Why the computer works even slower and with various failures and failures. Moreover, the specified percentage may also be even higher, since 8.6% of students could not answer what OS they have installed. Studying in the traditional form of training, this lack of hardware and SOFTWARE is eliminated, since in the University’s computer classes, there are PCs that support reliable operation with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2010 and are protected from viruses and attacks by installed and constantly updated antivirus programs. The article reveals the problems that affect the quality of students’ education when switching to distance learning. Namely, the absence or non-compliance of Hardware and SOFTWARE for students’ computers and laptops with modern requirements for Hardware and SOFTWARE for performing teachers’ tasks. The author concludes that when switching to full distance education in technical specialties, the state will lose, according to the most optimistic forecasts, from 19.8 to 69.7% of well-prepared students only because their education does not meet modern requirements.

Software as a Service neboli on-demand. Primárním cílem této diplomové práce je přispět k rozvoji teoretické základny modelů Software as s Service s hlavním zaměřením na oblast kancelářských aplikací pro segment malých a středně velkých firem.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractWhen a public sector organisation (PSO) uses a software as a service (SaaS) solution from a global provider this imposes risks for different types of lock-in effects. In turn, use of such solutions by PSOs may prevent full control of digital assets that need to be created, processed, maintained, and archived for use and reuse over long life-cycles. This paper addresses perceived and actual lock-in effects related to use of SaaS solutions in the public sector. We review perceptions of lock-in amongst government agencies and investigate how 46 PSOs have addressed challenges related to obtaining licences and an effective exit plan related to use of the Microsoft Office 365 SaaS solution. Through a review of responses to a survey conducted by the Swedish Government Offices we find significant misconceptions concerning lock-in effects. We find that every one of the 46 PSOs investigated neither obtained necessary licences nor established an effective exit strategy to allow the PSO to independently access, process and maintain digital assets processed by the SaaS solution after decommissioning. We present recommendations for any PSO considering use of a SaaS solution.

Abstract:
AbstractWord processing software evolved from rudimentary yet highly specialized tools for programmers in the early 1960s into very sophisticated but user-friendly PC applications for the general public in the 1980s and early 1990s. The history of word processing—from debugging code on teleprinter terminals in computer labs to authoring everyday documents on personal computers with graphical user interfaces—is therefore also the story of how computing technology came to the masses and how it transformed our concepts, instruments, and practices of writing. This is the first of three chapters on word processing covering the initial stage of the development. It gives a summary of the early ideas and technologies that would eventually lead to the ubiquitous writing tools available for PCs, laptops and other mobile devices today. The beginnings of word processing, however, were not as smooth as modern applications may suggest. A large set of technological innovations in both hardware and software, conceptual shifts concerning writing and novel business strategies for the computing business were needed to finally realize today’s paradigm of digital writing. The chapter’s historical account ends around 1990 with the emergence of Microsoft Word for Windows as the de facto industry standard for word processing.

Abstract:
AbstractCollaborative writing has been greatly stimulated by digital technologies, particularly by word processors that have made it easy for co-authors to exchange and edit texts and also led to the development of many experimental tools for collaborative, synchronous writing. When the world wide web was established, the arrival of wikis was hailed with great enthusiasm as an opportunity for joint knowledge creation and publishing. Later, cloud-based computer systems provided another powerful access to collaborative text production. The breakthrough for synchronous collaborative writing was the release of Google Docs in 2006, a browser-based word processor offering full rights to up to a hundred users for synchronous access to a virtual writing space. Next to its easy accessibility, it was the free offer of Google Docs that opened this new chapter of writing technology to a broader audience. When Microsoft and Apple followed with their own online versions, collaborative writing became an established standard of text production. In this chapter, we trace back what collaboration through writing means and then look at the new opportunities and affordances of collaborative writing software. Finally, we briefly recount the impact of early technologies before we settle on the current generation of collaborative writing tools.

Abstract:
The authors traced the process of revising and updating a long-existing Micro-Based Software class at the undergraduate level at Metropolitan State College of Denver. The course was designed to allow students to become proficient in end user computing at the operational business level. The revisions were prompted by the increasing sophistication of horizontal microcomputer application programs, the increase in the level of computer literacy among undergraduate School of Business students, and the students’ need for experience in problem solving and applying the theory they learned using the Microsoft Office software suite. A pilot class was taught utilizing the revised curriculum in the Fall of 2001. The revised curriculum involved using Web-based material and regular presentation sessions for solutions to assigned problems. An efficacy survey was administered at the end of the class, to determine student satisfaction with the revised curriculum. The success of the pilot class resulted in implementing the revised content in all sections of the Micro-Based Software class as of Spring semester, 2002.

Abstract:
Most thermal engineers will model and analyze thermal engineering cases, using any of the numerous thermal analysis software, available in the market. These commercial software need years of continuous use to be fully mastered. Large companies can afford to acquire expensive software available in the market and train their engineers; but small companies do not have the financial means to acquire such expensive software. Thus for modeling and analysis, small companies or private practice need a different alternative. Excel is one of the programs that come with Microsoft Office suite of software, which is installed on any purchased computer. Most users of Microsoft office are proficient in using Word, and can use Excel as a spread sheet to speed up calculations. Technical personnel can easily use the charting capability of Excel, but very few engineers can use Excel for intensive Numerical Analysis. Engineers should be able to use the available inexpensive Excel software to perform numerical analysis at their work place. In this article three Heat Transfer Numerical cases using Microsoft Excel are discussed in detail. the first case is two dimensional steady state heat transfer with different isothermal boundary conditions. The second shows other boundary conditions: uniform heat flux, adiabatic, and convection. The third case is transient conditions. The results from the three cases are compared with results from Patran Thermal software.

Abstract:
iSIGHT-FD manages the computer software required to execute simulation-based design processes, including commercial CAD/CAE software, internally developed programs, and Excel spreadsheets. The software enables the rapid integration of these programs and automates their execution to accelerate the evaluation of many more design alternatives. It provides design exploration and optimization technology to help the user find better designs than those that can be found manually. Inside of this framework, a set of interoperable CAD and CAE components is used to define how changes in the geometry affect the product performance. In the past year Engineous worked with several of its partners to create a seamless and automated process. We will illustrate how to setup and drive geometric changes in CAD models using the translation technologies component in iSIGHT-FD. The user can set loads & boundary conditions on the part/assembly that move with the geometric modifications. The changed geometry with loads & boundary conditions can be automatically meshed and analyzed with FEM solvers and pre/postprocessors. The user is allowed to store and view parametric and non-parametric results for every run. These 3D CAE & CAD results can then be easily embedded into Microsoft office.

Abstract:
During Covid-19 pandemic ICT industry grew rapidly. This situation led to some positive aspects for teaching. Such technologies as virtual conference and classroom software made distant learning more possible than ever before. Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art of University of Latvia started further education courses in ICT for in-service teachers in June 2022. There were 3 pilot groups with 54 participants in total. A new program was developed according to the new curriculum of ICT subject in schools. Using the previously collected experience of distant teaching during Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided to use Microsoft Teams, Moodle and open source software to provide courses. Courses consisted of practical usage and teaching methodology of office, programming, media, computer graphics and web site development. The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of distant learning using the hands-on approach. The analysis of literature presented expectations of good results for adult teaching in subjects not demanding special equipment or laboratories. It was found that it was economy of resources such as time, money and special classrooms. The target group was in-service teachers with pedagogical experience, learning to become teachers of ICT. Both sides: teachers and participants were warned to use the computer with at least 2 screens and a good quality internet connection. Teaching materials and assessments were placed in the Moodle system. Practices and trainings were recorded for later usage and study. Results of participants’ questionnaire showed that courses were highly rated. In addition, results of final report assessment were highly rated by teachers. As conclusion, it revealed that distant teaching for adults in the ICT field using hands-on approach has a high value from the viewpoint of participants and teachers and it is useful to provide next courses using the approach described in this research.

Abstract:
WebRTC (Web Real-Time-Communications) enable blended learning in universities and support the "virtual universities". In these "cloud universities", equipment vendors can also integrate their "laboratories as a service". The paper presents a Demonstrator platform based on Unify Circuit WebRTC integrated with other web-based applications that are exposing APIs and dedicated to simple browsers on "thin clients". Keywords: WebRTC; eLearning platform; real-time communications; virtual classroom INTRODUCTION The eLearning platforms are starting to compete with traditional learning resource centres and enable the so-called "virtual universities" to offer a big range of specializations. Also, for their certification programs, most vendors offer for training purpose virtual laboratories "as-a-service" (e.g. Cisco, Microsoft, VMware), but most of them are self-paced, so they miss the advantage of real-time communication and interaction with the teacher and other students, compared to the traditional hands-on teacher-led courses and workshops. Most course providers are having their own implementations and methods for deploying personalized laboratory lessons, difficult to integrate with course content from other providers. To solve these challenges, we propose a solution based on WebRTC (Web Real-Time-Communications) suggest a standard method to integrate real-time communications with heterogeneous course resources at web level. The eLearning platforms become easily accessible from the browser without the need of any plug-in or any dedicated client (then, from any "thin client"), having all the communication back-end running in the cloud. Not only the usage of the platform is facile, but having all components web implemented, standardized by W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), allows the integration with a big number of web-based applications that are exposing APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) in order to create complex personalized learning environments as simple web applications. As illustrative examples for integration with WebRTC features we could mention office suites like MS Office 365 or Moodle implementations. Unified communications and mobile office concepts can be extrapolated to the virtual classroom concept with features like voice, video, chat, on-demand ad-hoc assistance, content share, online laboratories and a lot of curricula related features (already part of Moodle). THE DEMONSTRATOR PLATFORM For our implementation demonstrator at DEC - Department of Electronics and Computers, presented in the paper, we have chosen Circuit, the webRTC framework offered by Unify, which offers different Software Development Kits for JavaScript, node.js and RESTful API, and also allows free-of-charge invitations for real-time communication guest users.

Full text
Abstract:
This study reviewed the state of the art and practice in bridge element deterioration / improvement modeling. It also developed a new and practical method for such modeling using element quantities in BrM inspection records along with bridge age. For reliable forecasting, this method uses these quantities directly to determine transition probability matrices (TPMs). The example TPMs were found age-dependent for the do-nothing case. Results show that this approach is effective in forecasting the bridge element life. Condition improvement TPMs were also similarly derived from the quantity evolution for consistency. Examples of renewal construction work are deck overlay of micro-silica concrete, steel beam repainting, bridge cleaning, etc. Two computer software programs in Microsoft Excel were developed to obtain TPMs for do-nothing deterioration and condition improvement. Bridge owners may use the tools to generate TPMs for any element whose inspection records are provided. As a result, TPMs can be continuously updated whenever more inspections are performed and their records are included as input to the software programs. In addition, the software tools are transparent for the user to perform expert elicitation, especially when the inspection records are questionable or unavailable. Such activity can be informatively guided by the results from the software, as illustrated by two application examples in the delivered programs. This new concept and associated tools may be applied by other bridge owners using the BrM system. Two application examples for elements 12 and 107 in the programs can be readily transplanted to other states as a starting point for application of the research products herein. They show that the age-dependent TPM is able to realistically replicate deterioration for the do-nothing case, particularly the behavior of faster deterioration while aging. They also demonstrate that TPMs for different renewal construction work are able to contrast their effectiveness, such as micro-silica overlays vs. sealing for a concrete deck.
