Abstract:
Women in modern America are living longer than ever before and society 's expectations are changing. In 1900, it was expected that most women would die in their forties or early fifties. However, with today's life expectancy of approximately 80 years. midlife is a viable component of a woman's total life course. Since midlife is an important part of the lives of today's women, this study examines the elements of well-being in midlife women over three transitional periods surrounding the half century birthday. A random sample of 1,041 midlife women, ages 34-66, living along the Wasatch Front in

Midlife women are vulnerable to developing obesity. Both sleep timing and negative emotion are risk factors, yet limited research has explored their role on weight outcomes in this population. The current investigation explored the association of sleep timing (i.e., mean sleep time, sleep time variability) and obesity (i.e., BMI, waist circumference) in midlife women, considering emotional pathways (i.e., depressive symptoms, anger) that might mediate this association. Abstract:
Before we attempt to make, or influence policy as social workers, we have to know for whom we are making, or changing, policy. The experiences of never-married and childless women in midlife are rarely recorded in the literature. Despite feminist inroads, policy and research concerning midlife women are often based on the assumption and ideology that women in this age group are married and have children. As long as marriage and the nuclear family are seen as the only route for women, those who do not choose such a path will continue to be invisible, or to be seen as deviant. In an attempt to b
