The article particularly focuses on contemporary forms of yoga. Since these forms feature predominantly the practice of yoga postures or asanas, the term Modern Postural Yoga is employed. The phenomenological approach renders yoga ahistorical and ostensibly concentrates on the individual and her experience. AbstractIn this paper we investigate composition models of incarnation, according to which Christ is a compound of qualitatively and numerically different constituents. We focus on three-part models, according to which Christ is composed of a divine mind, a human mind, and a human body. We consider four possible relational structures that the three components could form. We argue that a ‘hierarchy of natures’ model, in which the human mind and body are united to each other in the normal way, and in which they are jointly related to the divine mind by the relation of co-action, is the most meta

These hegemonic layers of control have served to bind the fate of the Earth’s eco-systems, including human life, to the global capital economy which thrives on growth and development at any and all costs. Knyazeva, Elena. "Descartes' thesis about the separation of mind and body is usually quite severely criticized in the modern cognitive science in general and philosophy of mind in particular. This thesis serves as an important starting point for the development of the conception of embodied and enacted cognition, which has gained extraordinary popularity to date. This article substantiates that the solution to the mind - body problem proposed by Descartes is not at all so unequivocal and categorical, his position is much more subtle and sophisticated than it often seems to us. The article discusses the Descartes’ arguments both in favor of the «great separation between mind and body», and against it. It is shown that Descartes’ thoughts about the mutual influence of the states of the body and phenomena of mind, about the close coupling of mind and body and their unity, about the connection of mind with bodily action are in line with the modern conception of embodied and enactive cognition and may well be considered as a forerunner for its development. Descartes' deep analytical mind, which allowed him to create a method and which gave scientists an attitude to doubt everything in search of scientific truths, allowed him to carefully evaluate his own theses, carrying out various, including opposing, argumentative lines of thought. The understanding the real contribution of Descartes is essential for the further development of the conception of embodied and enactive cognition, which has considerable methodological strength in various fields of social and humanitarian research." Abstract:
‘Foundations: subjectivity and life’ develops the concept of embodied subjectivity, initially grounded in the phenomenology of bodily existence. A central concept for the investigation is the dual aspect of the living person as a dialectical unity of the subjective body and the physical body. The mind–brain problem is therefore reformulated as the ‘subject body–object body problem’ (Leib–Körper problem). Subsequently, an ecological conception of the living organism is developed. This focuses, on the one hand, on a living being’s self-organization and subjectivity and, on the other hand, on its relationship to the environment with reference to metabolism and the sensorimotor cycle. The chapter concludes with an analysis of the specific, circular causality of living systems. This incorporates the concept of capacity as a living being’s holistic, dispositional property, by means of which it becomes the cause of its own enactments of life.

Abstract:
This chapter studies how challenging it is to communicate a diagnosis of Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures to patients. This could be due to the inability of one’s reasoning to get rid of the dualistic distinction of the mind from the brain. Plato was the first to believe that the soul, this indistinct, immaterial, and immortal entity devoid of any physical property, was imprisoned in the human body. Since then, this view has become deeply rooted among laypeople and even in the scientific community. The “substance dualism” was further elaborated by René Descartes in the seventeenth century and has its counterpart in the “mind–brain identity theory” discussed in modern Philosophy and Psychology. This dualism underlies the divide between Neurology and Psychiatry and has dissolved their harmonious primeval unity. Neurology is nowadays devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the brain, whereas Psychiatry focuses on problems of the mind, as if it were possible to separate what, in reality, are two sides of the same coin. Hopefully, a better understanding of Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures will bring people a step closer to producing a unified view of the human being.
