Abstract:
Plant cytochromes P450 of the CYP98 family are implied in the phenylpropanoid pathway. I cloned sequences coding for two CYP98s in tobacco: CYP98A30 and CYP98A31. The activity of CYP98A30 was tested in vitro in several heterologous systems but no metabolisation was detected. In vivo results indicate that CYP98A30 is expressed and active as a 3’-hydroxylase in tobacco. This protein might be involved in defense mechanisms. Moreover overexpression experiments showed that CYP98A30 takes part in the synthesis of chlorogenic acid. The activity of CYP98A31 was measured in vitro : this protein 3’-hydroxylates coumaroyl-quinate and preferentially coumaroyl-shikimate. In vivo this enzyme is implied in the biosynthesis of lignin and chlorogenic acid, a phenol which acts as an antioxydant in plants. My work enabled us to advance in the elucidation of the chlorogenic acid pathway in plants

Despote the indisputable advantages of fine-pitch components, is need to calculate with a few trouble during production, especially increased requirements for accuracy of mounting and solder printing. In this work I’m concerned with problems of solder printing for these components and evaluation using SPC. For the evaluation I used 3D paste inspection based on laser scanning of the surface. The output of this work is to describe the principles of solder printing and elaborating of GR&R, SPC analysis and histograms of solder printing for some outputs. I focused in my master thesis on motive design change of problematic components and economic evaluation of the adjustments.

Abstract:
Public housing in today's society is an accumulation of truths. These truths are a construct of institutions that are vastly different and sometimes conflicting but control and arrange life within the community. Public housing has transformed into a place of actual and perceived boundaries which constrict the control residents possess within the housing and its surroundings. The lack of control socially segregates, isolates, and stigmatizes residents as well as creates a dangerous environment. The residents' exclusion from outside communities prohibits them from functioning cohesively within society. With the objective of reducing crime rates, this thesis focuses on the physical environment's ability to transform the strict boundaries which separate public and private space within public housing. Blurring the influence of existing private spaces will give residents the ability to express territoriality within the public housing complex. A new order will be generated through localized interrelationships of private and public spaces. This environmental transformation will give residents among the public housing a sense of territoriality and the ability for self surveillance within their community. Inducing modes of habitation found outside of the public housing paradigm will return much needed control of space to the residents within the community.

Abstract:
This thesis proceeds from the observation that Milton is concerned by the presence of surplus material in the physical world. The blind Pharisee in Samson Agonistes dismisses his 'redundant locks, / Robustious to no purpose clustering down.' In the Ludlow masque, Comus complains that the Lady's 'moral babble' would leave nature 'strangled with her waste fertility.' Creation, in Paradise Lost, requires the expulsion of 'black tartareous cold infernal dregs' and leaves behind an abyss full of matter. Adam and Eve live in a garden where the sun shines with more warmth than they need, where the nighttime sky is bright with a perplexing canopy of lights. Vines and overgrown branches threaten to make their walks unpassable, while fruit, uncollected and uneaten, falls to the ground. An interest in superfluity is a characteristic feature of Milton's imagination. He insists on limits, then turns to what is left out as excess or waste. This habit of mind influences Milton's description of acts of choosing and gives shape to his account of the relationship between creation and God. It complicates his answer to the sort of question Augustine asks of God in the Confessions: 'Do heaven and earth contain you because you have filled them? Or do you fill them and overflow them because they do not contain you?' Milton is troubled by the idea of purposeless divine work. He is bothered by the thought of a creation that is useless or unnecessary. In Paradise Lost, I argue, the reason for the existence for the world is tied to the reason for sin.

Abstract:
The young John Milton grew up in a musical household, and there is biographical evidence that his youthful passion for music only deepened over the years. My dissertation is not, however, concerned with biography. Instead, what I explore here are the ways in which thinking and writing about music stimulated Milton towards some of his most characteristically radical intellectual and aesthetic positions, and the ways in which Milton, in turn, impelled musical composers to create some of their most characteristic and challenging works. The first two chapters explore, respectively, how Milton’s poetry about music interacts with his distinctive brand of materialist philosophy; and how Milton constructs a poetic model of music that is deployed consistently throughout his poetic œuvre. The second two chapters take up an interdisciplinary mode of analysis to examine, respectively, the problem of cacophony in Handel’s Samson, an oratorio based on Milton’s Samson Agonistes; and the musical representation of fallenness in Krzysztof Penderecki’s opera of Paradise Lost.

Abstract:
The research studies the relationship between the immigrants and the housing in the context of the Municipality of Milan. It takes into account both of the economic aspects and the creation of a modern real estate market and the limits of the welfare system, in particular of the social housing. The research continues with the analysis of some main trends of contemporary post-modern society, such as the urbanization, the ageing and the impoverishment of parts of the population. The research focuses on Milan, in particular on the spatial effects of these aspects and it presents three case study of the history of Milan considered best practices of welfare.

Full text
Abstract:
In contradistinction to critical trends which have rendered Milton’s thought disembodied, this thesis studies how seventeenth-century material culture informed Milton’s poetry and prose at the epistemic level and by suggesting a palette of forms for literary play. The first chapter explores the early modern culture of fruit. At the epistemic level, practices of fruit cultivation and consumption inform Milton’s imagination and his vocabulary, thereby connecting their historic-material lives with their symbolic ones. Milton further turns commonplace gestures of fruit consumption into narrative devices that frame discussions of agency, aspiration, sinful and right practice. The second chapter examines two floral catalogues to discover how they find shape through the epistemologies of flowers, ceremony, and decorative arts. Here material culture shapes literary convention, as one catalogue is found to secret ceremonial consolation in its natural ingenuousness, while the other’s delight in human physicality upsets the distinctions between inner virtue and outer ornament, faith and rite. In the third chapter, urban epistemologies of light, darkness, movement, and space are examined through urban phenomena: skyline, suburbs, highways, theft, and waterways. By interpellating contemporary debates, these categories anatomise fallen character, intent, action, and their consequences. Milton’s instinctive distaste for urban nuisances is interesting in this Republican figure and is subversive of some ideologies of the text. Discursive and material aspects meet again in the fourth chapter in a discussion of his graphic presentations of geography on the page. Usually prone to analyses of textual knowledge, they are also informed by the embodiment of knowledge as material object. Milton’s search for a fitting cartographic aesthetic for the Biblical narrative and for the rhetoric of his characters leads him to an increasing consciousness of the ideologies energising these material forms. The fifth chapter explores Milton’s engagement with forms of armour and weapons. Military preferences for speed and mobility over armour help Milton explore the difference between unfallen and fallen being. Milton also uses his inescapably proleptic knowledge of arms and armour as a field of imaginative play for representations that are both anachronistic and typological. These lead to a discussion of imitation in the mythic imagination. In each of these studies, we witness Milton’s consciousness of his temporal and proleptic location, and his attempts to marry the temporal and the pan- or atemporal. In the conclusion I suggest that Milton’s simultaneous courting of the atemporal while he is drawn to or draws on temporal material culture imply an incarnational aesthetic.

Abstract:
This research is a comparative investigation of Milton and the Zohar divided into six Chapters. The similarities in ideas are discussed and possible indebtedness to the Kabbalah is duly noted where appropriate. In Chapter One the central symbolical code of the 'tree of life' is related to the philosophical structure of Paradise Lost and Camus, divided into the ensuing sections: intellect and passion; beauty; justice and mercy; intellect and intuition; the crown; the evolution of man and the journey from sephirot to sephirot; the four worlds in the universe and the three aspects of the soul. Chapter Two is concerned with the creation of the universe and due attention is given to the following: the revelation of the future to Adam; the emanation of matter from God; the process of creation from darkness; the transcendence of God; the existence of sin or the need to justify creation; the creation of Adam; the implied creation of Adam as an androgynous being; the sexuality of the stars and other planets; creation based on duality; creation as an emanation from thought; the loss of direct communication with God. In Chapter Three the fall from a paradisal innocence and the position on marital affairs. in Milton's works and the Zahar is investigated including: the victory of carnal appetite over the higher mind; seduction in Samson Agonistes; the transformation of Adam's and Eve's ethereal bodies after the fall; 'appetite' while in the Garden; attitudes towards divorce; soul mates; procreation. In Chapter Four the discussion includes reference to Satan or Samael in the Zahar and the ensuing sections: a comparison between Sin and Lilith; the fallen angel Azazel; the goat as an evil animal; the 'evil eye'; Adramelec and Balaam; the sorcery of Balak (the demonic bird). Chapter Five continues with an investigation of the left-hand path or sitra-ahra focusing on: hell as a locality; hell as a psychological reality within the individual; hell as the 'shadow' within the subconscious; the left-hand path and judgement; Satan, Samael and Hitler; the chariot of paternal deity. In the final Chapter various aspects of the Messianic kingdom are considered: the apocalypse and the millenium; the arbor vitae of Eden and the second paradise; the promise of a future redeemer foretold by Michael or Raziel; the removal of evil from earth; the coming of the Messiah as a cosmic cycle or shemittah; the rainbow as a herald of peace.

Abstract:

Ramasamy, Kameshnee. "Milton Hyland Erickson: psychobiographical study." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/14444.

Full text
Abstract:
Historically psychobiography has focused to a large extent on the study of pathology in human development. In recent years, scholars in the field of psychobiography have recommended that studies with a eugraphic focus be undertaken, thereby investigating optimal human development. Milton Hyland Erickson (1901-1980) was an American psychologist and psychiatrist. An extraordinary creative individual who conducted pioneering work in the field of hypnosis. Whilst vast publications of his academic work exist and his work is continued through the Milton H. Erickson Foundation and its global subsidiaries, in comparison, his life story has not been the focus of much study. The psychobiographical merit of Erickson as the subject of the study was based on his involvement in interesting and important events, as well as his resilient attitude towards life, during even dire moments. The focus of this psychobiography was to conceptualise Erickson’s life in terms of the principles of Adler’s Individual Psychology and Peterson and Seligman’s Character Strengths and Virtues Classification. Through this process it was aimed to provide descriptions and interpretations of Erickson’s personality in order to illuminate aspects such as his creativity, service to others, and optimism. The study is written from the first person perspective and is rooted in the interpretive paradigm. It utilises a qualitative research approach in order to gain an in-depth understanding of Erickson’s finished life and thereby taking into account contextual factors. The two theoretical frameworks guided the iterative data collection and data analysis processes and the data were organised into a descriptive framework. The method of data analysis was idiographic thus describing the uniqueness of Erickson life. Strategies such as the triangulation of data sources and theory, focusing on aspects of saliency, trustworthiness, and ethics were employed to ensure reliable data extraction and interpretation. The study revealed that both theoretical frameworks were appropriate in their description and interpretation of Erickson’s personality and character strengths. Of significance was the protective role that creativity, social interest, hope, and optimism played against trauma and these emerged as central themes in Erickson’s life in terms of his psychological wellbeing. The findings on creativity and social interest are supported by existing research and theory but also highlight perspectives for future research. Creativity is a key component of knowledge production and therefore research in this area could improve our understanding of how it can be nurtured and developed across the lifespan. Whilst the construct of social interest was integral to this study its validity in terms of providing adequate explanations of how individuals balance their own needs against the needs of others was examined and suggestions of where the theory can be elaborated were highlighted.

Full text
Abstract:
There have been many studies of keywords in Paradise Lost. Over the last fifty or so years words such as wander, lapse, error, fruit, balmy, fall, hands, among others, have attracted critics attention. The present enquiry brings under scrutiny three linked keywords which have up to now escaped notice. These are the words bliss, delight, and pleasure. The fundamental proposition of the thesis is that Milton does not use these words haphazardly or interchangeably in his epic poem (though in other of his poetic productions he is by no means as fastidious). On the contrary, he self-consciously distinguishes among the three terms, assigning to each its own particular theatre of operations. Meant by this is that each keyword is selectively referred to a separate structural division of the epic, thus, bliss has reference specifically to Heaven (or to the earthly paradise viewed as a simulacrum of Heaven), delight to the earthly paradise in Eden and to the prelapsarian condition nourished by it; while pleasure, whose signification is ambiguous, refers in its favourable sense (which is but little removed from delight) to the Garden and the sensations associated with it, and in its unfavourable one to postlapsarian sensations and to the fallen characters. Insofar as the three structural divisions taken into account (Hell is not) are hierarchically organized in the epic, so too are the three keywords that answer to them. Moreover, in relating keywords to considerations of structure, the thesis breaks new ground in Paradise Lost studies.

Abstract:
As the new millennium dawns, there is a growing debate about the conflict between philosophies and between science and philosophy, and even about the end of philosophy itself. For this reason, we must seek out a radical and universal science that does not claim hierarchical importance or primacy over the others. Yet in the contemporary philosophies of Difference, the overriding importance of Difference as the philosophical invariant finds its place in the theory of immanence and, in juxtaposition, metaphysical transcendence. The vicious circle of the transcendent duality persists here in the name of the eternal recurrence, repetition, the chiasmus of the logos, and Emptiness. It would appear that the meanderings of contemporary thinking about these matters is leading us towards aporetic absurdity. In this regard, F. Laruelle demonstrates one thought of the Middle, which alleviates the depression and chaos of contemporary thinking. (Non-) philosophy, such as the immanental Middle, manages to make Generic science more universal as an avant-première. Generic science carved out from non-philosophy is sober, but free from the power of immanence of One or immanence of the Vision-in-One. Besides, through the research and experimentation of the thinking of the Middle in Asia – Emptiness (空性 Gongxing, śūnyatā) in the theory of Chungguan (中觀 Madhyamaka), the Vision-in-Middle of Nāgārjuna, Zhenru (眞如 tathatā) of Weishi (唯識 vijñāna–mātráta), such as the One or the Vision-in-One, Yixin ermen (一心二門) and the Unilateral Duality in Daichengqixin lun – we now consider more clearly the immanent and transcendental Middle as the Middle-in-One. This enables us to attain a rigorous science of the Middle thanks to the coming together of Generic Science and the thinking of the Middle in Asia. As a result, we will be able to practice the universal Science of the Middle through the Determination of the man in-the-last-instance or the Man-in-person. The Determination-in-the-last-instance takes on board the notions of the Middle-in-One, the Unilateral Duality of the Vision-in-Middle and of the Vision-in-One, or of the Vision-in-Middle-in-One

Redander, Jesper, and Simon Roos.

Full text
Abstract:
En teoretisk utgångspunkt tas i teorierna Eyes on the street (Jacobs 2004) och Crime prevention through environmental design (Cozens et al. 2005).

Abstract:
The works of John Milton Oskison, Cherokee writer, originally published in popular magazines, have been out of print since the 1920s. Oskison's stories have often been dismissed as sentimental and lacking a Native American focus; a more diligent reading, however, shows subtle and complex Native American motifs and concerns. John Oskison was born in Indian Territory in 1874, attended Willie Halsell College, Stanford and Harvard Universities, and then began to write for major New York magazines. It was not necessarily popular nor politically advantageous at that time to be known as Indian, especially if one wished to influence public opinion as a journalist. Oskison's Native American point of view and sympathy are strongly coded in the text, embedded in narrative displacements and rhetorical silences. His are "writerly" texts; at the most superficial level readers may see only populist and assimilationist "messages," but the narrative complexities belie such easy readings. Oskison grappled with the issues of being a highly educated mixed-blood trying to defend a tribal heritage while speaking in the most public arenas. This dissertation is a critical examination of the way this struggle manifests itself in his literary production.

Abstract:

Using methods drawn from literary analysis, theology, and political history, Loving Liberty explores the relationship between Milton's thinking about liberty and his practice of scriptural interpretation. It argues that Milton advances a model of a free society ultimately modeled on the charitable relations between the Father and the Son, who in his view differ essentially from one another. This model of liberated unity in difference derives from, and responds to, Milton's encounter with the Reformation ideal of each believer reading the Bible for him or herself, along with the social chaos that accompanied the resulting proliferation of interpretations. Using a complex concept of charity, Milton's writings imagine a society in which all are free to use scripture in highly individualized ways that nevertheless conduce to unity rather than chaos. In the end, the very interpretative practice through which Milton thinks his way toward this model also stands as its shining example, culminating in a rich body of writing that creatively re-imagines scripture and that invites its readers to use these new creations or not, as charity demands and in keeping with their own freely exercised gifts. In contrast to what he calls “obstinate literality” and “alphabetical servility&rdquo in The Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce, Milton's liberated interpretative method requires the interpreter to generate his or her own Bible, whether by radically reassembling the text (as Milton does in De Doctrina Christiana), by prophetically speaking the scripture written on one's heart (as Michael teaches Adam to do in Paradise Lost)

"Milton, Marvell, and Anglo-Dutch relations." Thesis, University of Exeter, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10871/25940.

Full text
Abstract:
This study argues for a more widely-conceived cultural sphere that allows the complex and multifarious interactions of both English and Dutch cultures in the early modern period to be explored more fully. My lenses are the works of John Milton and Andrew Marvell, and the relations that they and their work had with the United Provinces and its people. The thesis has a two-part structure. The first half introduces Dutch contexts, being a brief introduction to major areas of early modern Dutch culture, while the second shows how these contexts were influential on, and reflected by, Milton and Marvell. The first four chapters therefore consider areas that had an impact on England and its political and literary writers. These include, in Chapter I, stereotypes and first impressions of the Dutch Republic in English travelogues; representations of the Dutch in these works often surfaced in satirical work on the Dutch during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Another concern is the literary milieu of the United Provinces, including print culture, literary circles, and ideas of educational reform. Other chapters in Part I discuss two highly influential aspects of Dutch religious life, Arminianism and toleration - both of which had repercussions for Protestantism in England - politics and trade, in particular works on Dutch republicanism and trade, in which England became the United Provinces’ greatest rival. Part II then explores Dutch culture, nation and stereotyping in Milton and Marvell. It demonstrates the far-reaching involvement of Dutch printing culture, especially visible in the publication history of Milton’s Defenses. It also interrogates literary similarities in the works of two Dutch authors, Constantijn Huygens and Joost van den Vondel, with Milton’s Paradise Lost and Marvell’s Upon Appleton House, respectively. The last two chapters identify traces of Dutch Arminianism and toleration in Milton’s Samson Agonistes, Marvell’s Remarks, and Rehearsal Transpros’d, part I and II; and compare versions of republicanism in Samson Agonistes and Vondel’s Samson, of Heilige Wraak, as well as discussing Anglo-Dutch rivalry in their works. This thesis demonstrates the deep and abiding importance of Anglo-Dutch relations to the works of two canonical English authors. Literary, intellectual and politico-religious exchange between England and the United Provinces was more entrenched than it has previously been portrayed.

Abstract:
This research proposes a survey and study the works of Milton Kurtz (1951 - 1996), architect and artist who developed his technique essentially based on drawing, participating in groups of artists that promoted a discussion and a cultural effervescence in state of Rio Grande do Sul in the final of the 70's and beginning of the 80's. The main bias is linked to the presence of a visuality that shows a link with his contemporary and the mass media. With references in comics, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, movies and television, making up his personal collection, Kurtz produced an intense work with verifiable approaches to the spirit characteristic of Pop Art. The research proposes a survey of these approaches, and the study of his poetic feature that shows a strong bias erotic, exploring issues of body and revealing ambiguities and dualities related to the bi-dimensionality and to the gender issues. This study also aims to contribute to the proper record in the history of art in the state, not just the work of Milton Kurtz, but also the KVHR, group of artists which participated actively since November 1977 to May 1980, with Julio Viega, Paulo Haeser and Mário Röhnelt.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis analyses two films by Clint Eastwood Million Dollar Baby and American Sniper. Its focus is aimed at the formal storytelling aspects, structure of the storyline and plot devices in the screenplays. The first film is an example of misusing these plot devices; the theme being euthanasia remains irrelevant from the viewers perspective although it was meant to resonate strongly at first. Analysis of the second film shows us the discrepancy of what the film "wanted" to be and the actual message it implicitly presents to the audience. Instead of being an objective reflection of the real events (in this case the war in Iraq) it is on purpose misleading in presenting of commonly known facts and hence it becomes propaganda. The analysis of the storytelling devices in this thesis can be also applied on different films and cinema in general.

Abstract:

This dissertation is a reading of the Milton Hatoums novel Dois irmãos. My focus here is the representations of the subjectivity in the novel. As a first step, I analyse more general aspects that also structure work, such as the Brazilian history, the transformations in the urban space of Manaus, the ruin of the house, and else the tragedy lived by the characters, mainly the twins. I aim, then, an analysis that articulates the general and the specific of the novel and that takes into consideration, mainly, the reminiscent aspect of the narrator and character Nael and his search for the answers about his origin.

Dawes, Martin. "Milton and the politics of orphic enchantment." Thesis, McGill University, 2010. http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=86809.

Full text
Abstract:
While Milton's ambivalence towards myth has been attributed to pagan-Christian tension or to pressure from a utilitarian culture, I argue that his poetical struggle with Orpheus the enchanting bard is equally political. His attraction to the divinely gifted singer, evident in his juvenilia, was tempered by the need to take account of the myth's royalist currency as a figure for the ordering power of monarchy. The court masque epitomized an art of Orphic enchantment designed to spellbind the audience - an art antithetical to Milton's quest for a collaborative readership empowered to choose citizenship over subjection. Growing dissident under Charles I, he rejected this royalist art of mastery along with the traditional union of bard and king. Milton used Ovidian irony to reposition Orpheus within a dialogical poetics of engagement that might inspire readers to realize their god-given freedom.
I trace the development of Milton's poetics to show that, in search of a mutually beneficial relation between artists and audiences, governors and peoples, his poetry weighs Orphic enchantment against more dialogical models. I demonstrate how the more secular poems link the pursuit of Orphic art to escapism and question the passivity of the enchanted audience, implying that we open ourselves all too readily to political subjection. Milton takes on royalist art by gesturing towards a poetics that awakens others to social action. I further argue that the sacred poems harness the Christian concept of trial to such an anti-authoritarian poetics, delving more deeply into the temptations of Orphic power and the problem at their heart: why do we so often prefer enchantment to engagement, too often deserve subjection for failing to earn citizenship? While the poems affirm that art can serve engagement, they warn that Orphic temptations such as nostalgia and melancholy may arrest development and encourage disengagement. Milton builds his epic and his God alike on the levelling model of dialogue. The freedom fostered by that model is fragile, but engaging in debate gives us a taste for the choosing that it requires, stimulating the desire to exercise our free will further. The dialogue through which we flourish as reasoners and choosers demands both chutzpah and humility. The "skilfull and laborious gatherer[s]" expected in Milton's prose become the engaged and collaborative readers for whom his poetry calls by refusing merely to enchant us.

Abstract:
Renaissance Error proposes that the formal key to early modern literature is digression. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, writers compose works that persistently imitate moral and cognitive wandering, often in an attempt to remedy such wandering. Their powerful sense of human error springs from the humanist and reformist view of the Middle Ages as a gigantic detour from classical civilisation and from the apostolic Church. This sense deepens as the intellectual disciplines and religious paths of the Renaissance divide. And it culminates in a radical picture of all human desire, thought, and history as continually digressive from beginning to end.

Abstract:
This thesis deals primarily with Renaissance tragedy and with Milton's Paradise Lost. It is structured around three main Sections each of which identifies a dominant theme in the drama/poetry of the period 1580-1670 and considers the way in which it is utilised in order to express or represent what was arguably the most pressing concern of the age - the concept of individual identity, or 'selfhood'. Section One takes as its theme 'death', or more specifically 'death scenes'. It considers the way in which the battle for what I have chosen to term 'directional control' in the death scenes of both playhouse and scaffold shapes the symbiotic relationship between the two, and can be viewed as a vital component in the rhetoric of identity which emerges from plays such as Shakespeare's Macbeth, Othello, Antony and Cleopatra, Webster's Duchess of Malfi, and scaffold texts of the period. Section Two deals with the remaining Shakespearean mature tragedies - Hamlet and King Lear - as well as with Marlowe's Dr Faustus. It takes as its focal point the viability - or otherwise - of the 'interiorised contexts' which such plays construct. This Section contends that these (relative) microcosmic interiors are, in fact, limited by the 'absolute' of death. The third and final Section of the thesis consequently addresses the implications, for the contextualised self, of removing this limiting factor. The text which lends itself most naturally to this is Paradise Lost, and Section Three concludes by placing Milton's epic alongside a small selection of contemporaneous poetry by Traherne.

The current research work, entitled ?Milton Santos: Global Thought and Education? presents a study on the intellectual Milton Santos (1926 ? 2001), a professor who intensely fuels the debate about elements which are part of the world reality and, especially the Brazilian one. The questioning that surrounded such study was based on the need of constant investigations about the historical complexity of present, the contradictory reality in which Education is inserted, as well as that Education might be understood and transformed into this social-historical context and take some posture which is contrary to the capital logic. We kept our research into the study of the concepts of ?Space?, ?Globalization?, `Globalitarism?, ?Only thought?, ?Universal Thought?, ?Citizenship? and ?Experience?, ?wisdom of lack? which represent some of the theoretical elements that match with professor Milton Santos?s thoughts, making a parallel with the formal contemporary Brazilian Education. Based on the theoretical methodological assumptions of the Marxist theory, we sought to locate the problematic in the macro-structural context, relating it to the particularities of the concepts studied, trying to make a parallel with the totality social classes struggle, contradiction and hegemony. The study about MILTON concepts provide analytical subsidies for the understanding of the social-historical contemporary context in which the policies for the formal Brazilian Education are and where discussions regarding its transformation are postulated. We tried to establish, according to the MILTON concept of intellectual, its relevancy for the organization and social mobilization, as well as its relation to Education. The research made by the intellectual Milton Santos shows the dimension of the fundaments of a new Geography, and although it is not a common reference in the Education field, the concepts made by him contribute to the comprehension of a real representation of the social context in which Education is inserted, and therefore, we considered the importance of the detailed examination about his thought. However, we do not intend to use up the discussions around Professor Milton Santos thoughts with this research, but only raise the knowledge and debate about part of the concepts present in his work for the real theoretical and practical coping turned to the debate on Education, History of Education, Education Policy, development and performance of intellectuals throughout history Brazil.
