Opportunities for training in psychotherapy have become more extensive in Britain over the last decade or so, though the increase – as always – has been seen mainly in London and its satellites. The diversity of these training organisations, most of which are outside the mainstreams of NHS and university courses, does not make it easy for their value to be assessed in conventional terms, as well as raising problematic issues about the interface between the public and private sectors.

Abstract:
Celem artykułu jest rozważenie znaczenia dwóch tytułowych pojęć, które można znaleźć u podstaw myśli europejskiej. Nawiązując do pracy Giovanniego Reale, włoskiego historyka filozofii przełomu dwudziestego i dwudziestego pierwszego wieku, autor dokonuje próby rekonstrukcji greckiej refleksji o przemianie duchowej. Zaczynając od Odysei Homera i wybranych dzieł Platona, dokonana zostaje prezentacja „drugiego żeglowania”. W przypadku Platona szczególnie ważną rolę odgrywają Listy, wyraźnie prezentujące to pojęcie. Następnie zostaje omówiona przemiana tego pojęcia w neoplatonizmie Filona z Aleksandrii i Plotyna. Ponadto autor przypomina dwa greckie pojęcia czasu: Kronosa i Kairosa. Prowadzi to do odniesień wziętych ze współczesnej filozofii i literatury. Z jednej strony „drugie żeglowanie” nabiera nowego znaczenia w świetle koncepcji strumienia świadomości Wiliama Jamesa. Z drugiej zaś strumień świadomości został świadomie zastosowany w Ulissesie Jamesa Joyce’a do opisu sytuacji, w której nie dochodzi do „drugiego żeglowania”.

Abstract:

In the report, the author raises the problem of personal freedom, referring to the concept of metanoia by R. Laing and D. Cooper. On the basis of Laing's ideas, the understanding of freedom is conceptualized as the acquisition of a true "I" through the experience of mental illness, which was introduced into the field of philosophical comprehension. Using the example of Cooper's metanoia scheme, the transition from the state of alienation and adaptation to free self-realization as from unreasonableness to sanity is considered. The author raises the question about the criteria of norm and pathology in the course of realization of personal freedom. The urgency of the further development of Laing's and Cooper's ideas in the aspect of the possibility of implementing existential metanoia in the modern socio-cultural context is substantiated.

Abstract Comparative analysis of metanoia not only as a psychological but a broader spiritual concept versus the paranoid existential position with the accent on the projection as a primitive defence mechanism. These phenomena were studied from phenomenological, psychodynamic, and theological points of view. The theory of personality of Christian psychotherapy and Transactional Analysis concepts are applied. The ego as a psychological apparatus limits human behaviour and actions by constant activation of defence mechanisms that often lead to psychopathology. In Christian psychotherapy metanoia as the desired level is a state of deep spiritual transformation opposite of the distorted psychological conditions.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the ancient concept of ‘metanoia’ in the religious and philosophical tradition, carries out a historical and philosophical reconstruction of the term. The author considers the concept of ‘metanoia’ in the context of the problem of the relationship between mind and body. Tracing the transformation of the concept, coming from Aristotle, the author of the article shows that the Eastern religious tradition understands repentance as the integration of the divine mind, which exists separately, into the human body and the beginning of its existence according to new laws. Western scholasticism, following Aristotle, separates the active divine and passive human minds, but denies their union in the body, endowing repentance with a supra-individual meaning, interpreting it as a kind of turn towards the Divine light that occurs outside the physical body and is not the result of a genuine experience of union with Christ. The author considers understanding of the concept of ‘metanoia’ by such theologians as Gregory Palamas, Clement of Alexandria, Thomas Aquinas. It is concluded that the problem of the bodily localization of the mind, the essence of the mind, is closely related to the problem of repentance and the historical transformation of the concept of ‘metanoia’.

Abstract:
In this article the subject of metanoia was presented and the joy from converted sinner in the teaching of Origen in the context of parable „the lost sheep” according the Gospel of St. Luke in chapter 15. At the foundation of the Origen’s analysis there were the problems of salvation history and eschatology connected with the apocatastatis hypothesis. The return of the primitive community will be the source of perfect joy both for the fallen human-beings (because of their sins) and for those who persisted in God’s love. Metanoia is the process connected with beneficial intervention of God in the human history. The first stage of metanoia, by which there is the absolvation of sins, is the sacrifice which Jesus Christ offered on the cross. Man receiving God’s love should turn his attention towards God once again, recompense for his sins and give the holy fruits of convertion. The process of metanoia is not only closed during the life in this world but is still going on after our death.

Abstract:
Drawing on the evolution of our thinking around expedited learning and more egalitarian classroom spaces where learners are afforded greater agency and opportunities to tap into their full linguistic repertoires (Todeva & Morule, 2009; Todeva, 2016) and on insights from complex dynamic systems theory, this paper offers a framework for dynamically aligning research on multimodality and plurilingualism with inquiry-based classroom practice. We argue that despite the existence of important research shedding light on the processes underlying our meaning-making and communicative abilities, languages continue to be taught as bounded entities and many instructional and assessment practices still reflect monolingual ideologies and nativespeakerist mindsets. Adopting a plurilingual, multimodal mindset provides a way for teachers, students, and researchers to bring their practices in line with the increasingly complex manner in which people construct, share, and access knowledge. How to achieve this metanoia— this shift of mind towards linguistic and modal plurality—is the main thrust of this paper. We provide concrete examples of classroom plurilingual explorations and an emic narrative of one teacher’s journey. Finally, we call for transformed research practices grounded in retrodiction (Larsen-Freeman, 2009) and for more nimble multimodal knowledge dissemination to support this realignment.

Abstract:

Climate Crisis and Metanoia. Mystical Aspects of Contemporary Nature Writing The aim of this article is to provide a synthesizing overview of religious references appearing in contemporary nature writing and in discourses dealing with the issue of the climate change. The author emphasizes the importance and scale of those references, pointing to the lack of theoretical tools – not developed by “divergent”ecocritical and post-secular theories – that could be used to characterize this phenomenon. Focusing on the descriptions of mystical experiences represented in contemporary nature writing, the author refers to the psychology of religion and neurotheology to show the actual potential of religious paradigm of spiritual and mental transformation (metanoia) in the context of climate change.

Abstract:
Crucial in Pierre Hadot’s account of ancient philosophy as a way of life is the phenomenon of conversion. Well before he encountered some of the decisive influences upon his understanding of philosophy, Hadot already understood ancient philosophy and its long legacy in later thinkers of the West as much more than a formal discourse. Philosophy is an experience, or at least the exploration and articulation of a potential for experience. The energy of this potential originates in a polar tension between epistrophe (return) and metanoia (rebirth). The two poles, which are grounded in primal experiences of the living organism, motivate and model the conversion which must be lived by the philosopher. The genius of Western philosophical experience lies in the effort to synthesize return and rebirth, and thereby recover the self as an ontological point of identification with and origin of the cosmos.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this study, I analyze the 2013 performance of Metanoia Artopédia, Ice Doctrines. Variations on Nazi Rhetoric in the context of the history of the Hungarian independent theater group. Using Judith Butler’s thoughts on hate speech and Gilles Deleuze’s minor/major use of language, I try to show that the shift to “major” forms and topics (the power of representation and the representation of power) from an Artaud-ian “minor” theatre does not mean a radical change in the group’s history, and the theater of “kings and princes” gets necessarily deconstructed on the stage of Metanoia. After 20 years of owning a minor perspective – the world of the “saint idiots” – the group takes the perpetrator’s point of view and stages the Lingua Tertii Imperii (the language of the Third Reich). Still, Ice Doctrines remains “minor” as it finds the “lines of escape” within representation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The process of repentance cannot be a human effort to achieve salvation considering the relationship between the kingdom of God and the Christian and ecclesiastical testimony of faith, hope and love. Rather, it is made possible by the undeserved offer of salvation from God’s reign, which Christians and the faith communities can experience in the world through the lived testimony of faith, hope and love. The promotion of Christian action in the world, which in its individual and social dimensions has to be shaped more intensively than before, can create a climate of action in which the effort and constant renewal of human life are the prerequisites for progress of the metanoia process. Conveying understanding of the world from the gift of faith, offering future perspectives of the world from the power of hope and realizing the unity of the world in the testimony of love are elements that open up opportunities for social metanoia.

Abstract:
Introduction. In connection with the acquisition of the status of science by theology, the question arises how to update the internal sources of motivation of the theologian-researcher for scientific activity. One of the motivating factors is the consideration of research activities as a special kind of worship, which consists in an inner aspiration to know the God by approaching the comprehension of ultimate meanings. In this case, research activity is regarded as sacred, which undoubtedly gives the theologian a special impetus to action. Theoretical analysis. The analysis of the philosophical and hermeneutical traditions of Christianity and Islam, studies of philosophers and psychologists, as well as the ideas of traditional philosophers, allows us to conclude that metanoia as a change of mind that shifts the point of view beyond the usual meanings contributes to looking at the world through the prism of the sacred, favoring the return of the sacred into everyday life. Conclusion. Metanoia, which occurs in the course of research activities, is considered as a process of a kind of rebirth of the theologian, opening access to his hidden psychic energy, carrying out a “turn of consciousness” towards the comprehension of sacred truths. The research activity of a theologian is a special kind of scientific creativity, based on the highest metaphysical principles, aimed at restoring and maintaining contact with a living religious tradition through the transmission of primordial traditional values.
