Abstract:
This diploma thesis focuses on Michal Dočekal’s role as Artistic Director of Drama at the National Theatre in Prague. The first chapter deals with Dočekal’s artistic beginnings and his significant work experience. The second chapter charts the situation at the National Theatre after 1989 and examines the role of Artistic Director and what abilities should such a person have in order to fulfil this role. On the basis of a detailed analysis and research I then endeavour to describe the most important moments of Dočekal’s reign as the chief. In the following individual chapters I examine his philosophy, directorial and actors’ personalities, subsidiary activities of the company and also the issues Dočekal, as Director, had to deal with.

Abstract:
This experiment attempts to measure the Michel parameter Rho in normal muon decay Mu to e nu_{e} nu_{mu} with a precision of 0.001. The Standard Model with pure V-A interaction gives 0.75 for this parameter. The world average value is 0.7518 +/- 0.0026. A deviation of the value of Rho from 0.75 will indicate new physics. The experiment, RHO, was carried out at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico, USA, in 1993. The existing experimental set-up that was built for the MEGA experiment was used for the RHO measurement. The experiment was a collaboration of about 50 physicists from Los Alamos National Laboratory, Stanford University, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Virginia Tech, Texas A University, Indiana University, Valparaiso University, University of Houston, University of Chicago and University of Virginia. The result of the experiment is in agreement with Standard Model. The precision of this measurement was dominated by systematic uncertainties due to the fact that the positron spectrometer used in the measurement was designed for another experiment. Thus, the data analysis here focused mainly on the determination of systematic errors.

Doctor of Philosophy
Dingo Media examines the development of media events using as a case study one of Australia’s most widely known criminal investigations, the disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain at “Ayers Rock”. Considering the case as a blueprint for the way mass media events develop and evolve in the late capitalist era, this thesis suggests that the event marks a turning point in negotiation of the public sphere and Australian national identity. Using an original model, I trace from the 1980s five phases through which news stories pass in their evolution as modern media events by comparing the Chamberlain saga to contemporary cases involving “controversial” women, Schapelle Corby, Joanne Lees and Pauline Hanson. The first phase examines the emerging practice of news workers focusing on personalities rather than events; the second phase analyses both the formation of counter-publics protesting the conviction, and the development of a dialogic connection between media and publics; the third phase investigates the rise of a modern celebrity industry promoting “ordinary” individuals into subjects of media discourse; the fourth phase considers the process of mythic production surrounding the Chamberlain case as related to processes of nation-building in the late 1980s; finally, the fifth phase critiques the prevalent view that, through continual retelling, the event has suffered a loss of meaning. Axiomatic to this study will be the politics of representation, how the media records, organises and mythologises information, as well as the interaction between texts and audiences.

The aim of my thesis is to show based on a compilation of selected documentary films and my own creation that originated documentary department, which does not yet have a specific name . In the beginning it was necessary to delimit what one can understand as psychoanalysis as, even in Foucault s book, it may be seen under diverse approaches. Therefore an investigation has been carried out going over all of Foucault s pathway to check the different ways this author approches psychoanalysis in its diverse theoretical moments. Three distinct approuches can be clearly made out all over Foucault s work; at first psychoanalysis is seem as closely related to discourse, then the discussion turns to Freud as author and finally in Story of Sexuality: An Introduction psychoanalysis is seen as a dispositive. The concept of psychoanalysis to wich Foucault refers to in this book is the one related to practice, to exercise, undesrtood as an instituition of knowledge. In order to contextualize historically the different discussions throughout Foucault s work a brief study has been carried out concerning his relationship to the structuralism which was emerging in France as he was publishing his studies. In a second moment-the chosen work already being analyzed-the concepts which support biopolitics have been studied regarding their relationship to discipline and the government of populations-two points which provide a basis to this concept. After being analyzed the questions on biopolitics were related to the point of view presented by Foucault in Story of Sexuality: An Introduction about psychoanalysis and it has been attenpted to examine which consequences this relationship brings to psychoanalysis as well to biopolitics. Finally resuming the questions reised above and connecting them to each other it has been attempted to point out which aspects of psychoanalysis are linked to biopolitics and wich are not
Este estudo busca compreender através da leitura rigorosa da obra História da Sexualiade-V.I-A Vontade de Saber de Michel Foucault se a psicanálise se relaciona ou não com a Biopolítica, ou melhor, em quais aspectos há relação e em quais não. De inicio foi necessário delimitar o que se entende por psicanálise já que, mesmo nas obras de Foucault, ela ganha diversos enfoques. Para tanto fez-se uma investigação percorrendo todo o percurso de Foucault para verificar o modo que esse autor aborda a psicanálise em seus diferentes momentos teóricos. Percebeu-se que houve três abordagens distintas durante toda a sua obra; em um primeiro momento a psicanálise é vista como Discursividade depois a discussão recai sobre Freud como autor e finalmente em História da Sexualiade-V.I-A Vontade de Saber a psicanálise é vista como dispositivo. Nesta obra a psicanálise a qual Foucault se refere é a do exercício, da prática, entendida como uma instituição do saber. A fim de contextualizar historicamente as diversas discussões no decorrer da obra de Foucault, estudou-se rapidamente qual a sua relação com o estruturalismo que emergia na França no momento em que ele produzia seus estudos. Em um segundo momento já analisando a obra escolhida estudou-se os conceitos que sustentam a biopoltica até chegar a sua relação com a disciplina e o governo das populações que são dois pontos que embasam este conceito. Depois de analisadas, as questões sobre biopolítica, foram relacionadas com a visão apresentada por Foucault em História da Sexualidade-V. I sobre a psicanálise e tentou-se verificar quais as conseqüências desta relação tanto para a psicanálise quanto para a biopolítica. This study concerns the genre analysis of five texts (articles) in isiXhosa from Bona Magazine using genre theoretic approach.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study concerns the genre analysis of five texts (articles) in isiXhosa from Bona Magazine using genre theoretic approach. They all analyse genre of social community leaders using the theory of Grabe & Kaplan. (1996) All five articles re attached as appendices at the end of this assignment. The chapters 2 and 3 present an overview of different views expressed by different linguistics and researchers in relation to the genre theoretic approach and how these theories are applied in analyses. The views of Bhatia (1993) are also used in that he promotes the use of language in text when people communicate either in written or verbal format. Bhatia emphasizes the use of text linguistic properties and insights in the culture of participants to ensure that communication purpose is reached. Among other things, he invokes text structure, lexical choices, cohesion and coherence of text, content and theme are analyzed. This study investigates the social cognitive and linguistic choices and how they influence writing and reading. The purpose and meaning of the text is depicted as very important in the analysis of written text. (Bhatia; 1993) The first part of chapter 4 deals with the theory of Grabe & Kaplan (1996), which emphasizes the use of ethnography of writing. The ethnography of writing according to Grabe & Kaplan (1996) entails the answers to the following basic questions: Who is writing? To whom? For what purpose? Why? When? And how? The answers to these questions are to be formed in the analysis of the articles on Grabe & Kaplan's views on the relationship between ethnography of writing and lexicon of writing skills are also analyzed. The study also includes Halliday's (1984) views. Educating children in their home language environment makes them to learn better as they write in their own language and about the things they know. Lastly there is a short discussion about the relationship between the new genre approach and Outcomes-Based Education. (OBE) The similarities they share in connection with aims, goals and purposes as language teaching approached are touched upon.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie studie hou verband met die genre analise van vyf tekste (artikels) in Xhosa uit die Bona tydskrif. Die analises handel oor die genre van sosiale gemeenskapsleiers binne die raamwerk van Grabe en Kaplan (1996). AI vyf die artikels is in In Appendix aangeheg aan die einde van hierdie werkstuk. Hoofstukke 2 en 3 bied In oorsig aan van verskillende sieninge van linguiste t.o.v. die genre-teoretiese benadering en die aanwending van die teoretiese uitgangspunte in analises van tekste. Die sieninge van Bhatia (1993) word ook ingespan m.b.t. die kommunikasie tussen mense. Bhatia wend tekslinguistiese eienskappe aan asook sosiale en kulturele insigte in die ondersoek van hoe kommunikatiewe doelstelling bereik word. Hy gebruik o.a. tekslinguistiese kenmerke, leksikale keuses, kohesie en koherensie, en tematiese realiserings in die teks. Die doelstelling van die teks is uiters belangrik volgens die betekenis wat Bhatia in die teks ondersoek. Die eerste gedeelte van hoofstuk 4 handel oor Grabe en Kaplan (1996) se model van tekskonstruksie en die etnografie van skryf. Die onderrig van leerders is beter as hulle in hulle huistaal skryf en leer. Abstract:
La théorie des genres se trouve à l’origine même de la conceptualisation par les études littéraires de leur objet. Les théoriciens des genres ont d’abord analysé les caractéristiques internes des genres comme entités réelles. Cette approche a provoqué une crise portant précisément sur la réalité — ou l’irréalité — de ces catégories, que les chercheurs ont voulu résoudre au XXe siècle grâce à une posture pragmatiste s’intéressant aux conséquences pratiques des catégorisations génériques davantage qu’aux genres littéraires en tant que tels. En s’attardant ainsi sur les conséquences pratiques de la généricité, la perspective pragmatiste, qui domine de nos jours la génologie, a mis de côté la composante imaginaire des genres. Cette dernière s’avère néanmoins centrale pour comprendre le rapport complexe des individus et des collectivités à la littérature. Aussi cette thèse argue-t-elle que les genres littéraires, loin d’être de simples catégories abstraites, sont des représentations. Après avoir revisité la notion de genre à partir de celle de représentation, la présente recherche s’engage dans une exploration de l’imaginaire des genres littéraires. Des exemples tirés de la théorie des genres, des origines à nos jours, permettent d’observer que même les génologies construisent des représentations des genres qu’elles entendent pourtant aborder de manière objective. Ensuite, la thèse se penche sur la littérature franco-canadienne contemporaine, qui constitue un formidable laboratoire pour explorer cette nouvelle théorisation du problème des genres littéraires, montrant que les catégories génériques reflètent dans ce corpus des enjeux sociaux, politiques ou existentiels. Les analyses présentées invitent en fin de compte les chercheurs à élargir leur compréhension de la généricité et à porter attention à sa dimension imaginaire, qui n’a, jusqu’ici, jamais été introduite dans une théorisation générale de la question des genres littéraires.
