AbstractThe intent of this paper is to examine the story of Nimrod in Genesis x 8-12, offering fresh insight on both the historical background and the literary development of the passage. The article deals first with the passage's literal meaning, syntax and the extant text. The geographic context of the passage is shown to be distinctly Mesopotamian-Nimrod being the "builder" of Babylon, Erech, Accad and other southern Mesopotamian cities and then moving north to Assyria. After surveying previous attempts to identify an "historical" Nimrod, the author then suggests that the biblical figure is

Abstract This chapter provides a checklist for the family Leucospidae. It provides information on species diversity, host records, distribution records by province in Iran, as well as world distribution. Comparison of the leucospid fauna of Iran (six species) with adjacent countries shows that it has the same number of species as Turkey, followed by Russia (five species), United Arab Emirates (four species), Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan (each with three species), Armenia, Azerbaijan and Pakistan (each with two species) and Saudi Arabia (one species); no species have been recorded from Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman or Qatar. Furthermore, six species were recorded from the former USSR and if the exact localities of these species were known then the number of species from Russia and Middle Asian countries adjacent to Iran would be increased. All the species recorded from Iran are shared with Turkey, whereas five species are shared with Russia, three species with Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, and two species with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Pakistan. Four species are recorded from United Arab Emirates, none of which are yet known from Iran, but Leucospis elegans and L. vanharteni might be expected in southern Iran.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on Milii Balakirev’s role in the formation of the Russian musical Orient. It discusses how the leader of the Mighty Five and other members of his circle approached and incorporated folk melodies of Russia’s inorodtsy into their music and how some elements previously associated with the East became an inherent part of Russian musical identity. Multiple examples of musical appropriation or syncretism of Russian and eastern styles demonstrate this transition. Deep respect for the peoples living in the Caucasus, combined with Balakirev’s desire to learn about their culture and music, not only had a stimulating effect on his originality but also inspired a large number of works written by the members of his circle, which transcended the “otherness.” Toward the end of his life, Balakirev’s approach to the Orient became more complex: through his settings of oriental poems he criticized Russia’s official policies in the East and expressed his disapproval of the empire’s expansionist wars in the Caucasus.
