The minbar is an important mosque element found in the prayer hall. A range of height, width and length is available. The proportion of the minbar to the prayer hall is sometimes overlooked, diminishing the interior aesthetic value. The golden ratio is a design choice that is vital in developing the optimum product design. It is often recognised that using this ratio effectively is a terrific method to create. Thus, this study aims to apply the Golden Ratio principle to the minbar by describing the aesthetic value and interior proportion mathematically. This study determined the appropriate ra

Abstract The Dalāʾil al-Khayrāt (Guidelines to the Blessings) is a very popular book of prayers over the Prophet Muḥammad, originally written around the mid-fifteenth century by Muḥammad b. Sulaymān al-Jazūlī (d. 869/1465). The Dalāʾil is probably the only illustrated religious text in the Maghreb, where the image has been the subject of more profound reluctance than in the rest of the Muslim world. They show the sacred tomb of the Prophet inside the mosque of Medina, as well as his minbar, his miḥrāb and his sandals (naʿl), one of the most venerated relics in Islam. If the images in North A

The cities of the Levant, especially the cities of Damascus and Aleppo, witnessed the construction of hundreds of schools from the Zengid era to the Mamluk era. These schools are considered stand-alone urban cultural monuments, so this study aims to shed light on this historical urban edifice and research its religious and cultural dimensions that were reflected in its various urban elements. Those elements are the dome, the minaret, the decorations, muqarnas, symbols that adorned its walls, the pulpit (Minbar), Al-Mihrab, a description of the school courtyards and study halls (Iwan) overlooki

This paper explores how and why the Umayyad-era Ibn ʿAdabbas Mosque (9th century CE) and the later Great Almohad Mosque (12th century), both in Ishbīliyah (Seville), incorporated Classical and Christian materials into their structures, and why the newer mosque also included elements of older Islamic buildings. We start by analysing how sites for the mosques were selected, showing how archaeol

The article deals with a little-known mo- nument of Seljuk woodcarving — a door from an ancient Friday mosque (Jami-i Kebir) in Kayseri (Turkey). The carved door, exhibited now in the Ankara Museum of Ethnography, has not yet been the subject of a comprehensive publication. Therefore, this artifact belongs to the group of Anatolian Seljuk woodcarvings, made in the 12th — early 13th centuries, that have a special significance. As rare monuments of Islamic art of the pre-Mongol Middle East, they stood at the origins of the blooming of Anatolian Seljuk art that would occur some decades later. The
