The minbar is an important mosque element found in the prayer hall. A range of height, width and length is available. The proportion of the minbar to the prayer hall is sometimes overlooked, diminishing the interior aesthetic value. The golden ratio is a design choice that is vital in developing the optimum product design. It is often recognised that using this ratio effectively is a terrific method to create. Thus, this study aims to apply the Golden Ratio principle to the minbar by describing the aesthetic value and interior proportion mathematically. This study determined the appropriate ra

Abstract This study explores the epigraphical program of Mamluk preaching pulpits (minbar, pl. manabir), focusing on Quranic and other religious inscriptions. Quranic verses are the most frequently employed inscription, while other religious texts are occasionally cited. These inscriptions emphasize the benefits of endowing mosques, the significance of minbar placement within the mosque, and practices of Muslim devotion comprising the Friday prayer. This article proposes that inscriptions are specifically chosen to signify the minbar as a place for preaching, both for the Friday noon (ḫuṭba) a

Abstract Traditionally, art historians have viewed the art of medieval Morocco through the lens of Islamic Iberia, which is regarded as the culturally superior center and model for the region. However, more recent studies are beginning to show that, rather than Moroccan patrons and artisans passively absorbing an Andalusi model, the rulers of the Almoravid and Almohad regimes were adopting aspects of this model in very deliberate ways. These studies suggest that Andalusi works of art were part of a conscious appropriation of styles as well as material in a very physical sense, which were imbue

The Minbar of Salah Al-Din is considered a masterpiece of traditional Islamic arts and crafts heritage. It stood in Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem for nearly 800 years until it was burned down completely in 1969. In 1993, King Hussein of Jordan gave instructions to initiate the process of reconstructing the Minbar based on old photos of the original one and small wooden pieces that remained after the fire. The reconstruction job was commissioned in 2002 and finished in 2006 as a replica of the original one. This paper discusses the lessons learned from the reconstruction process through the analy

This study explores the identity characteristics of the Hayat Ağacı (Tree of Life) motif in the decorative arts of the Seljuks, Ottomans, and Southeast Asia. Through field-based research and observational methods, it examines the consistent presence of this motif in minbar carvings across various cultural and historical contexts. The findings reveal a shared conceptual approach among minbar carvers despite differences in cultural and temporal contexts.
