Full textBiperiodic structures are materials having selectivity properties in frequency, polarization and incidence direction. These structures are periodic arrangements of dielectric and metallic parts. The insertion of active components leads to interesting flexible structures, whose frequency selectivity can be electronically adjusted. Wo modelling methods based on the finite elements method using edge elements are developed. The first one permits the study of infinite biperiodic structures, and presents the numerical advantage to restrict the simulated volume to a single cell. The second one is suited to the modelling of biperiodic structures that are finite in one periodicity direction. This method permits us to show and evaluate the influence of the edge effects due to the finiteness. Owever, only finite structures of a small number of periods can be simulated in this way. Physical structures generally composed of several tens of periods are too large to be studied by this approach. Therefore, a third method is developed. We notice that the approximation of the infinite structure is reasonable for elements far out the edges. Therefore our method of modelling infinite arrays is used to determine the fields round central elements, whereas the fields at the edges are given by modelling a small array. Ur modelling methods are used to show the effect of the finiteness on the frequency and angular characteristics of a reflector, and the advantage of taking the finiteness into account. He insertion of an active element, a diode PIN, is taken into account rigorously in the simulation, in order to simulate electrically adjustable structures. Dielectric structure with periodic metallization is simulated, fabricated and measured. A good agreement between simulation and measurements validates our approach. Using our simulation tool, an infrared photodetector is studied and optimised

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the numerical analysis and simulation by finite element of asymptotic decomposition problems. These are partial differential equation problems, an information about the behaviour of the solutions on a part of the domain is available. This information is used in order to improve the efficiency of numerical methods and is accounted for through the basis functions of the finite element method. It generates particular basis functions : "super-element functions". In a first and very short chapter, we introduce the MAPDD, Method of Asymptotic Partial Domain Decomposition. In a second and thord chapter, one apply and justify \textit{via} asymptotic expansion this strategy for a monodimensionnal singular perturbation problem arising in the shell theory and for Poisson equation on a thin domain. We propose a efficient finite element method which save numerous nodes. Optimal error estimates are given, the same order is obtain with a classical finite element method. In a fourth chapter, one interests in coupling piecewise monodimensionnal and bidimensionnal problems for Poisson equation. One disconnects the domains and glu then by the way of a Lagrange multiplier in a saddle-point problem. Error estimates are given for the finite element approximation of this problem. We show that this approache generalizes the method by "super-element". In a fifth prospective chapter, we deal with the numerical treatment of two problem of the litterature. An adhesive joint, and a transport problem in a least square formulation. We propose a 2D-1D modelisation

Full textInverted finite element method (IFEM) is a non runcature method which was introduced for solving partial differential equations in unbounded domains. The objective of this thesis is to analyze, to adapt and to implement IFEM for solving several problems arising in physics, especially when the domain is the whole space R3. We first give a presentation in which we detail the principles and the main features of the method. Then, we adapt IFEM for solving some div-curl systems and vector potential problems in the whole space. In a second part, we successfully develop an IFEM based approach for computing the stray-field energy in micromagnetism. In the last part, we are interested in the study of the polarizable continuum model arising in quantum chemistry. The manuscript contains a large number of numerical results obtained with some 3D codes, especially when the domain is the whole space R3. It also contains some theoretical results in relation with weighted Sobolev spaces. We give in particular a constructive proof of some div-curl inequalities in unbounded domains

Full textModelling the brain electrical activity in humans allows one to localise the neuronal structures involved in response to sensory stimulations or during cognitive tasks. In first approximation, the active neurons sets are modelized by equivalent current dipoles. The geometries of the anatomie structures must fit as well as possible those of a real head. The finite elements method is a numerical technique wich allows one to solve the Poisson equation (which is the physical equation of the problem) in an unhomogenous and anisotropic medium with a realistic geometry. The validity of the method is first tested in comparison with the classical multi-layer spherical model. The correct results obtained allow us to study the influence of different physical parameters (number of layers, anisotropy of the skull) and gèometrical aspects such as local thinnings of the skull, hole in the skull (occipital hole) and non-spherical realistic head models. In comparison with the spherical case, all these factors produce important effects on the potential distributions

Full textTo answer an increasing need for glass product manufacturing in both small and medium series, the first glass-blower robot was recently developed. In the face of this new technology, which particularly interests crystal glass-makers, expertise remains the main decision making element whic intervenes in the choices of the design and implementation of these new processes. Finite elements methods of this new blowing process were developed. After the analysis of the process and of theses stages, an initial sensibility study allowed to find the essential parameters for the success of the operation. Two characterization tests were also developed in situ in order to identify, by inverse method, the exchange coefficient by convection with the ambient air and the viscosity law function of the temperature. For the first test, the surface temperature calculated with a finite differences model is compared with analyses made by pyrometer in a point of a glass ingot in rotation. For the second, the elongation calculated with a thermomechanical finite elements models is compared with the elongation of a glass mass measured on a video recording. With the results of these identifications, an optimiser was developed to adjust virtually the forming parameters. A second optimization allowed to determine the initial shape of the parison, an essential parameter in the successful forming of a convex cylindrical vase. Finally, the numerical tools are validated during trial campains carried out in crystal glass-makers Val Saint Lambert (Belgium) and Rogaska (Slovenia)

Full textThe rehabilitation material which remplaces the loss of a dental organ substance must participate to a physical-mechanic stress distribution of the combinaison to which it pertains. When the use of the tooth is too important, the coronal rehabilitation often has to get a post, support of the rehabilitation material. The elastic modulus of the coronal and radicular dentins shows the possibility of those structures to absorb the occlusal pressures. For long, the researches have been more oriented on the solidity of the post and its anchor in the root than, the protection of the bearing dental structures. More important, than debate over the form and size of post, the choice relating to its nature is of prime necessity. The target of this thesis is to decrease the stress distribution of Coronoradicular rehabilitation by a finite element study. From a three dimensional numerical model, where crown, rehabilitation material, post, cement material and periodontal ligament has been shown, we have varied some parameters as the material of post (NiCr, titanium, gold, carbon fiber reinforced by epoxy resin, volume of the carbon fibers (50%, 60%, 80%), post carbon covered of quartz), the post length, the glue nature, the rehabilitation material the contact point, etc… The thermal analysis has also been done. The study has been used to the stress distribution of a bridge sitting on a one or two restored teeth

Full textIn order to answer the absence of complete and realistic data on behalf of the industry, the knowledge of the behaviour of MnZn ferrite's which equip the cores of the components high frequency clearly progressed thanks to the contribution of a new method of characterisation of magnetic materials. Contrary to the standardised methods, this method, based to the measure oftwo complementary electric impedance, makes it possible to reach, at any frequency, the data permeability and permittivity complexes by means of simple analytical relations. With regard to the formulations by finite elements, the general formulations in 3D were rewritten with complex physical properties, using two types of potential: electric and magnetic potential. The two-dimensional cartesian and axe-symmetric hypotheses are also used. The coupling with the equations of the electric circuit of feeding is carried out by the method of the electric potentials integrated in time. This method generally used in 3D is adapted for the problems 2D. The problems of the stray capacities related to the effects of the electric interactions in high frequency are also presented. For modelling at raised frequencies, the influence of the magnetic field on the operation of the component is not negligible any more. A magnetic model becomes necessary in order to take account of the inductance of a component. Several recent studies on the effects of the electric magnetic interactions in high frequency are shown. Each method has like characteristic the need for the approximations, in the majority of the geometrical cases, compared to the problem which is primarily three-dimensional. A modelling by the finite element method using the axe-symmetric formulation coupled with the equations of electric circuit is proposed and adapted for an electromagnetic characterisation of the wound components

Full textIn this thesis, we study some flows characterized by a low Mach number. In a first part, we develop a numerical scheme allowing the resolution of the Navier-Stokes equations in the low Mach number approximation. The continuityequation is solved by a finite volume method, while the momentum and temperature equations are solved by finite elements. The scheme ensures the preservation of constant states. In a second part, we analyze a specific low Mach type model, in which the thermodynamic pressure is considered constant, and the viscosity is a particular function of the temperature. We show the existence, the uniqueness and the regularity of the solutions, as well as a maximum principle result for the temperature. Finally, in a third part, we develop a numerical scheme to simulate the equations of this model. Emphasis is placed on the discretization of the temperature equation, which is of finite volume type. Several schemes are studied and compared on criteria of precision and respect of the maximum principle. The momentum equation is discretized by finite elements, defining a new combined scheme

Full textTime discretization of constitutive equations used in civil engineering leads frequently to numerical problems in finite element modelling. And indeed, serious numerical problems may arise from an unsuitable time-integration of such constitutive equation leading usually to a Jack of stability and high costs of computation time infinite element simulations. We focus our attention on the time discretization of three different constitutive equations : a non linear viscoelastic model describing the behaviour of bitumen, an hypoplastic mode! developed for granular materials such as sand and a thermo-viscoplastic model developed for bituminous concrete. The integration of such constitutive equations, which are stiff Ordinary Differential Equations, leads usually to a Jack of stability which compels engineers to use small steps or implicit schemes of integration (besides, most of them are low order accurate). We build three new methods of time discretization in finite element modelling. These methods appear to be quite general. In our study, we use them in the field of FEM in geomechanics in order to carry out the time discretization of the constitutive equations considered and to build the variational formulations. Analytical and numerical solutions for linear and non-linear problems in geomechanics are computed, they show the good stability and accuracy properties of the method proposed compared to other existing time discretization methods. Moreover, a very cheap strategy of step-size control is described, leading to an important decrease of computation time

Full textFor the last twenty years, finite element model updating has drawn researcher's attention a lot, especially in the aeronautical and automotive industries. Many techniques have been proposed, but they were strongly limited by the available experimental data. The development of high performance acquisition systems, allowing an accurate and wide investigation of structure behaviour, revives interest in this subject. This study deals with holographic and thermoelastic measurement techniques. - that respectively provide an unidirectionnal mesure of the mode shape and the experimental dilatation field on several hundreds and even thousands points - to update turbine blades for SNECMA. One of the original aspect of this work is the use of thermoelastic data which allows us to improve the model predictivity against stress data. At first, we have developed techniques to project the different kinds of measure on the finite element model. After this projection step, measured data are available as degree of freedom on the model, and the difference with the predicted behaviour can be easily evaluated. The selected updating scheme is based on an iterative selection and correction of erroneous parameters, which has the advantage of preserving the physical meaning of the model. The selection of the parameters is done thanks a modelling error location in which measurement errors are taken into account by an inequality constrain on experimental data. Wehave especially developed a new resolution technique based on an iteractive linearization of the distance between measured and computed data, which simplifies the resolution of this constrained minimization problem. Furthermore to improve the modelling error location we have introduced a correlation between modal error location indicators. Erroneous parameters are finally corrected by the optmization of a cost function involving all experimental data
