Abstract:
The scope of this thesis is the investigation of the nature and purpose of Christian worship with specific reference to its development in the Southern Congo United Methodist Church. The study combines three main sources of information - namely, the study of key theological concepts (chapter 3), the Holy Bible (chapter 4), and the investigation by questionnaires (chapter 6) - in order to address the issue of improving the worship and Christian life style for the contemporary Christian church within the Congolese context. Van, de Laar John William. "A theological exploration of the role and use of music for worship in the Methodist Church of Southern Africa." Diss., 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/16248.

Full text
Abstract:
A theology of Church music for worship has been conspicuous by its absence. The need is clearly demonstrated in this thesis, as is the methodology to develop this theology. The Biblical record of musical usage shows that theological principles can be uncovered to guide theuse of music today. The same process can be applied to the use of music for worship in church history. In order for these principles to have practical application, the challenges facing the Methodist of Southern Africa today are examined. Finally, a theology of Worship Music is developed under three headings. The first,

Abstract:
This thesis examines the practice of the camp meeting as a significant factor in the growth of the Methodist Episcopal Church in nineteenth-century New England. Such a comprehensive investigation into camp meetings in New England has never been done before. Also, with the exception of one book and one other recent dissertation, the general history of Methodism in New England is a topic that was overlooked for nearly a century. This research helps to fill those gaps. Many scholars give credit to camp meetings for fostering conversion, though the focus has generally been on camps held in the

Abstract:
This qualitatively oriented Practical Theology research project was based on a narrative inquiry into the spiritualities of six gay women who are related to Northfield Methodist Church, which is situated in Benoni, Gauteng. These conversations occurred within a small group context, and were aimed at co-authoring preferred ways of being both gay and Christian. Toward the end of the research journey, I asked each participant to prepare a written text that would summarise their experience of being simultaneously gay and Christian, so that by hearing their own stories of their journey, they would
