Jansson, Måns. "Making Metal Making : Circulation and Workshop Practices in the Swedish Metal Trades, 1730–1775." Doctoral thesis, Uppsala universitet, Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen, 2017. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-320274.

Abstract:
This dissertation is concerned with the making of metal making. It explores how skills, knowledge, and artefacts were circulated and grounded within the Swedish metal trades during the period ca. 1730 to 1775. It also analyses how these processes were related to different ways of organising practices of work. The metal trades are referred to as comprising various forms of state-supported metal manufacturing outside the guild system. The focus is on finer metal making (finsmide), above all cutlery making. The first chapter discusses the theoretical and methodological approaches. Critical to the analysis are the terms strategies and tactics, which are used to approach the interplay of different ways of knowing and acting in everyday metal making. This is done related to a trajectorial method. The trajectories of state official Samuel Schröder and the Stockholm cutler Eric Engberg are centred, but I also explore one broader skills-trajectory: the ‘English way’ of making cutlery. Chapters 2 to 4 examine the strategic stage for metal making, focusing on the attempts made by the eighteenth-century Swedish state to order the domestic trades in line with ideas of an all-embracing division of labour. This development is investigated by discussing regulations, spatial mapping and supervision, as well as descriptions and ‘corrections’ of workshop practices. Chapters 5 to 7 highlight the interplay of strategies and tactics within a changing manufacturing ‘system’. Artisans’ journeys, the construction of workshops in Stockholm, and the introduction of piecework at provincial knife works during the 1750s and 1760s are explored. The discussion leads up to the founding of a ‘free town’ for metal-making artisans in Eskilstuna in 1771. The results of this dissertation add to Swedish research on early-modern metal making in a number of ways. Urban space and the connections between metal-making communities are highlighted. In doing this, emphasis is placed on how practices of work were shaped over time by the movements of people, artefacts, and materials. Most notably, the circulation, imitation, and local adaption of knowledge and skills within the metal trades are accentuated. These findings also connect to recent research concerned with manufacturing and knowledge-making in pre-industrial Europe.

Abstract:
The International Workshop on "Measuring Techniques in Liquid Metal Flows" (MTLM Workshop) was organised in frame of the Dresden "Innovationskolleg Magnetofluiddynamik". The subject of the MTLM Workshop was limited to methods to determine physical flow quantities such as velocity, pressure, void fraction, inclusion properties, crystallisation fronts etc. The present proceedings contain abstracts and viewgraphs of the oral presentations. During the last decades numerical simulations have become an important tool in industry and research to study the structure of flows and the properties of heat and mass transfer. However, in case of liquid metal flows there exists a significant problem to validate the codes with experimental data due to the lack of available measuring techniques. Due to the material properties (opaque, hot, chemical aggressive) the measurement of flow quantities is much more delicate in liquid metals compared to ordinary water flows. The generalisation of results obtained by means of water models to real liquid metal flows has often to be considered as difficult due to the problems to meet the actual values of non-dimensional flow parameters (Re, Pr, Gr, Ha, etc.). Moreover, a strong need has to be noted to make measuring techniques available to monitor and to control flow processes in real industrial facilities.

van, Schalkwyk Cornelis Rudolf. "[RE]Claiming Vigour : Designing an Urban Industrial Complex in Mamelodi Human Settlements and Urbanism." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/65077.

Abstract:
Mamelodi still remains captive in the spatial legacy of Apartheid. With long travel times and virtually no employment opportunities in Mamelodi, the status quo is difficult for inhabitants to deal with. Economic theory suggests that industrial programmes employ the largest number of people, and are the most effective ways to grow the economy. Additionally, workers for industrial jobs rarely require intricate training or education, creating the ideal platform for entry level jobs. A theoretical investigation looked at the validity of functionalism for an industrial programme, but found it lacking. Critics charged functionalism with not considering all the functions a building serves unintentionally, which led to an additional layer of theory being added to the process. This was critical regionalism, selected for being contextually sensitive and appropriate whilst remaining grounded and practical about modernity. Precedents looked at the spaces Industries in Mamelodi used and the spaces international industries use, taking lessons from that. A site was chosen and analysed, and all the research was distilled into four drivers: Industry, Railway link, Level Change, and Modularity. This is quickly developed into a concept of creating an energy conduit, as a means to transfer the vigourous energy of Mamelodi to the outside world. And this finally led to a design. Located on a steep hillside, the design negotiates some steep conditions and staggers a bunch of separate buildings over the site. Breaking the monolith, these buildings also create intimate public spaces in-between, that become populated with the happenings of everyday life. Four chimney towers serve as beacons, and create small thermally comfortable spots in the public spaces. Shading devices extend indoor programs into the public realm, trying to blur the threshold between them. The building is adaptable, allowing materials to be re-used on a new location, and follows a strict grid and modular. This allows for the easy expansion and changing of spaces, as businesses should require. Further, pooling resources together allows the industries far greater access to services, systems and resources than they would be capable of acquiring on their own. And lastly, the central location with the railway and road links the industries not only with their employees but also to potential markets, allowing for greater profit and more sustainable economic empowerment. This dissertation shows a method for bringing economic empowerment to Mamelodi, using industrial programmes that share resources. It is possible to do this in a contextually sensitive way, without compromising on the quality of the spaces.

Abstract:
The thesis is placed in the movement of the psychiatric reform in Brazil. From a partnership firmed between URI - Campus Santo Ângelo and psychosocial attention center (CAPS) was constructed project. It aims at the constitution of virtual spaces for nets and exchanges between for people in need of mental health care. In the continuation of three years group-workshops of computer with thirty people in psychic suffering had been carried through. Such process was registered in daily of formal and informal field, interviews with participants and team of the CAPS, photographs, filmings, archives of data. The thesis had as objective to map the relations human being-machine and the occured compositions of nets. One is about a qualitative research, in the intervention research. The theoretical referencial that marked out with buoys the thesis was the Philosophy of the Difference in the perspective to think the processes of subjetivation and the technology as well as the control society; articulated with ways of subjectivation and power relations based on a Foucaultian approach; and about institution. From the cartography he was possible to carried through couplings manmachine in the workshop, the displacement of the place for the participant for the one of creator. Thus, the coupling with the digital technology had a vector for the constitution of a common one, but not in the communitarian direction and yes in the “desobramento” of the production as constitution of the same workmanship. This if gave in collective works having as vector the religion, familiar subjects of interest of the participants (as search of information on diseases, treatment, prescriptions, images, cards) and relations with and team of the CAPS.

Abstract:
The principal objective of this paper is to explore attachment, empathy, and mentorship in a group of adolescents that participated in an art therapy based workshop. The premise for research formed when researchers participated in the week long Summer Arts Workshop (SAW) with Latino youth from a lower SES area in Los Angeles. Through the theoretical lens of attachment researchers inquired if participating in this workshop contributed to a corrective emotional experience due to the relationships with both peer and adult mentors. Utilizing the methodology of a focus group we collected data with an art therapy based directive, which aimed to uncover the impact the workshop had on the lives of four individuals who participated in the workshop each year. After the data was analyzed researchers found that SAW contributed to prosocial behavior by way of healthy attachment and increased empathic understanding. This paper supports ways community art outreach may prove to be a reparative experience for adolescents. This study may offer understandings to both therapists and educators interested in helping at-risk youth. Findings may support research indicating the artistic process enhances empathic understanding and healthy relationships with peers and adults.

Abstract:
School settings are increasingly being targeted as ideal entry points for youth mental health initiatives and naturally, educators have been identified as playing a critical role in supporting youth in distress. The current study set out to investigate how to strengthen the ability of educators to support youth experiencing bullying and mental health difficulties. The study was conducted in two phases: an initial phase in which a mental health literacy and communication skills workshop for educators was developed and refined, and a second phase in which the workshop was pilot-tested. The 2-hour workshop was delivered to two groups of students (N = 35) in a Teacher’s Education (B.Ed.) program at a Canadian university. Participants completed a questionnaire following the workshop to assess their satisfaction with the workshop experience and their degree of change in knowledge and awareness of bullying and mental health difficulties, as well as self-efficacy and perceived confidence in communicating with young people in distress. Results showed that participant satisfaction with the workshop was high and that most participants would recommend the workshop for pre-service and in-service teachers. In addition, participant knowledge, awareness, self-efficacy, and self-confidence in communicating with youth in distress increased from pre- to post-workshop. Taken together, the results of the pilot study provide support for further development and delivery of this workshop to pre-service and in-service teachers to help prepare educators for the complex, demanding, and vital role of supporting young people in distress due to bullying and mental health difficulties.

Abstract:
This research is a qualitative exploration of the impacts of Loyola Marymount’s Summer Arts Workshop from the perspective of the youth participant’s teachers and caregivers. The intention of this research was to compare findings in the literature of similar youth arts programs to LMU’s through examination of a previously unexplored perspective. Data was collected through an arts based focus group as well as paper-pencil questionnaires including both Likert scale and open ended questions. Themes emerged through thorough analysis of all data collected and presented both themes of specific program impacts and opportunities for future program improvements. The findings of this research further illuminate established assertions found within the literature of prosocial impacts produced within youth participation in community arts programs. Additionally upon expansion of emergent themes, the researcher established the findings of LMU’s Summer Arts Program to positively impact adolescents and identity development, generate gains in social capital and produce positive community impacts through art making.

Abstract:

Due to the increasing number of persons of Arab descent living in the United States, estimated at over 3.5 million in 2012, there has been a recognized need for a deeper understanding of acculturative, gender, and immigration-related stressors that Arab American women face. In response to this need, a one-day workshop for mental health professionals interested in or currently working with women of Arab descent living in the United States was developed. The workshop focuses on increasing knowledge of the various types of stress (e.g., acculturation, discrimination, gender role strain, parent-child relationships, care giver, familial, cultural expectations, work, school, etc.) experienced by Arab American women and providing culturally congruent stress reduction interventions. The development of the curriculum was informed by existing literature on people of Arab descent living in the United States, cultural issues in serving diverse populations, and stress management interventions. Interviews with 3 Arab American women were integrated with the literature and the 1-day workshop curriculum was developed. The curriculum was reviewed by 2 current practicing psychologists who rated the content, strengths, and weaknesses of the curriculum. Their feedback was incorporated into a compilation of suggestions and future directions for the refining and evaluating curriculum.

Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to report how an experience with video technology changed the way the actions were coordinated, the distinctions and emotions are produced in the group of people who work and use the mental health service, o CAPS II Cais Mental Centro/POA. The Image Workshop is a therapeutic activity, in which there are image productions, and they can be transformed into many films. The research focuses on the effects that are trigged through the problematization, concerned to a serie of video images, produced by the group that participated of the Workshop, that were discarded, as well as on the others that were used in the construction of a film. The group was not sure which images could be used in the film. At the Editing Workshop, it was suggested that the discarded images, the nonsense ones, could be used: the ones that were blurred, blur and did not fit in the construction of a video, so we concluded that it was possible to add what was considered firstly something excluded. Editing was performed by the group in the digital image editing, through the Windows Movie Maker. The process trigged many other networks for dialogue, different from the one that was constructed at the Image Workshop inicially, but we cannot consider the former more or less important than the recently produced, they were just seen as new and an opportunity to share experiencies. So, we invit the reader to follow, through the pachwork effect (a narrative resource), the operative replacement that were produced in the Workshops, in the network dialogues. Thus, through a methodological perspective of an intervention research, we present some of the replacement, produced at Editing Image Workshop. The experience that the participants of the group had with the computer, the editing and discarted images, changed the networks for dialogue, that were performed in the action and while the images were produced, so that they develop social inclusion, authorship and the construction of many other ways to deal with health/mental illness, building a new plan of sharing and also political, when many experiences were operated in a level whose experience were shared by all the participantes.

Abstract:
Thesis (MOccTher)--Stellenbosch University, 2015.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: South African Protective Workshops struggle to transform to align to a developmental human rights approach and to increase sustainability in the absence of a uniform model and an implementation strategy. This study applied qualitative research methodology in the form of Action Research with Co-operative Inquiry to answer the research question of what could be a framework of best practice for and strategy of transformation for protective workshops (PWs) operated by the South African Federation for Mental Health (SAFMH) in South Africa. It included the development of a transformation strategy for 31 PWs for adults with intellectual disability operated by SAFMH member organisations across South Africa. Seven representatives from the managers and service users of PWs were selected trough convenient sampling. The participants formed a co-operative inquiry group to determine the nature of the service to be delivered and how it should be implemented. The purpose was to develop a framework for possible and relevant services for persons with intellectual disability. Such services should preferably be aligned to the human rights based legislation and funding requirements of the Department of Social Development as to increase the long-term sustainability of the PWs. Given that the study was funded by the SAFMH, the directors requested that the Co-operative Inquiry Group use the exisisting best practice model used by Cape Mental Health as a template and point of departure. The study was done over a 12-month period (February 2012 – February 2013) and included a research initiation meeting, four search conferences and a presentation of the findings to the SAFMH Directors. The study contributed new knowledge on the nature of service provision to persons with ID and the ideal process to transform services within the SAFMH context. Through inductive content analysis two themes emerged namely: 1) Comprehensive service provision and 2) Coordinated transformation of services. The first theme determined that comprehensive services to persons with ID should consist of inclusive, appropriate, enabling and empowering services. The second theme suggested a new way of coordinating the transformation of services through systematic implementation, suitable regulation, sufficient capacity and ensuring sustainability. A central management structure was suggested to ensure coordinated implementation, to secure funding and to monitor and evaluate the implementation. A mind-shift towards new thinking was identified as a prerequisite for stakeholders buy-in on transformed service delivery. This mind-shift relates to the status of the service users with ID as adults in training towards employment in the open labour market and maximum integration into society. This study contributed new knowledge that informs the development of a new service delivery framework of best practice. The proposed implementation strategy could offer persons with ID the opportunity to progress and develop towards their maximal level of integration into society. It further provided PWs with possibilities for conceptualising different models of practice in the form of an implementable framework and a strategy to transform services. The findings were presented to the SAFMH Directors who adopted the concept framework and implementaimplementation strategy in theory as a proposal for future transformation without amendments.

The alcoholic has long been seen only by their symptoms, their dynamics and their destructive disease, regardless of its subjective. The care guidelines proposed by public policies are focused on medication, on the relief of clinical symptoms, restricted to the abstinence and not taking into account the subject’s psychic relationship with alcohol. This paper proposes a discussion on a proposal for a comprehensive care to alcoholic subjects, which adopts the therapeutic workshops as an instrument to implement their contractuality network. Thus, we resort to the psychoanalysis as the theoretical foundation, and to the intercessor method as a specific directive of knowledge generation to understand the alcoholic as a psychic subject – its significance to the drug object – and social – as the product and the producer of its social and affective relations. This methodology allows us to consider the wishes and needs of the subjects, their decisions toward their everyday problems; as a generator of knowledge, their starring role in their own life, their actions and the responsibility for their treatment as well as the possibility of changing the reality of which they are part. This study is based on the analysis of an alcoholic subject, assisted in a mental health institution. It discusses the workshops as therapeutic proposals to treat the alcoholic subjects, aiming to develop a project of an extended-clinic which adopts actions in social contractualism networks, through strategies of Psychosocial Treatment

Abstract:
This study looks at the Summer Arts Workshop (SAW) and its impacts on the adult facilitators that are involved in the workshop’s programming and implementation. The study seeks to gain an understanding of how the workshop could be improved in order to strengthen the workshop so that its adolescent participants could continue to benefit from attending it. The research question is: What are the impacts of a therapeutically informed summer arts workshop/camp with adolescents according to participants? Strengths? Space for improvements? This study is a qualitative approach utilizing a semi-structured interview. The analysis of the data from the four interviews found several common emergent themes that highlighted the strengths of SAW, such as helping to expand childhood surroundings and experience and creating a space for self-expression and creativity while also shedding light on common areas of improvement, such as creating a mentorship training program and increasing the length and scope of the program. With these findings, SAW can extrapolate the necessary data to use in creating a stronger program for its adolescent participants.

Promoveu a autoestima e a autoconfiança.

Abstract:
This research project examines an array of art prompts and projects that have been used in program-based art making workshops to facilitate creative expression amongst those who have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis. The review of literature emphasizes the value of this research, as the field of healing arts programs/expressive arts workshops in cancer care is varied and sparse. While there is substantial research that indicates art therapy to be a highly valued and accepted clinical intervention used in cancer care, there is little research that focuses on the specific role of art making with cancer patients/survivors and even less research on program-based art making workshops. As an artist and cancer survivor, this research incorporates my lived experiences to inform the cataloging, evaluation, and analysis of five art projects completed and used as inspiration for a program-based art-making workshop. The artworks included are an altered book, a cloth doll, a paper mask, a wooden box, and a Styrofoam head. The five central themes that arose from these five particular projects include that they were fun/engaging, encouraged play/experimentation, increased self-understanding, fostered the need to creatively express unexpressed emotions, and offered a sense of pride/accomplishment. This preliminary research project suggests that a broader investigation is needed in order to gather a deeper understanding of the impact of program-based expressive arts workshops as a healing modality with this patient population.

Abstract:
With the reform of psychiatry in many new services substitutive mental health care as well as proposals for new treatment strategies in psychosocial rehabilitation to people in distress. Are possibilities of assistance that typify the mental health services, such as therapeutic workshops, among other designations. The workshops meet the mental health group activities for socialization and expression, emphasizing the uniqueness of the subject and subjectivity in psychological distress in space crafts, recreational and socio-economic factors. This paper describes the experience of the therapeutic effects of a workshop body, the Group FISIO, with users in psychological distress that attended the mental health service Center for Therapeutic Workshops and Labour (Núcleo de Oficinas Terapêuticas e do Trabalho - NOTT), in the years 2006 to 2008, a period where the service was operating in the municipality of Porto Ferreira, São Paulo. We sought to describe and report the experience of twelve users who participated in the Group as a treatment strategy for FISIO on the process of psychosocial rehabilitation. This workshop body favored the spontaneous demand for participation, applying techniques of stretching, relaxation exercises and playful to obtain body perception. The aim was to investigate the experience of this workshop, and describe their contributions to the psychosocial rehabilitation process. To this end, there was a case study, with the qualitative research. The methodological tools that were used to investigate and describe the contributions of FISIO were the notes in a field diary, in the medical records and records of service NOTT and semi-structured interview that asked about the bodily effects perceived before and after participating in the Group. To this end, the analysis of data collected were processed with the thematic analysis, the construction of categories that signaled the most significant speeches of the participants. The results discussed show contributions of the workshop the users body in psychological distress in the process of psychosocial rehabilitation, through the recognition of the body, improved self-esteem, autonomy and manual skills, recognized in implementing other workshops that made up the service, and showed subjective improvement in daily activities. The data from this study showed that the fact that the service is disabled changed to evaluate the possibility of a more plausible outcome in terms of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery of citizenship. The discontinuity of a specific device for these people broke the assistance and the prospect of progress that the body workshop.

The aim of this study is to describe and analyze how the therapeutic theatre workshop, guided by the Theatre of the Oppressed's theory, influences on users' contractual power and autonomy from a CAPS I. We have carried out, initially, a literature review, which contextualizes the theoretical and practical bases of the Brazilian psychiatric reform, where we present the first experiments with art and the current form as this work more specifically the theatre, has been used in several Mental Health devices in the country. Then, we have outlined the Theatre of the Oppressed's methodology, Augusto Boal and his contributions to the Mental health field, to later perform a dialogue between this theory and the Pedagogy of the oppressed by Paulo Freire. Then, we present the work of drama therapy workshop, held in CAPS I of Puerto Real, in the State of Rio de Janeiro. We carry out filming in this workshop for seven meetings and a focus group. From there we conducted a thematic analysis of the ideas that we have seen of this material. This analysis revealed that the experience with the theatre workshop has helped in the treatment, providing reflections and actions that could be related to an increase of autonomy and power.

Abstract:
Gradient surfaces exhibit a variation in functionality along the length of the surface. One method for preparing gradients is controlled-rate infusion (CRI). In Part 1 of this work, CRI was used to prepare gradients for the purpose of separating transition and heavy metals. Initial work on this project was focused on controlling the retention of the metal ions by varying the number of amine groups, aminoalkoxysilane concentration, and the infusion time. The retention factors of four metal ions varied predictably with increasing number of amine groups, increasing aminoalkoxysilane concentration, and increasing infusion time, producing small but useful changes in the retention factors. The continuation of this project involved the preparation of two-dimensional multi-component gradients on TLC plates, which were used to separate six transition and heavy metals. The retention, and thus the separation, was affected by the presence or absence of a gradient and the direction of the gradient. Part 2 of this work focused on understanding the factors that motivated instructors in the early and late stages in the process of change. Instructors who attended the POGIL-PCL (Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning in the Physical Chemistry Laboratory) workshops were asked to complete online surveys. The goals of the first survey were to understand the factors that initially interested instructors in POGIL-PCL, to determine if instructors enter the implementation stage, and to understand the factors that affect how instructors implement POGIL-PCL. Later surveys were designed to explore the development of the POGIL-PCL network and assess whether implementation is sustained over time.

Abstract:
This thesis was inspired by the desire to pursue ways to perform research and intervention through photography, and in the recognition of the possibilities of constructing new practices in the field of mental health. It took place in the context of the Oficinando em Rede research and extension project – a partnership between the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and the Integrated Center for Psychosocial Care of Children and Adolescents (CIAPS) of the São Pedro Psychiatric Hospital in Porto Alegre, Brazil. This project develops technological workshops – on internet, robotics, photography and video – with hospital workers and young patients. During the photography workshops, we observed that giving cameras to patients and allowing them to use the equipment freely and to produce their own inscriptions generated a feeling of unease in the hospital personnel, due to the torsion of legitimized positions in which patients were usually viewed as objects of specialized medical knowledge. This was due to the fact that photography maintains a similarity relationship with reality which differentiates it from other artistic practices in mental health (such as painting, writing and drawing). On the other hand, if the legitimacy of photography is warranted by the belief in its capability to reproduce reality, exercises of authorship through it are frequently invisible. Our aim was to discuss the ways in which authorship is exercised in the institutional context, and to study the self-experience of workers and patients with regard to the discourses and practices in mental health. In this context, we formulated four propositions for this thesis. The first, theoretical, is based on the concepts of Michel Foucault and consists of establishing relationships between self-experience and exercises of authorship. The second one, also theoretical, aims to discuss the peculiarities of photography through the theories of Gilbert Simondon and consists in analyzing individuation processes in photography. The third, designated as methodological, is to produce knowledge about photography as a research and intervention strategy. The fourth one, empirical, consists of building ways to exercise authorship through photography workshops in the CIAPS. Our field work consisted of organizing photography workshops directed to workers (permanent and third-party) and patients of the CIAPS (outpatients and inpatients). These workshops were divided into three stages: 1) sensitization to the symbolic condition of photography and to the possibility of exercising authorship through photography; 2) requiring subjects to photograph based on the question “What is the CIAPS?” and 3) verbal expression about the experience and photographed images. Our analysis was based on the way in which the proposal was received, on the process of photographing, on the possibilities of exercises of authorship within the institution and on the various readings of the subjects and researchers concerning the photographed images. The photographs and discussions revolved around themes such as imprisonment, contradictions in public policies on mental health and questioning on the role of the psychiatric hospital. Photography was shown to be powerful not only due to its symbolic condition, which emphasized exercises of authorship, but also to its iconic and index positions, which allowed analysis and discussions with workers, patients and the hospital’s ethics committee. Based on this, we believe that the potential of working with photography in research and intervention resides in the construction of strategies which can encompass its epistemiological complexity.

Abstract:
Objective: The concept of recovery has become an integral part of modern mental health care. Understanding the outcomes and underlying mechanisms of key recovery interventions, such as Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), is essential in order to expand the theoretical understanding of recovery and inform how to target recovery in treatment. Therefore a systematic review of the literature was conducted to evaluate the mental health outcomes of WRAP for adults. The empirical study then explored three constructs in relation to WRAP and recovery. These were social problem solving, cognitive defusion and social identification. Method: The systematic review of the mental health outcomes of WRAP was conducted by searching four databases, contacting the authors of WRAP research and seeking evaluative information from organisations that deliver WRAP. Fourteen relevant studies met the inclusion criteria. Whereas, the empirical study recruited participants on a trans-diagnostic basis from across Scotland. Using a quantitative cross sectional design, 109 participant's completed 5 self-report questionnaires. These were the Knowledge, Attitudes and Beliefs about WRAP Questionnaire (WRAP beliefs), the Recovery Assessment Scale - Short (RAS-S), the Social Problem Solving Inventory - Revised - Short (SPSI-R-S), the Four Item Measure of Social Identification (FISI) and the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ). Correlation, regression and mediation analysis were used to explore relationships, and in particular, the predictors and mediators of recovery. Results: The systematic review provided strong evidence that WRAP has a significant positive impact on hope and also reduces the symptoms of mental illness. However, whether WRAP improves personal levels of recovery was unclear and a possible risk of disempowerment was found. Promising preliminary mental health outcomes in the areas of confidence in managing mental health, quality of life, service use, self-advocacy and knowledge attitudes and beliefs about recovery were highlighted. Only studies that did not use peer facilitators failed to find significant increases in hope compared to treatment as usual control groups. In the empirical study, the results indicated that all the constructs examined were correlated to recovery. In the regression analysis, WRAP beliefs, social problem solving and cognitive defusion also demonstrated a predictive relationship with recovery. Mediation analysis indicated that, social problem solving mediated two distinct relationships. One between WRAP beliefs and recovery, and another between cognitive defusion and recovery. The social problem solving subscales also showed how the two predictors relate to recovery through social problem solving in different ways. Social identification with the WRAP group did not significantly predict or mediate recovery. Conclusions: The systematic review indicated having peer facilitators delivering WRAP is key to helping participants foster hope and that a further randomised control trial could help clarify if improved personal recovery is an outcome of WRAP. It additionally suggested how the relationship between WRAP beliefs and recovery could be explored, as per the design of the empirical study. Findings from the empirical study implied that improving participants' social problem solving and cognitive defusion should be specifically targeted in WRAP delivery. The studies combined indicate that to achieve the best recovery results interventions, like WRAP, should target inspiring hope through peer support, improving knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about recovery and cognitive defusion from unhelpful thoughts.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the intersectionality of intensive processes involving work activity, research activity and a self reflexive ethical activity, by looking forward to trace the tenuous line between act and thought of the performed activity. In this way, this research highlights the expressivities that emerge in a co-implied interaction co-implied in the most untraceable gestures and words which compose the set of tasks that perform and des-held the activity itself. The real activity is able to incite thinking and acting processes, through the intensities conferred by a territory. Having this in mind, this research deals with a specific group of workers. They are workers of a Creative Workshop situated in the Psychiatric Hospital São Pedro. It is also important to stress the intertwined relations that involves this specific group of workers, the final user of mental care, the researcher and the agency that produces the research scene itself. In this study, the activity is understood through the framework proposed by Ergology and Clinic of Activity, this in order to compose and trace the expressivities that are inherent regarding pluralistic modes of work. Taking this aim into consideration, I highlight as well the important role played by the concept of territorialization - from Philosophy of Difference -, which enable us to see how a time is engendered in repetition, which can be amplified concerning its potential of differing. As methodological procedures, I propose a clinic-institutional device for the analysis of activity. This method implies on the research writing process itself, the field work conducted through observation of work situations and a focused group analysis of this workers. This research aims to track the deterritorialization movements performed by this group of workers, envisioning a common plan of activity analysis, through which some of the problematics become visible, including an indiscernibility of image, madness, statements and gestures which can be expanded or contracted regarding the different ways of working. In addition, I would like to put in evidence (multi) professional territorializations and its esthetics - between care, expression and clinic- regarding the encounter with mental care users, architectural aspects and the movements of the psychiatric reform in Brazil. Moreover, I also stress the relevance of the collective analysis of activity, since it emerged as an important subtle tool concerning the actions and elaborations produced within the group. Taking all these elements into consideration, this study aims to proliferate the clinical potential expressed by a collective memory of work, by highlighting the points of difference considering the daily life produced by this territory.

A Universal State Policy with population citizenship rights guaranteed constitutes a key element for analysis of social inclusion devices for work on mental health found in Psychosocial Care Network. The construction of the SUS and, most recently, the SUAS has demanded permanent evaluation processes, research and studies, construction management technologies, innovation and social technologies aimed at health care and social and productive inclusion. The research conducted at the Graduate Program in Science, Technology and Society, the Center for Education and Human Sciences, Federal University of São Carlos, at the master's level, aimed to analyze the experiences of seven social inclusion devices for work in the area of mental health, the state of São Paulo. Of qualitative provided understand the relationship between the field Science, Technology and Society, social technologies, the social economy and social inclusion for the work on mental health, by analyzing the operating methods and management of devices. The research was literature review: Brazilian health reform, public policies in mental health, social economy and social technologies. The inclusion in the survey took place after the approval of the manager to participate in the interview with the signing of informed consent and permission of the Municipal Health Department. Data collection started after approval of the CEP- UFSCar through semi-structured interviews. The first part of the interview favored the characterization of the device and the second provided information on the working methodology, everyday actions and objectives of the service. The results indicated that the Brazilian psychiatric reform, through the psychosocial care model, has made access to the town, the house and work. In this scenario, the search for citizenship and the right to work has been a challenge. Promote the generation of jobs and income and overcome the denial of these rights is the task that the devices have been placed. The stakes in group activities and self-managed and in constant formation and networking of making come the tools of political and social transformation. Flat on the Italian model, founded on social cooperatives have shown that although there are more than two decades, the country has not yet consolidated a consistent legal framework to support them in order to provide the stability and expansion of their actions. Co-existing in a fine line between health policies and labor policies, a number of challenges, are seen as potential limiting and the growth thereof, including: the absence of formal and permanent financing; the lack of technical preparation of management and entrepreneurship by content managers and technical staff; the necessary expansion and / or strengthening of cross-sector partnerships; dependence on local policies for continuity of projects; the inability to hire professionals specialized in business and the need to expand the marketing strategies of production. From this perspective, the reflections undertaken by the meeting of scientific and technological production with the social, pointing at new directions for strategic thinking about the devices. Given the above, we conclude that this research was an important trigger for others that might follow up on it, for the emergence of a proposition to assist the development and continued operation of these devices is of paramount importance to the contexts, academic, social and political públicas.

Abstract:
This study is inserted in a larger research project, the Oficinando em Rede, that has been developed in the Integrated Center of Psychological and Social Attention (Centro Integrado de Atenção Psicossocial - CIAPS) of São Pedro Psychiatric Hospital (Hospital Psiquiátrico São Pedro - HPSP), since its creation in 2004. The Oficinando em Rede has been contributing for the implementation of different technologies of attention in this service and has been researching into the formation of nets by its users and staff. The present research - Workshops of Passage Plots: the encounter between technology and the process of being an adolescent in suffering (Oficinando Enredos de Passagem: o encontro do adolescer em sofrimento com a tecnologia) – seeks to investigate how the encounter between young people and digital technology takes place in a space of sharing and listening, a service called Technological Workshops (Oficinas Tecnológicas) that is structured at CIAPS. Constituted at the edge of HPSP, the Center is situated in the passage between technologies and diverse paradigms of attention, what brings subjective effects to the individuals that integrate it. This research has as a starting point the question if the encounter with the computers, including the specificities of its modes of operation in the workshops, can favor – and in which way – the unfolding of plots and narratives by young people that live with hindrances of different orders in the process of becoming adolescents. Additionally, the research aims to comprehend the impasses and the passages that are highlighted by the narratives produced by the young people. It started from the workshops that were developed with six young people under ambulatory care at CIAPS/HPSP, from March 2007 to December 2007. Throughout the analysis of different movements of appropriation of digital technologies, the possibilities of interaction, the shared experiences, addressing and narratives developed in the workshops, the research seeks to answer and re-launch questions that made the development of this dissertation possible.

Abstract:
This work encompasses existential pedagogic experiences which are unique when observed through the interface described by the intersection of Art-Education, Mental Health and Art Therapy, often realized in “Collective Creation Workshops”. Thinking and praxis oriented by the ethics-esthetics axis when exercised through the optics of multidisciplinary fields promotes the articulation and metamorphose of knowledge. Under this paradigm, Collective Creation, the perception of the other and the sense of “staying-together” are potentially aggregated by collaborative interactions. The notion of “Sensibility” under pedagogical terms was explored and analyzed taking into account several source of information like memory, activity narration, and tasks execution, most of them realized at “Collective Mental Health Integral Service”, Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Questions were enriched in detail by the interrelations of nexus and connections definitions mainly developed in the following works: “System Complexity” from Edgar Morin; “Anthropologic Boundaries” from Georges Balandier; “Daily Sociology” from Michel Maffesoli; “Love and Relationship” from Humberto Maturana, “Care” from Martin Heidegger and “Emotion as Rational Foundation” from Antonio Damásio. Under the ethic-esthetic axis of thinking, the process of metamorphic knowledge generation reveals paradoxes often given by politics and pedagogy interrelation when epistemology is the object of speaking. Metamorphose it is then the means by which “Sensibility” in term of pedagogy can be defined and it is concerned to give sense to arguments, works and facts, instantaneous manifestation, states of being intra, inter and trans-personal and at the same time amplifies intensity, mysterious reverberations and a way to keep the necessary respect to handle all things that emerges and nourish from live, how it is exposed, in his splendor and equally in his inscrutability.

Stand-up Comedy in modern Taiwan is much different compared to its orginal form in Chin Dynasty. In the past time, it was performed in the tea shops as higher class performance, both Mr. Wu Zhao-Nan and Mr. Wei Long-Hao were frequenter of the tea shops in their childhood, and they turned to Taiwan due to the war, and were disconnected with Mainland China since the martial law, because of home sick, they became partners and started to perform the Stand-up Comedy in such art form, from radio opera to stage play, they have had built strong base of the Stand-up Comedy in Taiwan. Later on, there was Performance Workshop tried out a new form of play on stage, which was to place Stand-up Comedy as a structure and put it into play, such as The Night We Became Hsiang-Sheng Comedians, Look Who’s Cross-talking Tonight, The Complete History of Chinese Thought, the Stand-up Comedy drama was then borned. The style of Comedians Workshop differs with Performance Workshop. Not only new written Stand-up Comedy script- all dramatic moves follows a throughout topic-, re-arranged scripts combines latest news without missing its original metaphor. But tradition Chinese Stand-up Comedy is a form without any text, it was all up to the actors’ simultaneous reaction and their rapport. Feng Yi-Gang and Song Shao-Qing shows those two points above on stage as characters, and they even go further to show their rapport as actors, they travelled between characters and actors freely, and react or respond to audiences. They could even travel into another deeper level which is the role within the role while they’re doing the play within the play, this kind of self-reflect shows highly developed meta-theatre technique, not only parodied each other and/or mocked the society, but also educated the audiences or even made them a part of the performance, and the audiences weren’t unconsciousness but were also self-reflected at the very moment and helped the performance. The story is never farce as used to, but to mock their target with funny punch line. According to Stand-up Comedy has been developed its unique way in Taiwan, and also acceptced by most people, but didn’t see much about the research of meta-theatre and Stand-up Comedy. Meta-theatre research seems to be trendy in theatre scholar recent years, but it’s very pity that no one talks about its connection to Stand-up Comedy. This article will focus on and analysis the meta-fictional element of Stand-up Comedy from the works of Comedians Workshop, only wish to attract better articles and do as I can for my loved performing art and Stand-up Comedy.

Edwards, Jaymi. "THE EFFECTS OF A MENTAL IMAGERY WORKSHOP ON COACHES’ ENCOURAGEMENT OF IMAGERY USE." Thesis, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/1974/5643.

Full text
Abstract:
Recreational athletes are encouraged to use mental imagery by their coaches less frequently than elite athletes (Jedlic, Hall, Munroe-Chandler, & Hall, 2007). The purpose of this study was to examine whether a mental imagery workshop would increase recreational level coaches’ encouragement of imagery to their athletes when compared to coaches attending a communication workshop. The workshops provided coaches with imagery or communication information and tools as well as role-playing opportunities. Recreational sport coaches (N = 132; M age = 41.80 years, SD = 9.67) completed the Coaches Encouragement of Athletes Imagery Use Questionnaire (CEAIUQ; Jedlic et al.), Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CART-Q; Jowett & Ntoumanis, 2004), and questionnaires assessing coaches’ demographics, confidence, knowledge, and attitudes towards imagery. These questionnaires were completed before the workshop and online four weeks later. Repeated measure MANCOVAs, controlling for sex and highest level coached, were performed comparing the coaches’ encouragement of imagery use, as well as their confidence, attitudes, and knowledge of mental imagery, across the two study groups. No group by time interactions were found for any of the five functions of imagery. However, group by time interactions were found for knowledge (F(1, 132) = 5.45, p = .02, ηp2 = .040), attitudes (F(1,132) = 4.45, p = .01, ηp2 = .055) and confidence (F(1,132),= 7.10, p = .04, ηp2 = .032) towards imagery. Paired-samples t-tests demonstrated that the mental imagery group significantly increased their confidence from baseline to follow-up (t(65) = -2.75, p = .01). Findings provide direction for designing future coach education training programs and aid in understanding recreational sport coaches’ views on encouraging their athletes to use imagery.

Oliveira, Maria Helena Pereira Pires de. "The impact of mental health workshops for community physicians in increasing access to Mental Health Care in a Brazilian primary care setting." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/98118.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Background: Many individuals with mental health disorders remain untreated although effective treatment exists. This is known as the mental health gap. The gap is particularly wide in low and middle income countries, such as Brazil. One of the strategies suggested by the World Health Organization to reduce the gap, is to integrate mental health into primary care. A group of family physicians and psychiatrist created a collaborative care model, in Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil. A series of workshops were delivered to primary care doctors, covering depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance misuse. Objective: To measure mental health referrals from primary to secondary care the year before the beginning of these workshops, and the year after, including the months in which the workshops took place. Method: An observational longitudinal study was conducted, with monthly measures of referrals from primary care to secondary care psychiatry, between October 2017 and October 2019. Twenty physicians who enrolled in the workshops were included in the analysis. The control group consists of 20 physicians working in the same health district who did not attend the workshops. All tests were performed with 95% confidence. The tests applied to samples were: Shapiro-Wilk Normality Test, Wilcoxon Test for two samples and Kruskall Wallis test for comparison of several samples. Results: For those who attended the workshops at least twice, there was a statistically significant decline in referrals, with a P value of 0.04. There is a general trend toward increase in referrals for those who did not attend the workshops, although with no statistical significance, probably due to sample size. Conclusion: The workshops seem to be an interesting strategy to increase access to mental health in primary care, and reduce referrals to secondary care.

Acosta, Angela. "In pursuit of healing-centered education: a case study of a racial literacy and healing professional development workshop series." Thesis, 2020. https://doi.org/10.7916/d8-evx5-1h14.

Abstract:
In an attempt to tackle issues of racism in the U.S. public education system, school districts throughout the country are paying particular attention to how teachers and educational leaders are trained and supported to address issues of racial disparities. As a result of this, there has been a diffusion of various anti-bias and racial literacy-based trainings in some of the largest school systems. This dissertation explored a case study of a unique racial literacy and healing professional development (PD) workshop series within the New York City Department of Education, which was offered to a group composed predominantly of educators of Color. This inquiry was primarily concerned with how the educator of the PD workshop series designed and enacted a healing-centered pedagogy and what were the affordances of such an approach. A number of qualitative research methods—including contemplative inquiry—worked together to understand how this professional learning experience enabled participants to engage in a healing praxis. The PD curriculum structured opportunities for participants to deploy a two-pronged healing praxis, which combined racial literacy and critical consciousness on one side, and healing and self-care on the other. Through the combination of a transformative activist stance, a healing-centered engagement, and an indigenist stance, this study drew on a unique conceptual framework to examine how the PD series enabled participants to: (a) surface feelings of racialized stress and trauma; (b) potentiate their own healing journey; (c) articulate gratitude and cultivate empathy; and (d) explore conflict and cultural fault lines. This work finds a home in the coming wave of scholarship and a canon that considers healing within the context of education as an urgent matter.

Abstract:
Submitted in fulfillment of the requirements Master’s Degree in Technology: Public Management, Durban University of Technology, 2013.
Trauma is worldwide phenomenon that affects many individuals and communities. In the case of South Africa, the apartheid regime has been the major cause of trauma for individuals as well as for communities. Although the Truth and Reconciliation Commission played a kind of healing role for traumatized individuals and communities, many were left unhealed and not reconciled. To bridge the gap left by the TRC in the context of trauma healing, some NGOs, such as the Institute for Healing of Memories, have taken up the task by organizing workshops aimed at healing affected individuals, churches and communities. In addition, they also helped people to forgive one another, reconcile and build peace. This research examines the impact of Healing of Memories workshops carried out in Durban some years ago. The participants reported significant progress towards trauma healing and reconciliation.

Abstract:
Mentally retarded children, teenagers and adults form a specific, one of the most numerous, group among handicapped people. Mental retardation is a mental impairment characterised by subaverage intelectual functioning, different development of psychic qualities and limitations in adaptive behaviour. It is usually caused by an organic brain damage. The retardation is not a disease, it´s a long-life handicap. The findings of the research has shown that persons with a mild mental retardation hardly ever find a job in the open labour market or in the sheltered workshops. However, the employers are not also concerned in providing these people with a job.

Abstract:
Taking care of people with disabilities is dated back to history. Nowadays there are many ways how to take care, socialize and integrate people with special needs. For people with some handicap there are number of fences at the same time, which are impossible to break through without help of the other people. We can also find out that people with disabilities are exposed to some kinds of discrimination. The most severe fence for those people is that they have got nearly closed access to the labour market. People with disabilities belong in disadvantaged groups at the labour market and they are suffering from long-term unemployment. Sheltered workshops are one way how to integrate those people. People with health problems and with changed working ability work there. Working in the sheltered workshops isn{\crq}t only earning money. It is also a place where especially the disabled people can become members of society and can gain new experience. I tried to find out similarities and differences in running of chosen sheltered workshops. Based on my stay in Massachusetts, USA I chose to concentrate on describing non-government, non-profit organization called Road to Responsibility, Inc. In the Czech Republic I chose for the same purpose Domov sv. Anežky, o.p.s. in Týn nad Vltavou. In theoretical part of thesis, I concentrate on the problems of disability. I am describing history of care of people with disabilities, the types of disability, socialization and last, but not least jobs opportunities and self{--}fulfillment of peoplewith disabilities. The practical section of thesis is divided into two parts. In part one I am describing running of the chosen companies and their sheltered workshops and in part two I am graphically displaying found information. I chose to do research two different ways. The first one was secondary data analysis and content analysis. I also collected information from interviews, in which I talked to employees and managers of the workshops. Before I started collecting data I chose what information I want to find out, what documents I want to study so I will get the result I wanted {--} to find out the similarities and differences of the chosen workshops in USA and in Czech Republic. The information were e.g. rights and obligations of the clients, the founders of those companies, what do they offer, personal security, qualifications of employees, rates of pay for people with disabilities and last but not least what types of workshops each organization runs. Based on the information I collected, I realized, that certain differences between Road to Responsibility and Domov sv. Anežky exists. The main difference is different rates of pay for people with disability for their work. Another difference is how the rights of clients are exercise. I can declare that both my hypothesis were correct. I am convinced, that my work points out the similarities and differences, which exist in sheltered workshops in the Czech Republic and USA. But of course it is not the whole view of how the community works.

Abstract:
PEDAGOGICKÁ FAKULTA UNIVERZITY KARLOVY Abstract Education and preparation for the profession of people with mental disabilities in Teplice region 21.4.2011 Zdeněk Herman Abstrakt Despite all the problems in the Ranks of the cultural environment and the composition of the people after the unemployment I was led to believe it is not always the main factor in recruitment. Or maybe education is not the main determinant, though primarily affiliated, but the nature of personality, diligence and hard work are determinants, which are the quintessence of the employer's requirements. Sometimes such values in the family of people with mental disabilities are more problematic to implement, then the values would lead the school. The success of the equipment of the positive values depends on the quality of the school and its leadership. I knew that in Teplice there are that at least two schools are for high quality and fully prepare people with mental disabilities in practical life. However several shortcomings need to be improved. the largest work can be motivation of pupils with mental disabilities to individual decision-making, working and not being comfortable, aware of the need to work and not wanting to stay at home when they have rent. Motivation is the key factor for improving the quality of life of people.
