Abstract : Body is not just object, but subject. As such, makes up the clown, mimetic persona present in different cultures and investigated in this thesis. In this sense, we asked about the places of body in clown art, especially in their moments of mimesis, game and experience. The Oeuvre of Walter Benjamin inspired the research. To do so, spectacles (live and video), workshops and autobiographies were analyzed, as well as interviews with artists. The text is composed by two parts: Fragments on the clown and the body and About some places the body in the experience of being a clown. The thesis concludes with a counterpoint between the children play and that of clown: the purpose of the latest, unlike the child, is to surprise and confuse - two important triggers mechanisms of laughter. To think about the art of clown as artwork allows reflecting on its ambivalence and even of the culture. Both are a combination of Unheimlich and appeasement, never completely achieved, fear. As renouncing violence, the wild participates in the creative process, while the combination of technical and mimesis provides the outcome of the process.

Full textThis thesis takes three passages of Karl Marxs work which bring out aesthetic subjects: the formation of senses in the Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts of 1844, the famous passage on the epic in the Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy - Introduction, 1857, and the epistolary debate between Marx, Engels and Lassalle on the tragedy written by the latter, Franz von Sickingen, held in 1859. In those contexts, we search for Marxs contributions to the problem of artistic mimesis, objectivity and specificity of art. Objectification, mimesis, historicity of genres, artistic reflection specificity, individual and universality in artistic work, artistic genre and revolution are points approached. In order to address these issues, we put Marx in dialogue with relevant moments in aesthetic tradition, particularly points present in Aristotle, Shakespeare and Schiller, Lessing, Hegel and Feuerbach. Laterally, some consequences for contemporary Marxism are brought to light, such as Marx\'s critique of political art. The work counts on the contributions of G. Lukács and M. Lifschitz, for whom Marx\'s work provides the main lines of a coherent aesthetic thought, despite its sparse form.

This research deals with the living statues of Fortaleza-Ce in two spaces of acting: Ferreira Square (PraÃa do Ferreira) and Beira-Mar Avenue. During the years of 2013 and 2014 the performers were observed, chosen and interviewed, having as the bases of the interviews the narratives of their lives/trajectories. This resource was used for the comprehension of the individuals and their opinions about the work they do and as guide/inspiration for the theoretical and analytical path to follow. Departing from the observations and interviews the theoretical analysis founds itself on mimesis, understanding it as the base of the work and knowledge of these performers whose living statues are the result of a process of collage/(re)creation of diverse influences and images coming from what circulates in their sociocultural environment, an imitation of the material statuary (dead) whose base is the performersâ own bodies (alive). Upon this essential pair of opposed terms (dead x alive) unfolds another fundamental one for the practice and its esthetical end: immobility x mobility. The game between these complementary opposed is in the performance of the living statue and in its silence communication with the audience (in the relation between both) guided in certain theatricality. The living statues also evoke a tension between the legitimate and their marginal place as regards the art and formal work, tension between other and also opposed terms that define the doing of these performers as a social gestus. Full textThis is a thesis on the fundamental principles of corporeal mime according to etienne decroux. The author would like to emphasize that this is not a detailed description of exercices and figures. Part one covers the early history of pantomime and outlines the characteristics of the original art form to give, in juxtaposition, definition to corporeal mime. Part two is an overview of decroux's career. Part three consists of several chapters devoted to the decrousian doctrine : the rejection of original pantomime ; the concept of mime as art ; the importance of the body ; decroux's concept of the actor and his attitude toward the audience. Part four takes a look at his productions and his methods of research. Part five studies his accomplishments and illuminates his ideas on realism, as well as his usage of comedy and drama, his choice of subjects, and his style. The conclusion brings into relief : 1) the role of ethics in decroux's aesthetic ; 2) how profoundly decroux is a reflection of his era and ; 3)the relation of corporeal mime with oriental tradition

Full textThis dissertation intends to examine the relationship between poetic elocution and tech-nical demonstration in Manilius Astronomica. By considering the poem as an opus del-icately interwoven in between two discourse genres, the technical discourse of Hellenis-tic astrology and the poetic one of didactic poetry, I investigate the abovementioned relationship under three points of view: that of the persona doctoris, under which I study the kinds of limitations imposed on the composition of the poets (vates) true utterance; that of the doctrina, under which I present, analyze and interpret numerous cases of variation in poetic expression applied to the didactic exposition of the true astrological matter of numbers, names and rationes; and that of the persona discipuli, under which I consider the problem of the understanding of technical matter and inter-pret it in a broader poetic context. Thus I intend to demonstrate how Manilus poem puts together an essentially poetic and not exclusively technical representation of the astrological ars, and, consequently, point out some meanings in which the non-mimetic poetry of Manilus could be said to be mimetic.
