates opportunities for achieving an efficient logistics flow. The report contains two main parts: The collection of facts covers the concept of logistics and various strategies related to the topic such as Lean and Just In Time and their application in the construction industry. Comparisons between different standards related to improved handling and classification of materials are addressed, among them BEAst and Coclass. The impact of the BIM design on logistics has also been theoretically investigated with the software Vico Office and its 4D and 5D functions. The second part focuses on surveys about construction workplaces and interviews with BIM specialists, logistics managers, researchers using selected interview questions. The questions are designed according to each work role and all answers are transcribed at the end of the report as appendices. All collected information from the survey results and interviews are presented in results and analysis to finally discuss the advantages and disadvantages of BIM design for logistics purposes. The report proposes more use of BIM design in the design stage to streamline logistics in the construction industry.

Full textGlobalization and the outside world's influence on modern organizations have created new demands and goals for our Swedish employers. Flexibility and rapid changes demand that today's employers must be well-suited for change. This in turn means that the employee must also be ready to meet similar requirements. New technology and new ways of working have given the modern office worker a daily life that can be completely paperless and because of this the employee isn't linked to one specific workstation. The key reason for to the new way of working is to increase profitability, but benefits such as increased creativity and increased cooperation among employees are highlighted as benefits from the employer. This study is based on a qualitative approach. The aim of the study was to capture the employees experiences of working activity-based. The study does not intend to explain whether this new way of working is good or bad for the employee, but only for the purpose of capturing their experience. The study shows that the overall experience of working activity-based is good, but that experiences vary between different individuals. The conclusion is that employees need to have the feeling of being able to control their everyday lives and opportunities to choose the right place for the right task for this work method to be experienced well. The value of this research lies in the fact that because employee experience is something that has not been the center of the research before, and we need to know more about the effects of this increasingly popular way of designing modern offices. If we capture the employee's experience of working in this environment, we can more easily understand how it is perceived and better conditions improve the working environment in the long term in a society that continually places new demands on organizations and employee's.

Full textPeople with heart failure should according to Swedish national guidelines for heart care get personalized care that is efficient, equitable, patient safety, knowledgeable and accessible. They should receive information about treatment, symptoms and prevention. The purpose of this study was to explore components that nurses at an office nursing heart failure clinic can use to conduct evidence-based care. This systematic literature study reviewed 21 articles in which two components emerged, education and e-support, where education was the most important component. To maintain the components, several tools were found in the articles, these were; telephone follow-up, home visits, group education, telemonitoring, diary, written information/book and video/computer programs. When the components and tools was used together by nurses at nursing office heart failure clinics, significantly or better results were found for self-care, quality of life, costs, utilization of care and mortality.

Full textDet blir allt vanligare att kontor förändras och går från det traditionella cellkontoret till öppna och aktivitetsbaserade kontorslandskap. De senare är behovsanpassade och sägs vara flexibla där anställda själva kan välja hur och var de vill arbeta. Teliaär ett av de företag som nyligen genomgått en omorganisation och utformat sitt kontor med en aktivitetsanpassad design. Syftet med denna studie är att skapa kunskap kring hur de anställda på Telia upplever arbetet i den nya arbetsmiljön. Men även att ta reda på huruvida den fysiska utformningen upplevs påverka de sociala interaktionerna på arbetsplatsen. Denna studie är av kvalitativ karaktär då den avser att tydliggöra upplevelserna hos medarbetarna. Semistrukturerade intervjuer har genomförts med fem anställda vilka alla har olika yrkesroller inom företaget. Det teoretiska ramverket som har använts för att kunna analysera resultatet är Bangs (1999) teori om organisationskultur, olika delar av Goffmans (2006) dramaturgiska perspektiv samt Jacobsen & Thorsviks (2014) teori om organisatorisk kommunikation. De resultat som framkommit visar både för-och nackdelar med det aktivitetsbaserade arbetssättet. Förutom ergonomi, djupa interaktioner och känslan av att veta var ens kollegor sitter verkar medarbetarna påTelia mestadels vara positivt inställda till det nya kontorslandskapet. Resultaten i denna studie påvisar bland annat att det aktivitetsbaserade kontoret upplevs skapa flexibilitet och nätverkande mellan medarbetare. Slutligen visar studiens resultat att hierarki, samhörighet och kommunikation tillsammans utgör en positiv känsla av det nya aktivitetsbaserade kontorslandskapet på Telia, enligt de anställda.

Full textActivity-based offices are becoming more common, but they have been criticized by a number of reasons for not function effectively and it needs to be focused on finding out what the problems are. The purpose of this study was to contribute knowledge how the activity-based working environment has influence on work motivation, cooperation and communication among employees working in such offices. With a qualitative research approach, I have done eleven semi-structured interviews together with observations on employees working in Kungälvs Hall. The literature review includes previous research on activity-based office environment and its impact on the factors: motivation, collaboration and communication. The study results showed that motivation positive culture and work environment appearance along with the flexible working. Noise other hand, had a negative impact on work motivation when employees could not work in a completely peaceful environment and concentrate. Focused and dedicated leaders motivate people to want to work. Employees can sit anywhere in the office and leaders need to trust them when they do not see them as much, when employees feel that the leader relies on to increase their motivation. The group-oriented surfaces in the office creates a physical contact that stimulates cooperation and increase motivation. The motivation is related to both cooperation and communication. Group-oriented surfaces also stimulate communication in the office but not over stimulated. The office that is creative in numerous ways streamlines cooperation. Employees communicate a lot with the help of modern technology on activity-based office to get in touch with colleagues and leaders, but the technique of not used. The lack of walls in the office makes it open and visible for the employees to see each other, which improves cooperation and efficient communication between employees.

Full textAim: The aim of this bachelor thesis was to examine how and why high school students contacted their school nurse. Furthermore the aim was to examine if there was a difference between genders and grades pertaining to number of contacts with the school nurse and number of contacts because of physical respectively mental reasons. Method: Quantitative descriptive study design using questionnaires. 151 students in grades 7-9 were asked to answer a questionnaire, 74% (n = 112) of the population participated. Results: The majority of the students contacted the school nurse through the nurse’s office. 67.9% had contacted concerning physical health issues which "height and weight", "hurt me" and "headache" was the most common. For mental issues the same number was 10.7 % and “stress” most common. There was no significant difference between genders in relation to number of contacts with the school nurse or physical or mental reasons for contact. However there was a significant difference (p = 0.02) between grades pertaining to relation to number of contacts and to physical reasons for contact (p = 0.005), which grade 7 is most frequently. Most (64.2 %) pupils would like to contact the school nurse through the nurse’s office. Conclusion: The students prefer to have direct contact with the school nurse at the nurse´s office. There is a difference between grades in the number of visits to the school nurse and the number of visits for physical reasons.

Full textThe construction sector generates large ecological footprints annually through the demolition of buildings, as the need for more and more buildings increases in the cities, but unfortunately there is a shortage of exploitable land. An alternative solution for the city still being able to grow is to build on the height and thus densify the cities. This is often done today by demolition of the existing building in order to be able to replace it with new construction, which is not at all sustainable. It is not reasonable to demolish fully functional buildings of good quality only to increase the amount of LOA and BOA. Recycling is the key to a more sustainable construction and an alternative solution for increasing LOA and BOA is to add additional floors to already existing buildings by extension. The purpose of this investigation is to facilitate the decision making in the investigation of the existing stock. By analyzing the potential of buildings for upgrading at an early stage, the risks can be minimized for unexpected costs.Through a qualitative study, which was mainly produced through interviews with industry experts, we have worked to identify patterns of four already completed extensions made by Fabege. We believe that by identifying the pitfalls that can arise during construction with extension work can economically and temporally minimize risk and prevent problems. This is done in the hope of encouraging more companies in the field to start more constructions of this kind, as this type of building is currently associated with hassle and unexpected costs, which means that many players do not dare to try. This method that is developed will be in the form of a “reference card” that can be followed step by step, where all the key factors that we in this investigation call “benchmarks” are reviewed. Each central factor that was judged to be crucial for a successful extension was classified in scale A, B and C for how important this factor was considered to cope with a large-scale extension. By large-scale superstructures we mean mainly larger office buildings where approximately 4-5 floors are currently being built.To be able to easily make the assessment, the crib includes a polar diagram in which the various factors are compiled. By filling this in on the basis of the existing building's conditions, the investigator can then get a visual overview of what factors may be obstacles during the construction work.The guide also includes a step-by-step description of how the process begins for an extension and also in-depth points to be reviewed at an early stage to minimize future costs and difficulties.The key to a successful extension is good knowledge and thorough preparation. Therefore, we present this reference card to inform what is important to revise at an early stage and put a good foundation of knowledge and overview. This means that more buildings can be tested as potential additions.

Full textIn Sweden tourist offices are found in most places where there is tourism and this following bachelor thesis is about digitization of tourist offices. The thesis will examine tourist office´s extent of digitized activities, underlying causes behind the digitalization of tourist offices and what potential effects digitalization will lead to for these organizations and their future. The theoretical starting point is based on research on the transition from an industrial society to an information society, the dependency of the tourism industry on digital development and consumer demand for digital services and products. A quantitative method is used in the form of a survey that was distributed to all authorized tourist offices in Sweden. The purpose of the survey was to investigate why and to what extent the tourist offices have digitized their business and what plans they have for digitalization in the future. The research showed that the underlying reasons behind digitization are that they want to follow the societal development, the consumer has changed their behavior and the visitors are requiring more accessible information. Every tourism office in Sweden that took part in the survey is using some kind of digital channel and the majority of them are planning to expand their digitalization. Respondents have both positive and negative attitudes towards digitization and the majority does not think that a complete discontinuation of the physical visitor center is the right way to go. The importance of the personal and physical meeting is highlighted by both respondents and theories.

Full textThis study examined free recall performance in two acoustic conditions, speech and masked speech. Thirty-two students participated in the study. They were visually presented to word lists that were constructed by semantic similarity. After presentation the participants were instructed to recall as many words as possible in free order. The recall session occurred in the two different speech conditions. Based on earlier studies two hypotheses were stated; when the background speech were mixed with masking noise, recall performance of correct words would increase compared to the speech condition. It was also assumed that the masking noise would decrease the number of intrusions from the speech, compare with the number of intrusions made in the unmasked speech condition. The result gave support to the hypothesis that number of correct words increases in masked speech and the number of intrusions decreases in masked speech.

Full textIntroducción: La demanda por odontología estética ha ido en aumento a través del tiempo, siendo el color de los dientes un parámetro importante. Entre los tratamientos mínimamente invasivos para mejorar este aspecto surge el uso de geles clareadores, los cuales pueden variar su efectividad dependiendo de diferentes factores, uno de ellos es el pH, cuya evidencia clínica es escasa. Para llevar a cabo el clareamiento dental, existen diferentes técnicas, una de ellas es la técnica ―in office‖, la que es ampliamente utilizada debido al mayor control que tiene el profesional y la obtención de resultados satisfactorios en poco tiempo. Objetivo general: Comparar el cambio de coloración mediante la técnica ―in office‖ de dos geles clareadores de peróxido de hidrogeno al 35% con diferentes pH hasta el mes post-tratamiento. Metodología: El estudio es un ensayo clínico randomizado, doble ciego, con un diseño de boca dividida. En todos los voluntarios (n = 28) se realizó un clareamiento de la arcada superior con peróxido de hidrógeno al 35% en dos sesiones clínicas. Un gel clareador ácido (pH = 2.0, Pola Office (PO), SDI) se empleó en una hemiarcada, mientras que el otro gel neutro (pH = 7.0, Pola Office Plus (PP), SDI) se usó en la otra hemiarcada. Los cambios de color se evaluaron al inicio (baseline), al término de cada sesión de tratamiento y a la semana y mes post-clareamiento (luego de la segunda y última sesión). El color se midió con el espectrofotómetro Vita Easyshade de acuerdo con el sistema CIELab de Vita. Se calculó la media y desviación estándar de los cambios de color semanales para cada grupo (ΔE). Se utilizó el test Shapiro-Wilk para analizar la normalidad de la distribución y posteriormente el test de Mann-Whitney (α = 0,05) para comparar ambas variables. Resultados: El promedio de la variación total de color registrado inmediatamente después de la segunda sesión de clareamiento, fue similar entre el producto PP (ΔE: 6,4) y PO (ΔE: 6,1), por lo que no hubo diferencia estadística significativa (p 0,441). Lo mismo ocurre con el promedio obtenido a la semana y mes post-tratamiento (p > 0,05). Conclusión: El clareamiento dental ―in office‖ al 35% con geles de diferente pH produce resultados similares en cuanto al cambio de coloración y a la estabilidad de color hasta el mes post- clareamiento dental.

Full textThe non-commissioned officer (NCO) is the competence bearer in the Swedish Armed Forces (SAF) and manages activities in all SAF tasks. In order to be a competence bearer the NCO has to develop deep knowledge within his or hers field of expertise. The SAF has, during the last 40 years, implemented a large number of changes in its command system. The latest change made in 2008, when the NCOs Corps was reinstated, has not been fully implemented which has led to difficulties for an NCO to acquire opportunities to develop the abilities required and proficiency needed to be a viable competence bearer. The SAF and the army have realized that the implementation process has stalled and therefore have issued new guidelines to restart the process, of which the latest was issued in 2019. The study’s aim was to acquire knowledge about the prerequisites, hindrances, possibilities and expectations regarding acquirement of competence for NCOs in two strategical important units, Lv6 and P18. The study’s data was collected from active NCOs serving in the two units. During the execution of the study, prerequisites in the form of old structures emerged that, in spite of the changes in the command system, still lives on and is a hindrance to the NCOs acquisition of skills. An example is the old command system not being dismantled in conjunction with the implementation of the new system. Another example is that today’s NCOs lack incentives for the acquirement of deeper knowledge. They still possess a strong will to enhance themselves, even when they lack formal requirements. The expectations of the SAF guidelines are high, since they highlight what needs to be addressed at different levels for the NCOs acquisition of skills to be successful. The study’s primary conclusion is that the transition to the new command system must be completed to allow the NCOs the opportunity to develop their skillsets to the required levels that the guidelines stipulate and the organization needs to evolve and manage its activities.

Full textThis paper has examined the actual circumstances that affect how police officerstreat offenders in their profession, through qualitative, in-depth interviews withfive police officers. The study also discusses how the police officers look at thepossibility to influence the offender’s criminal activity. The results reports that allrespondents intend to treat offenders with respect, but the treatment is very muchdependent on the perpetrators acts against the police officers. Whetherrespondents gave space to reflect on the offender’s background varied to somedegree. Though some respondents said that the reflection was given much spacewhile others said that they rarely thought about offender’s backgrounds. Theability to influence offender’s criminal activity as police officers was described asrestricted by the respondents. If the offender doesn’t want to leave the criminallifestyle, it is impossible for the police to influence the offender, according to therespondents.

Full textThe purpose of this study was to examine treaters experiences of the sex offence treatment programme Sex offence treatment with individualized focus [Seif] in correctional facilities in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted and analysed using thematic analysis. Three main themes were identified: Treaters’ conditions, The treatment process and The clients’ special conditions. The result of the study showed that the participants experienced their work as relatively demanding but overall meaningful and enjoyable. Support and supervision were deemed central to coping with demanding elements. The participants described the way they worked with the method and conveyed the individualized adjustments and the therapeutic relationship as prominent factors for treatment results. The participants further described that the clients’ life in a correctional facility had a special effect on the treatment and that the shame associated with sex offences could hinder clients to participate in the treatment.

Full textMusculoskeletal disorders (MSD) constitute a major health problem. The symptoms consist of pain in muscles, joints, ligaments and surrounding tissues. Two causes of MSD in office work are stress and sedentary behaviour. The purpose of this study was to test the hypotheses that stress and sedentary behaviour are associated individually with MSD and associates more with MSD together than separately. The number of participants was 100 office workers, 48 women and 52 men, with sit and stand tables. The average age of all participants was 42 years. They responded to a five-piece web questionnaire to measure the variables stress and sedentary behaviour in relation to MSD. The standardized instruments PSS-10 (Perceived Stress Scale - 10) and NMQ (Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire) were used, among other things, in the survey. Data was analyzed with multiple linear regression, two separate simple linear regressions and stepwise regression. The results showed statistical significance for stress and sedentary behavior together, only stress was associated with MSD (p = 0.011). The result of the two simple linear regressions resulted in stress associated with MSD (p = 0.008) while sedentary behavior did not (p = 0.280). the null hypotheses could not be rejected because sedentary behaviour did not associate with MSD and a comparison between adjusted R2 gave stress separately (adjusted R2 = 0.061) a better model than stress and sedentary behavior together (adjusted R2 = 0.056).
