In this thesis, a new set of finite element formulations are developed for computer simulation of microstructural evolution which is controlled by solid-state diffusion and grain-boundary migration. The cubic spline elements are however much more efficient numerically than the previous linear elements and make it possible to undertake large scale computer simulations of microstructur

Abstract:
The Median Tectonic Line (MTL) is a major, crustal-scale fault in Japan that separates the low-P/high-T Ryoke metamorphic belt of mainly subduction related granitoids from the high-P/low-T Sambagawa Belt of accretionary complex metasedimentary rocks. Like many large, crustal-scale faults, the MTL has a long history of movement having been active predominantly as a strike-slip fault since the mid-Cretaceous. Fault rock exposures in the core of the MTL preserve a history of deformation at a range of mid- to shallow-crustal depths. Ryoke mylonites 1-5 km north of the main contact record deeper le

Abstract:
The gold market is one of the major world markets and the Italian companies place the country as one of the major players in this sector. However, the production in these companies is mostly based on the use of artisan skills, without investing in research and studies about the production processes of these materials. In fact, often the process depends on a "craft" way of working, in which the technical and scientific knowledge are dictated more by experience than by a systematic scientific approach. The international bibliography regarding the world of machining of gold alloys is not as devel
