Abstract:
Two artistic competitions in the Metamorphoses, those between the Muses and the daughters of Pierus (5.250–678) and between Arachne and Minerva (6.1–145), are now widely recognised as exploiting familiar generic differentiations. Ovid's treatment of these differentiations is further seen to have a bearing on establishing the elusive poetic identity of the whole poem, and to locate that identity firmly within the Roman response to Alexandrian poetics. The significance of these sections for the literary programme of the Metamorphoses has been persuasively argued by H. Hofmann and E. W. Leach for

Abstract:
Recent work by the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU) in the Godthåb (Nûk) area has revealed a large tungsten province with extensive scheelite mineralisation in the Archaean Malene supracrustal rocks (Appel, 1983, 1984). In the area between Godthåb and Frederikshåb Isblink several large supracrustal amphibolite belts occur (fig. 1). These are presumably of the same age as the scheelite-bearing Malene amphibolites of the Godthåb area (Bridgwater et al., 1976). It was therefore decided to carry out a regional stream-sediment sampling programme in the area south of Godthåb, and this was accomp

As a part of the SUPRASYD project in southern Greenland (Garde & Schonwandt. this report) a pilot project was initiated in order to assess the use of satellite based remote sensing in mineral resource reconnaissance work (the GIRS project: Geological lnformation from Remote Sensing). The objectives were to evaluate the usefulness of modem satellite data imagery during the various stages of a GGU field programme. A detailed account of the project is given in Tukiainen et al. Potato tuber colour is an important factor that influences consumer preferences. Eastern plain region of India contributes about 50% of total potato acreage and production. Consumers in this region generally prefer red skinned varieties. Growing awareness for nutrient rich food can create a niche market for nutritious potatoes. Potato is crop of choice for mineral biofortification owing to better mineral bioavailability due to its high ascorbic acid and minimal phytate content. Iron and zinc are the essentially required minerals for good health. Considering the nutritional importance of these

Reconnaissance geochemical mapping by means of stream sediment and water has been carried out by the Geological Survey of Greenland (GGU) in West and South Greenland since 1979 (Steenfelt, 1987, 1993). The aim of the programme is to evaluate the potential for mineral resources. The geochemical data are used in two ways: (1) to identify chemical anomalies indicative of mineralisation; and (2) to contribute to the recognition of environments favourable to ore deposition. However, when compiled over large areas the data also permit a distinction to be made of large scale crustal domains.

Public participation in policy issues by the locals is a crucial ingredient that guarantees the success of any policy decision, national project and public programme. Public participation should permeate every sphere of governance. In this vein, Zimbabwe is endowed with numerous mineral resources. The indigenous Zimbabwean are statutorily deemed as the owners of the mineral resources hence their participation in policy processes and spaces that relate to the governance of natural resources is pertinent. However, it was noted that the Zimbabwean population is not fully benefiting from the extra

Field experiments were conducted over 3 years to assess the effect of a triazole fungicide programme, and additions of strobilurin fungicides to it, on nitrogen uptake, accumulation and partitioning in a range of winter wheat cultivars. Commensurate with delayed senescence, fungicide programmes, particularly when including strobilurins, improved grain yield through improvements in both crop biomass and harvest index, although the relationship with green area duration of the flag leaf (GFLAD) depended on year and in some cases, cultivar. In all years fungicide treatments significantly increased

Scholarship on imperialism in Zimbabwe has not been documented in terms of establishing its roots. What has evaded contemporary researchers and academics on post-land reform programme economic sanctions of 2001 is that their roots lie in colonial domination and imperialism. The Scramble for Africa of 1884 is an adjunct of the Berlin Colonial Conference of 1884-1885 which marked long dark days of imperialism in Africa. It was about colonial domination, exploitation of mineral and extraction of natural resources. Western Europe became principal beneficiaries of newly ‘discovered’ wealth – pillag
