Abstract:
This paper presents a computer program for analysing pumping test data. The program is interactive and may be used with a minimum knowledge of computers. It can be applied to a wide range of transient problem types, from one dimensional groundwater flow to flow in anisotropic aquifers, horizontally as well as vertically. Various forms of type curves based on analytical solutions to the groundwater flow equation are available for the interpretation. The paper includes a listing of the entire computer program containing a total of about 1. 800 lines. The programming language is a BASIC-version suited for the Tektronix 4054, a graphic screen with a refresh option. This option allows the user to perform type curve matching directly on the screen by moving the chosen type curve to the position where it gives the best fit, in a manner similar to traditional manual chart interpretation. Plots of the measured data may be conveniently reproduced in semilog and log-log diagrams, either on the screen or as a hard copy printed by a plotter. The present version of the program makes use of tape cartridges, both for storing program and data files.

Abstract:
This paper describes computer-aided analysis of centrifugal compressors (CAACC), a micro-computer-based, interactive, and menu-driven software package for use as an educational tool by mechanical engineering students studying radial flow compressors. CAACC is written in the Pascal computer language and runs on IBM PC, or compatible, computers. In addition to solving for any unknown variables, the graphical utilities of the package allow the user to display a diagrammatic sketch of the compressor and to draw velocity diagrams at several locations. Furthermore, the program allows the investigation and plotting of the variation of any parameter versus any other parameter. Through this option, the package guides the student in learning the basics of centrifugal compressors by the various performance studies that can be undertaken and graphically displayed. The comprehensive example presented demonstrates the capabilities of the package as a teaching tool.

Abstract:
There were two findings in this research. First, media that helped the students in understanding Listening Comprehension materials and second, the students’ reasons in choosing the media seen from two aspects: (1) how the media helped the students to master the micro and macro skill of listening and (2) how the media helped the students to understand the listening comprehension process. The first finding showed 74.13% of students selected audio visual media that helped them in understanding Listening Comprehension, while 25.175% and 0.695% of them preferred audio and visual media respectively. The second finding showed to improve to the macro skills of listening, 61.73% of the students argued that they were helped by audio visual media, while 38.26% of them were helped by audio media. On the other hand, 53.35% of the students aired their opinion that their micro skills of listening were improved through the use of audio visual media and 46.64% of them stated that they are helped with the audio media use. Film, television, video, computer, gadget, games and song accommodated all of the eight listening comprehension processes. Therefore, the researcher suggests that the teacher should use audio media to help the students in mastering the micro skill of listening and audio visual media to assist the students in understanding the macro skill of listening. In addition, film, television, video, computer, gadget, games and song should be used to support the students in comprehending the listening comprehension process.

Abstract:
The current article deals mainly with the suprasentential units in English and their characteristic peculiarities. Some viewpoints of western, Russian and Azerbaijani linguists are discussed here. One of the important matters discussed here is to distinguish the notions “text” and “suprasentential units”, which was possible owing to the viewpoints and investigations of specialists in this field. To determine “suprasentential units”, some other terms such as, “micro-text” and “macro-text” are discussed here, too.

To get a detailed information on “suprasentential units”, phonetic experiment was carried out. The essence of the article is to determine the phoneticparameters of “suprasentential units” in the form of a short text. The experiment was realised at the Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. For acoustic analysis of the recorded materials, “Speech Analyser”, “WinCecil”, “PRAAT”, “MacSpeech Lab” programs have been used. In the acoustic analysis of speech signals of the given short text, the valuable “PRAAT” computer program created by the professors of Amsterdam University Paul Boersman and David Veenik has been widely used. “PRAAT” computer program has wide opportunities, such as to hold ossillographic and spectographic analysis of language materials (in our case, short texts), to get indicators of tonal frequency intensity, and length of language materials, etc. The above mentioned computer program provides specialists and learners with the chance of learning speech fragments having the recording time from several m/sec to several hours.

Abstract:
PIXE (Particle Induced X-ray Emission), mainly Proton Induced X-ray Emission, has been developed into a well established technique for elemental analysis, especially for trace elemental analysis down to ppm or even ppb level. Nuclear Microprobe is a quickly developing technique around the world for 2 dimensional or even 3 dimensional element analysis if several nuclear analytical techniques, such as Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) can be available at the same time. The present resolution of NMP can be down to less than 1μm. To thick target analysis, i.e., the energy loss effect and the consequent X-ray cross section Change with the depth can not be neglected, therefore we have to consider the process of particle interactions with atoms in detail. In this article, NMP (Nuclear Micro-Probe) and micro-PIXE analysis of thick target, which are mainly involved into the process of ions interaction with atoms, are reviewed on the basis of work what we have done at Fudan University. The software package TSPIXE (PIXE analysis of Thick Sample), which includes different versions for different applications, developed at Fudan University for quantitative analysis of thick target and simulation of PIXE and micro-PIXE spectra are described and its performance is demonstrated too. The TSPIXE package, which includes TSPIXE version I, version II, version III and TSμPIXE, was written in FORTRAN and C computer language and can be run at PC computer under MSDOS or WINDOWS environment. From the different demonstrations and applications we can see the package is very useful to quantitative analysis of thick samples and to understand the relationships between elemental X-ray intensity distributions and concentration distributions, sample structure, beam size and etc.

Abstract:
In time past, designs of shafts were conservative in approach as relatively low working stresses were employed to cover up for unknown “Factors of Ignorance”. [1]. And where high stresses are involved, greater shaft dimension is employed for such design. This approach necessarily made the production cost high as quite a lot of materials are involved in such production. The primary reason for such approach is to safeguard the shaft failure in most operations. Unfortunately, the mechanism of failure mode was not well understood and because most of the applications in which shafts are employed are of great importance, which in some cases affects life negatively (i.e. involving loss of lives) and distortion of operations. Despite all these developments, designers are still faced with the problems of working with large numbers of formulas, computations and iteration procedures involved in the design of shafts. These have made the design procedures of shafts both cumbersome and rigorous, hence time consuming. This problem becomes more pronounced if the designer is interested in seeing the effects of the variation of one or more design parameter, this means he has to start again from scratch. Fortunately, these problems can be overcome if the various advantages, utilities and flexibilities which modern high – speed micro – computers offer are put into good use in the design of shafts. This study was carried out to design shaft under various loading conditions using Computer Aided Design, and results gotten proved that it saves wastage of materials, and it safes time as well A software package (or program) was developed using the formulas initially derived and a numerical procedure for computing the deflection using the double integration methods. The Programming language used was Visual Studio C#. This objective was achieved in part as the program so developed satisfactorily handle design based on strength and safety of the shaft.

Abstract:
Network-based language teaching (NBLT) involves the application of global or local communication networks within foreign and second language education (Warschauer and Kern, 2000). In telecollaboration, a type of NBLT, distally located language learners use internet communication tools to support dialogue, debate, collaborative research and social interaction for the purposes of language development and cultural awareness (e.g. Kinginger et al., 1999). To date, the research on NBLT has been limited, focusing primarily on pedagogical implementations of technology and linguistic features of online communication. In particular, researchers have not robustly explored social and institutional dimensions of telecollaboration (Chapelle, 2000:217) nor have they adequately investigated the pervasive assumption that telecollaborative interaction will necessarily and unproblematically afford language learning (e.g. Kramsch and Thorne, to appear). Drawing on social realism (Layder, 1993), a sociological theory which emphasizes the inter-relationship between structure, i.e. society and institution, and agency, i.e. situated activity and psycho-biography, in researching and explaining social action, I present a sociocultural account of German-American telecollaboration. In particular, I explore the meanings that the macro features of (1) language valuation (Hilgendorf, 1996); (2) membership in electronic discourse communities (Gee, 1999); and (3) culturally determined classroom scripts (Hatch, 1992) may have for the differential functionality of virtual group work in this partnership. Differences in group functionality are reflected at the micro-interactional level in terms of (1) frequency and length of correspondence; (2) patterns of discursive behavior such as question-answer pairs; and (3) opportunities for assisted L2 performance and negotiation of meaning. Ethnographic data (e.g. interviews, electronic and classroom discourse, surveys and participant observations) on individual psycho-biographies are interwoven with macro-level descriptions and statistics to paint a rich picture of learner behavior in intercultural telecollaboration. This project is funded by a United States Department of Education International Research and Studies Program Grant (CFDA No.: 84.017A). The author is a research associate for the German component.

Every day, the technologies are expanding and developed with extra things to them. A cloud computing (CC) and Internet of things (IoT) became deeply associated with technologies of the internet of future with one supply the other a way helping it for the successful. Arduino microcontroller is used to design robotic arm to pick and place the objects by the web page commands that can be used in many industrials. It can pick and place an object from source to destination and drive the screws in into its position safely. The robot arm is controlled using web page designed by (html) language which contain the dashboard that give the commands to move the servos in the desired angle to get the aimed direction accordingly. At the receiver end there are four servo motors which are made to be interfaced with the micro controller (Arduino) which is connected to the wireless network router. One of these is for the arm horizontally movement and two for arm knee, while the fourth is for catch tings or tight movement. Two ultra-sonic sensors are used for limiting the operation area of the robotic arm. Finally, Proteus program is used for the simulation the controlling of robot before the hardware installation

Mbhambhu, Tsakani Joseph. "A Java bytecode compiler for the 8051 micro-controller." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/52645.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2002.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This report describes the development of a Java Bytecode Compiler (JBC) for the 8051 micro-controller. Bytecodes are found in the class file generated when a Java source file is compiled with the java compiler (javac). On Java platforms, the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) interprets and executes the bytecodes. Currently existing Java platforms do not support programming the 8051 using Java. As an 8-bit micro-controller with only 64 KB of total memory, the 8051's word size and memory is too limited to implement a NM. Moreover, full applications of the 8051 require that it handles hardware interrupts and access 110 ports and special registers. This thesis proposes a JBC to compile the standard bytecodes found in the class file and generate equivalent assembly code that can run on the 8051. The JBC was tested on the 8051 compatible AT89C52*44 micro-controller with a program that simulates an irrigation controller. The code generated by the JBC executes correctly but is large in size and runs slower than code of a program written in assembly. Conclusions drawn are that the JBC can be used to compile Java programs intended for the 8051 and its family of micro-controllers. In particular, it is especially a good tool for people who prefer Java to other languages. The JBC is suitable for smaller programs that do not have efficiency as a major requirement.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie tesis beskryf die ontwikkeling van 'n Java "Bytecode" samesteller (Java Bytecode Compiler, JBC) vir die 8051 mikro beheerder argitektuur.

Abstract:
Abstract Algorithms have been developed for warping analysis and calculation of the shearing stresses in a general porous cross section of a long rod when it is subjected to twisting torques at its ends. The shape and dimensions of the cross section full of holes are defined from the binary segmented image data with by a micro-CT scanning technique. Finite difference approximation of the Laplace equation governing the cross-sectional warping leading to the matrix solution by a Gauss-Seidel process is discussed. Method of pointer matrix which keeps the locations of the nonzero elements of the coefficient matrix, is employed to expedite the iterative solution. Computer programs are coded in QuickBASIC language to facilitate plotting of the computed distributions of warping and shearing stresses. The classical torsional problem of square and thin-walled cross sections are used to reexamine the accuracy of the developed algorithms and results are found to be in very good agreement.

Abstract This paper deals with conceptual orientation and system development of intelligent support system for general purpose FEA (finite element analysis) programs. An integrated support system called “InhierTalk” (Integrated interactive environment for hierarchical representation for FEA) has been developed in Smalltalk, an object oriented language, in order to confirm effectivity of hierarchical representation and to establish an optimum method of the system development. Two object-oriented knowledge models which consist of macro visual data representation and micro regularized data representation are proposed. In the development, it is found to be clear that active and passive evaluation methods are effective for construction of support system.

Abstract:
Balloons are long-time known space vehicles for science missions and technology in-flight experiments, with instruments that need out-of-atmosphere or in-situ measurements, thus being complementary to the satellite. They carry micro (few hundred grams) to mega (few tons) payloads, but all of them require micro cost, short development, multiple flights. Among the big ones, CNES stabilised gondolas are versatile space platforms used to fly science instruments mainly coming for aeronomy and astrophysics communities, and requiring stabilisation and pointing capabilities, analogous to satellite attitude control subsystems. For them, cost and development constraints cannot be met without highly flexible architectures and off-the-shelf components. In order to increase gondola flexibility to new missions (or adaptability to mission evolutions), new hardware and software solution have been studied for control &amp; command, including stabilisation and pointing functions. Promoted technologies are those of industrial computers, ground networks, free software and, over all, Ada language, for they are open, standard, powerful, low-cost and long-lasting solutions. After a brief description of domain-oriented characteristics of the stabilised gondola control &amp; command, this paper introduces the various technologies and main design principles proposed to meet system-level goals. Then focus is put on on-board architectures: full Ada95 real-time distributed applications on an Ethernet-IP LAN of industrial PCs running Linux, and describes the prototyping work and preliminary development done to ensure feasibility. The paper then discusses the applicability of such solutions to global, ground-to-board, distributed control &amp; command applications, through an IP-based telemetry &amp; telecommand link, such as the one under development in CNES for balloon systems. As a conclusion, this paper shows how adoption of these technologies for other space programs such as satellite platforms and payloads may change design, development costs, duration and organisation, as well as it may open new ways in ground-to-board communication and spacecraft operation.
