Abstract:
Studien syftade till att undersöka skillnader i framställning i två militära rekryteringsfilmer från Tyskland och Sverige. Syftet uppfylls genom multimodala analyser av filmerna och genom en fokusgruppsintervju beståendes av tyska och svenska studenter. I den multimodala analysen kartlades relevanta meningsbärande modaliteter för att ta reda på hur organisationerna framställer sig själva i filmerna. Fokusgruppsintervjun gav underlag till en kvalitativ innehållsanalys där publikens tolkning av filmerna kartlades med ett särskilt fokus på hur kultur har för betydelse för tolkningen. Studiens teoretiska bakgrund utgörs dels av Althussers teori kring ideologier och statliga anordningar och interpellationskonceptet som det vidareutvecklas av Judith Williamson. För tolkning av fokusgruppsintervjun applicerades Stuart Halls teori om Encoding/Decoding och Kim Schröders multidimensionella mottagarmodell. Studien kommer fram till att filmerna syftar till att interpellera, tilltala, publiken på skilda vis vilket leder till att två olika ideologier reproduceras. Innehållsanalysen av fokusintervjun pekade på att den kulturella bakgrunden kan vara en central faktor som förklarar varför filmerna tolkades olika av deltagarna. Ur ett samhälleligt perspektiv är studien relevant då den påtalar militära organisationers reproduktiva makt över ideologier i samhället. Förslagsvis kan framtida forskning undersöka kulturens roll för avkodning av militära rekryteringsfilmer på en mer detaljerad nivå. Till exempel skillnader i mottagande mellan landsorts- och stadsbefolkning. Studiens begränsningar utgörs främst av den korta tidsram inom vilken den genomförts och bristen på triangulering av data

Abstract:
Transitioning from military service to the civilian workforce is both a daunting experience and a formidable challenge for many highly skilled veterans. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore the successful strategies of Fortune 500 business leaders for the recruitment and hiring of veterans. Person-organization fit theory formed the conceptual framework for this study. The targeted population consisted of 3 business leaders from 3 separate Fortune 500 businesses in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with successful strategies for recruiting and hiring veterans. Data collected from interviews and supporting documents were coded and analyzed using a mind-mapping technique, and 3 themes emerged: veteran awareness and edification, business leader awareness and edification, and working with strategic partners. The study findings may provide business leaders who lack veteran recruitment and hiring strategies opportunities to access skilled veterans seeking employment. The social implications of this study revolves around potential enhancements to business leaders' understanding of what highly skilled veterans may bring to their organizations' operational portfolio. Additionally, this study may contribute to veteran job seekers' awareness of the importance of preparing themselves for the career transition between military service and the civilian workforce.

Abstract:
The belief that Scotland showed undue patriotism by providing a high proportion of volunteers in 1914-16 needs to be looked at in a new light. While the New Armies of 1914-16 may have been volunteer in concept, they were not volunteer in actuality, and, while there was no doubt a proportion of men in Scotland, as elsewhere in the British Empire, who were prepared to come forward for purely altruistic or 'patriotic' ideals, the majority enlisted for more practical or realistic reasons. External forces either pushed or pulled those men and enticed or forced them to enlist. Previous analyses have been primarily top down. We know how many men served, and with what units, but not why. This thesis is an investigation of Scottish recruitment from the bottom up, to determine whether or not those who enlisted came from any particular section of Scottish society. This investigates and explains the driving forces behind voluntary recruitment in Scotland, August 1914 - December 1915, its methods, course taken, and its impact on the country as a whole.

Abstract:
This thesis consists of an introductory part and two self-contained chapters related to the supply of volunteers to the Swedish Armed Forces. Chapter [I] represents the first effort to explore the relationship between civilian labour market conditions and the supply of labour to the military in the all-volunteer environment that Sweden entered after the abolishment of the peacetime draft in 2010. The effect of civilian unemployment on the rate of applications from individuals aged 18 to 25 to initiate basic military training is investigated using panel data on Swedish counties for the years 2011 through 2015. A linear fixed-effects model is estimated to investigate the relationship, while controlling for a range of socio-demographic covariates and unobserved heterogeneity on the regional level, as well as aggregate trends on the national level. The results indicate a positive and statistically significant relationship between the unemployment rate and the application rate. The results are robust to non-linear form specifications, as well as allowing the civilian unemployment rate to be endogenous. As such, the results suggest that the civilian labour market environment in Sweden can give rise to non-trivial fluctuations in the supply of applications to initiate basic military training within the Swedish Armed Forces. Chapter [II] studies how local labour market conditions influence the quality composition of those who volunteer for military service in Sweden. A fixed-effects regression model is estimated on a panel data set containing IQ scores for those who applied for military basic training across Swedish municipalities during the period 2010 to 2016. The main finding is that low civilian employment rates at the local level tend to increase the mean IQ score of those who volunteer for military service, whereas the opposite is true if employment rates in the civilian labour market move in a more favourable direction. As such, the results suggest that the negative impact of a strong civilian economy on recruitment volumes is reinforced by a deterioration in recruit quality.

Abstract:
After shifting to an all-volunteer force (AVF) in 1973, the U.S. military was forced to expand recruiting efforts beyond the ideal figure of the white male soldier in order to meet personnel needs. Shaped by the economic realities of the AVF, such recruiting efforts sought to show individuals historically excluded from military service, namely women and people of color, that there was a place for them in the military. The presence of women and people of color in recruitment materials contributes to ideals of citizenship and articulates understanding of gender, race, sexuality, and class in relation to military inclusion. Focusing on recruitment advertisements published in three consumer magazines—Sports Illustrated, Ebony, and Cosmopolitan—from January 1973 to December 2014, this dissertation argues that the project of military inclusion is driven by a need to recruit bodies in maintenance of the military institution and obfuscates class inequalities critical to recruiting, reconfigures ideas about military masculinity, promotes ideologies of colorblindness, and regulates ideas about gender and sexuality.

Abstract:
This thesis looks at the conception and representation of military men in British and French literature 1740-1789 as the military man moved from non-national ‘archetype’ (warrior, knight, noble) toward nationalised professional (officer, soldier, sailor). The dates that frame the corpus contain the last two European wars before the French Revolution: the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48) and the Seven Years War (1756-1763). In literature, the ancient concepts of heroism and glory had to contend with newer models of merit and virtue. Drawn together by warfare, this transformation also united British and French culture via two factors that lay outside the limits of national identity: shared origins in the dynastic realm and the public’s growing taste for narratives with contemporary settings and moral themes. The methodologies employed permit an examination of the cultural and historical dimension of identity construction: Judith Butler demonstrates how gender ‘styles’ are brought into being through performative acts, giving them coherence through repetition; styles of masculinity were re-imagined in eighteenth-century literature. Benedict Anderson’s explanation for the rise of nationalism reveals a process begun in the late eighteenth-century, displacing ancient and deeply held relationships. Five thematic chapters treat: the sword as ‘signifier’ for an ancient and founding masculinity and its relation to honour culture; young military men advancing merit and subalternism as alternatives to hierarchical models; the veteran, created by society and functioning as the ideological ‘other’ to the new civilian; the mercenary soldier and the moral significance of markets in men; and finally, the justicier, an eighteenth-century literary figure who combines a new model of chivalry with military authority to pursue ‘poetic justice.’ It is my contention that in this period, with the ‘nobleman’ long gone, the military man, not a ‘civilian’ and no longer associated with the ‘aristocrat’, became a separate class of man.

Abstract:
The inability of business owners to hire skilled employees affects the profitability of a small business. Small business owners may attain profitability by understanding the value of military veterans and cultivating strategies for the hiring and recruitment process. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies that business owners in Fayetteville, North Carolina used to recruit military veterans as a means to acquire skilled employees to maximize productivity, profitability, and sustainability. The conceptual framework of this study included human capital theory and recruitment theory. The purposive sample consisted of 6 participants who were small business owners. Data from interviews and supporting documents were processed and analyzed using data source triangulation to identify 3 emergent themes. Findings indicated that, for these 6 Fayetteville small business owners, job description and transition workshops, resume review and communication, and accommodations and benefits were key attributes related to the successful recruitment of military veterans as skilled employees. Specifically, streamlined hiring processes, relationship building, and access to resources were predictive of a successful hire. Knowledge barriers regarding hiring processes prevented efficient communication between small business owners and military veterans, but business owners cultivated strategies to help with hiring military veterans. The implications for positive social change include the potential for business owners to capitalize on the skills that military veterans bring to the civilian workforce, which in turn may improve the economy.

Abstract:
Successful transition to civilian employment is a challenge for veterans. The purpose of this single case study was to explore critical aspects of hiring managers' decision-making process and to understand how these strategies and techniques affect the hiring of veterans. Tajfel and Turner's social identity theory and Lewin's organizational change model formed the conceptual framework for the study. The participants for this study were 8 hiring managers from a midsized company in the Upper Hudson Valley Region, New York. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. The data were analyzed and coded and 4 themes emerged: strategies used to fill open positions, specific recruitment and interview protocols, veterans' skills from military training, and lack of experience with hiring veterans. The study results may contribute to veteran's awareness of the skills that employers are seeking that veterans may be able to fulfill. The results of the study could create an opportunity for hiring managers to recognize that veterans represent a trained, ready-made talent pool. The social impact of the study could help hiring managers identify and design the required job description criteria to include the transferable skills of veterans.

Abstract:
In this dissertation, I address the relationship between the content and design of governmental websites and the ideological interests of the overseeing political administrations. Three case studies contrast the contemporary political climates in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Republic of Colombia, and the United Stastes with the form and function of their respective military recruitment homepages. Through a semiotic, and specifically multimodal lens, I aim to determine to what degree there is evidence of the governing poltical party’s ideological perspective on the websites. To accomplish this task, each case study is introduced by a brief contemporary history in order to provide a summary of key political events within state. Each case study then includes a detailed analysis of 3-4 governmental homepages. Within those analyses, a comprehensive multimodal analysis is conducted for the most evocative content on each homepage. Finally, conclusions are reached for each case study, paying special attention to the content found along the reading path.

This thesis aims to analyze the military mobilization during the war with Paraguay (1864-1870) in the province of Rio Grande do Norte, reflecting on the social impact that recruitment caused social structures, focusing on interference in power structures, relationships provincial social and everyday life. The effort required to finance the war demanded the imperial government a broad movement of conscription ever seen in Brazil, feeling its effects throughout the national territory. In this sense the provincial and orderly routine was modified in order to facilitate the recruitment, both in bureaucratic organization, with fill positions as the modified forms of work. One of the agents more engaged in the issues of war and recruitment were the presidents of the province, a position that has become crucial to the intentions of the imperial government. The expansion of military recruitment meant entering into the field of local government, which demanded the negotiating complex imperial government. Despite the great flood of soldiers in the early years of the conflict (1865-1866), the violence committed by recruiters were not diminished in the following years, especially in the hinterland of the province of Rio Grande do Norte. The resistance of the population favors the recruitment produced constant conflict throughout the provincial territory, leaking and rescues soldiers, attacks on commissions for recruiting, training entourages and confrontations of all kinds. At the same time that need arises regimentation of soldiers to incorporate the military, develops in the province wide movement to summon citizens to arms. The analysis of the sources, namely reports of provincial presidents, atas of the House of Representatives and the Senate, decrees published during the war, codes Posture, and some papers, allowed us the perception of the subject recruitment at the Provincial level, attending to the daily lives and social changes.
Essa dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a mobilização militar durante a guerra do Paraguai (1864-1870) na província do Rio Grande do Norte, refletindo sobre o impacto social que o recrutamento causou nas estruturas sociais, atentando para as interferências nas estruturas de poder, relações sociais e na vida cotidiana provincial. O esforço necessário para financiar a guerra demandou do governo imperial um amplo movimento de recrutamento militar jamais visto no Brasil, sentindo-se seus efeitos em todo o território nacional. Nesse sentido o cotidiano provincial foi modificado e ordenado de maneira a facilitar o recrutamento, tanto na organização burocrática, com preenchimento de cargos, como na modificação das formas de trabalho. Um dos agentes que mais se empenhou nas questões da guerra e do recrutamento foram os presidentes de província, cargo que passou a ser de crucial importância para as intenções do governo imperial. A ampliação do recrutamento militar significou adentrar em domínio dos poderes locais, o que demandava do governo imperial complexa negociação. Apesar da grande torrente de soldados nos primeiros anos do conflito (1865-1866), as violências praticadas pelos agentes recrutadores não foram diminuídas nos anos seguintes, principalmente nos sertões da província do Rio Grande do Norte. A resistência da população propicia ao recrutamento produzia constantes conflitos em todo o território provincial, com fugas e resgastes de soldados, ataques a comissões de recrutamento, formação de séquitos e enfrentamentos de todo o tipo. Ao mesmo tempo em que surge necessidade de arregimentação de soldados para a incorporação às forças militares, desenvolve-se na província amplo movimento que pretende convocar às armas os cidadãos. A análise das fontes, a saber: relatórios dos presidentes de província, atas da Câmara dos Deputados e do Senado, decretos publicados durante a guerra, Códigos de Postura, além de alguns periódicos, nos possibilitou a percepção da temática do recrutamento em âmbito provincial, atentando para o cotidiano e as modificações sociais.

Abstract:
The myth of the citizen-soldier resonates strongly in the American imagination and helps (re)construct America the nation. The construction of this myth in the historical context of World War II is especially prominent in contemporary American culture. The myth of the World War II citizen-soldier functions as an individualized discursive formation with specific rules of formation. I contextualize the construction of this individualized discursive formation within the historical era of World War II, and show how it excludes in direct contradiction to the ideals of civic nationalism that shaped the concept of national citizenship of that era. The United States military, which changed to an All Volunteer Force in 1973, functions as a neoliberal state apparatus in modern America. However, the United States Military still largely relies on the rules of formation and the ideals of civic nationalism in order to recruit volunteers for its forces.

Traces of the myths of World War II, particularly the myth of the citizen-soldier, can still be found in the United States Army's recruitment material in its current "Army Strong" campaign despite the contradictory ideals of civic nationalism and neoliberalism. I conduct a Critical Discourse Analysis of three recruitment television commercials from the "Army Strong" campaign aired in 2009. I explain how the United States Army uses both the ideals of civic nationalism and the characteristics of neoliberalism in order to encourage potential recruits to join its ranks.

A historiografia relacionada às questões militares vem ganhando novos adeptos preocupados em “fazer história” desprendendo-se da perspectiva positivista, tradicionalista e ufanista. Neste sentido, observa-se que esse atual enfoque no estudo da instituição militar e de seus elementos relacionados pode proporcionar novos caminhos metodológicos e diferentes abordagens históricas que levem a uma nova compreensão da história social e cultural do Brasil. Assim, pretendemos discutir sobre o recrutamento militar na província de Minas Gerais, destacando a mobilização, a dinâmica, os possíveis conflitos e a resistência que por lá ocorreram durante o período entre 1865 e 1870, ou seja, durante a Guerra do Paraguai. Daremos ênfase à análise da representação e da influência do recrutamento militar durante o conflito do Brasil contra o Paraguai, e a relação desta incorporação compulsória de homens nas organizações militares diante da conjuntura social, política e econômica da província mineira, atentando-nos às suas prováveis peculiaridades.
The study of history related with military subjects is getting new adepts worried in “making history”, going away from this positive, traditional and nationalistic perspective. Ins this sense, it is observed that a present focus on the study of the army formation and its elements can provide new approaches and different historical ways, which take to a new comprehension of the social and cultural history of Brazil. We intend to discuss about the military recruitment in the province of Minas Gerais emphasizing the mobilization, the dynamic, the possible conflicts and the resistance that occurred in Minas Gerais within 1865 and 1870 (Paraguay War). We want to underline the result of the military recruitment during the battle of Brazil against Paraguay and understand how it influenced in the political, social and economical structure of the Minas Gerais province, drawing our attention to possible peculiarities.

Whereas conventionally administered movement screens are largely not sensitive to behaviors which impact soldierrelevant physical performance, recent evidence suggests that modified screens which incorporate external load-bearing strengthen the relationship between movement behaviors and performance outcomes. It remains unclear, however, which mechanisms may account for this improvement in association. Physical performance is considered a multidimensional construct influenced by several independent factors. Among the factors which influence military physical performance, movement screens may require high levels of strength, balance, and range of motion. This project used penalized interaction models to determine the role of strength, balance, and range of motion in modifying the effects of external load bearing on movement quality and movement. Additional confirmatory analyses examined differences in the abilities of FMS item scores to predict physical performance outcomes when those scores were obtained during control vs. external load-bearing conditions. Results suggest that the effect of load on movement complexity is modified by strength, balance, and range of motion whereas the effect on clinically rated movement quality is modified by only balance and range of motion. While the direction of the observed effects did not always coincide with our hypotheses, the present findings mirror those of previous research with respect to differential validity of weighted vs. control FMS item scores in predicting criterion performance measures.

Hybridization occurences in information and communication sciences. Discourse analysis of recruitment communications and campaign for the professional French armies from 1996 to 2012.The suspension of the conscription with its obligatory national service in 1996 has led the professional armies to communicate to recruit their military personnel. In 2012, it has been sixteen years that the Ministry of Defense has released communications for that purpose. Following a work of investigations carried out on the nineteen recruitment campaigns released between 1996 and 2012 by the French Army, the French Navy and the French Air Force, this thesis analyzes military recruitment discourses by postulating their enunciative polyphony. What are the different discursive forms that are entangled in the military recruiting speech? Is there any form of tensions or complementarities in the enunciation of this recruitment speech? How does it make a space for recipients in this hybridization of discursive forms? Ultimately, how does this hybridization of discourses help us with the understanding of military recruitment communications?

O trabalho se propõe a discutir o tema do recrutamento militar para a Guerra da Cisplatina, entre os anos de 1825 e 1828, na província do Rio Grande do Sul, pertencente ao Império do Brasil, e na Província Oriental, atual Uruguai, integrante das Províncias Unidas do Rio da Prata. Através do estudo de correspondências das autoridades militares dos dois lados do conflito e pautado pelas contribuições da “nova história militar” brasileira, se faz um estudo da legislação que regulava essa prática, a interpretação dos comandantes sobre estas, e o impacto causado na população pelos recrutadores. Enfoca-se, nessa última questão, na resistência oferecida pelas populações, de diferentes maneiras, para evitar que os homens fossem servir nos exércitos e milícias que combatiam pelo domínio da Banda Oriental. Para o caso do Brasil, se dá especial atenção à evolução da instituição militar desde o domínio português, através do estudo da legislação que regulava o serviço das armas.
The paper aims to discuss the issue of the military recruitment for the Cisplatine War between the years 1825 and 1828 in the province of Rio Grande do Sul, part of the Empire of Brazil, and in the Banda Oriental, now Uruguay, a member of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata. Through the study of correspondences from the military authorities on both sides of the conflict and guided by the contributions of the Brazilian "new military history", becomes a study of the legislation that regulated this practice, the interpretation of the commanders on these, and the impact on the population by recruiters. It is focused on that last question, the resistance offered by people, in different ways, to prevent men from serving in armies and militias who fought for dominance of the Banda Oriental. For the case of Brazil, it will be given particular attention to the evolution of the military institution since the Portuguese domination, through the study of legislation that regulated the military service.

Abstract:
My study concerns the social recruitment of infantry soldiers in the Swedish standing army ( indelta armén). The 19th century Swedish army was composed of three parts : hired troops , the conscripts and above all the ”indelta armén”. Indelta armén was unique in the world because of its organizational form. It consisted of infantry soldiers, naval men and cavalry soldiers, which were supported by the landowning farmers. Normally two farmers had the responsibility to find an infantry soldier, to pay him an annual wage and to give him a small-crofters holding; at least this was intended when the system was first organized in the 1680s. The famous author Vilhelm Moberg has written a well-known novel ”Raskens” about one of these soldiers portraying also the whole system as well as the surrounding peasant society. All of the 20000 concerned soldiers lived in the Swedish countryside among the rest of the population. They all got special names,( for example meaning Quick, Prompt, Faithful) still existing as family names of Sweden today. The study concentrates on the question of the social importance of this system in a period of rapid transformation of Swedish society, i.e the end of the 19th century. The most important questions dealt with are: the ones concerning social and geographical recruitment of soldiers (i.e. those ôf the indelta armén), the means of support and education given to these soldiers in special army training schools. One part of the book concerns social mobility among ex-soldiers and a minor study treats their family structure.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the development of the soldier in late-Victorian Britain in light of the movement to rehabilitate the public image of the ordinary ranks initiated by the Cardwell-Childers Reforms. Venerated in popular culture, Tommy Atkins became a symbol of British imperial strength and heroism. Socially, however, attitudes to the rank-and-file were defined by a pragmatic realism purged of such sentiments, the likes of which would characterise the British public’s relationship with their army for over thirty years. Scholars of both imperial culture and the Victorian military have identified this dual persona of Tommy Atkins, however, a dedicated study into the true nature of the soldier’s position has yet to be undertaken. The following research will seek to redress this omission. The soldier is approached through the perspective of three key influences which defined his development. The first influence, the politics of the War Office, exposes a progressive series of schemes which, cultivated for over a decade, sought to redefine the soldier through the popularisation of military service and the professionalisation of the military’s public relations strategy and apparatus. A forgotten component of the Cardwell-Childers Reforms, the schemes have not before been scrutinised. Despite the ingenuity of the schemes devised, the social rehabilitation of the soldier failed, primarily, it will be argued, because the government refused to improve his pay. The public’s response to the Cardwell-Childers Reforms and the British perception of the ordinary soldier in the decades following their introduction form the second perspective. Through surveys of the local and London press and mainstream literature, it is demonstrated the soldier, in part as a result of the reforms, underwent a social transition, precipitated by his entering the public consciousness and encouraged by a resulting fascination in the military life. The final perspective presented in this thesis is from within the rank-and-file itself. Through the examination of specialist newspaper, diary and memoir material the direct experiences of the soldiers themselves are explored. Amid the extensive public and political discussion of their nature and status, the soldier also engaged in the debate. The perspective of the rank-and-file provides direct context for the established perspectives of the British public and the War Office, but also highlights how the soldier both supported and opposed the reforms and was acutely aware of the social status he possessed. This thesis will examine the public and political treatment of the soldier in the late-nineteenth century and question how far the conflicting ideas of soldier-hero and soldier-beggar were reconciled.

La quantification des infirmités en France au XIXe siècle est guidée par deux objectifs principaux. Il s'agit, d'une part, d'établir la répartition géographique de ces infirmités afin d'en évaluer les causes et d'ouvrir des structures d'accueil adaptées (asiles, institutions d'éducation). D'autre part, cela consiste à mesurer les évolutions du nombre des infirmes. Cette thèse étudie ces pratiques de quantification à partir de deux sources : les comptes rendus sur le recrutement de l'armée (publiés à partir de 1818) et qui ne traitent que de générations de jeunes hommes, et les recensements quinquennaux (de 1851 à 1876) qui concernent l'ensemble de la population. Cette thèse examine la construction du chiffre d'infirmes, de sa mise en place à sa remise en cause. Différents éléments sont articulés dans l'analyse. Tout d'abord, nous étudions la place des infirmes dans la société et le rôle de l'État dans leur prise en charge. Nous nous intéressons aussi aux savants (réunis dans des sociétés ou en congrès pour partager leurs recherches) et aux instances de gouvernance (maires, préfets, ministères). Les premiers étudient la population pour des raisons scientifiques, les seconds pour des motifs administratifs. Cette mise en parallèle d'intérêts divergents fait pourtant ressortir une inquiétude commune: celle d'observer une dégénérescence de la population. Des statisticiens et médecins s'attèlent donc à analyser ces nouvelles productions statistiques pour démontrer l'exagération de ces craintes
The enumeration of the infirm in France in the 19th century had several objectives: to map their geographical distribution, in order to better understand the causes of these disabilities and to provide suitable facilities (asylums, educational institutions), but also to track trends in view to potentially control and decrease the size of this group. This study addresses the quantification of disability through two data sources: the five-year censuses (1851-1876) and the reports of army recruitment (published from 1818 onwards).We study how these figures were constructed, from their initial implementation until they started being challenged. To do so, we also explore the place of the disabled in society, and the role of the State in their care. We deal with the interactions between scientists (gathered in learned societies or in conferences to share their research) and various governance bodies (mayors, prefects, ministries). The former studied this population for scientific reasons, while the latter for administrative purposes. Comparing these divergent interests highlights however a common anxiety: that they were observing a degeneration of the population. Because of the regularity of data outputs, time trends, which until then had not been available, could now be constructed. Statisticians and doctors could therefore use these new statistical figures to demonstrate the exaggeration of these fears

Na segunda metade do século XVIII, acirraram-se as disputas entre espanhóis e portugueses pela definição da soberania territorial sobre as colônias americanas. Com as indefinições demarcatórias deflagradas pelo Tratado de Madrid (1750), ambas as Coroas buscaram estabelecer o uti possidetis sobre os territórios fronteiriços através da instalação de fortes militares, povoações e reduções de índios. Esta tese problematiza a expansão dos impérios ibéricos sobre os vales dos rios Guaporé e Paraguai, buscando analisar seus impactos sócioeconômicos sobre populações indígenas e colonos. O objetivo principal é analisar os dispositivos de controle social empregados pelas administrações de ambos os impérios sobre os grupos indígenas que habitavam essa área e sobre os colonos destacados para servir em fortificações e povoações, e as relações de poder entre uns e outros. Dividida em três partes, a tese estuda as formas de controle do espaço nas fortificações, vilas e reduções; as estratégias das políticas indigenistas para atrair e incorporar os grupos fronteiriços às povoações; e a vida cotidiana desses estabelecimentos, especialmente no que tange ao recrutamento militar, ao abastecimento e aos custos para colonos e provedorias das províncias. A hipótese defendida é a de que a delegação de poderes a caciques de grupos aliados e a transferência de parte dos custos da defesa militar das fronteiras aos colonos foram os dispositivos básicos que sustentaram, ainda que com especificidades de cada lado, tanto a expansão portuguesa quanto a espanhola sobre essas regiões centrais da América do Sul.
The disputes between Spaniards and Portuguese on the definition of the territorial sovereignty on American colonies were stimulated in the second half of the seventeenth century. With the fail of the Treaty of Madrid (1750) to demarcate the frontier, both Crowns pretended to establish the uti possidetis through the installation of military forts, villages and missions. This thesis analyses the expansion of the Iberian empires on the valleys of the rivers Guaporé and Paraguay, and focuses on their socioeconomic impacts on indigenous populations and settlers. The main objective is to analyze the mechanisms of social control used by the administrations of both empires on the indigenous groups that inhabited that area and on the settlers that serve in fortifications and lived in villages, and the relationships of power among them. Divided in three parts, this thesis studies the forms of control of the space in the fortifications, villages and missions; the strategies of the indigenist policy to attract and relocate Indians to reservations; and the daily life of those establishments, especially with respect to the military recruitment, provisioning and the costs for settlers and Real Treasury. I argue that the delegation of powers to caciques of allied groups and the transfer of part of the military costs to the same settlers were the basic devices with which the system could be sustained, although with specificities on each side, in both Portuguese and Spaniard expansion on those central areas of South America.

I denna studie presenteras forskning om varumärkesbyggande genom reklamfilm. Syftet är att undersöka hur Försvarsmakten genom sina reklamfilmer arbetar med varumärkesbyggande för att rekrytera medarbetare. Efter återinförandet av värnplikten år 2017 lanserade Försvarsmakten ett flertal reklamkampanjer. För att behandla syftet har en forskningsfråga utformats och med hjälp av ett kvalitativt angreppssätt har det insamlade empiriska materialet analyserats. Detta i form av en innehållsanalys på tre reklamfilmer från kampanjerna. Analysen grundar sig i teorier gällande kommunikation och varumärkesbyggande. Reklamfilmerna tolkas utifrån semiotik och retorik för att sedan kopplas till hur Försvarsmakten bygger sitt varumärke. Resultatet i denna studie visar att Försvarsmaktens reklamfilmer primärt fokuserar på att skapa en positiv helhetsbild av varumärket istället för att endast rekrytera personal. Utifrån analysen framställs organisationen som jämställd, modern och inkluderande vilket är associationer som är nya för Försvarsmakten. Positiva associationer bidrar till ett attraktivt varumärke som kan leda till att målgruppen söker sig till organisationen. För att effektivisera organisationens rekryteringsprocess bör de trycka hårdare på de fördelar som arbetet innefattar. Denna studie bidrar med en viss förståelse för betydelsen av ett starkt varumärke oavsett vad syftet med marknadsföringen är. För att få mer kunskap om varumärkesbyggande i Försvarsmaktens reklamfilmer rekommenderas framtida forskning gällande vad som lockar rekryter att söka sig till Försvarsmakten.
This study presents research on branding through commercials. The purpose is to investigate how the Swedish Armed Forces work with branding in their commercials to recruit employees. Following the reintroduction of military service in 2017, the Swedish Armed Forces launched a number of advertising campaigns. In order to address the purpose of the study, a research question has been designed and, using a qualitative approach, the collected empirical material has been analyzed. This has been done in form of a content analysis of three commercials from the campaigns. The analysis is based on theories of Branding and communication. The commercials are analyzed on the basis of semiotic and rhetoric theories and thereafter to how the Swedish Armed Forces build their brand. The results of the study shows that the Swedish Armed Forces’ commercials primarily focuses on creating a positive image of the brand rather than just recruiting. Based on the analysis the organization is presented as equal, modern and inclusive, which are associations that are new to the Armed Forces’. Positive associations contribute to an attractive brand image that can lead to the target group applying to the organization. In order to make the recruitment process in the organization more efficient, they should focus more on highlighting the benefits of working there. This study contributes to an understanding of the importance of a strong brand regardless the purpose of the marketing. In order to gain more knowledge about brand building in the Armed Forces commercials, it is recommended to do future research on what actually attracts recruits to apply to join the Armed Forces. The study is written in Swedish.

This study is focused on the spreading wave of militancy in the Muslim youth after 9/11 era.  The role Al Qaeda is researched in understanding this problem in the case study of Pakistan. Al Qaeda is considered as the nursery for the rising of militancy in the Muslims while Pakistan is the birthplace of Al Qaeda. The problem of militancy rose to the alarming level in Pakistan after 9/11 when the Pakistani state started to support the US in the war against terror which Al Qaeda and other Islamists consider as the war against Islam. The recruitment strategies of Al Qaeda and other Pakistani militant groups like Tihreak Taliban Pakistan (TTP or Pakistani Taliban movement) are studied through the discourse analysis. The primary data from the militant sources like the speeches, books and interviews of their leadership and ideologues, their official magazines and press releases are selected for this research. All this data is available in Urdu language which is translated to the English for this research. The theoretical framework of this research is based on the “Soft theory” of Josef Nye (2006) and the “three dimensions of Power” theory of Steven Lukes (2005). The results of this research show that the militants mostly use different types of arguments in their messages to the youth in their efforts for recruiting them to the path of militancy which include mostly the religious arguments. Along with it, they also attract youth to their path on targeting their grievances and hopes. They present to them the path of militancy as an end and the only way of revenge for their all grievances. These results also show that the militants also present militancy to the youth as the only mean for achievement of their various hopes which they believe these Muslims youth cannot get without militancy.

This work is the result of trying to construct a vision of the Compulsory Military Service in Brazil. It focuses on the role of the Army, understood as a total institution, whose task is to promote, through the recruitment of soldiers, as well as homeland defense, the construction of patriotic, civic society and the discipline. It also shows the resistance, cunning and conventions, developed by the recruits to confront powers with which they are subjected. In this confrontation of powers, these individuals reflect the intentions of the institution and rework them according to their interests, reinventing their daily lives, their lives. The present research also collaborates with the expansion of issues facing the Brazilian military history, including in their analysis and social actors who have long been forgotten in the name of a elitist and exclusionary historiography. Taking the case study as a tool, it selects the practice of Military Service in the city of Dourados/MS between 2000 and 2008 as a sample of the object for analysis. It covers, therefore, a current issue which is known by the Academy as the History of the Present Time. It operates methodologically with qualitative and quantitative data. The supporting documentation of the sources that feed the research is quite diverse, encompassing bibliographic material, information collected by electronic means, in addition to substantial support from oral sources, arranged from interviews with people who have lived the experience of life in the barracks, as Brazilian Army recruits. To finish with, it plots considerations about the mistake in thinking that the Military Service is responsible for the construction of patriotic, civic and disciplinary identities of youth, but rather a means of survival than an example of love of country
O presente trabalho é resultado da tentativa de construir uma visão sobre o Serviço Militar Obrigatório no Brasil. Enfoca o papel do Exército, entendido como Instituição Total, cuja tarefa é promover, através do recrutamento de soldados, além da defesa da pátria, a construção de sentimentos patrióticos, cívicos e o disciplinamento da sociedade. Mostra, também, as resistências, astúcias e convenções, elaboradas pelos recrutas para enfrentar poderes aos quais são submetidos. Neste confronto de poderes, tais sujeitos traduzem as intenções da Instituição e reelabora-nas conforme seus interesses, reinventando seu cotidiano, suas vidas. A pesquisa busca, ainda, colaborar com a expansão de temas voltados para a História Militar Brasileira, incluindo nas suas análises, atores sociais que por muito tempo foram esquecidos em nome de uma historiografia elitista e excludente. Tendo o estudo de caso como técnica de trabalho, seleciona a prática do Serviço Militar na cidade de Dourados/MS entre 2000 e 2008 como amostra do objeto para análise. Determining the empirical causes of recruitment to nationalist militant organizations is a pertinent topic, given the global rise in neo-nationalist attitudes. In this article, I seek to explore one prospective cause through a case study of the Kurds in Iran. The Kurdish population within Iran has witnessed rising levels of insurgency into militant nationalist organizations. These organizations routinely conduct armed operations against Iranian forces in historically Kurdish regions within Iran, with the goal of reclaiming territory and halting perceived inequitable treatment of the Kurdish minority by the Iranian government. My research intends to explore the root causes of this rise in violence and whether historical political mobilization within Kurdish-dominated regions of Iran has resulted in the increased Kurdish insurgency efforts. I employ an original database and three models to test the relationship between an area's mobilization history and its subsequent insurgency recruitment levels. Ultimately, my results point to contextual variables as the driving factor behind insurgency recruitment compared to the aforementioned historical variables. My research provides a foundation for future exploration into the historical causes of Kurdish insurgency in Iran. A more sophisticated approach to data collection may generate a wider pool of data from which further analysis may be conducted

Resumo: O recrutamento para o Exército e para a Armada durante o período Imperial foi sempre uma tarefa árdua de se concretizar. Baseando-se no recrutamento forçado, escolhia-se aquela parcela despossuída de recursos (mendigos, ex-escravos, criminosos etc) que não possuíam alguma profissão ou um ofício bem determinado. Com a criação da Lei 2556 de 26 de setembro de 1874 e a promulgação do Decreto 5881 de 27 de fevereiro de 1875, o recrutamento para o Exército e a Armada passaria a ter como base o sorteio universal. A Lei do Sorteio de 1874 estabelecia que qualquer homem livre ou liberto entre 19 e 30 anos estaria à disposição das forças armadas por um período mínimo de 6 anos. A nova legislação alterou radicalmente o método que havia sobre o recrutamento militar até então, gerando assim movimentos sediciosos em todo o Império. Tais considerações serão objeto de estudo desta pesquisa, que procura examinar a forma como ocorreram essas manifestações contra a nova lei de recrutamento na província de São Paulo, destacando a região nordeste da província, entre os anos de 1875 e o final do período Imperial. Abstract: The recruitment for the army and the Armada during theImperial period was always an arduous task of realising. Based on forced recruitment, it was chosen that dispossessed portion of resources (beggars, former slaves, criminals, etc) who did not have any profession or a well-established craft. With the creation of Law 2556 of September 26, 1874 and the promulgation of Decree 5881 of February 27, 1875, recruitment for the Army and Navy would be based on the universal draw. The Law of the Draw of 1874 established that any free or released man between the ages of 19 and 30 would be at the disposal of the armed forces for a minimum period of 6 years. The new legislation radically altered the method of military recruitment hitherto, thus generating seditious movements throughout the Empire. Such considerations will be the subject of a study of this research, which examines how these manifestations occurred against the new recruitment law in the province of São Paulo, highlighting the northeast region of the province between the years 1875 and the end of the Imperial period. Based on the assumption that the Brazilian Imperial State intended that recruitment reach all levels of society, aiming at a modernization of its armed forces, molding them in the European mold, was Law 2556 really a post-war reform initiative? Försvarsmakten står idag inför en stor utmaning att täcka sitt personalbehov. I och med övergången från pliktbaserat till frivilligbaserat försvar, konkurrerar de om arbetskraften och det blir allt svårare att rekrytera nödvändig personal. De som påbörjar utbildningar som är tänkta att leda till fast anställning, slutar i hög grad innan utbildningen genomförts. Avsikten med vår undersökning är att belysa försvarsmaktens rekrytering och personalförsörjningssystem samt bidra med förbättringsförslag av deras rekryteringsprocess. En metodkombination har genomförts i form av intervjuer, tre observationer samt litteraturstudie. Elva intervjuer med representanter från arbetsgivar- respektive arbetstagarsidan inom Försvarsmakten. Observationerna bestod av ett besök på informationscenter, medverkan på ett seminarium samt ett event med informatörer på en gymnasieskola. Resultatet visade på stor okunskap i målgruppen om vad en anställning inom Försvarsmakten innebär. Dels på grund av dåliga förkunskaper bland de sökande och dels på grund av att Försvarsmakten inte, redan i inledningsfasen informerar tillräckligt. Många som påbörjar en utbildning genomför den inte, vilket är till nackdel för Försvarsmakten. För att få genuint intresserade personer att söka, anser vi att man bör satsa på mer information redan i förstadiet till ansökningarna.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the role of national defence in British parliamentary politics between 1794 and 1812. It suggests that previous analyses of the late eighteenth-century political milieu insufficiently explore the impact of war on the structure of the state. Work by J.E. Cookson, Linda Colley, J.C.D. Clark, and Paul Langford depicts a decentralised state that had little direct involvement in developing a popular “British” patriotism. Here I argue that the threat of a potential French invasion during the wars against Revolutionary and Napoleonic France provoked a drive for centralisation. Nearly all the defence measures enacted during the period gave the government a much greater degree of control over British manpower and resources. The readiness of successive governments to involve large sections of the nation in the war effort through military service, financial contributions, and appeals to the British “spirit”, resulted in a much more inclusive sense of citizenship in which questions of national participation and political franchise were unlinked. National identity was also affected, and the focus on military defence of the British Isles influenced political attitudes towards the regular army. By 1810, however, the nation was disillusioned by the lengthy struggle with France. The result of lingering political weakness was that attention shifted from national defence onto domestic corruption and venality. The aftermath of the Irish Act of Union, too, demonstrated the limits of attempts to centralise the policy of the whole United Kingdom. Significantly, however, the debates over the relationship between the centre and the localities in the 1830s and 1840s, and the response to a new French invasion threat in the 1850s and 1860s, revived themes addressed during the 1790s and 1800s. The political reaction to the invasion threats between 1794 and 1812 ultimately had more in common with a Victorian state bureaucracy than an eighteenth-century ancien régime.

O esforÃo de guerra demandou do governo imperial um amplo movimento de recrutamento militar atà antes nunca visto no Brasil e sentido em todo o territÃrio nacional. O processo de extraÃÃo estatal de contingentes recrutados e destacados para o conflito, e a interferÃncia do governo central na dinÃmica da vida local e nas relaÃÃes de poder estabelecidas, gerou uma grande tensÃo social na ProvÃncia do CearÃ. Em outras palavras, a ampliaÃÃo do recrutamento significou adentrar em Ãreas de influÃncia e domÃnio dos poderosos locais, o que exigia do Estado imperial uma complexa e tensa negociaÃÃo com os potentados. Abstract The purpose of this study is to provide reference for management team to implement the marketing strategy of recruitment by investigating the recruiting process in accordance with the new military recruiting system. The study starts with reviewing the literature of Chinese historical military service systems as well as other countries in the world;the related theories of marketing strategies. In this study, qualitative research method has been used while targeting the military recruiting department as the unit of analysis. The significant contribution of this study are: 1.The combination of “marketing strategy” and “voluntary system” is the most suitable practice for Taiwan while realizing “economic benefit” and “responding to the need of contemporary war”. 2.Recruiting activities based on “customer-oriented”, such as web-based marketing;incentive system;customer feedback;diversified-channels(eg.7-11,FamilyMart)enhance the entire image of armed forces and recruitment in term of quality and quantity. 3.With respect to utilization of recreiting media, “events marketing”;“experiential marketing” and “outsouring to professional advertising firm” are recommend in order to acquire positive responses from potential candidates.

This study based on the concept of the open talent economy proposed by Schwartz, Liakopoulos & Barry (2013) and uses the depth interview method to collect data on the military recruitment. Finally, review the current lack of recruitment, and use the open talents economic ecosystem to build the innovation model of military recruitment. The study found the ecosystem of military recruitment for open talent economic includes five categories : balance sheet talent, partnership talent, borrowed talent, freelance talent, open source talent. The recruitment sources of balance sheet talent type are military students, ROTC, volunteer service, and the recruitment strategy should focus on creating a strong patriotism and solve tuition, employment, income issues. The recruitment sources of partnership talent type are R&D alternative service , the recruitment strategy should combination of the place of service and work place. The borrowed talent type recruitment sources are order talent, recruitment strategy should focus on both education and employment. The recruitment sources of freelance talent type are mercenaries, recruitment strategy should focus on the high salary. The recruitment sources of open source talent type are military fans, recruitment strategy should provide military experience opportunities.

Due to the transformation of our national defense policy, the Ministry of National Defense has shifted toward the voluntary military service system which is already implemented and tested whether it suits for Taiwan or not. However, the result shows that manpower recruitment of volunteer military is still a fiasco. To be able to put forward good suggestions for our national military recruiting, this study was designed both to investigate the degree of influence between advertising appeals and target recruitment’s involvement and to understand the connection between involvement of recruits and the will of recruits as a volunteer military. The study used quasi-experiment to explore “3x2 factorial experiment design”. The independent variables are the emotional, neutral-rational, and neutral-emotional advertising appeals. The dependent variable is the degree of change in the amount of the recruit’s involvement. The intervening variable is different level involvement of recruit. The external variables are different types of recruiting route and advertising. In this study we used convenience sampling model which had 387 valid samples who are recruited from northern region army training center. The result shows that the involvement changed significantly different most by emotional advertising appeals, more low level involvement recruits’ increased involvement degree than high level involvement recruits after they watched advertising. The involvement to a recruit has high negative correlation before recruited. Both the recruit’s involvement and the willingness to join volunteer military have moderate positive correlation after recruited. However, different types of recruitment route and advertising not showed significantly different. This results of empirical analysis will offer to responsible units for the purpose of reference.

The system of military service is a program enforced by one country to recruit citizens to serve their country by means of national law. It is the foundation of national military and defense. According to the factors of internal and external environment that one country will encounter, the different threatening degree of the nations, as well as the worldwide trend, each country needs to take the overall elements into consideration to create a military service system that meets its own requirement. Ever since the enforcement of our government’s military service system started in 1936, it has gone through many adjustments due to the internal and external changes of the diplomatic environment. So far, we have been programming and carrying out the goal of extensive recruitment of soldiers to comply with the acknowledgement of most people; however, public opinions diverge greatly. Thus, this article focuses on the issue of enlarging the recruitment program in the future. First of all, in terms of our military service development and current system, this study will survey the formation of this system. Also, regarding the impact caused by the factors of internal and external environment on the current military service system, this study aims to evaluate the thought of extensive recruitment policy for the purpose of providing the authorities concerned with some reference to set up the goal of future military system. My major studies are as follows: Ⅰ. Wherever there is threat from the Mainland China, there is no way to abolish the soldier recruitment law. Ⅱ. Readjust the reasonable structure of military force. Ⅲ. Excel in the way of recruiting the soldiers to strengthen our military force. Ⅴ. Increase the importance of soldiers’ qualification. Ⅵ. Raise the salaries and promote policies related to benefits. Based on the survey, this study will kindly recommend the following views: Ⅰ. Promote the social function and value of military service system. Ⅱ. Stimulate the market surroundings of soldier recruitment law. Ⅲ. Equip the extensive recruitment of soldiers with supplementary measures.

The results are as follows: 1.The wost important five customers’ expectations of service quality are as thefollowing sequence: (1) Registration information will be kept confidential (2) Registration schedule will be arranged appropriately (3) The information service needs to be courteous and friendly(4) Value customers’ questions (5) Notify the customer ASAP when there’s something wrong in counseling enrollment. 2.Customers have significant differences between service quality and service expectations cognition.3.Customers have significant expectation differences on "gender", "marriage", "age", "education", "former professional army", "guardian of occupation", "residence", "army before income" and "guardian income" in the desired indeed there is a significant difference in the quality of service.4.Customers indeed have significant difference on "gender", "marriage", "age", "residence", "army before income" and "guardian income".5.Use IPA method to construct enterprise resource strategies required by the "fourth quadrant - over emphasis on service quality in the project area." If service personnel recruitment initiative to assist the needs of customers migrating to "the second quadrant - enhance the service quality improvement project area." If service-related information is correct and recruiting staff provides the quickly service for the reasonable demands of the customer, a reduction in the fourth quadrant of resources and increase the second quadrant resources. In 1988, the administration of the Republic of China carried out the project of reforming the armed forces, but the implementation of this project was not effective. The compulsory service male have so harassments, i.e. going abroad, obtaining employment, and enter a higher school. In 2008, the Department of Defense began to employ the recruiting system of the army for reforming vigorously. The Department of Defense developed a set of 6P recruitment marketing strategies and expanded its advocacy team''s strengths through a unified marketing channel to enhance a series of policies to attract volunteerism. This study aims to explore the development strategy of Taiwan''s recruiting system, and hope to understand the key success factors of volunteer recruitment through internal marketing, external marketing and interactive marketing.

The purpose of this research is to conduct in-depth interviews on the motives of the current recruiting system and the changes in the mentality of the current recruiting system, so as to learn how to start or where the system needs to be strengthened ,in order to understand the impact of voluntary military service within the recruitment system. Then, to propose concrete recommendations. This study utilizes a survey method with the questionnaire, and the sampling target is people from age 18 to 34 in the southern region who want to join the voluntary military service and those who only have little willingness. The descriptive statistics, and logistic analysis were adopted to analyze the motivation of joining the military service. Furthermore, interviews were conducted with the researcher’s colleagues who serve in the military. The study found that due to the effects of declining birthrate and social concepts, the annuity reform system, and the workloads remained the same after downsizing. Therefore, the difficulties of military recruitment increase,the retention rate decrease annually which influences the existing military structure in Taiwan and our country's security.

This study will explore how to recruit volunteer military soldier message combined with flat persuasive strategies, electronic media and promotional activities spread pipeline effectively, spread to the high school and college draftees in service or community youth under the mercenary policy to implement, and recruiting minded persons to join the army. This research collecting suggestions by adopted document analysis, focus groups, interviews with experts and seminars, etc. The research focus grouped into ten propositions, and complete interpretation. The research findings include: (a) at present all kinds of persuasive strategies and publicity activities belong feasible; (b) it is closely related to the military's media image building and recruiting effectiveness; (c) the low social status of servicemen will affect the willingness of young people to join the army; (d) economic factor is a priority of young people to join the army; (e) most people do not understand the "volunteer-force system". Finally, this study proposes six recommendations such as make good use of campus military training instructors’ energy, using data envelopment analysis (DEA) to assess the performance of propaganda, etc.

In the past few decades, the progress of military technology changes the forms of recent wars. In the Second Persian Gulf War, the variety of sophisticated and high-tech weapons domainate the battle-field, and changed the forms of wars. In the purpose of cultivating high quality and special talents, take the Uniterd Status and France as instances, under the condition of not affecting the preparataion for war, the new military recruiting service system begins to evolve. Our country finally developed from the conscription system towards the enlisting system at the 91th year of the Republican Era. Based on the program of conscription system policy executing in 2012, the whole program divides into three phases, planning to fulfill the target of one hundred percent recruiting rate before the end of 2014. The result reveals that recruitment fails to meet the expectation. The uncertainty of policys not only causes negative public perception but also influences teenagers’ career developments. The main purpose of the research focuses on debating the recruiting and retetion policy of military volunteer in the researcher’s unit to reflect on the outcomes of recruiting.With the approach of interview and the secondary data analysis to realize grassroots soldiers’ expectations and what makes them feel disappointed. To assume some certain factors that might influence the willing of military voluteers and can be developed recruiting tools. The tools can enhance persuading strengths and promote recruiting achievements. The outcomes of objective research are shown below: The lower the education level of the military persons, higher the voluteer intention. The more the family support of the military persons, higher the voluteer intention. The healthier circumstance on physical and mental health assessmen shows of the military persons, higher the voluteer intention. The lower earned income before serving of the military persons, higher the voluteer intention. Respondants without carrer planning have higher the voluteer intention. In the other hand, games market grow vigorously, marketing practices are diversify in games industrial, various marketing tools has been used at different stage on games propaganda to attract players. Whether the integration of products placement or marketing tools, games itself plays as a part of media and products to increase the possibility of combination on marketing strategies and games. There are several kinds of study used games as a propaganda concept; unfortunately, not any relative study on military recruitment with games. Military, Games and Marketing are three different fields, in fact military attempt to utilize games as a recruit tools, there are some research about marketing on military image and marketing strategies. Along with coming mercenary system in the future, an aggressive recruitment strategies need to be well-done prepares in advance. The purpose of this study is to find out the possibility and expect some contribution on games as recruitment strategies. How does military confront this new media environment, and produce a suitable way on recruitment? From marketer on recruitment center of National Armed Forces to marketing specialist of local games industrial, the information of this study are collected by in-depth interview method, to comprehend military recruitment strategies and games marketing strategies. The study synthesizes all interview information to induce a marketing model for military recruitment by using games on placement and integrated marketing.    The study discover that to enlist oneself in military service is not like normal products, people will not take any action if just implement some propaganda, the most important things was to build up the image of military by various marketing strategies in long term. The study suggests that placing the recruit information into games unintentionally to rise up the positive image of military.    In addition, some low cost games like “web-page games” and “mobile games” are the better choice for military on games fabrication. Marketing strategies can be enhance by integration of marketing tools, can attempt to use “lucky draw” and “mobile, MSN communication media” to increase marketing effect.

This study explores the factors that affect military recruiting performance by means of semi-structured in-depth interview with recruiting staff who have more than three years of experience in recruiting. The results reveal that the influence factors of military recruiting performance can be divided into personal factors, customer services, organizational factors, parental ideas, and promotion factors. First, personal factors include personality traits, image and etiquette, professional accomplishment, and communication skills. Second, customer services include pre-test counseling and after-sales service. Third, organizational factors include military service policy, responsibility area, part-time recruitment, and incentive bonuses. Forth, parental idea only has its own item. Last, promotion factors include communication and commercial advertising and interpersonal relationship. Based on the result, this research provides managerial implications for the reference of promoting military recruiting performance.
