Three-dimensional measurement, in relation to the human form, is reviewed and a need is perceived for a workstation which is capable of gathering three-dimensional data around an object such as a limb. A new device is presented to fill this measurement niche. Incorporating an instrumented spatial linkage and a stand-alone microcomputer, the device is portable and programmable. Technical and clinical trials indicate its accuracy and working volume are appropriate for anthropometric applications.
