We sampled three juvenile life-history types of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from Western Arm Brook, Newfoundland, to test whether a regulatory gene variant PGM-1r*b is associated with accelerated life-history development. Seven nonmigratory parr populations from the Miramichi River, New Brunswick, and the Margaree River, Nova Scotia, were also sampled. Previous studies with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) indicate that the liver-specific regulatory gene variant PGM-1r*b is associated with faster embryonic and life-history development. The ocean migration of 16 post-spawned adult Atlantic salmon [Salmo salar L.] from the Miramichi River, Canada, tagged concurrently with pop-up satellite archival tags and acoustic transmitters was reconstructed using a Hidden Markov Model. Individuals exclusively utilized areas within the Gulf of St Lawrence and the Labrador Sea, and showed little overlap with known distributions of European stocks. This article is devoted to the formation conditions and morphometric features of the river islands. Also it considers the rate of branching of the Upper Ob and Middle Lena river channels. They are the largest rivers, but the Middle Lena River is bigger than the Upper Ob River by 6.15 times of total runoff and 2.5 times of width.
