Roots of chemical engineering in Middle Europe lead to the first mining and metallurgy academies, established in VIII century in Upper Hungaria and in Bohemian Kingdom. Chemical engineering skills originate from ancient Egyptian handicraft, alchemy, technical chemistry, pneumochemistry and phlogiston chemistry. Development of mining and metallurgy coincided with great scientific discoveries and industrial revolution. In Middle Europe, the first such academies were opened in St. Joachimstahl and in Schemnitz, and the first Serbian mining engineers Djordje Brankovic, Vasilije Bozic and Stevan Pa

Abstract Postdevelopment studies show that, once in operation, about 70% of mines perform below the prediction of their feasibility studies, with underperformance usually caused by deficiencies in the collection of primarily geology related data prior to designing the mine and planning its operation. A major reason for these deficiencies is probably a generally narrow understanding by many geologists of metallurgy as well as geotechnical and mining engineering. Additionally, geologists often do not appreciate the types and quantities of data required by metallurgists, geotechnical engineers, a

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to prepare new Fe-Cr-B alloys which have better wear resistance and investigate the wear mechanisms of these alloys tribotesting against SiC ceramic balls under dry sliding process. Design/methodology/approach – Fe-Cr matrix alloys were fabricated using powder metallurgy route. The tribological behaviors of Fe-Cr alloys tribotesting against SiC ceramic balls using a ball-on-disc tribotester were studied at different testing conditions. Meanwhile, microstructure, phases and morphology of worn surfaces were investigated. Findings – The element boron improve

The raw materials sector plays a key role in the Polish economy. The mineral raw material industry encompasses many different, sometimes highly specialized activities, such as exploration, mining, hauling, mineral processing, metallurgy and metal refining, as well as risk assessment, management (environmental, financial, legal) and marketing. The purpose of the article is to identify the market gap for business for entities or individuals in the mineral resources sector in Poland. Taking into account the European Union regulations which enforce the closure of hard coal mines in Poland by 2050,

Trends in the development of the nuclear-industrial complex and radioactive waste management are analyzed. Among the main problems of development of the nuclear-industrial complex and radioactive waste management are the imperfection of the legal framework, lack of investment. The contribution of the nuclear industry of Ukraine to the creation of gross domestic product is not significant, but its role is important in ensuring economic security and achieving energy independence of the country. The state of the nuclear-industrial complex in other countries of the world has been studied. It is ex

The inadequacy of worldwide fossil fuel resources, combined with increasing energy demands, encourages global attention to either using alternative energy resources or improving the recovery factor and produce larger quantities from present reservoirs. Among all enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods, surfactant injection is a well-known technique that reduces the interfacial tension (IFT) between oil and water and increases oil production. Despite numerous advantages of using surfactants, there are also a few obstacles like environmental impacts, high cost, effect on humans and other organisms d

One of the devices implementing energy-saving technologies is a Venturi tube of special geometry, called the cavitations generator of fluid pressure oscillation (hereinafter referred to as the generator). It converts the steady-state flow of process fluid into a discrete-impulse flow of increased power and has the simplicity of manufacturing that lacks moving parts, does not require additional energy sources and seamlessly fits into existing equipment. The practical use of the generator in engineering, metallurgy, the chemical industry and in mining, can reduce the specific energy consumption
