Abstract:
The 1995 appearance of Microsoft's Bob interface directly poses the question of how anthropomorphic the human computer interface design should be. A historical approach to the question offers three important observations to designers: 1) that the impulse to anthropomorphicize technology has been longstanding and has been employed with artifacts other than computers; 2) that the normal evolution of technologies proceeds through an introductory phase during which a culture becomes acclimatized to the new technology; moreover, one of the methods by which cultures have traditionally become acclimatized to new technologies is through anthropomorphization; and 3) the perception of anthropomorphism in the human computer interface has been complicated by the fact that “computers” were, in fact, first people not machines. An historical approach to answering the interface design question posed by Microsoft's Bob interface suggests that designers productively accommodate the longstanding human impulse to anthropomorphicize new technologies.

Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB) is a dangerous disease for rice plants. This disease can attack in every phase of growth. Calculation of BLB disease attack intensity is currently still done manually. Technology development in estimating the intensity of BLB disease is very necessary. This study aims to establish the equation for estimating BLB disease intensity using a thermal image approach. Drone DJI Inspire 1 with a thermal camera DJI Zenmuse XT was used in this research. Processing data using software Agisoft Photoscan, Arcgis 10.3 and Microsoft Excel. From the results of the thermal image analysis, it was found that the equation for estimating attack intensity is y = 4.9533x-144.42 and estimation accuracy is high at 90,45% with an error value of 8,43%. Temperature of the canopy can be classified into four according to the intensity of the attack, namely 29,83-31,84oC for mild attack intensity, 31,85-34,39oC for moderate attack intensity, 34,40-43,52oC for intensity of severe attacks and 43,53-48,09oC for intensity of puso attacks. From these results it can be concluded that the thermal image approach can be used to estimate BLB disease attacks on rice plants.

Abstract:
Predicting the outcome of sales opportunities is a core part of successful business management. Conventionally, undertaking this prediction has relied mostly on subjective human evaluations in the process of sales decision-making. In this paper, we addressed the problem of forecasting the outcome of Business to Business (B2B) sales by proposing a thorough data-driven Machine-Learning (ML) workflow on a cloud-based computing platform: Microsoft Azure Machine-Learning Service (Azure ML). This workflow consists of two pipelines: (1) An ML pipeline to train probabilistic predictive models on the historical sales opportunities data. In this pipeline, data is enriched with an extensive feature enhancement step and then used to train an ensemble of ML classification models in parallel. (2) A prediction pipeline to use the trained ML model and infer the likelihood of winning new sales opportunities along with calculating optimal decision boundaries. The effectiveness of the proposed workflow was evaluated on a real sales dataset of a major global B2B consulting firm. Our results implied that decision-making based on the ML predictions is more accurate and brings a higher monetary value.

Abstract:
The existence of lysosomes and acid hydrolase activity was demonstrated in an in vitro blood–brain barrier (BBB) model comprising primary cultures of bovine brain microvessel endothelial cell (BMEC) monolayers. BMEC lysosomes were observed by the uptake of acridine orange and fluorophore-labeled acetylated low-density lipoprotein by fluorescence microscopy. Cytochemical localization of the acid hydrolase, sulfatase, and acid phosphatase (AcP) activities with light microscopy also revealed hydrolase-positive vacuoles or lysosomes that varied in number from cell to cell. BMEC monolayers were fractionated and biochemical assays of the sulfatase, AcP, and β-galactosidase were performed. Significant activities of the acid hydrolases were found to be associated with lysosome and microsome fractions (69–77%). The majority of β-galactosidase (≈48%) and total sulfatase (≈58%) activity was associated with the lysosome fraction of the BMECs. In contrast, ≈52% of AcP activity was associated with the microsome fraction of the cells. The results of this study are consistent with the demonstration in vivo of acid hydrolases as potential factors in the endocytic pathway for transport of proteins through the BBB and as contributors to the BBB's enzymatic barrier function.

Wahlgren, Johansson Alexander, and Emilie Löfquist. Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Informationssystem, 2014. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-217126.

Full text
Abstract:
IT-systems can be divided into two distinct groups, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Best of Breed (BoB) systems. An ERP-system is defined as a system where a number of functions are brought together and use a common database, in order to link different IT-systems. It makes it easier to access data within the organization from the users own workstation without looking through several different systems, compared to systems that work in parallel and do not collect data in a common database. BoB-systems are geared towards a specific service and are developed to be able to perform their tasks as good as possible. They are focused on their specific tasks and are not joined together through a common database, since there are different developers or vendors for the different systems. When a company is going to invest in a system there are many aspects to consider, for example whether the expected value will exceed the associated development and operating costs, and/or which system will increase the efficiency of the tasks the most. This thesis presents a case study done at Swedbank Robur AB, Sweden’s largest fund management company. The case study was carried out with the aim to find central aspects and problems with different IT-environments and the choice of systems in relation to these. Three persons with different positions and work tasks were interviewed at Robur, to give their individual opinions and a good overall picture of their system environment. A more general interview was also carried out with Microsoft’s development manager to achieve comparability with other systems and users. This thesis shows that it is not possible for large companies to only use ERP-systems, when certain functionality is specific to the company. We have also seen that the concept of ERP is very vague and can be interpreted in different ways. It is also concluded that the definition of ERP is very vauge and can thus be interpreted in several ways.

Abstract:
The majority of cloud storage platforms rely on a centralized structure, with the most popular being Microsoft Azure. Centralization causes consumers to rely on the provider to maintain accessibility and security of data. However, platforms such as Storj.io are based on a decentralized structure. To become decentralized, Storj.io uses blockchain technology in a means to create an automated consensus mechanism between the entities storing the data. There is however little research regarding performance and security issues on a decentralized platform based on blockchain technology. The purpose of this study is to identify the beneficial and non-beneficial aspects of using blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage as a substitute for centralized ones. The study focuses on performance and security. A comparative case study has been executed, consisting of an experiment and literature study. Quantitative data from an experiment was used in a hypothesis test to determine whether there were any performance differences between Microsoft Azure Blob Storage and Storj.io. A literature study generating qualitative data was then made to identify differences in security measures and from that also discuss potential security risks on a service like Storj.io. This study found that the performance of Storj.io was lower than Microsoft Azure’s Blob Storage. Causes of these results were identified to be due to the many more steps during resource allocation in Storj.io, compared to Blob Storage. Security risks identified in Storj.io through the literature study were generally connected to the consensus mechanism. However, research shows that it is very unlikely for the consensus mechanism to be compromised. Because Microsoft Azure’s service does not use a blockchain, these risks do not exist. For secure data transfer to Azure’s service, consumers have to implement encryption manually client-side. Therefore, this study could not conclude whether Storj.io is a safe alternative because a consumer using the Microsoft Azure service is responsible for implementing security measures. Conclusions drawn from this study are intended to act as new knowledge in the field of blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage. It is an outset to decide whether to use centralized cloud storage or blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage from a performance and security perspective.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of the project was to investigate how a chatbot, based on the swedish version of Microsoft Bot Framework handles language based varieties of the users questions. This is to provide an overview of how Microsoft Bot Framework works. Method In order to answer the issues and thereby fulfill the purpose of the report, a case study based on the information on parts of the information that was available on the web page for The Courts of Sweden.. A qualitative, experimental study was made where the intelligence in Microsoft Bot Framework’s chatbot technology was tested within the categories of misspelled words, use of synonyms, randomised word order and added contextual and emotional phrases. The research began with the development of two artefacts, one question collecting web crawler and an alternative chatbot, GORCh, that entirely lacks the intelligence that the test should cover. Apart from GORCh, a human respondent was also brought in. These two were used to demonstrate the human intelligence, providing a tool to show whether Microsoft Bot Framework has it. Later, questions and their earlier mentioned variations where created using GORCh and subsequently asked to all respondents. Finally, the answers were analyzed in order to answer the issues. Result There were no case where Microsoft Bot Framework acted in the way expected if it would’ve had intelligence. Hence, the test cannot show any case where such intelligence is used for the cases tested for. Implications It is fully possible to compensate for many of these cases, for example by entering more questions or using Microsofts other tools. This does, however, require manual work from the one who implements a chatbot built on Microsoft Bot framework.. Limitations The test was only done on Microsofts Swedish chatbot service. It does not cover intelligence in any other language. The test only covers questions to a chatbot that is limited to answering one specific subject.

Abstract:
It has previously been shown that the quality of the onboarding process affects the chances of a new hire staying at a company, yet it is common that companies have problems in succeeding to maintain a well-organized onboarding. To aid new hires in their onboarding, and to lower the amount of work for the HR personnel, chatbots can be used. In this project, a chatbot was developed for the onboarding process of a large company. Interviews were held with new hires and HR personnel which were used to create requirements for the chatbot. These were divided into two categories; information and functional requirements. A third category, non-functional requirements, was created based on Microsoft’s guidelines for development of conversational AI. Based on the requirements, a chatbot prototype was built using Microsoft Bot Framework with the use of two cognitive services, LUIS and QnA Maker. Both the requirements and the prototype were created iteratively. The information that the interview participants requested from the chatbot was eitherpractical or personal information, or information about the employer, the internal systems, or other employees. It was revealed that the chatbot mainly needed to answer simple questions and didn’t demand any procedural conversation flow which made the use of QnA Maker appropriate. However, for questions and tasks that would benefit or require a procedural flow QnA Maker’s follow-up prompts could be used in future work to create multi-turn conversations.

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes the possibilities of applying the cloud concepts in the realization of the interoperable electronic business of traffic and transport subjects. Special attention is paid to defining the Business-to-Business (B2B) model of integrating the traffic business subjects in cloud computing technological environment. It describes the design, implementation, and application of the cloud concepts on the examples of B2B integration in the field of traffic. The examples demonstrate the usage of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) by traffic business subjects in the Republic of Serbia. The examples of PaaS are the databases created and hosted on Microsoft SQL Azure platform. The examples of SaaS are Web services hosted on Microsoft Windows Azure platform. The defined model of B2B integration allows interoperability of the traffic business subjects on the syntactic, conceptual, and semantic level.

Abstract:
Gait training is a rehabilitation process which helps patients improve their ability to walk or stand. Current gait training methods require patients to be in hospitals or rehabilitation facilities to acquire data on their recovery progress; there is no method of monitoring patient’s walking pattern continuously. Patients can fall into bad habits when they are not with their physician. Assisted Mobility Gait Training System is a redesigned walker that wirelessly provides data to patients and healthcare professionals throughout the rehab process. With continuous monitoring of data, patients can obtain live feedback about their walking pattern when they are outside a hospital setting. Assisted Mobility Gait Trainer combines tele-medicine and out-patient monitoring to improve the gait rehabilitation process. Portability and ease of use allows the device to be used as an outpatient monitoring tool decreasing recovery time and healthcare visitations. Data acquisition and progress monitoring are achieved through load cells and a Microsoft Kinect 2 that collects data regarding the patient’s gait. Imaging arrays within the Microsoft Kinect 2, including an RGB camera, infrared emitter, and depth sensor, monitor limb trajectories. Angle of rotation of each joint is obtained through the use of blob detection and trigonometry, specifically a variation of the dot product. Use of the camera, load cells, and wheel encoder ensures there is minimal set up time, other than turning on the system. Four load cells in each leg measure the force applied to the gait trainer, which allows physicians to identify if the patient is utilizing one leg more than the other, as well as determining if the patient becomes less reliant on the walker over time. Gait speed and distance traveled during use is measured by a wheel encoder. Data collected is sent into cloud storage where it is processed and saved. Saved data is then electronically communicated to the healthcare professional and the patient in two separate user interfaces. Healthcare professionals are able to help patients gage their rehabilitation progress more efficiently. Patients benefit by receiving feedback regarding their gait while they are not at a rehab facility, which assists against patients falling into of bad habits during the rehabilitation process.
