Abstract:
Migrant health workers (MHWs) and migrant health volunteers (MHVs) are key health workforce actors who play a substantial role in improving the health of migrants in Thailand. The objective of this study was to explore the factors associated with health literacy in MHWs and MHVs in Thailand. A self-administered questionnaire was conducted from December 2018 to April 2019 in two migrant-populated provinces. A total of 40 MHWs, 78 MHVs, and 116 general migrants were included in the survey. Results showed that a higher education level was associated with a greater health literacy score. MHWs were more likely to have a higher health literacy score (5.59 points difference) than general migrants. The province per se and type of affiliations did not significantly contribute to the difference in the health literacy score of each individual. Most MHWs received health information from health professionals, health staff, and the internet, while MHVs and general migrants received information from health professionals, MHWs/MHVs, family/friends, and posters/leaflets. This study suggests that a higher education level should be used as a criterion for recruitment of MHWs and MHVs. Access to interactive health information like health professionals should be promoted as the main source of information to ensure better health literacy among MHWs and MHVs.

Abstract:
Global warming is increasing the frequency, duration and intensity of extreme events such as marine heat waves (MHWs). The effects of MHWs include a variety of negative environmental impacts. Extreme weather events can interact with other environmental stressors such as invasion by marine non-indigenous species (NIS). The aim of this study was to (1) compare the responses of fouling assemblages recruited within a harbour (highly invaded) with the responses of those recruited in natural habitats (not invaded) to simulated MHWs of different temperatures and durations, and (2) evaluate the legacy effects of those MHWs on the invasibility of both types of assemblage by deploying them in a marina environment (high NIS propagule pressure). Experimental assemblages were sampled after 5 or 10 d of exposure to 1 of 3 different temperature conditions to examine the effects of varying MHW conditions. Later those assemblages were deployed inside a marina facility to test the invasibility of heat-stressed assemblages. The results revealed that higher temperatures and longer MHWs had an overall negative impact on both native and non-indigenous assemblages. Shorter MHWs had greater effects on assemblages dominated by NIS, while longer MHWs affected native species more. Increasing MHW duration promoted increased variability in the resulting invasive assemblages. Winner and loser species and homogenisation could potentially alter the legacy effects of MHWs on the pattern of NIS recruitment. This study highlights the importance of interactions between environmental stressors to the conservation of coastal communities, crucial ecosystems on oceanic islands.

Abstract:
Marine heatwaves (MHWs)—periods of extremely high ocean temperatures in specific regions—have occurred in all of Earth’s ocean basins over the past two decades, with severe negative impacts on marine organisms and ecosystems. However, for most individual MHWs, it is unclear to what extent they have been altered by human-induced climate change. We show that the occurrence probabilities of the duration, intensity, and cumulative intensity of most documented, large, and impactful MHWs have increased more than 20-fold as a result of anthropogenic climate change. MHWs that occurred only once every hundreds to thousands of years in the preindustrial climate are projected to become decadal to centennial events under 1.5°C warming conditions and annual to decadal events under 3°C warming conditions. Thus, ambitious climate targets are indispensable to reduce the risks of substantial MHW impacts.

Abstract:
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) can cause devastating impacts on marine life. The frequency of MHWs, gauged with respect to historical temperatures, is expected to rise significantly as the climate continues to warm. The MHWs intensity and count are pronounced with many parts of the oceans and semi enclosed seas, such as Eastern Mediterranean Sea (EMED). This paper investigates the descriptive spatial variability and trends of MHW events and their main characteristics of the EMED from 1982 to 2020 using Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data obtained from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Optimum Interpolation ([NOAA] OI SST V2.1). Over the last two decades, we find that the mean MHW frequency and duration increased by 40% and 15%, respectively. In the last decade, the shortest significant MHW mean duration is 10 days, found in the southern Aegean Sea, while it exceeds 27 days off the Israeli coast. The results demonstrate that the MHW frequency trend increased by 1.2 events per decade between 1982 and 2020, while the MHW cumulative intensity (icum) trend increased by 5.4 °C days per decade. During the study period, we discovered that the maximum significant MHW SST event was 6.35 °C above the 90th SST climatology threshold, lasted 7 days, and occurred in the year 2020. It was linked to a decrease in wind stress, an increase in air temperature, and an increase in mean sea level pressure.

Abstract:
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) have been documented around the world, causing widespread mortality of numerous benthic species on shallow reefs (less than 15 m depth). Deeper habitats are hypothesized to be a potential refuge from environmental extremes, though we have little understanding of the response of deeper benthic communities to MHWs. Here, we show how increasing depth moderates the response of seaweed- and coral-dominated benthic communities to an extreme MHW across a subtropical–temperate biogeographical transition zone. Benthic community composition and key habitat-building species were characterized across three depths (15, 25 and 40 m) before and several times after the 2011 Western Australian MHW to assess resistance during and recovery after the heatwave. We found high natural variability in benthic community composition along the biogeographic transition zone and across depths with a clear shift in the composition after the MHW in shallow (15 m) sites but a lot less in deeper communities (40 m). Most importantly, key habitat-building seaweeds such as Ecklonia radiata and Syctothalia dorycarpa which had catastrophic losses on shallow reefs, remained and were less affected in deeper communities. Evidently, deep reefs have the potential to act as a refuge during MHWs for the foundation species of shallow reefs in this region.

Abstract:
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) have caused declines in many kelp forests globally. Although the ecological effects of these climatic extremes have been well examined, studies on the role of genotypic variation in underpinning population responses under pressures are lacking. Understanding how kelps respond to different warming profiles and, in particular, intraspecific variation in responses is necessary to confidently anticipate the future of kelp forests, yet this remains a critical knowledge gap for most species. This study examined the responses of early life stages of 9 different genotypes of the Australian kelp Ecklonia radiata to different MHW profiles, where cumulative heat intensity was kept constant: control treatment (constant 19°C), heat spikes (fluctuating 19-23°C), low intensity MHW (ramp up 23°C) and high intensity MHW (ramp up 27°C). Overall, we found significant declines in E. radiata gametophyte performance in all MHW treatments and delays in sporophyte recruitment during MHW exposure. We also found significant genotype by environment (G×E) interactions, suggesting tolerance to acute thermal stress is influenced by genetic variation. Our results showed that offspring from different genotypes within the same population respond differently to MHWs, indicating that some genotypes are susceptible to MHWs while others are more resistant. While the effects on standing genetic variation and subsequent susceptibility to other stressors are unknown, our findings suggest that in addition to immediate impacts on marine organisms, natural genotypic variation in response to thermal anomalies may facilitate the gradual evolution of populations with increased thermal tolerance under future climates.

Abstract:
Marine heat waves (MHWs) can have catastrophic consequences for the socio-environmental system. Especially in the Red Sea, which has the world’s second longest coral reef system. Here, we investigate the sea surface temperature (SST) variability and trends, as well as the spatiotemporal characteristics of marine heat waves (MHWs) in the Red Sea, using high resolution daily gridded (1/20°) SST data obtained from the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) for the period 1982–2019. Results show that the average warming rate was about 0.342 ± 0.047 °C/decade over the entire Red Sea over the whole study period. The Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis reveals that the maximum variability is over the central part of the Red Sea, while the minimum variability is in the southernmost part of the Red Sea. Over the last two decades (2000–2019), we have discovered that the average MHW frequency and duration increased by 35% and 67%, respectively. The results illustrate that the MHW frequency and duration trends have increased by 1.17 counts/decade and 1.79 days/decade, respectively, over the study period. The highest annual MHW frequencies were detected in the years 2018, 2019, 2010, and 2017. A strong correlation (R = 0.89) was found between the annual MHW frequency and the annual mean SST.

Abstract:
Polychaete species composition, abundance and seasonal variation were analyzed in relation to Spartina alterniflora cover and tide level at Ponta do Arrozal, Cananéia, during 1989/1990. Two intertidal stations were located on the S. alterniflora bellt, one ca mean high water of neap tides (MHWN) and the other ca mean high water of spring tides (MHWS). Two other stations were established at corresponding tide levels at an adjacent site devoid of vegetation. A total of 17 species were collected. Each station was sampled twice seasonally with a 20 cm of diameter corer. Capitella capitata, Isolda pulchella, Nereis oligohalina and Lumbrineris sp were the most abundant species. Statistically significant differences bettween the vegetated and bare sites considered were observed for the number of species, density, diversity and evenness, with their values being higher at the vegetated site. Multivariate analysis showed spatial variations of the fauna according to vegetation cover and tide level. In relation to vegetation cover, polychaetes assemblages were distinguishable mainly by individual species densities of the more common species, since the most abundant species were present at the vegetated and bare sites. In relation to tide level, the faunal densities and number of species at the MHWN station were significantly higher than those at the MHWS station mainly at the bare site.

Abstract:
In the ocean, heat waves are vital climatic extremes that can destroy the ecosystem together with ensuing socioeconomic consequences. Marine heat waves (MHW) recently attracted public interest, as well as scientific researchers, which motivates us to analyze the current heat wave events over the Red Sea and its surrounding sea region (Gulf of Aden). First, a comprehensive evaluation of how the extreme Red Sea surface temperature has been changing is presented using 0.25° daily gridded optimum interpolation sea surface temperature (OISST, V2.1) data from 1982 to 2020. Second, an analysis of the MHW’s general behavior using four different metrics over the study area, together with a study of the role of climate variability in MHW characteristics, is presented. Finally, the main spatiotemporal characteristics of MHWs were analyzed based on three different metrics to describe MHW’s local features. Over the studied 39 years, the current results showed that the threshold of warm extreme sea surface temperature events (90th percentile) is 30.03 °C, providing an additional average thermal restriction to MHW threshold values (this value is changed from one grid to another). The current analysis discovered 28 separate MHW events over the Red+, extending from 1988 to 2020, with the four longest events being chosen as a study case for future investigation. For the effect of climate variability, our results during the chosen study cases prove that ENSO and ISMI do not play a significant role in controlling MHW characteristics (except the MHW intensity, which has a clear relation with ENSO/ISMI) on Red+. Moreover, the chlorophyll concentration decreases more significantly than its climatic values during MHW events, showing the importance of the MHW effect on biological Red Sea features. In general, the MHW intensity and duration exhibit a meridional gradient, which increases from north to south over the Red Sea, unlike the MHW frequency, which decreases meridionally.

Abstract:
With a large and increasing culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population, the Australian health care system faces challenges in the provision of accessible culturally competent health care. Communities at higher risk of chronic disease include CALD communities. Overseas, multicultural health workers (MHWs) have been increasingly integrated in the delivery of culturally relevant primary health care to CALD communities. The objective of this systematic review was to examine the effectiveness of MHW interventions in chronic disease prevention and self-management in CALD populations with the aim to inform policy development of effective health care in CALD communities in Australia. A systematic review protocol was developed and computerised searches were conducted of multiple electronic databases from 1 January 1995 until 1 November 2010. Thirty-nine studies were identified including 31 randomised controlled trials. Many of the studies focussed on poor and underserved ethnic minorities. Several studies reported significant improvements in participants’ chronic disease prevention and self-management outcomes and meta-analyses identified a positive trend associated with MHW intervention. Australian Government policies express the need for targeted inventions for CALD communities. The broader systemic application of MHWs in Australian primary health care may provide one of the most useful targeted interventions for CALD communities.

Abstract:
Worries about the negative health effects of modern life (Modern health worries, MHW) have increased during the last decades, but the phenomenon is not fully understood. The present study investigated the associative and predictive relationship between different types of MHW and symptoms of anxiety and depression in a large sample from Västerbotten county, Sweden (n=2223). The four subscales of the Modern Health Worries Scale (MHWS) were used to assess different types of MHW, while symptoms of depression and anxiety were assessed by using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Spearman's correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used to assess the degrees of association and prediction, respectively. It was shown that the subscales were associated with symptoms of both anxiety and depression to varying degrees, however MHW did not significantly predict symptoms of neither anxiety nor depression. This suggests that when using the MHWS in clinical settings, examining the subscales rather than the global score of MHWS provides a more nuanced understanding of an individual's experience. It also suggests that experiencing MHW does not cause an increase in neither anxiety nor depression.

The study presents evaluation of pig genetic markers (MHS and MC4R) associated with performance traits in the Lithuanian White pig breed. The study presents a direct approach the testing and explanation of the quantitative part of the trait and QTL with marker based on estimated breeding values in the Lithuanian White population. Information about the strategies for association analysis and improvement can be applied for further characterization of the Lithuanian White population. The use of breeding values instead of single measurements reduces the bias in the recorded performance traits, therefore, the results obtained by using the marker for the Lithuanian White population gives animal breeders the opportunities for realization of a short-term goal in their selection criteria.

In 1961 the training started at the newly founded Swedish Military College. Thefoundation of the military college was done after considerations published inseveral official reports. One of the reports stated that the training in strategy had alot to win by being coordinated between the different military arms. One of themotives that the report stated was that a common view of different defence issueswould be easier to attain in a coordinated training. In this essay I have examined if this so called common view is coherent with theofficial policy150 that is stated from the government. I have also examined if thetraining is influenced by the changes of direction in policies occurring. A secondaim with this essay is to give a broad picture of what assumptions and issues thatinfluenced the training at the time. The essays examination is delimited to the timebetween 1961 and 1972, and is based on the training in strategy. The examinationis based on a study of original manuscripts consisting of various tests carried outwithin the framework of the strategytraining 1961-1972.The result of the examination indicates that the training is highly influenced by theofficial policy at the time. The result also shows that the grade of influence ishigher prior 1968, at lest concerning the views of different threats that is used inthe training. At the same time the result shows that the training is influenced bythe policy after 1968 even though training is not based on official policy in thesame extension as earlier. The difference is first and foremost in the way threats isdescribed in the training.

Abstract:
Organizational knowledge, or intellectual capital, is nowadays recognized as a key factor not only for growth, but for survival of organizations in dynamic, disturbed, uncertain and highly innovative and competitive environments, such as the ones in the current scenario of rising global economies. Organizational knowledge management (KM) is introduced, therefore, as one of the necessary conditions for competitive strategies success. However, of course, it is not enough, and the need for external knowledge, through merger and acquisition (M&A), is recognized as an essential management process, an alternative for innovative P&D procedure, normally slow and burdensome. Anyway, researches have assured that, worldwide, only 30% of M&A cases have reached success in their business goals. Nevertheless, this kind of business have been considered essential for the expansion of worldwide companies, since mere organic growth is insufficient, which is a paradox. This case study aims to describe and explain the causes for the failure phenomena in Xerox|MHW company strategy performance, combined when Xerox acquired MHW, with knowledge management as its key component. The literature consulted to comprehend these basic concerning concepts encompasses topics about organizational models, strategies, knowledge management and results of company merger and acquisition processes. The gathering of evidences, adopting triangulation procedures, has been performed using documents, interviews and two surveys. The second survey aimed to validate the data collected previously. Based on MACEDO-SOARES (2000) GI systemic-integrative model, the reality revealed by the research is contradictory in relation to the requirements, presuppositions and suppositions implicit in the strategy conception, resulting, from this, its nonadjustment to the organization performance, trying to pursuit its strategic objective. The conclusion is that an acquisition process is far from being something trivial, and the problems of organizational non- adjustment - mainly cultural, in cases of scope acquisition, particularly involving a major bureaucratic company and a minor one with flexible organization model - are the responsible factors for this high percentage. About organizational knowledge, it is clear that understanding it as an essential resource in the current business scenario is not enough. It is crucial the implementation of practices and procedures to its management. However, building this new and complex process requires, because of it, solid support from high level management in the companies and the development of a proper culture, fitting its accomplishment.

Four types of analytical magnetic fields are formulated, with different forms of current. The magnetic field model which has a uniform current directed along the separator, is used through the rest of this thesis to form MHS equilibria and to study reconnection. This magnetic field, which is not force-free, embedded in a high-beta plasma, relaxes non-resistively using a 3D MHD code. The relaxation causes the field about the separator to collapse leading to a twisted current layer forming along the separator. The MHS equilibrium current layer slowly becomes stronger, longer, wider and thinner with time. Its properties, and the properties of the plasma, are found to depend on the initial parameters of the magnetic field, which control the geometry of the magnetic configuration. Such a MHS equilibria is used in a high plasma-beta reconnection experiment. An anomalous resistivity ensures that only the central strong current in the separator current layer is dissipated. The reconnection occurs in two phases characterised by fast and slow reconnection, respectively. Waves, launched from the diffusion site, communicate the loss of force balance at the current layer and set up flows in the system. The energy transport in this system is dominated by Ohmic dissipation. Several methods are presented which allow a low plasma-beta value to be approached in the single-separator model. One method is chosen and this model is relaxed non-resistively to form a MHS equilibrium. A twisted current layer grows along the separator, containing stronger current than in the high plasma-beta experiments, and has a local enhancement in pressure inside it. The growth rate of this current layer is similar to that found in the high plasma-beta experiments, however, the current layer becomes thinner and narrower over time.

Abstract:
Satisfaction with in-patient maternity care within the Military Healthcare System (MHS) continues to score significantly below national benchmarks when compared to civilian hospitals and doctors. Lack of independent, qualitative research in this area has left the MHS with few answers as to why patients are satisfied, but still unhappy, with specific aspects of care. Discrepancy theory was used in conjunction with grounded theory as the foundation and framework for understanding the expectations and experiences of women who have given birth in the MHS within the past year. Using grounded theory and a hermeneutical approach to interview participants, qualitative data were collected to understand these women's expectations, experiences, and satisfaction. Participants were active duty dependents who had given birth within the last year at a local hospital and used TRICARE as their only insurance. They were recruited through the base's local community online network and 12 women total participated. Data were carefully analyzed using transcriptions and were subsequently grouped into common patterns, and then into themes. Findings revealed 3 key themes: (a) participants had one or more complaints or complications with their maternity care; (b) previous experiences on standard care were mostly negative, and (c) differences in satisfaction may be seen when a patient's personal experiences and beliefs about an occurrence are met or excused. This study contributes to social change by adding previously unexplored qualitative data to the military healthcare community in a population that had not been investigated in this manner and has the potential to increase understanding about the population, as well as how experiences, expectations, and satisfaction coexist.

Abstract:
Building Related Illness (BRI) is one of several environmental sensitivities. The two constructs Modern Health Worries (MHW) and Somatosensory Amplification (SSA) have both been shown to be linked to nocebo and are often reported by people with environmental sensitivities. The first purpose of this paper was to increase the understanding of symptoms that characterize BRI, which was investigated via 20 items selected from The Idiopathic Enviromental Intolerance Symptom Inventory (IEISI) that complies with WHO's list of BRI symptoms. The second purpose was to increase knowledge about the role of nocebo in BRI, which was investigated via Modern Health Worries Scale (MHWS) and Somatosensory Amplification Scale (SSAS). Data was obtained from an ongoing study at Umeå University. The sample consisted of 79 individuals who reported that they experienced BRI symptoms each week. Data was analyzed via correlation analyzes. The group showed variability concerning which and how many symptoms the individuals reported. The results from the correlation analyzes showed that nocebo did not play a significant role in the reporting of BRI symptoms in the selection group. The study showed that the group of BRI patients neither worry more than the norm nor was particularly sensitive to sensory impressions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Previous research has proved Double-layer Microchannel Heat Sinks (MHSs) to be efficient ways to improve the cooling performance of electronic devices. However, the cooling potential of the upper working liquid cannot be fully utilized to cool down the substrate with the heated elements. In this sense, a concept of staggered double-layer MHS is proposed and designed. The parallel and counter flow directions are considered to investigate the flow arrangement effect. The Reynolds number effect, Nusselt number and pressure drop are analyzed in detail and compared with those of a parallel straight double-layer MHS. It is found that the staggered double-layer MHSs exhibit much better heat transfer enhancement and overall thermal performance compared with the parallel straight double-layer MHS. For the staggered double-layer MHSs, the counter flow case is superior to the parallel flow case. This research provides a new structure design to enhance the heat transfer in microchannel heat sinks and broad application prospects for heat sinks in the thermal management of high power density electronic devices.

Abstract:
The development of gas turbines, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has continued to pursue and contribute to society in terms of global environmental conservation and stable energy supply. MHPS leverages its abundant gas turbine operation experience and takes advantage of its extensive advanced technologies research on the Japanese National Project. MHPS has been participating in this project since 2004. Recent years’ achievements include the demonstration of a gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) efficiency in excess of 62% created by increasing the turbine inlet temperature to the 1,600°C class in the M501J in 2011. The Latest M701F incorporates “J” gas turbine technologies, already applied to actual equipment, for efficiency improvement. It also applies air-cooled combustor technologies successfully validated in the G class, for increased flexibility. The 1st unit started commercial operation in 2015 and currently 4 units has accumulated more than 46,000 actual operating hours collectively. MHPS is making the upgrading program for existing F-series gas turbines. The proven technology verified in the M501J and developed in the National project increases efficiency and reliability. This paper explains the features and development status of Latest M701F gas turbine, and explains upgrade program for existing F-series gas turbines.

Abstract:
Metal-based microchannel heat exchangers (MHEs) offer potential solutions to applications demanding high heat flux removal, such as cooling of high-performance microelectronic and energy-efficient lighting modules. Efficient fabrication of metal-based MHEs and quantitative flow and heat transfer measurements on them are critical for establishing the economic and technical feasibility of such devices. Adopting metal-based MHEs in many applications demands quantification of flow and heat transfer performance with application-relevant coolants, e.g. ethylene glycol (EG)/water mixtures rather than pure water. As a first step in this direction, we report here fabrication and assembly of all-Cu MHE prototypes, as well as results of flow and heat transfer testing using pure EG and pure water as the fluid medium. Results of heat transfer testing indicate sensitivity of overall heat transfer performance to entrance length effects, which in the case of pure EG, is significantly influenced by its physical properties under the testing condition.

Abstract:
Recently the dispatch priority of renewable energy sources is getting higher due to CO2 reduction policies [2]. This reduces operating time and revenue for Gas Turbine Combined Cycle (GTCC) plants. Upgrade programs for GTCC give a financial benefit and global CO2 reduction by the effective use of renewables [1]. The knowledge of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can improve the performance and reliability according to user requirements. Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System (MHPS) developed upgrade programs utilizing advanced technology to improve performance for existing F class GTCC units. The F4 technology performance upgrade is a program to increase performance by turbine cooling air reduction. It can be applied to both 50 Hz and 60 Hz engines under the scale design rule. The upgrade development was completed with verification at commercial plants. The expected performance enhancement was achieved successfully. This paper describes our approach and verification results for user’s asset value enhancement.

Abstract:
Different from conventional metal foams, the mixed open/closed cell characteristic of the sintered metallic hollow sphere (MHS) materials offers excellent specific stiffness and energy absorption capacity. Based on our experimental study on two types of MHS specimens we reported before, a theoretical model is presented here to predict the mechanical behavior of the MHS materials in large strains (i.e. in the plateau phase). It is anticipated that the HCP packing configuration dominates in the actual MHS material structure, so that this configuration is taken in the idealized model. Based on the hypothesis of a periodic repeatability of a representative block, the large deformation of hollow spheres compressed by rigid balls is numerically simulated to identify the characteristics of deformation mechanism. Then, a rigid-plastic analysis is adopted to model this large deformation mechanism and to predict the stress-strain behavior of the representative block. Thus, the variation of the stress with strain is obtained for the idealized material of certain relative density, resulting in a relationship between the average stress in large strains (i.e. the plateau stress) and the relative density of the actual material. The predicted stresses are found in good agreement with the experimentally measured characteristic stresses of the two types of MHS materials.

Abstract:
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) has continued to contribute to the preservation of the global environment and the stable supply of energy through the constant development of gas turbines. The contribution is based on the abundant operating results, research, and verification of state-of-the-art technology. Since 2014 MHPS has been using progressive knowledge obtained from the Japanese National Project’s “1700°C Class Ultrahigh-Temperature Gas Turbine Component Technology Development.” The highly-efficient M501J gas turbine was successfully developed and has achieved the world’s first turbine inlet temperature of 1600°C because of this effort. Verification operation of the M501J at T-point, the verification plant, which MHPS owns in Takasago, started in 2011. Thereafter, M501J gas turbines have been delivered all over the world, and have accumulated more than 500,000 Actual Operating Hours (AOH). To further improve the efficiency and power output of the gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC), a new enhanced air-cooled system for the combustor was installed replacing the steam-cooled system employed in the J-series. The compressor was also redesigned with an advanced design approach that ensures the mechanical soundness of the parts and the performance upgrade in inlet flow as well as start-up characteristics.

Abstract:
Gas-turbine combined-cycle (GTCC) power generation is clean and efficient, and its demand will increase in the future from economic and social perspectives. Raising turbine inlet temperature is an effective way to increase combined cycle efficiency and contributes to global environmental conservation by reducing CO2 emissions and preventing global warming. However, increasing turbine inlet temperature can lead to the increase of NOx emissions, depletion of the ozone layer and generation of photochemical smog. To deal with this issue, MHPS (MITSUBISHI HITACHI POWER SYSTEMS) and MHI (MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES) have developed Dry Low NOx (DLN) combustion techniques for high temperature gas turbines. In addition, fuel flexibility is one of the most important features for DLN combustors to meet the requirement of the gas turbine market. MHPS and MHI have demonstrated DLN combustor fuel flexibility with natural gas (NG) fuels that have a large Wobbe Index variation, a Hydrogen-NG mixture, and crude oils.
