Biguanides are versatile organic compounds known for their broad applications in medicinal chemistry, coordination chemistry, and catalysis. Biguanide, C₂N₅H₇ is a nitrogen donor bidentate ligand. Structurally, they contain two linked guanidine moieties, which enable strong chelation with metal ions, forming stable complexes. The ability of biguanides to interact with transition metals has led to the development of metal-biguanide complexes with remarkable biological and catalytic properties. These complexes exhibit diverse coordination modes influenced by steric and electronic factors, result

Around the world, biguanides like metformin are often used to treat type-2 diabetes. Biguanides were created as a result of the discovery of guanidine and similar substances in the French lilac plant (Galegaofficinalis L.). Using the common medication metformin, the produced compounds were tested for their anti-diabetic properties. Drugs' mechanisms of action are determined by their electrical and structural makeup. Pharmacophoric feature detection is aided by accurate structural depiction of medications. Although biguanide derivatives are a significant class of pharmaceuticals, little is know

Тhe article provides a clinical observation of the development of a rare pathological condition of lactic acidosis in a patient with acute kidney injury while taking metformin and confirms the need for timely determination of blood lactate. Тhe clinical case confirms that the development of lactic acidosis in a patient with diabetes mellitus may have a mixed etiology and be associated not only with the use of metformin, but also with the presence of tissue hypoxia, exposure to an infectious process, and impaired renal function. The development of lactic acidosis is associated with

ABSTRACTNovel use of biguanides as catalysts for the efficient synthesis of five‐membered cyclic carbonates (5CCs) from CO2 and epoxides has been developed. Among biguanides and their salts, biguanide hydroiodide showed efficient catalysis for the 5CC formation under mild conditions. The catalytic system was successfully applied to the synthesis of not only monofunctional 5CCs but also multifunctional ones.

AbstractTraditional bulk hydrogels containing antibiotics or metal ions often fall short in effectively treating wound infections due to mechanical limitations, bacterial resistance, and potential cytotoxicity. To address these challenges, an extracellular matrix (ECM)‐inspired antibacterial fibrous hydrogel featuring an anisotropic topological structure is developed that closely mimics the natural ECM environment. A novel antibacterial agent, PHMB‐VAN‐Gd (PVG), is synthesized by reacting polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) with O‐Vanillin (VAN) to form the Schiff base ligand PHMB‐VAN (PV), fol

Abstract In this paper, the plasmonic induced absorption (PIA) effect is numerically studied in a plasmonic metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide coupled with disk and arc-shaped resonators. The PIA spectrum characteristics and magnetic field distributions are investigated by the Finite difference-time domain method (FDTD) method, the PIA effect originated from the coupling of two resonance modes excited by the disk resonator and the arc-shaped resonator. The coupling mode theory (CMT) is used to fit the PIA transmission spectrum, and the calculated result fits well with the simulated spectrum

Metformin is a popular biguanide medicine because of its efficacy and inexpensive cost. Over time, other applications of metformin were found, and the advantages of metformin for diverse conditions such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antimicrobial, and many more were studied. Although the underlying mechanism of these numerous benefits remains unknown, repurposing it is a smart concept, as it offers several advantages, including reduced development and research costs. Either subunit alone is catalytically inactive, but together they work as an active enzyme highly specific for metformin. The crystal structure of the MetCaCb complex shows the coor
