Examining military personnel’s psychological states is an effective way to prevent negative mental health consequences during their deployment in a war zone. The present study identifies changes in the psychological states of military personnel (n = 192) during a 6-month deployment in a war zone in eastern Ukraine. The results confirmed both of our proposed hypotheses. First, with regard to time limits on military personnel’s deployment on the front lines in eastern Ukraine on the basis of examined psychological states, the estimated recommended deployment duration was three months. The University of Georgia Department of Geography’s Center for Geospatial Research (CGR), with the support of the National Park Service (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Inventory (VMI) Program, described and mapped vegetation at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park (HOBE). This mapping effort was accomplished through collaboration with the NPS Southeast Coast Network (SECN), the North Carolina office of NatureServe (/Durham, N.C.), and Atkins North America, Inc. A final map of vegetation communities was created for Horseshoe Bend National Military Park (NMP) to the association level of the National V

This report describes the full-scale evaluation of prototype submersible matting systems (SUBMAT) at a test site at the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Vicksburg, Mississippi, site. The SUBMAT prototypes were designed to bridge the gap between high and low tide at a beach interface to enable 24-hour operation at an expeditionary watercraft landing site. This phase of the SUBMAT prototype development was intended to determine prototype system durability by applying military vehicle loads representing a combat brigade insertion across a littoral zone. The two mat systems evalu

The use of armed drones, particularly to conduct targeted killings outside formal war zones, is highly contentious. In the contemporary context, where conflict has moved beyond the theatres of traditional warfare to take place in undefined battle zones, and is chiefly characterized by counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations, drone use has brought to the fore critical questions on civilian casualties, the rule of law, secrecy and lack of accountability, among others. This paper has been developed as part of a project focusing on the policy implications for the UK and the EU of the us

The Rush Valley 30' x 60' quadrangle extends southwest and west from the greater Salt Lake City–Provo metropolitan area with land use varied between public, military, Indian reservation, and private. This 1:62,500-scale geologic map will aid the proper management of land, water, and other resources. The map area lies within the eastern Basin and Range Province. Mountain ranges are composed of unexposed basement rocks overlain by exposed Neoproterozoic through Triassic rocks that are about 10.4 miles (16.8 km) thick, and by numerous Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic units (~47 to 20 Ma). Abstract:
The Geospatial Remote Assessment for Ingress Locations (GRAIL) Tools software is a geospatial product developed to locate austere entry landing zones (LZs) for military aircraft. Using spatial datasets like land classification and slope, along with predefined LZ geometry specifications, GRAIL Tools generates binary suitability filters that distinguish between suitable and unsuitable terrain. GRAIL Tools combines input suitability filters, searches for LZs at user‐defined orientations, and plots results. To refine GRAIL Tools, we: (a) verified software output; (b) conducted validation assessmen

Approximately 300 Americans are estimated to have traveled or attempted to join the Islamic State (ISIS) as part of the group’s campaign in Syria and Iraq between 2013 and 2019. These individuals joined more than 53,000 men, women, and minors from roughly 80 countries. Often referred to as foreign (terrorist) fighters (FTF), these are individuals from third countries who travel to join a terrorist group to support its activities. In the United States (U.S.) context, the FTF designation does not denote the act of fighting itself, but rather the support of a designated foreign terrorist organiza
