Abstract:
Permeable reactive barrier (PRB) technology is increasingly considered for in situ treatment of contaminated groundwater; however, current design formulas for PRBs are limited and do not properly account for all major physical and attenuation processes driving remediation. This study focused on developing a simple methodology to design PRBs that is easy to implement while improving accuracy and being more conservative than the available design methodologies. An empirical design equation and a simple analytical design equation were obtained to calculate the thickness of a PRB capable of degrad

Abstract:
Latinas are at risk for not engaging in optimal exercise and are at greater risk than other ethnic groups for being overweight and suffering deleterious health consequences. The current study’s researcher utilizes pedometers, exercise logs, surveys, and participatory photography to determine exercise motivators and barriers to exercise among Latinas. The specific aims of the presented research were to identify predictors of exercise, to investigate the relationship between motivation types, self-determination and acculturation among Latinas, and employ participatory photography methodology to

Abstract:
The purpose of the correlational study was to determine factors that served as barriers to integrative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (iSTEM) implementation in K-12 schools. The sample studied (N = 153) was drawn from classroom teachers and administrators with training in iSTEM methodology or experience in iSTEM methods and subsequent experience regarding implementation barriers. The researcher developed the Integrative STEM Implementation Barriers Instrument (iSTEMIBI). The iSTEMIBI included a six-point Likert scale measuring levels of agreement to statements regarding imple

Šiandienos pedagogui keliamas labai svarbus uždavinys - sukurti tokį mokymosi procesą, kuris skatintų moksleivių mokymąsi. Europos Sąjungos dokumentuose akcentuojamos perėjimo į mokymąsi visą gyvenimą galimybes laiduojančios kompetencijos, svarbiausia pripažįstama - mokėjimo mokytis kompetencija. Pastarųjų metų tyrimai rodo, jog besimokantieji mokymosi mokytis kompetencijos stokoja. Darbo tikslas: Ištirti Utenos vyresniojo mokyklinio amžiaus mokinių mokėjimo mokytis kompetencijos tobulinimo veiksnius. Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Abstract:
Reverse engineering - defined as extracting information about a product from the product itself - is a design tactic commonly used in industry from competitive benchmarking to product imitation. While reverse engineering is a legitimate practice - as long as the product was legally obtained - innovative products are often reverse engineered at the expense of the pioneering company. However, by designing products with built-in barriers to reverse engineering, competitors are no longer able to effectively extract critical information from the product of interest. The focus of this paper is on cross-region R&D collaboration funded by the 5th EU Framework Programme (FP5). The objective is to measure distance, institutional, language and technological barrier effects that may hamper collaborative activities between European regions. Particular emphasis is laid on measuring discrepancies between two types of collaborative R&D activities, those generating output in terms of scientific publications and those that do not. The study area is composed of 255 NUTS-2 regions that cover the pre-2007 member states of the European Union (excluding Malta and Cyprus)
