Abstract:

Este artigo tem por objetivo mostrar que algumas das propostas apresentadas por Michel Bréal em seu Ensaio de Semântica (1992 [1904]) podem ser utilizadas em análises pragmático-cogtinitivas do uso linguístico. Apresentada uma breve revisão da literatura recente sobre o estudioso (2002 a 2012), suas propostas são descritas sob o viés pragmático de Nerlich e Clarke (1996). Após uma descrição ainda mais minuciosa dos insights pragmáticos do ensaio, uma análise de usos da conjunção “como” em textos oficiais paranaenses setecentistas e oitocentistas mostra a aplicabilidade deste modelo teórico.

AbstractIn his Geneva lectures in November 1891, Saussure stated a sort of “paradox of the will,” saying: “Can linguistic facts be said to be the result of acts of will? That is the question. The current science of language gives a positive answer. However, one should add immediately that … the linguistic act, if I might call it that, is characterized as being the least reflected on, the least premeditated, as well as the most impersonal of all.” This issue – shared with Michel Bréal – remains important in Saussure’s thought until the end, and it is possible to read some of the most important pages of his works in the light of this paradox – a kind of free will problem in a linguistic fashion. Such a focus on the will opens a different perspective on semiology (“For the distinguishing characteristic of the sign – but the one that is least apparent at first sight – is that in some way it always eludes the individual or social will”– as we read in the Course), reassesses the status of notions like “institution” and “arbitrariness” and allows a (critical) comparison with other paradigms in the current debate of social ontology (e.g., Searle’s account).

Abstract:

O mundo contemporâneo é um espaço organizado e normatizado pela modalidade escrita da língua. Nesse cenário, a escola pública brasileira organiza suas atividades de ensino a partir do Livro Didático (LD) e, em alguns casos, este é o único recurso didático disponível na escola. Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar as designações dos termos “história” e “tempo”, no LD de História intitulado Sociedade Cidadania do 6º ano (BOULOS JUNIOR, 2015), a partir dos postulados teórico-metodológicos da Semântica do Acontecimento, discutindo a relevância desses conceitos no processo de ensino-aprendizagem desta disciplina. Teoricamente, fundamenta-se nas obras Guimarães (2017) e Rancière (2018), Marx (2011), Marx (2013), Koselleck (2014). Na análise, identificamos que a designação de “história”, no enunciado [1], significa ultrapassado e desinteressante; no enunciado [2], significa prazer e conhecimento. A designação de “tempo”, no enunciado [3], significa período contínuo de caráter natural ou mecânico; no enunciado [4], significa período contínuo de caráter coletivo (cultural). Por fim, é possível concluir que a articulação da Semântica do Acontecimento com a disciplina História pode potencializar a aprendizagem, uma vez que pode ampliar a percepção dos alunos quanto à dinâmica dos fenômenos históricos.Referências:BENVENISTE, Émile. Abstract:

RESUME Bien que le terme 'sociolinguistics' n'ait ete introduit dans le vocabulai-re technique de la linguistique qu'en 1952 par Haver Currie et que la socio-linguistique ne soit devenue une sous-discipline importante de la science du langage que depuis les annees soixante (v. Bright 1966), cet article main-tient qu'une telle approche du langage existait depuis longtemps, peut-etre plus de cent ans. En d'autres mots, nous avangons qu'il y avait une sociolin-guistique bien avant la lettre. En effet, on retrouve dans la linguistique generate de Wiliam Dwight Whitney (1827-1894) et de Heymann Steinthal (1823-1899) et dans quel-ques articles de Michel Breal (1832-1915) des annees 60 et 70 du siecle dernier des observations qui mettent en relief la nature sociale du langage. Les dialectologues de la meme periode, surtout en France et dans les pays de langue allemande, etaient tout a fait conscients du fait que l'etude des patois, des parlers et des langues orales en general devait etre guidee par des considerations sociologiques (v. Malkiel 1976). Dans la linguistique compa-ree et historique c'est Antoine Meillet (1866-1936), eleve de Saussure et de Breal et collaborates de la revue d'Emile Durkheim, Vannee sociologique, au debut de notre siecle, qui a insiste sur l'importance de l'aspect social (et sociologique) dans l'etude du changement linguistique (par ex., Meillet 1905). Avec ses eleves de Paris, surtout Joseph Vendryes (1875-1960), Alf Sommerfelt (1892-1965) et Marcel Cohen (1884-1974), Meillet etablit l'ecole sociologique du langage (par ex., Vendryes 1921; Sommerfelt 1932; Cohen 1956). Enfin, il existe — a cote de la dialectologie et de l'histoire des langues — encore une troisieme source de la sociolinguistique: l'etude du bilinguisme (par ex., Max Weinreich 1931; Haugen 1953). Ces trois traditions de la recherche linguistique se trouvent toutes reunis dans l'etude de Uriel Weinreich (1926-1967), Languages in Contact (1953), et puisque l'ouvrage de William Labov de 1966, The Social Stratification of English in New York City, qui est souvent cite (bien a tort) comme point de depart de la sociolo-gie moderne, representait sa these de doctorate ecrite sous la direction de Weinreich, il n'est pas etonnant de voir ces traditions, surtout celles de la linguistique geographique et de la linguistique historique, maintenues dans l'oeuvre de Labov (par ex., 1976, 1982). SUMMARY Although the term 'sociolinguistics' was not introduced into linguistic nomenclature before 1952 (see Currie 1952) and the field became a recognized field of research in the late 1960s only (e.g., Bright 1966), it is clear that the subject did not begin two decades ago. Indeed, an investigation into the sources of 'sociolinguistics' reveals that its beginnings go back at least 100 years, to the work of William Dwight Whitney (1827-1894), Heymann Steinthal (1823-1899), Michel Breal (1832-1915), and others. However, these were the first programmatic statements and a number of developments in the study of language were necessary to converge upon the kind of sociolinguistics which most students of language associate with the name of William Labov (e.g., Labov 1966), at least in North America. Interestingly enough, it is also in the work of Labov (e.g., 1972) that the origins of 'sociolinguistics' (to some extent in contradistinction to the 'sociology of language' approach associated with Basil Bernstein, Joshua A. Fishman, and others) could be traced, although neither Labov nor the prolific Dell Hymes has written anything on the history of sociolinguistics. (Indeed, the only paper that comes close to it was written by an outsider to the field, the great Romance scholar Yakov Malkiel, in 1976.) In my paper, I shall demonstrate that there are essentially three major traditions of investigation that led to 'sociolinguistics', namely, (1) Dialectology, especially the work done in German-speaking lands and in France from the 1870s onwards (e.g., Georg Wenker [1852-1911], Jules Gillieron [1854-1926], and others) — part of which had been undertaken in an effort to verify and possibility to support the neogrammarian 'regularity hypothesis' of sound changes; (2) Historical Linguistics, in particular the kind advocated by Antoine Meillet (1866-1936) and his school (e.g., Meillet 1905; Vendryes 1921), which developed into a 'science sociologique' of linguistics in general (Sommerfelt 1932) and a 'sociologie du langage' (e.g., Cohen 1956) among the younger Meillet disciples, and (3) Bilingualism Studies (e.g., Max Weinreich 1931; Haugen 1953), traditions all of which can be found united in the 1953 study of Uriel Weinreich (1926-1967), who happens to have been Labov's teacher and mentor.

Este artigo propõe-se a investigar questões de subjetividade que permitem explicar as formas através das quais a linguagem funciona de modo concreto. Estabelecendo relações de contraponto entre as noções de subjetividade presentes em ‘Ensaio de Semântica: ciência das significações’, de Michel Bréal, publicado em 1897, e ‘Marxismo e Filosofia da Linguagem’, de Bakhtin\Voloshinov, publicado em 1929, buscamos , através de nossas análises, mostrar que, não obstante diferentes, estas concepções de linguagem e de subjetividade estão muito próximas.

RESUMO Os estudos acerca da Semântica enquanto disciplina têm seu marco na publicação, por Michel Bréal, artigo Les lois intellectuelles du langage: fragmente de sémantique, em 1883. Desde então, muitos teóricos têm elaborado suas pesquisas com vistas ao desenvolvimento de uma semântica cujas abordagens explorem diferentes facetas do sentido da linguagem. Uma dessas pesquisas é a Semântica Linguística, ou Semântica Argumentativa, cujo princípio que a norteia é o de que a argumentação, ou o sentido, está inscrita na língua. Diante desse cenário, este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar um panorama sobre os fundamentos da Teoria da Argumentação na Língua, desenvolvida por Oswald Ducrot e colaboradores. Para isso, foram revisitadas as principais obras do semanticista com vistas a oferecer uma releitura dos conceitos defendidos pelo autor, bem como a desenvolver a concepção de linguagem a partir da qual a ANL investiga o sentido. Destarte, este artigo caracteriza-se como uma revisão bibliográfica cujo objetivo reside em apresentar uma introdução à Teoria da Argumentação na Língua.

Abstract:

O presente artigo tem como objetivo traçar um percurso histórico para a constituição do conceito de ‘enunciação’ tal como é postulado pela Semântica da Enunciação e mapear como e quando este termo aparece nos livros teóricos e sob quais características. Optou-se, através de pesquisa bibliográfica, por percorrer um trajeto teórico até o ano de 2018, partindo da década de 1660 do século XVII. O percurso é marcado pelos postulados de Antoine Arnauld, Claude Lancelot, Pierre Nicole, Gottlob Frege, Michel Bréal, Ferdinand Saussure, Pierre Guiraud, Mikhail Bakhtin, Stephen Ullmann, Émile Benveniste e chega a Oswald Ducrot e Eduardo Guimarães. Esta análise destaca Bakhtin e seu círculo, que postularam bases enunciativas a partir de Saussure e outros autores; Benveniste, que traz discussões importantes e pertinentes ao tema ora estudado; Ducrot, que estuda Saussure e Bakhtin, avançando em conceitos como locutor, alocutor, dentre outros; e Guimarães por mostrar desdobramentos importantes da teoria de Ducrot e aprofundá-la no sentido da Semântica Enunciativa. Voltamos a atenção para estes autores por entendermos que os mesmos, na contemporaneidade, são referências para o uso do termo ‘enunciação’. Compreender como uma noção teórica toma forma possibilita-nos refletir sobre a constituição da Semântica em diferentes perspectivas. Nosso corpus, formado pelas obras completas ou parciais destes autores, constitui acervo importante para a análise que empreendemos. Esta produção integra as atividades do Grupo de Pesquisa Educação e Estudos de Linguagem (GedEL/UNEMAT).
