Abstract:
Bridge design and construction practice in former USSR, especially Russia, is not much known to the foreign engineers. Many advanced structural theories and construction practices have been established. In 1931, Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “There can be little doubt that in many ways the story of bridge building is the story of civilization. By it, we can readily measure a progress in each particular country.” The development of bridge engineering is based on previous experiences and historical aspects. Certainly, the Russian experience in bridge engineering has its own specifics. Bridge design proceeds in accordance with local standards and specifications. This study considers the basic rules and standards in bridge design in the North of Russia, the work includes the overview of Russian design concepts. The paper shows the design of typical concrete bridges including all calculations and analyses for future bridge stability and also drawings for visualisation. The results of the work are conclusions based on performing the required design calculations, drawings, preparing a final estimate and preparations for the construction. There are also some notes concerning the Russian design systems, computer programs for designing and computing and, finally, comparison of the Russians design standards and the Eurocode.

Abstract:
In a study investigating the ability of subjects and their close friends or relatives (close-others) to recognize subject personality test results under conditions which controlled for the Barnum effect, 64 male and female undergraduate psychology students were administered the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). Each subject later attempted to choose his or her own unidentified CPI profile from among three, and a close-other of the subject independently made the same selection. It was found that 57.81% of subjects and 45.31% of close others were able to correctly identify subject profiles; these results were significant at the .0001 and .05 levels respectively. The 53.12% rate of agreement between subjects and close-others in profile selection also proved significant, p < .001. In contrast with results from a previous study (Carlson, 1985), it was found that subject self-perception and CPI description correspond to a highly significant ·degree.

INTRODUCTION Vision-related quality of life questionnaires are additional tools to achieve the comprehensive evaluation of the result obtained after refractive surgery, since they include both the patient’s perspective regarding their functional status and satisfaction related to their vision after treatment. surgical. OBJECTIVE To compare the quality of life between patients operated on by intraocular lens respecting the natural or phakic lens (ICL) and refractive laser surgery (LASIK) in myopia with 5 to 10 diopters to assess the utility in the decision to use one surgical technique or another. . MATERIAL AND METHODS Retrospective study performed on 120 eyes of 60 patients who underwent surgery with LASIK and ICL implantation. Patients were evaluated before surgery and after surgery the following day, two months and one year. The QIRC questionnaire was performed with a minimum of 24 months and other variables evaluated were visual acuity, refractive defects, contrast sensitivity, pupil, Schirmer test, Esthesiometry and surgery indices. RESULTS In our study, we obtained that the score of the refractive correction-related quality of life questionnaire (QIRC) was higher for patients operated on phakic implantable lens (ICL) than for laser-assisted in situ keratomyelulesis (LASIK), although statistical significance was not reached. CONCLUSIONS Both refractive techniques (ICL and LASIK) can be a good option for the correction of myopic patients with 5 to 10 diopters.

Abstract:
-- Jaltomata bicolor "huallaco" plant of the Solanaceae family, cultivated for 5 years in community Mataruyo Cup Arahuay district, at 2450 meters altitude distribution which is the lowest level of its native plant endemic to the western flank of the Andes (valleys of the Rimac, Chillon and Pativilca). The plant subarbustiva 0,80 – 1,95 m high, axonomorfa root, stem cylindrical 0,7 to 2,3 cm in diameter, 4 to 5 aristate at the apex, with numerous lenticels and branched from the base. Leaves alternate ovate lanceolate 5 to 12 cm long, apex acuminate, edge and base subdentado asymmetric. Flowers arranged in cymes nutantes, stalked 2 – 5 (-7) flowers per inflorescence. Spherical berry fruit compressed at the poles of 10-24 mm in diameter. Anatomical study demonstrated in the secondary structure of the root ideoblastos the presence of grit crystaliferous. On the surface were recognized cauline papillose epidermal cells and multicellular branched trichomes. Bifacial leaf structure with drusen, with multicellular trichomes conical, glandular and branched. The cultivation of the species began germinating seeds of wild plants in the laboratory. The seedlings were transferred to Mataruyo for acclimatization in the shed and then to cropland. The average production of flowers and fruits recorded in four periods of flowering-fruiting during the years 2003-2007 was 650 flowers and 445 fruits. The nutritional value of fruits is evidenced by the presence of Vitamin "A" and "C". Vegetative propagation by cuttings produced better results in the rooting of the plant with indole butyric acid treatment and banding. In cuttings the results were positive both with and without treatment. Rooted-layers without treatment. Vegetative propagation by cuttings and layering were positive by rooting occurred. However for propagation by cuttings requires treatment with IBA for rooting and girdling of the plant. The population has never grown the plant according to ethnobotanical studies, however the people associated with the conditions of growth of wild plants "huallaco" with the production of potato crop in the area. J. bicolor is a critically endangered plant, due to the drought in the study area (171,4 to 334 mm) and be exposed to be consumed by livestock (young stem, leaves) and fruits are very sought after by birds and man. -- Keyword: Solanaceae, anatomy, crop, fruit, propagation.

Considering the growing ageing of population and the proliferation of new technologies of information and communication, it’s an important asset provide the adequate resources for the senior grasp of new technologies. This research is based on the planning, realization and evaluation of four audio-visual tutorials that allow the older adults: to register on miOne community; to know the miOne community; to learn how to use e-mail on miOne community; and how to chat with others in the miOne community. In the first phase, using the exploratory methodology, knowledge and papers about this theme were analyzed to unveil what was done previously and could support the attainment of the referred tutorials. In the second phase, action-investigation methodology was applied on the planning of voice-over scripts with the focus group technic. The scripts were only completed when all the required changes were done to fit on older adults needs. The tutorials were performed for later be evaluated by the senior. In the third phase, the evaluation methodology was used, allowing assessing if three categories of the tutorials were perceived by older adults: video, voice-over and background music. In conclusion the audiovisual tutorial for miOne community to support older adults needs should have the following realization features: pauses in speech and non-formal language; use of background music, mostly instrumental and audible in voice-over silent moments; mostly male voice usage and the female just to get attention; usage of speech and video in a segmented presentation; for the credits: avoid decorative fonts; avoid motion effects on text and enforce contrast of 50:1(as an example black background and white lettering or contrariwise).

Abstract:
Cosmic rays of energies above 1014 eV are detected mostly indirectly, by observing the extensive air showers they create in the atmosphere. Multiple experiments suggest that the current models of high-energy interactions do not describe the cosmic ray data perfectly, in particular when it comes to the prediction for the number of muons at ground. We present two models aiming to improve the description of the muon component, one based on the addition of particles with small momenta in the local center-of-mass frame of the high-energy hadronic interactions in the shower, the other on the addition of the so-called dark photons to the electromagnetic part of the shower. While we find the latter having no observable consequences, the former improves the agreement between observed and predicted amounts of muons both for the DELPHI cosmic ray data and for the measurements by the Pierre Auger Observatory. We also describe the FRAM telescope, a device used to monitor the atmosphere at the Pierre Auger Observatory, and its applications to the search for anomalous shower profiles and to the measurement of the aerosol content of the atmosphere, which is crucial for the analysis of data obtained by fluorescence detectors. 1

Abstract:
This thesis is dedicated to study of interactions of utra-high energy cosmic rays using measured data from the Pierre Auger Observatory, automatic alarm system called Shift Guard and analysis of correlation of temperature and detector response. The Pierre Auger Observatory is the largest experiment to study ultra-high energy cosmic rays. The assumed relation between temperature and fluorescence detector response is studied together with descriptive temperature analysis, which shows that the air-conditioning system is not able to stabilize temperature enough. The temperature influence on camera response is investigated in order to measure the calibration correction factor. Shift Guard - the alarm system dedicated to protect fluorescence detectors and data taking is introduced and its functionality is described. The alarm system informs shifters about some events and situations that can endanger detector or deteriorate data quality. The basic parameters and alarm system logic are described together with light and sound signals. The discrepancy between measured and predicted number of muons at ground level calculated by EAS generators is showed and possible sources of this disagree- ment are studied. The result of massive dark photons decay in EAS as one of exotic muon source is presented. The analysis...

Regalado, Francisco Silva Ferreira. "Gamifying news for the miOne online community." Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/31503.

Full text
Abstract:
The growing ageing population, combined with the increasing use of information and communication technologies, i.e. online communities, by older adults, has heightened the need to study the challenges and solutions in presenting empathic products that meet the users’ needs, customized to their context. Online news present growing challenges due to new interaction paradigms and games have already demonstrated to be very effective in capturing user’s attention, as well as the adoption of game elements and techniques to non-game contexts - i.e. gamification. This Development Research reports, firstly, the motivations and the context of use in digital platforms by adult learners from the Universities of the Third Age (UTAs), supporting the design and development of a gamification strategy in the context of an online community entitled miOne. To meet this challenge, a literature review centered on the keywords 'Older Adults', 'Gamification', 'Motivation and Engagement' and 'Digital Media' was performed, as well as a questionnaire survey that was administered to 248 people aged 50 and over from 16 different countries. Secondly, a digital artifact was developed, applying gamification to online news, within the miOne online community. This artifact was validated with 6 national newspaper players to understand the challenges posed to the journalistic sector and assess the product’s relevancy to the market. Finally, the proposed solution was tested with 11 participants from Universities of the Third Age. The results suggest that the developed mechanics and gamification elements can engage older adults with online news on digital platforms. Additionally, these can guide the integration of a gamification strategy in the previously mentioned context. These interconnected elements are: (i) a leaderboard with the most weekly news’ interactions; (ii) levels with different missions and rewards (external and internal to the platform); and (iii) a community-endorsed award system to recognize and validate user-generated content towards news.

Abstract:
As the aging population continues to grow, there has been an increasing interest in the subject of gerontechnology. In the specific case of the digital game industry, senior citizens are becoming better consumers due to their purchasing power and free time, so it is important to focus on the role of games to their wellbeing and meet their needs and preferences. However, there is a general lack of information and products that address physical exercise in the interrelationship of cycling, tourism, games, gamification and senior citizens. The aim of this research is to understand the way gamification interventions can motivate senior citizens to adhere to cyclo-tourism. This dissertation reports on the use of the Development Research Method, deploying a broad array of methods, including focus groups, eye-tracking and interviews. A total of 46 participants (7 focus group participants, 8 participants in eye-tracking and 31 cyclists’ interviewees) were involved in this research. Based on the literature review, related work and the insights from each method, a cyclo-tourism digital app entitled Jizo was co-designed and prototyped. Findings indicate that certain gamification techniques and elements can trigger senior citizens’ motivations towards cyclo-tourism, being essential integrative parts of a digital app in this context. The elements highlighted were social relationships, progression, challenges, competition, feedback and rewards, having an important role in pre-, in loco and post- experience. These data support the view on gamification capability to motivate senior cyclo-tourism.

Abstract:
Campus is a multi-tenant technology that supports multiple platforms, characterized by enabling the creation and dynamization of online communities, among which is Campus by Fundação Altice and the miOne platform. Although they are part of the same technology, they have different objectives and target audiences. Despite offering a comprehensive set of utility tools and content, both face the challenge of growing their network of users and remain sustainable. Games, as hedonic systems, are intended for the pleasure of their players rather than having a concrete outcome of the use. Its game design process is focused on the user’s motivations and engagement and, due to its success, game components and techniques started to be used in contexts other than entertainment. This phenomenon is called gamification. Within the scope of this investigation, a dynamic gamification strategy was developed in the Campus multi-tenant environment in order to meet the specific needs of each platform and its respective online communities. For this, the development research methodology was applied, and the final result was evaluated through a convenience sample involving the target audience of the two platforms. The investigation process was guided through the different stages: analysis and assessment of the situation, design and realization of the model, implementation and evaluation. The application of the developed strategy was applied and evaluated through its integration in the Campus by Fundação Altice and miOne platforms, over several sessions, where five users of each platform were able to experience the different functionalities developed. It was found that the developed solution is capable of supporting different platforms, and that users followed the various stimulus of the implemented strategy with satisfaction and motivation.

Abstract:
Charles University Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology Student: Katarína Tripská Supervisor: prof. PharmDr. Petr Pávek, Ph.D. Title of diploma thesis: miRNAs as diagnostic markers after treatment with glucocorticoids in rheumatology MicroRNAs are important class of non-coding RNAs that play important role in modulation of expression of multiple genes at a post-transcriptional level. Their deregulation contributes to many immune disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis. This thesis represents the most recent knowledge about functions of microRNAs in pathogenesis of these disorders and results were obtained by review of scientific literature published on PubMed database. The most perspective microRNAs in rheumatoid arthritis seem to be miR-16, miR-21, miR- 146a, miR-150 a miR-223. In lupus miR-148, miR-126, miR-21, miR-155, miR-125a a miR- 146 will probably find their useage as biomarkers. Systemic sclerosis is less examined diseases and we know most about miR-29 in the disease. Since the research of microRNA as diagnostic biomarkers is only at the beginning, it is most likely, that with the time there will be more and more of new microRNAs helping us clarify pathogenesis of each disorder. We can suppose...

Abstract:
The Daya Bay experiment is designed to precisely measure short-baseline disappearance of reactor antineutrinos from reactor cores at the Daya Bay nuclear power plant complex in the Guangdong Province of China. It pre- sented the most precise measurements of oscillation parameters sin2 2θ13 = 0.084 ± 0.005 and |∆m2 ee| = (2.42 ± 0.11) × 10−3 eV2 . Background to the antineutrino signals is mainly created by cosmic muons and is effectively suppressed by use of water Cherenkov and RPC muon detectors. This thesis describe testing of RPC detectors prior to their installation at the experi- mental site. Part of the cosmic muons stop in the experiment's antineutrino detectors, and they decay or are captured by 12 C producing 12 B. Isotope 12 B contribute to accidental background. Rates of muon decays in the detectors are estimated in the thesis. The experiment can register electron antineutri- nos from supernova with expected signals around 20 MeV. Energy scale of the detectors at 53 MeV is determined.
