Abstract:
When working with software development in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 applications as an independent solution vendor (ISV) with more than a few products in the portfolio, the number of applications/installations to support the processes tends to be vast. Annata and To-Increase are both ISVs and face this situation; To-Increase for example has about 50 environments for one single version of Dynamics AX. Change is inevitable in the software industry, regardless if the need originates from new features, bug fixes or change requests from customers; it requires modifications to existing products. Uncontrolled changes to the products must be avoided and any modifications should be introduced without affecting existing functionality. This thesis investigates how two ISVs work with Dynamics AX and the existing tool Development Center and suggests improvements to the Software Configuration Management. The most beneficial change suggested is to create a single repository within the existing tool across the applications.

Abstract:
The main concern of this thesis is to analyze the ERP system MS Dynamics AX from a different perspective than is perceived by most general users. This work deals with the description of a programming environment in which the system changes are being developed. Describes the basic technologies it uses and tools to support developers in their everyday work. It also emphasizes the fundamental rules without which any changes in the system are rather counterproductive and would therefore not lead to the desired result. The practical part is focused on a business case of development of a single application. It is a sample example from practice which describes the lifecycle of the application, from the initial definition through the analysis and development, till installation and usage. The thesis is finished by the conclusion which contains a summary of the most important points which should be reader aware of after reading and understanding this thesis.

Abstract:

Abstract:
ERP systems are useful for MTS and ATO manufacturing strategies. When evaluating the ERP systems in an ETO environment there is not much research available on the matter, but the general understanding is that ERP system lacks specific business processes that are special to companies in the sector. In addition, the few studies that are available on the subject conclude that there is need for more empirical studies. By conducting a thorough literature study on the topics ERP, ETO, and project life-cycle processes, information was gathered and used for creating a survey and interview questions. All the questions were based on how companies handled the business processes that were considered critical in an ERP solution for ETO companies. The companies that participated in the case study were in the maritime and offshore ETO segment and they were currently using the ERP software Microsoft Dynamics AX. The results from the surveys are a contribution to the empirical study this specific area of research needs. During the evaluation of the current solutions there were areas where AX was not sufficient at all, areas where AX needed extra functionality, and areas where AX was sufficient. Where AX was not performing up to standards, new software had been implemented and most often integrated with AX. Industry specific requirements had also been included as new, customizable functionality in AX. This extra functionality was very important because of the focus on a specific industry. In conclusion, the findings from the case studies were used to generate requirements that represented real needs to be fulfilled by an eventual solution. The general solution was therefore based on a combination of “best-practice” solutions from all three cases. Benefits of the solution were also identified.

Abstract:
The usage of the cloud is rapidly increasing and is something that is of large interest to everyone involved in technology. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the benefits and possible shortcomings of using Microsoft Dynamics AX in the cloud, specifically Microsoft Azure, instead of using local datacenters. This thesis project has been done at Scania IT using their implementation of Dynamics AX. This thesis project consists of an extensive literature study regarding both ERP Systems as well as other systems in regards to the cloud. It was decided early on to focus on the new version of Dynamics AX, which currently is only available in the cloud and compare this implementation to the two versions that the majority are using today, AX 2009 and AX 2012. The benefits of AX and Azure both being Microsoft products are clear with the welldesigned integrations and support all the way through the clients to the servers regarding backups and load balancing. It is shown how the developers have to work differently in regards to integrations with outside systems, especially in regards to AX 2009 with the frameworks having changed. The addition of Data Entities mean that the developers can save a lot of time by only needing a reference to the location of the object in the database instead of having to keep track of all the tables themselves. The analysis focuses on the differences in four different areas, performance & accessibility, scalability, cost savings as well as security & privacy. The background knowledge that is being used for the analysis primarily comes from the literature study as well as knowledge gained by studying the implementation at Scania today. The result shows that there are clear advantages regarding performance, cost savings and especially accessibility, however it is also clear that laws in a lot of countries still have not caught up with the fact that it is possible to use the cloud for data storage these days. Which in turn means that the best move in the near future for the majority of ERP users would be either a hybrid or private cloud within the borders of the same country.

Abstract:
The thesis examines the new version of the Enterprise Resource Planning system, Microsoft Dynamics AX R2 2012, along with its platform Commerce Runtime and analyze them from the perspectives of architecture and communication possibilities. The thesis is looking into the system architecture and implements three methods to demonstrate the communication between the system components. The study of the system architecture is limited to the areas of the system and platform that are connected to the Retail solution. The study goes hand in hand with the implementation. The implementation is being done alongside the study to ensure its correctness. The report describes three different methods of communication. Synch Service synchronizes the Dynamics AX database with the Commerce Runtime database. SQL-adapter is used to retrieve the synchronized data from the Commerce Runtime database. Real-Time Service calls the exposed methods in Dynamics AX from an external client. Based on the evaluation; Synch Service is useful when a lot of data is being updated routinely. Real-Time Service is useful when data is to be handled in a number of specific ways and when calculations of data are needed to return a dynamically generated response.

Abstract:
Historically, system integration of ERP system and other existing IT systems within anorganization has always been a complex challenge, both technically and organizationally. Inmany cases, the budget for system integration corresponds 30-40% of the whole IT budget.Since system integration accounts for a large part of the cost during acquisitions andimplementation of an ERP system, companies are interested in the challenges that exist duringsystem integration, to simplify the integration process and hence reduce the costs. Tounderstand the challenges, a case study at Company X has been performed. The ERP systeminvestigated in the case study is Microsoft Dynamics AX.The purpose with this study is to investigate challenges that exist in large organizations duringsystem integration of ERP system and other IT systems that exist in the organization andthereby understand how integration can be developed in a more efficient way.The study entails an extensive literature study and two rounds of data collection throughqualitative interviews. The results showed that the challenges that exist at Company X are mainly organizational.Technical challenges coexist but they have a much less significant impact than theorganizational challenges. This can be explained by that there has been a heavier focus onsolving the technical related problems and maybe to some extent neglected the impactorganizational problems can have on system integration. Possible actions includes centralstrategy concerning how to work with Dynamics AX, it’s growth and future initiatives, policies and framework regarding working methods, increased authority and decision rights tothe group working with AX as well as minimize customizations and own development.

Abstract:
The development in information systems has led to an increasing number ofbusinesses wishing to digitize their work processes. The growing mobile use ofEnterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on devices such as smartphones andtablets has led businesses to place greater demands on their information systems andsuppliers of these. ERP system in the future must be able to function mobile andfacilitate the work for the employees instead of being another IT system that will solvethe organisation's all challenges. This case study was made at a wholesale company in Skåne, which was in the midstof an ERP implementation with Microsoft Dynamics. This study has investigated howthe work with business processes looked before and during the implementation of thenew system. The background to the case study was to investigate whether there wereany correlation between how well the business processes were evaluated, adapted andhow successful the business's ERP implementation was. The case study aims toinvestigate how process modeling and Business Process Management (BPM) cansupport this kind of implementation of mobile ERP systems. The activity in the study is a mediumsizedsales and distribution company withoffices in 4 Swedish locations. In 2015, the business began digitizing the entireorganization. The IT system consisted of several different systems that had beenadapted over time to fit the needs of the organisation. As part of the implementation, they chose to use a Business Process Modeling tool to introduce the system and trainthe users of the processes in the new system. The implementation phase of the projectbegan in February 2017 and in February 2019 the business still has not set a Golivedate. The average time for an ERP implementation is 17.4 months [5]. Since theGolivedate business has been moved, it is now considered that the operation'simplementation is delayed and over the average time. The work on the processes before the actual start of the project is perceived asinadequate from BPM, the conclusion is drawn that the delay of the "Go live date" ispartly due to the fact that the company and the organization have not analyzed theirown processes and have relied too much on the consulting company and RapidValueBPM to handle learning and implementation.

Since a decade ago, to reinforce the country’s big strategy, “industrialization and modernization”, Vietnamese Government is much expected from ICT because considerable international attention has been given to the role that ICT can play in economic, social and educational change. ICT is high on education, administration and business reform agenda in Viet Nam. Viet Nam Tobacco Corporation (VINATABA) is not an exception in this trend. One of priority objectives of VINATABA’s Development Strategy 2011-2015, vision to 2020 is apply ICT for human resource management reform due to expanding its achievements after 25 years of restructuring and development as General Corporation. In VINATABA’s 2010 Plan, Microsoft Dynamics is suggested to use. The purpose of this study is identifying difficult factors (policy, planning, budget, service, knowledge and skills of managers and staffs...) on applying Human Resource Management in Microsoft Dynamics AX in VINATABA for an effective use of the suggested software. Document review and qualitative method with in-depth interview and focus group dialogue are combined to complete the three main research tasks: 1/ Overview Government’s vision and strategy relate to ICT integration and VINATABA’s achievements and development strategy as the research rationales. 2/ Define key concepts (HRM, HRMS) and review the benefits of human resource (HR), human resource management (HRM) and human resource management system (HRMS), including competence management to organizations; 3/Conduct interview and organize focus group dialogue to explore difficult factors that can impact to ICT application, as well as the VINATABA’s leaders and managers need to recognize. Besides “inner or subjective difficulties”, seven major difficult factors (relating to policies, planning, financial investment, IT staffs’ qualification and training, organization system and services, software tool and competence management’s knowledge and skills) are presented as findings from exploratory analysis on data. A significant gap is observed between rhetoric in policy/development strategy guidelines and practice of integration of ICT. Some appropriate recommendations/implications for effective applying the suggested software in VINATABA are given.
