Millets are consumed by more than one-third of the world's population. They hold significant importance as a staple food in many developing countries due to their ability to thrive under adverse weather conditions, such as limited rainfall. Furthermore, millet boasts numerous nutritious and medicinal properties. They are nutritionally comparable, and in some aspects, superior to other cereals, offering higher levels of protein, energy, vitamins, and minerals. Future trends should prioritize increasing millet consumption in developing countries, as this could contribute to an industrial revolut

Millets are valuable as they can grow even in worst climate conditions and are very nutritious for health, being high in fiber, protein, and minerals. This makes them important for food security today. While millets have a rich history and nutritional benefits, their production has decreased recently due to changing farming methods and food preferences. A new era of natural gas exploration is spreading across the continental United States and Canada. Through a technique called hydraulic fracturing (fracking), huge deposits of oil shale, like the Marcellus and Utica deposits that extend from the Appalachians and into Canada, are now producing enough gas to meet North America’s needs for the next 14 years. The boom in gas exploration has opened up new markets for pipeline and joint coating materials to provide corrosion protection. Estimates of pipeline construction in Pennsylvania alone are in the range of 12,000 to 27,000 miles by 2030.

In 2021 a program was initiated to characterize the extent of the issues and develop mold remediation and preventative processes and technologies. This paper will review the findings of ship inspections performed to determine the extent of mold issues across the Navy and present data on the development and testing of Navy interior coatings with fungistatic additives. In this effort, 26 ships were inspected and sampled across 6 naval bases. The ship inspections determined the most common ship spaces for mold gro

Abstract The increasing aggressiveness of corrosive environments in the pulp & paper industry over the years has caused a gradual increase in the alloying contents of the so-called stainless steels and nickel alloys by judicious additions of Cr, Mo, Ni, Cu & nitrogen to the iron matrix or Cr & Mo to the nickel matrix. This has led to formulations of new alloys with improved and superior corrosion resistance, excellent fabricability, and which are cost effective. This paper presents data on some of the many field tests being run at various pulp & paper mills throughout the world

Abstract The questionable integrity of operating deaerator vessels in the pulp and paper industry were brought to the attention of mill owners and insurance companies by a statement issued in September 1983 by the Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI): "Three deaerator storage vessels have ruptured, one of which resulted in fatalities and considerable plant downtime." As recommended by TAPPI, industry-wide inspections of deaerator heater and storage vessels revealed that the problem was widespread. Abstract Subsequent to the development of the Miller Number (ASTM G75-82, Fig. 1), as a means of investigating the abrasivity of pumpable slurries, a period of time was required to recognize all of the aspects of corrosion as it affects the destructive qualities of slurries, particiularly those mixed with water where there is always a propensity for some degree of corrosion to occur. Probably the most prevalent form of corrosion in slurries is that from dissolved oxygen (air), along with the possible effects from the solution of soluble materials in the solids. Abstract Protective coatings for structural steel in pulp and paper mills are often selected on the basis of intuition and performance in unrelated applications. Rarely are both qualitative and quantitative information available on steel coatings performance in the unique environment of the mill. This paper presents current results of practical experience and laboratory research on the use of hot dip galvanizing in pulp and paper environment. The combination of descriptive performance data and the predictive value of quantitative results demonstrates the viability of galvanizing in the pulp an

Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as “3D printing,” is often touted as a sustainable technology, especially for metal components, since it produces either net or near-net shapes versus traditionally machined pieces from larger mill products. While traditional machining from mill products is often the case in aerospace, most of the metal parts used in the world are made from flat-rolled metal and are quite efficient in utilization. Additionally, some aspects of the AM value chain are often not accounted for when determining sustainability. Unsettled Issues in Additive Manufacturing and Im

This issue touches all aspects of the aerospace industry, from frequent flyer miles to aircraft maintenance and drives tremendous inefficiency and cost. In response to this focus, industry guidelines were developed to address human factors issues in control room design and plant maintainability, among other issues.
