Abstract:
Milch is taken from Nicolai's first solo exhibition in the UK (shown in 2001) and is a special commission for Milch's industrial space. The minimal installation is a repetition of the same groups of objects four times over. There is a CD and amplifier connected to four 9″ speaker cones by thick coils of black cable. A shallow 2 × 1 m tray containing water is placed on top of the speaker cones and sonic frequencies constantly stretch and bend the water's molecules. The surface shifts from absolute flatness through spirographic swirls to geometric grids, effects which are recorded in a series of photographs hung around the gallery.

Abstract:
The present study was conducted to know the extent participation of farm women in dairy occupation in Bharuch district of Gujarat state with sample of 120 respondents. Women are the back bone of rural economy. The prosperity and growth of nation depends on the status and development of its women as they not only constitute nearly half of the population but also positively influence the growth of remaining half of the population. Farm women were participated in many activities like; selection of milch animals, taking loan for purchase animal, purchase and sale of milch animals, feeding of milch animals, breeding of milch animals, health care of animals and utilization of milk and preparing milk products. Farm women and their participation in dairy occupation were certainly affected their efficiency in work and in the development of dairy enterprise. Majority of farm women participated in feeding the milch animals, utilization of milk and preparing milk products and breeding of milch animals.

ZusammenfassungDie Ernährungweise westlicher Industrienationen spielt eine zentrale Rolle in der Pathogenese der Adipositas. Sie ist durch ein Übermaß an hyperglykämischen Kohlenhydraten, aber auch durch einen hohen Konsum von Milch und Milchprodukten seit frühester Kindheit gekennzeichnet. Milch und Frischmilchprodukte wirken trotz ihres geringen glykämischen Index stark insulinotrop. Damit potenziert sich beim Milchgenuss in Kombination mit hyperglykämischen Kohlenhydraten die postprandiale Insulinsekretion. Die mit gesteigerter Sebozytenaktivität einhergehende und sich in Industrienationen ebenfalls epidemieartig ausbreitende Hautkrankheit Akne wurde kürzlich mit vermehrtem Konsum von Milch und hyperglykämischen Kohlenhydraten in ursächliche Verbindung gebracht. Milch darf nicht nur als Nahrungsmittel betrachtet werden, sondern als ein insulinotropes, mitogenes und anaboles Signalsystem der Säugetierevolution, das einen deutlichen Einfluss auf die somatotrope und laktogenmediierte Hormonachse sowie auf die Inkretinsekretion ausübt. Abstract:
Abstract Petroleum-transporting infrastructure can experience severe corrosion in the presence of microbial biofilms, a process termed microbially-influenced corrosion (MIC). However, not all microorganisms are corrosive and distinguishing corrosive from benign biofilms remains challenging with current technologies. In recent laboratory tests we identified two biomarkers suitable to discriminate corrosive methanogenic archaea (micH) and sulfate-reducing bacteria (micC) from their noncorrosive counterparts. In this study, we demonstrate suitability of newly developed qPCR assays, that target the specific microbial enzymes micH and micC, for field application. Water samples and pig debris were obtained from various oil-transporting pipelines that with high likelihood experienced MIC at the time of sampling as well as from pipelines without a perceived threat of MIC. Samples were analyzed with existing methods including 16S rRNA gene sequencing to identify the whole microbial community present in the samples and qPCR assays designed to enumerate total bacterial and archaeal populations. These results were compared to those obtained from the use of newly developed targeted qPCR assays for micH and micC. First we tested the novel assays on pig debris samples obtained from a North American pipeline in which active corrosion was suspected from recent in-line inspection (ILI) date. The results showed 5.6·104 gene copies of micH and 7.9·104 gene copies of micC per g of pig debris. In comparison, the micH and micC biomarker were not detected in a pipeline from the same field that did not show active corrosion. Subsequently, we tested the novel biomarker assays on more readily available produced water collected from an African oilfield. On average, 2.4·102 gene copies of micH/ml were measured in MIC-affected pipelines. The MIC biomarker micC, on the other hand, was detected at about 1.2·102 gene copies/ml in only one of the tested pipelines that experienced MIC. Intriguingly, neither micH nor micC were detected in wellhead fluids or other areas where MIC was not suspected. The correlation of micH and micC with active corrosion in oil field settings demonstrated the merit of these novel biomarker to serve as indicators of active MIC. Detection of the MIC biomarkers in water samples from affected pipelines would also allow efficient microbial monitoring independent of biofilm samples. This would allow easier implementation of this new biomarker technologies in the field. Furthermore, the detection of both biomarkers in samples from geographically distinct oil field operations points to global significance of these assays. MIC is notoriously difficult to detect and monitor with current technologies. The development of these novel MIC biomarker technologies enables, for the first time, the targeted detection of highly corrosive microbial communities to develop truly diagnostic and actionable data for MIC detection and mitigation.

Abstract It is determined that for metal-induced laterally crystallized (MILC) polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si), the mechanical and etch properties compare favorably with and the sensing and electrical properties are better than those of conventional low-pressure chemical vapor deposited (LPCVD) poly-Si. The etching characteristics of MILC poly-Si in tetra-methyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAH) solution have been studied. A unified model based on preferential grain boundary (GB) etching has been proposed to explain the etching behavior of poly-Si in TMAH.

Das politische Argumentationsmuster der Städtekonkurrenz ist ein Resultat dieser Veränderung, wobei es in die Verantwortungen der Städte verlagert wird, sich als Standort profilieren zu müssen, indem Aufwertungsmaßnahmen durchgeführt und städtische Potenziale ausgebaut werden (Heeg und Rosol 2007: 492). Bob Jessop spricht in diesem Zusammenhang von einer Naturalisierung der neoliberalen Prinzipien, die auf der Ebene der Stadt zur Folge hat, dass Städte als chancengleich und damit selbstverantwortlich für ihre ökonomische Lage, d.h. für ihr Wohlergehen und die Möglichkeit attraktive Orte für Unternehmen und Bevölkerung zu sein, gesehen werden (Jessop 2002: 468). Folglich verschieben sich auch die Prioritäten der Stadtplanung, so dass nicht mehr die Versorgung der Bevölkerung und der Abbau von sozialräumlichen Disparitäten als Ziel der Stadtplanung an erster Stelle stehen, sondern das Hauptziel zunehmend darin besteht, die fiskalische und wirtschaftliche Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Städte selbst zu erhalten (Schneider-Sliwa 1996: 318). Um im Wettbewerb zu bestehen, gilt es eine prosperierende, attraktive Innenstadt als Aushängeschild der Stadt vorweisen zu können bzw. herzustellen. In Rüsselheim wird die Situation der Innenstadt, gemessen an der wirtschaftlichen Lage, momentan sehr negativ beurteilt. Auch Zeitungsartikel zeichnen ein pessimistisches Bild der Rüsselsheimer Innenstadt1: So druckt die Frankfurter Rundschau, um ein Beispiel heraus zu greifen, eine großformatige Kollage, bestehend aus den Schaufenstern der vielen leerstehenden Ladenflächen (Frankfurter Rundschau 27/28.02.10: R24). Die Sanierung der Innenstadt befindet sich bereits seit den 1990er Jahren in der Vorbereitung. Von der Stadt in Auftrag gegebene Studien attestieren dem gesamten öffentlichen Raum eine erhebliche Beeinträchtigung seiner Funktion als Geschäftsstandort, da die städtebauliche Gestalt nicht der für den Einzelhandel erforderlichen Aufenthaltsqualität und Atmosphäre gerecht wird. Dem soll mit umfassenden Sanierungsmaßnahmen begegnet werden, die als Antwort auf den Städtewettbewerb und die Standortkonkurrenz zu verstehen sind, in denen sich die Stadt besser aufstellen möchte. Die Planungen sind, so meine These, ausgerichtet auf eine Zielgruppe, die noch nicht vor Ort ist, d.h. Maßnahmen sollen die Stadt, insbesondere die Innenstadt, für eine „gewünschte Bevölkerung― erst attraktiv machen. Die derzeitigen Nutzungen und BewohnerInnen entsprechen nicht den Vorstellungen einer repräsentablen Innenstadt, worauf mit einer Umdefinition des Stadtraumes reagiert wird, um bestimmte Nutzungen zu verdrängen. In meiner Diplomarbeit möchte ich mich mit dem Diskurs um die Innenstadtsanierung in Rüsselsheim beschäftigen. Rüsselsheim erscheint mir für dieses Vorhaben sehr interessant, da sich die Diskussionen in dem großen Widerspruch zwischen Hoffnungen und Visionen für die Planung mit dem Ziel der Herstellung einer prosperierenden Stadt und der Ohnmacht, ob der unlösbaren (finanziellen) Situation, bewegen. Zudem spielt das Verhältnis der Stadt zu Opel eine Rolle, da die Wahrnehmung der Stadt verknüpft ist mit der Wahrnehmung der Situation des Unternehmens Opel und auch Stadtentwicklung und Unternehmensentwicklung miteinander verschränkt sind, was sich im Stadtbild wieder findet. Womöglich lässt das den Diskurs um Planungen im Bezug auf den Wandel vom Fordismus zum Postfordismus besonders deutlich zu Tage treten, da Rüsselsheim zu Zeiten des Fordismus massiv expandierte und heute in diesem Zusammenhang stehende, strukturelle Probleme zu bearbeiten hat. Diese Situation ist mitbestimmend für die Diskussion um die durchzuführenden Sanierungsmaßnahmen.

Abstract:
La publicación “Construyendo Resiliencia: Lecciones aprendidas en América Latina y el Caribe” es un compendio de la serie de seminarios sobre gestión de riesgo de desastres, realizados por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo en 2021. Estos seminarios se realizaron con el objetivo de divulgar conocimiento relevante sobre un tema de alta importancia: la resiliencia ante las catástrofes en América Latina y el Caribe. En esta región, la temporada de huracanes de 2020 fue una de las más activas de la historia, impactando particularmente a algunos países de Centroamérica. A pesar de la creciente intensidad y frecuencia de estos eventos, como se observó en noviembre de 2020 con los huracanes Eta e Iota, los sistemas de preparación ante emergencias lograron reducir las pérdidas de vidas humanas causadas por desastres. Este desempeño es el resultado de reformas normativas, institucionales y presupuestales que los países de Centroamérica implementaron después del Huracán Mitch en 1998 y que se reflejan en la mejora de las condiciones de gobernanza para la gestión del riesgo de desastres en la región. Sin embargo, el manejo de los impactos económicos de los desastres sobre las poblaciones más vulnerables sigue siendo un reto importante para el desarrollo sostenible de Centroamérica y de América Latina y el Caribe en su conjunto. Para mitigar los efectos de estos eventos sobre el crecimiento y bienestar social, los países requieren transitar de un enfoque orientado a atender el desastre hacia uno que priorice fortalecer la resiliencia y reducir la vulnerabilidad, profundizando la gobernanza y la implementación de las prioridades del Marco de Acción de Sendai para la reducción del riesgo de desastres (2015-2030). La presente publicación narra el desarrollo de cada uno de los seis seminarios que propiciaron el intercambio de experiencias y buenas prácticas y a través de los cuales se identificaron oportunidades de avance en la capacidad de resiliencia de los países ante las catástrofes naturales.
