AbstractSome flightworthy alate exules of Aphis fabae Scopoli reproduce before taking off while others do not. This difference in behaviour is influenced by crowding and has previously been taken as an indication of the urge to migrate, although it has never been conclusively demonstrated. In this study, the flight performance of those aphids depositing some nymphs before take-off (‘flyers’) was compared with those which did not (‘migrants’). In fact, no significant difference was found between migrants and flyers in any of the aspects of post-take-off flight or settling behaviour tested. In t

Migration as a phenomenon is present in the whole history of mankind. AbstractThe relationship between animal dispersal and conspecific density has been explored in various study systems but results in terms of both the magnitude and the direction of density dependence are inconsistent. We conducted a thorough review of the literature (2000–2023) and found k = 97 empirical studies of birds, fishes, herpetofauna (amphibians and reptiles), invertebrates, or mammals that had tested for a correlation between conspecific density and animal dispersal. We extracted categorical variables for taxonomic group, sex, age, migratory behavior, study design, dispersal metric,

Distinguishing between vagrancy and regular migration has proved to be challenging as vagrants may, in theory, act as pioneers in the establishment of new migration routes. Because migratory songbirds tend to follow the same orientation and migration route throughout their lives, age assessment can help to distinguish individuals which have already used a route (i.e. adults) from those using it for the first time (i.e. juveniles). The presence of a significant proportion of adult individuals would suggest the presence of regular migrants in a vagrancy context. To decipher the status of two spe

Abstract Different sampling methods are used to study bird diversity in the tropics, mist nets being one of the most common approaches. However, camera traps have been used for this purpose in the last 20 years. We compared the performance of mist nets and camera traps in sampling the diversity of understory and sub-canopy birds in a Neotropical rainforest. Given its high biodiversity, obtaining accurate bird diversity estimates in these forests is a challenging task. We sampled secondary forest patches in the Colombian central Andes between 2019 and 2021. We compared the effectiveness of both

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis. Ubiquitination is a complex post translational modification involved in cancer progression. However, ubiquitination related genes (URGs) in immunotherapy of NPC remains largely unexplored. Methods: Differentially expressed URGs were screened based on the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset and a risk model of NPC was constructed and evaluated for prognostic significance. The oncogenic role of RNF149 in NPC was investigated through in vitro and in vivo experiments, including tumor cells, N
