Numerical methods form an important part of the pricing of financial derivatives and especially in cases where there is no closed form analytical formula. We begin our work with an introduction of the mathematical tools needed in the pricing of financial derivatives. Then, we discuss the assumption of the log-normal returns on stock prices and the stochastic differential equations. Purpose Monoamine oxidase (MAO) consists of two isoforms, namely MAO-A and MAO-B. Both these isoforms are involved in the oxidation of dopamine. In Parkinson’s disease (PD) therapy, the inhibition of the oxidation of dopamine by MAO may elevate the levels of dopamine in the brain and prevent the generation of toxic by-products such as hydrogen peroxide. Three- and four-derivative k-step Hermite-Birkhoff-Obrechkoff (HBO) methods are constructed for solving stiff systems of first-order differential equations of the form y'= f(t,y), y(t0) = y0. These methods use higher derivatives of the solution y as in Obrechkoff methods. We compute their regions of absolute stability and show the three- and four-derivative HBO are A( 𝜶)-stable with 𝜶 > 71 ° and 𝜶 > 78 ° respectively. We conduct numerical tests and show that our new methods are more efficient than several existing well-known methods.

Abstract:

In this thesis a new approach for solving a certain class of anomalous diffusion equations was developed. The theory and algorithms arising from this work will pave the way for more efficient and more accurate solutions of these equations, with applications to science, health and industry. The method of finite volumes was applied to discretise the spatial derivatives, and this was shown to outperform existing methods in several key respects. The stability and convergence of the new method were rigorously established.

A mathematical model for the determination of the aerodynamic forces acting on an aircraft is presented. The mathematical model is based on the generalization of the idea of aerodynamically steady motions. One important use of these results is the determination of steady (time-invariant) aerodynamic forces and moments. Such aerodynamic forces can be determined using computer simulation by determining numerically the associated steady flows around the aircraft when it is moving along such generalized steady trajectories.
