The compounds tris(N-ռ-propyl-3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyridinonato) aluminum(III), -gallium(III), and -indium(III) and tris(N-ռ-butyl-3-hydroxy-2-methyl-4-pyridinonato)aluminum(III), -gallium(III), and -indium(III) were synthesized. All six compounds were prepared via the metal template effect. They were characterized by IR, FAB-MS, ¹H NMR, ²⁷Al NMR, and elemental analysis. Investigations presented here are (a) the study of reorientational dynamics and internal rotation in transition metal complexes by NMR relaxation experiments, and (b) the study of ligand exchange dynamics in transition metal complexes by exchange NMR experiments. The phenyl ring rotation in Ru3(CO)9(μ3-CO)(μ3-NPh) and Re(Co)2(CO)10(μ3- CPh) was monitored by 13C NMR relaxation experiments to probe intramolecular electronic and/or steric interactions. The work described herein focuses on the synthesis and characterisation of copper(I) complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands, their use in catalysis as well as organometallic synthesis and related reaction mechanisms. Two classes of complexes were considered: neutral NHC-Cu(I) species and their cationic analogues. Concerning the former, initial efforts were focused on the development of a general and straightforward synthetic methodology towards complexes of the type [Cu(X)(NHC)] (X = Cl, Br, I). More than 10 NHC-Cu(I) species were synthesised in high yields under mild condition
