Chengde City boasts a wealth of high-quality mineral water resources characterized by a high level of strontium (Sr), a low level of sodium, and low alkalinity. In order to study the mechanism of formation of Sr-bearing mineral water in Chengde and to scientifically guide future mineral water exploration, taking three typical mineral water exploration areas in Chengde as examples, this paper studies the sources of Sr in mineral water and the general rules of its dissolution via a laboratory static leaching experiment and impact experiments, and it provides an analysis of the characteristics of

Clay minerals, which are prevalent gangue minerals, are found in tailings and beneficiation effluent after the extraction of valuable minerals. The surface of clay mineral particles is easy to hydrate, which makes it the main factor restricting tailings separation and wastewater treatment. However, the microscopic mechanism of clay mineral particle surface hydration is not yet systematic. In recent years, with the development of molecular simulation theory and the improvement of computational efficiency, density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) have gradually become a powerf

Alkaline lakes have some of the most unique and diverse known mineral assemblages as a result of their very high pH and dissolved inorganic carbon concentrations. In these closed-basin systems, aqueous geochemistry and mineralogy are intimately linked, whereby the removal of elements through mineral precipitation controls the lake water geochemistry. The resulting extreme water chemistry of alkaline lakes produces minerals that are rare in other environments, including low-temperature minerals that record valuable environmental information and that are commonly extracted as mineral resources.

Knowledge on the effects of minerals on soil water stability and wettability is mostly gained from experiments on natural soils of different mineral composition. To gain a “clearer” picture, the water stability and wettability of artificial aggregates composed of soil silt and various proportions of pure minerals: kaolinite, montmorillonite, illite, zeolite and goethite, were examined. The wettability was attributed to contact angles measured goniometrically and to the water drop penetration time (WDPT). Abstract:
As part of the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) program between 2008 and 2020, the Geological Survey of Canada carried out reconnaissance-scale to deposit-scale geochemical and indicator mineral surveys and case studies across northern Canada. In these studies, geochemical methods were used to determine the concentrations of 65 elements in lake sediment, stream sediment, stream water, lake water and till samples across approximately 1,000,000 km2 of northern Canada. State-of the-art indicator methods were used to examine the indicator mineral signatures in regional-scale stream sedime

Abstract:
Colorado contains an abundance of historic mine-related waste materials, some of which may contain elevated concentrations of critical minerals and other metals. Many of these sites are currently being remediated by several entities including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), and/or other entities. Metal-laden water flows continuously from some of these acid mine drainage (AMD) sites where it is collected, treated, and discharged to local streams and rivers, depending on its potential impact to human health and the env

Abstract:
Environmental impacts associated with the mining of carbonatite deposits are an emerging concern due to the demand for critical metals. This study investigates the chemistry of tailings seepage at the former Saint Lawrence Columbium mine near Oka, Québec, Canada, which produced pyrochlore concentrate and ferroniobium from a carbonatite-hosted Nb-REE deposit. Its objectives are to characterize the mineralogy of the tailings and their pore water and effluent chemistries. Geochemical mass balance modeling, constrained by aqueous speciation modeling and mineralogy, is then used to identify reactio
