Full textAll people are own individuals and our individual differences affect how we experience a sociotechnical system. There is a problematic situation among systems where they cannot live up to the expectations of organizations. From a wellbeing perspective it implies that the systems do not fulfill our fundamental psychological needs which are competence, autonomy and relatedness. There are some finished sociotechnical systems whose purpose are to contribute to increased wellbeing among employees in organizations. The issue regarding finished sociotechnical systems is that it cannot adopt to organizations needs the same way a new sociotechnical system could. Also, there is another problematic situation with processes of design among new sociotechnical systems where not enough consideration is taken to the social and technical context as a unit because there is a disconnection between methods regarding socio technical systems. When systems are not designed with enough consideration to wellbeing among employees it can cause stress related to work. This examination has taken the perspectives of informatics, psychology and Human Resources to counteract this problem. Criterias have been formulated from the results of the literature search to be applied to finished sociotechnical systems. Two of the finished sociotechnical systems fulfilled most of the criterias but a problem was still highlighted since not enough consideration have been taken to personal meetings and individual differences. The result of the discussion ends up in design principles which build a ground for further research and opportunities of development among sociotechnical systems in relationship to wellbeing among employees in organizations.

Full textBackground: The use of dietary supplements has increased in recent years. Which leads to the continuous production of new supplements that have no evidence of effect. A dietary supplement that has gained increased interest in recent years is β-alanine. For activities where glycolysis is stimulated and lactic acid production is high, β-alanine has been suggested to be an effective supplement. The effects and functions of ß-alanine in the body are not fully established. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of ß-alanine supplementation on muscle carnosine concentration, blood lactate, muscle strength and endurance/time to exhaustion. Method: The study is designed as a systematic literature study with meta-analysis. Pubmed was used as a database for the literature search. Meta-assays were performed for carnosine concentration and blood lactate. Result: Dosage at 3.2g / day of β-alanine for 4 weeks shows significant effects on carnosine concentration. The size of the effect on carnosine concentration between the groups after 4 weeks of supplementation was 1,255 (p = 0.001). The effect size between the groups for 8-10 weeks was 2,054 (p = 0.008). No significant effects on blood lactate, the effect size between the groups was 0.148 (p = 0.278). Significant effect of βalanine on time to fatigue (TTE) in high intensity cycling. β-alanine supplementation showed significant effects on a repetition max (1RM) and whole body strength (WBS). 2 Conclusion: β-alanine supplementation with a dosage of at least 3.2g / day for 4 weeks gives a significant increase in muscle carnosine concentration. Larger dosages than 3.2g does not show greater effect. β-alanine does not have a significant effect on blood lactate. Significant effect was shown on TTE for high intensity cycling sprints. The ßalanine supplemental effect on muscle strength is difficult to identify because only two studies could be included.

Full textThis BA thesis is a meta-analysis that reviews 21 empirical studies on Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and gender-relations among military families and the environmental structures in where they live and operate. All studies were published between 1978 and 2011 and reported Intimate Partner Violence in both military and civilian families, atrocities committed by both male and female soldiers and causalities on war and violence. My aim is to test the theory that says; war is depending on patriarchal gender-structures, that construct stereotype masculinities and femininities, which define men as strong, aggressive, and unemotional, while women are assumed to be weak, vulnerable, and caring. By examining both positivist and constructivist research, my ambition is to identify differences and similarities in those approaches, which can contribute to a wider understanding on this specific phenomenon.

Full textBackground: Physical activity correlates with both physical and psychological health markers. With increased age the physical activity levels decrease and less people reach the recommendations. School interventions can be relevant solutions to improve physical activity among youth since they spend a lot of time in school. Earlier research indicate that it is hard to obtain maintainable effects from school interventions. What might be needed are long-lasting interventions to maintain the improved physical activity levels among the students. For the interventions to last in the long-term it is necessary for them to be self-implemented, meaning that the social actors implement the interventions. Purpose: To investigate the effects on physical activity in long-term, self-implemented school interventions with the aim to increase physical activity among older youth. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, CINAHL, SCOPUS, ERIC and Web of Science were searched for RCT studies ending with at least 6 months of self-implemented intervention. Only studies using objective measurement methods were included. Sub-group analyses were performed to find correlations between certain composed factors and an improved intervention effect. The measures which were investigated were daily moderate to vigorous physical activity (or MVPA) in minutes, daily percentage of MVPA and daily physical activity on light, moderate or vigorous intensity. Results: A total of nine studies were included and seven of them showed positive effects. Positive effects were found for all measures except daily percentage of MVPA. Among the studies included in the meta-analysis there was a positive effect for daily MVPA in minutes with 2.04 (95% CI, 0.02, 4.05; P=0.05). The sub-group analysis showed that parental involvement and an involvement of both genders led to the best intervention effects. Conclusion: This study shows that long-term self-implemented school interventions have a small effect on physical activity in all intensities. The evidence has its limits though and more future research is needed.

Full textThe purpose of this essay is to explain how peer groups and social hierarchies are an essential part of, and generate bullying among school adolescents. This has been conducted through qualitative meta-analysis of research articles, which have been interpreted through sociological theories on stigmatization and power relationships between minor social groups. The results are presented through a grounded theory approach and analyzed by meta-analytic methods and discourse analytic ontology. The analysis indicates that peer groups and social hierarchies are stages of complex social processes, between the formations of school classes up until bullying breaks out. The essay concludes that further research of each causal relationship is needed in future research. The causalities also need to be considered when preventing social hierarchies and intervening in school bullying situations.
