Abstract:
In this paper, hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) and losartan potassium (LSP) in tablets are simultaneously determined with UV-Vis spectrophotometry and chemometrics without separation. The spectra of standard and sample solutions were recorded in the wavelength from 220 to 300 nm at 1.0 nm intervals. The concentrations of HCT and LSP in the sample solutions were computed with the Kalman filter algorithm written on the Microsoft Excel 2016 and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) platform. The method validation was determined via the accuracy and repeatability of measurements when analyzing HCT and LSP in the Splozarsin Plus tablet and comparing the mean values of their contents in the sample with those analyzed with HPLC. The proposed method is simple with a low cost compared with the standard HPLC method.

Abstract:
Polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers (OMEn) are frequently discussed as alternative diesel fuels, with various synthesis routes considered. OME3–5 syntheses demand significant amounts of thermal energy due to the complex separation processes that they entail. Therefore, innovative process designs are needed. An important tool for the development of new processes is process simulation software. To ensure sound process simulations, reliable physico-chemical models and component property data are necessary. Herein we present the implementation of a state-of-the-art thermodynamic model to describe the component systems of formaldehyde-water and formaldehyde-methanol using Microsoft® Excel (2010, Microsoft Corp, Redmond, WA, USA) and Aspen Plus®, (V8.8, Aspen Tech, Bedford, MA, USA) determine the deviation between the calculated results and experimental literature data, and minimize the deviation by means of parameter fitting. To improve the accuracy of the estimation of the missing property data of hemiformals and methylene glycols formed from formaldehyde using group contribution methods, the normal boiling points were estimated based on molecular analogies. The boiling points of OME6-10 are determined through parameter regression in accordance with the vapor pressure equation. As an application example, an optimization of the product separation of the state-of-the-art formaldehyde synthesis is presented that helps decrease the losses of methanol and formaldehyde in flue gas and wastewater.

Abstract:
Electron microscopy has a pivotal role as an analytical tool in pharmaceutical research. However, digital image data have proven to be too large for efficient quantitative analysis. We describe here the development and application of an automated image processing (AIP) program that rapidly quantifies shape measurements of recombinant adenovirus (rAd) obtained from digitized field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) images. The program was written using the macro-recording features within Image-Pro® Plus software. The macro program, which is linked to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, consists of a series of subroutines designed to automatically measure rAd vector objects from the FESEM images. The application and utility of this macro program has enabled us to rapidly and efficiently analyze very large data sets of rAd samples while minimizing operator time.

Cristy, John Oliver. "VText: A Plug-in Extension to Add Electronic Textbook Functionality to Microsoft OneNote." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/25154.

Full text
Abstract:
Electronic textbooks are different from ebooks (electronic books) in that they allow the user to go beyond just reading material on a computer screen. Electronic textbooks encourage the user to accomplish all of the operations typically performed with a hardcopy text in addition to some functions not possible with paper books. With electronic textbooks users can make annotations in the textbook with e-ink; mark important sections; search over the ink, the text, or even the scanned images; look up items in online dictionaries or encyclopedias; perform interactive reinforcement drills; view simulations; and many other operations afforded by the computing power of the underlying computer and the reach of the Internet connection. These operations encourage students to engage in active reading. The VText framework is designed to provide many of the desired features of an e-textbook in such a way that it produces pedagogical value rather than just convenience for students. Many so-called e-textbook solutions available today provide few features beyond those possible with hardcopy textbooks. The VText framework is built as an add-in to Microsoft's note-taking program, OneNote. The add-in provides features that facilitate the use of OneNote as a reader and as an educational tool while leaving in place OneNote's strengths in note-taking, collaboration, and search.

Along with the widespread use and application of personal computer and internet , e commerce is also booming in its application fields ,people nowadays are no longer be limited by time , space and target in the transaction method , most of the business nowadays can be completed any time and anywhere just in front of a personal computer and digitally through the transmission by internet , the transaction targets are no longer limited too . But since internet is an open network , online transaction data could possibly be transmitted by impostor or have the risk of being modified . Furthermore , both sides on transaction could possibly be not familiar with each other , it is also difficult to distinguish the reality of identity of the opposite side . The motive of this study is try to solve the above-mentioned problem , we try to develop a Digital Signature system , the currently wide-spread used Microsoft Word editor can be embedded directly in the system, therefore , user can use directly the word editor that he/she is familiar with to fill the purchase order , it can also transmit the purchase order to customer’s email box through its existed e-mail system ,moreover , email receiver could perform ID check and content examination to make sure the purchase order has not been transmitted by impostor or modified , in the future , if there is any controversy of the reality of the purchase order between both sides , the digital signature on the purchase order can be used to judge which side is right.

We have entered an era in technology where the web is now a required commodity, space is limited, privacy is crucial and above all software cannot continue to run independent and on premises. Have you ever wondered when you will be able to store and access all our information on the internet securely and cost-effectively? Well combining the best of the two worlds, software and services, has come to the rescue for businesses and individuals alike. For security or privacy reasons, for business differentiating purposes that require exquisitely detailed customization or even for the purposes of the peace of mind of knowing where applications and data reside software will always have unique benefits over a services model. At the same time, we cannot discount the many benefits of services. These benefits include the ability to deliver solutions readily planet wide and the flexibility in being able to subscribe to and unsubscribe from services without having to deploy people and hardware within an organization. The purpose of this paper is to debate not whether enterprises will run software or services but how they may combine the best of both. The intention of this paper is also to analyze the user benefits and value of Microsoft’s Software-Plus-Services, specifically Microsoft’s branded Windows Azure developing platform for the sky. "Software-Plus-Services" is an industry wide term that unites software-as-a-service, service-oriented development, and Web 2.0. It offers more flexibility than a software-only or services-only approach. For Microsoft, Software-Plus-Services is a model that combines its core packaged products with programmes hosted online.

Abstract:
Computer task performance is an essential driver of end user productivity. Recent research indicates that computer self-efficacy (CSE) is an important determinant of computer task performance. Contrary to the significant interest in understanding the role of CSE in predicting computer task performance, little attention has been given to understanding the role of personal goal (PG), which can be as powerful as or more powerful than CSE in predicting and determining computer task performance. Employing CSE and PG, the present research develops and validates a theoretical model that predicts individual computer task performance. The model was tested using PLS on data from an intensive software (Microsoft Excel) training program, in which 41 MBA students participated. Results largely support the theorized relationships of the proposed model and provide important insights into how individual motivational beliefs influence computer skill acquisition and task performance. Implications are drawn for future research and practice.

Abstract:
Web-based applications (Web services and service-oriented architectures) can be run via a Web-based browser. There are several approaches to writing such Web-based applications. A lightweight approach is suitable for hand-held devices. In this approach, a Java servlet or a JSP page (Java 2 Platform, JSP), or an ASP application (Microsoft .NET, ASP) generates HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), XHTML, or XML documents (W3C Semantic Web Activity, XHTML, XML) to be displayed by the browser. Most browsers use an anchored URLs extension (e.g., .doc, .jpg, .xml, etc.) to choose an appropriate plug-in to display the URL when it is clicked. Besides displaying text and multimedia, Web servers and/or browsers can also execute Java applets or scripting languages to read and/or change persistent data. Previously, about 98% of these data were stored in relational or object-relational databases. However, recently more of these data are being stored in XML-based documents. Often these documents have an associated “schema” declaring the nesting of tags and the types of primitive values, or an “ontology” (Everett et al., 2002, Hunter, 2003) declaring classes, attributes, and relations that are used in the document.

Abstract:
The mission of the Transmutation Research Program (TRP) at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is to establish a nuclear engineering test bed that can carry out effective transmutation and advanced reactor research and development effort. TRPSEMPro package, developed from previous project period, integrated a chemical separation code from the Argonne National Laboratories (ANL). Current research focus has two folds: development of simulation system processes applied to Spent Fuel Treatment Facility (SFTF) using ASPEN-plus and further interaction of ASPEN+ program from TRPSEMPro interface. More details will be discussed below. ANL has identified three processes simulations using their separation technologies. The first process is to separate aqueous acid streams of acetic acid, nitric acid, water and a variety of fission product nitric salts. Distillation separation method is used to remove the desired components from the streams. The second simulation is to convert plutonium nitrate to plutonium metal. Steps used for the process simulation are precipitation, calcinations, fluorination and reduction. The third process currently under development is vitrification of fission product of raffinate streams. During the process, various waste streams from the plant are mixed and fed to a process that converts them to a solid state glass phase. The vitrification process used by the Hanford and Savannah River facilities was selected as a guideline to develop the prototype simulation process using ASPEN-Plus. Current research is focusing on identifying unit operations required to perform the vitrification of the waste streams. The first two processes are near completion stage. Microsoft Visual Basic (MS VB) has been used to develop the entire system engineering model package, TRPSEMPro. Currently a user friendly interface is under development to facilitate direct execution of ASPEN-plus within TRPSEMPro. The major purpose for the implementation is to create iterative interaction among system engineering modeling, ANL separation model and ASPEN-Plus process that outputs optimized separation/process simulation results. The ASPEN-plus access interface from TRPSEMPro allows users to modify and execute process parameters derived from the ASPEN Plus simulations without navigating through ASPEN-Plus. All ASPEN-plus simulation results can be also accessible by the interface. Such integration provide a single interaction gateway for researchers interested in SFTF process simulation without struggling with complicate data manipulation and joggling among various software packages.

Abstract:
JAI has developed a simple computer program for use in determining a preliminary estimate of costs for transporting spent nuclear fuel or high-level radioactive waste by legal weight truck or by rail. The JAI Corporation Spent Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste Transportation Cost Model © is a Microsoft Excel 2000-based collection of spreadsheets. Both the truck and rail sub-models consist of three spreadsheets, or modules — as follows: • The “Input” spreadsheet accepts the user’s inputs (the user’s configuration of the transportation scenario to be modeled); • The “Cost Calculations” spreadsheet lists cost components and associated calculations; • The “Results” spreadsheet summarized the calculated transportation costs. The program does not calculate costs between two specific points, but rather over a specific distance. The individual inputs required can be entered by the user — or the user can accept the default values built into the program. The input to the program is divided into the following elements: 1. Scenario configuration; 2. Financial assumptions; 3. Capital-related costs; 4. Operating costs; 5. Freight-related costs; 6. Security-related costs. The rail portion of the program also permits the calculation of the cost of heavy haul and barge transport. The cost calculation spreadsheet contains all the algorithms used for calculating each element of cost and summing them — and the results spreadsheet shows the separate cost of capital, operations, freight, security and miscellaneous costs, plus the total cost for the shipment(s). The program offers an easy way for obtaining preliminary estimates of the cost of transporting spent fuel or high-level radioactive waste, and a way to quickly estimate the sensitivity of transport costs to changes in conditions or shipping scenarios.

Abstract:
Cimplicity is a Human-Machine interface software which acquires data from CNCs Robots and PLGs, data is then visualized on real time by an operator in a Cimplicity screen on a PC monitor. This software lets the operator perform operations, monitor and control status in a factory in an easy, natural, and intuitive way. This paper will focus on the use of Cimplicity HMI and Microsoft Excel in COMONSA, a cogeneration plant designed and installed by SEISA (International Energy Systems). The cogeneration plant is localized in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico. This plant supplies energy and, heat to a metal manufacturing factory called INMAGUSA. In this case Cimplicity acquires data from a PLC connected to two reciprocating Engines, which are responsible of supplying heat and electrical energy to the factory, and other auxiliary devices that keep the cogeneration plant running. Cimplicity transforms the data received by the PLC and then displays it on screens while it is being stored on Excel sheets in predefined time intervals. A total of 1093 variables are displayed in 70 different screens. This paper will center on the variables, screens and programs created by the authors. Screens created for the purpose of making the process of invoicing easier for SEISA, for monitoring daily kWh and monthly factory consumption. And two algorithms programmed using Microsoft Visual Basic to facilitate optimal operation of the cogeneration plant.
