Full textThe work reported in this thesis consists in a discrete modelling of the backward front propagation of an erosion pipe, as can take place in embankment dams or dikes. Some numerical tools have been developed to this end, based on the coupling between the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) for the representation of the solid and uid phases, respectively. The implementation of DEM follows a standard molecular dynamics approach and the interaction among grains are regulated by unilteral frictional visco-elastic and breakable visco-elastic bonds, in order to take into account a slightly cohesive soil behaviour. The LBM was implemented according to the Multiple Relaxation Time (MRT) scheme along with an interpolated non-slip conditions for moving boundaries, in order to improve the numerical stability of the calculations. The coupling scheme is described along with the criteria for the numerical parameters of the two methods. A representative specimen of a granular soil located at the front of an erosion pipe is first assembled by a \dry" preparation precedure and then tested under fully-saturated conditions and increasing hydraulic load over time. Backward erosion is takes place in the form of clusters of grain being eroded at the erosion front after a degradation of the material due to the breakage of tensile bonds. The other interesting feature that was observed is the creation of arches of compressive force chains. These arches enabled the specimen to maintain a stable or metastable configuration under the increasing hydraulic load

Full textIn avionics engineering, integration tests are crucials: they allow to ensure the right behavior of an airplane before his first flight, they are needed to the certification process and they allow non-regression testing for each new version of a system, of a software or of a hardware. The design of an integration test is expensive because it involves the implementation of the procedure, the configuration of tools of the bench and the setup of the interfaces of the system under test. With procedure written in natural language, the interpretation of statements of a test during the manual execution can lead to mistakes that are expensive to fix due to accurate actions needed to perform a statement. The formalization and the automation of those procedures allow testers team to focus on the implementation of new test cases. First of all, we introduce Domain Specific Language (DSL) and show how we use it to formalize tests procedures dedicated to a kind of system. Those languages should be able to be use by avionic testers which do not necessarily have programming skills. They allow test automation, while maintaining test intention in the test description. Then, we proposed a BDD (Behavior Driven Development) approach to validate the integration of systems thanks to behavioral scenarios describing the expected behavior of the airplane. Our contribution is a framework which orchestrate DSLs dedicated to integration test of avionic systems in an Agile vision. We named Domain Specific Test Languages (DSTL), languages used by expert testers. For each system (ATA ou Air Transport Association of America) corresponds a DSTL business. A first DSTL about the validation of airflow control systems has been developed as a proof of concept from existing procedures pseudo-formalized. The experimentation has been continued with IMA (Integrated Modular Avionic) calculators for which test procedures are written in natural language and thus are not automatable. From a corpus of procedures, we propose a first empirical process to identify sentence patterns composing the DSTL. The corpus provided is composed by ten procedures totaling 108 test chapters and 252 tests or subtests involving 3708 statements for a total of 250 Word pages. Make Agile integration tests in this context consist to propose a collaborative approach to formalize a DSTL and to integrate it in the orchestration framework to generate automatically the glu code

Full textThe renal insufficiency is a chronic disease, which, reached certain stage requires to the patient who is affected, to resort to a treatment of substitution allowing to mitigate the failures of the function of the kidney. One of these techniques, the hemodialysis, includes three important stages in the route of the sick person: the announcement of the disease, the creation of a vascular access, the passage in the treatment. The announcement of the renal insufficiency often takes place some years before the intervention of the artério-venous fistula and thus good upstream to the stake in dialysis. A longitudinal study would have allowed to proceed to the complete follow-up of the renal insufficient person from the discovery of the disease but the constraints of time drove me to limit me to the effects afterward of the announcement and to concentrate on the echoes of the trauma at the time of the first burglary (creation of the artério-venous fistula) and of second burglary (the stake in dialysis). Towards the psychoanalytical theories of the trauma, I tried to bring to light the impact of the physical burglaries on the psychosomatic unity of the person affected by renal insufficiency which differs from that of the psychic burglary of the trauma excluding a physical wound. I took back the hypothesis of Freud concerning the war neurosises which stipulates that the physical achievement protects from the traumatic neurosis, but I suggested modifying the content of its comments by adapting them to the situation of serious illness. Consequently, the aim of this research is to study the cours) of insufficient renal in three time traumatic of the disease in its at once psychic and somatic dimensions. To feel my hypotheses, a clinical consultation is proposed during the first interview, then projective tests (TAT and Rorschach) accompanied with a clinical consultation are proposed during the second meeting. My population consists of eight patients from 22 to 60 years old that I met first time during the creation of the fistula venous artério, one moment in the course of which I was able to raise that the announcement of the renal insufficiency had not played the role of an anxiety alarm in the psychic economy. Because indeed, upon the arrival of this new foreign body, an impulsive overflowing appears updating a fantastical of traumatic chap. The second phase is situated at the beginning of the sessions of dialysis when the sensoriality and the sensations are put in the service of a "somato-psychic distress " a feeling of disturbing strangeness and a difficulty of demarcation of the physical borders. On one hand, the individual analysis of the results reveals that the preventive value of the announcement of the disease some years before the intervention was decreased by the violence of the physical burglaries. On the other hand, the analysis of the general tendencies brought to light an embrittlement of the narcissistic investment and the objectals marks at three levels: sensory, sensual, of the representation. Several answers or couples of answers in front of the traumatic event which can belong in regredient and\or progredient dimensions joining a singular story and expressing himself through a psychic functioning appropriatefor each, were able to be brought out as: the inhibition of the thought, the rationalization and the intellectualization, the masochism (mortiferous or guard of life), the denial and the not structural split(cleavage) of the Me, the neurotic operating processes, the solutions ( emotional repression) and the unsuitable solutions. Finally, the examination of the psychic functioning in the projective tests does not allow to establish of direct link between the mental organization and the potentialities of reorganization further to the impact of the trauma understanding a physical achievement

Full textIntroduction: Based on prolonged preservation of perishable food products under modified atmosphere, we developed an innovative method to preserve kidneys during transplantation using nobles gases. We evaluated the protective effect of argon and xenon on preserving kidney graft functionality and integrity in a clinically relevant pig model of transplantation. Methods: The left kidneys of pigs (n=6 per group) were removed, flushed and stored for 30 h in Celsior solution saturated with air, nitrogen, 100% argon, or 100% xenon. Next, autotransplantation and controlateral nephrectomy were performed. The survival rate, renal function, Hsp27, thiobarbituric acid (TBARS), reduced ascorbic acid (RAA), and TNF alpha were analyzed. A histological examination was completed. Results: Argon improved survival (83.3% for argon vs 33.3% for air, p=0.04) and transplant function recovery. All pigs in the nitrogen and the xenon group died. Diuresis recovery occurred earlier in the argon group (n= 5) when compared with the air group (n=2), p=0.05. On day 7 argon transplants had lower serum creatinine levels and a large reduction in primary non function than the air group. Argon-treated tissues showed better cell structural integrity with minor signs of inflammation, fibrosis, and tubular atrophy. The argon group showed significantly higher RAA/TBARS ratios and Hsp27 levels. Conclusion: We demonstrated that modified atmosphere preservation packaging with argon in cold-storage solution improved early transplant function recovery and long-term quality by minimizing IRI in a pig model of prolonged cold-ischemia. The renoprotective effect of argon may involve the Hsp27 pathway

Little is known of the career of composer and pianist Émiliano Renaud (1875-1932). Called the “Canadian Paderewski”, Renaud is the first Quebec virtuoso to have set up, as his Polish master, new standards in recitals, at a time when concerts mainly offered programs made of a mixture of excerpts rarely played by a single interpreter. Émiliano Renaud is also the first musician to have used the new technology of the radio for pedagogical purposes, as well as one of the few composers of the time to have had his works edited in the United States. Trained in Vienna and Berlin by renowned masters, he first pursued a teaching career at Indianapolis Music School before moving to New York for a few years, where he created a piano learning method. He moved permanently to Montreal in 1921 and was involved in numerous musical activities: giving recitals, composing, teaching and editing. This study, the first on the subject, traces the landmarks of Renaud’s career as a virtuoso at the beginning of the twentieth century. It offers a broad cultural and musical frame through which to assess the artist’s achievements. One of the main aims of this research is to rehabilitate Émiliano Renaud, undeservedly cast into oblivion after his death. This rehabilitation is all the more necessary as Renaud contributed, in his own way, to developing Quebec’s musical life. In a related way, this study also tackles the issue of the reception of the phenomenon of virtuosity by the critics at that period. Annexes provide benchmarks, including a chronology, a list of the musician’s repertoire, and an inventory of his works.
