Abstract:
In this thesis, two-dimensional materials such as graphene are tested for their suitability for opto-electronic applications using terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). This ultrafast all-optical technique can probe the response of novel materials to photoexcitation, and yield information about the dynamics of the material systems. Graphene grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) is studied using optical-pump THz-probe time domain spectroscopy in a variety of gaseous environments in Chapter 4. The photoconductivity response of graphene grown by CVD is found to vary dramatically depen

Currently, the electrodes of most commercial supercapacitor are made of carbon which is known to be inexpensive and has high resistance to corrosion. These carbon based supercapacitors operate under EDLC. They offer fast charging/discharging rates and have the ability to sustain millions of cycles without degrading. With their high power densities, they bridge the gap between batteries which offer high energy densities but are slow in char

Desulfurization of liquid and gas phase sulfur compounds has been receiving dramatic attention since sulfur compounds cause environmental damages (especially acid rain) and pose industrial challenges (i.e. corrosion of equipment and deactivation of catalysts). This thesis has focused on the removal of liquid phase aromatic sulfur compounds (i.e. thiophene or dibenzothiophene (DBT)), as well as on the removal of gas phase hydrogen sulfide (H2S) through adsorption method by metal oxide/graphene composites. More specifically, the effects of graphene (or reduced graphite oxide) as a substrate were

So we apply magnetic materials into the process of the capacitor to cause carriers transport through built-in magnetic field, and we choose a high conductivity as electrodes. FePt is selected as magnetic material, and graphene is for electrodes. There are three parts in this thesis. the first part is the design and fabrication of MIM structure. The second part are introductions of the magnetic annealing system and the method for built-in mag

Unfortunately, the performance of the single-layer graphene device may be limited due by its one-atomic-layer thickness. To order to overcome the obstacle, corporation of graphene with plasmonic structure or integrating graphene with cavities have been proposed to improve the device performance.
