Full textStudying luminescent properties of nanoparticles leads to informations about elementary mechanisms connected to the luminescence. As it has been done for semiconductors (quantum confinement effect for instance), we want to evaluate the influence of parameters like size or composition of insulating nanoparticles on their luminescence. In this purpose, we had to develop a versatile tool, able to efficiently excite these particles, then perform their image and their spectroscopy. The achromatic confocal microscope built during my phD work and hosted in the Nanoptec center is able to fill these aims : tunable wavelenght from deep UV (210 nm) to IR (about 1 μm), spatial resolution of about 1 μm (enables us to work on sufficiently separated particules), confocal aspect leading to a spatial isolation of the studied object luminescence, detection system able to spectrally select this luminescence... We made various collaborations with teams in and out of the laboratory, such as spatial cartography of dopant distribution in laser fibers, evaluation of optical inhomogeneities amidst ceramics, spatial dispersion measurements of nanoparticles in plastics... The achromatic confocal microscope is also helpful for a better understanding of excitation power effects of luminescent properties of various sizes and compositions nanoparticles
Bertrand, Arnaud. "Mise en place de l'imagerie Cerenkov 3D." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015STRAE020/document.
Full textMolecular imaging aims to study biological processes in vivo. Cerenkov imaging is a molecular imaging technology that has developed since 2009. The principle is to inject a radioactive tracer molecule labeled with a radioactive isotope, then recording the optical signal emitted by the Cerenkov effect. The Cerenkov imaging allows imaging radiotracers emitting β+ radiation (positron) and β- (electron). The Cerenkov effect occurs when a charged particle moves through a medium with a speed greater than that of light in this same medium. If this threshold is exceeded, we observed an emission of optical photons called Cerenkov radiation. The emission spectrum of this extends from UV to IR continuously and the number of photons emitted as a function of the wavelength varies by 1/λ². My PhD is to develop 3D imaging Cerenkov to reconstruct the distribution of the radiotracer in vivo. We have an imaging platform named Amissa (A Multimodality Imaging System for Small Animal) whose purpose is to develop and make available tools for molecular imaging of small animals

Full textNonribosomal peptides are molecules produced by microorganisms and displaying a broad spectrum of biological activities and pharmaceutical applications. They can harbor anti-microbial, immunomodulating or anti-tumor activities. These peptides are synthesized by huge multi-enzymatic complexes, called NonRibosomal Peptide Synthetases. Two main structural traits distinguish these peptides from the ribosomally synthesized ones : first, their primary structure is not always linear but is often cyclic (partially or totally), branched or poly-cyclic, and second, the diversity of monomers incorporated into nonribosomal peptides extends far beyond the 20 proteogenic amino acids residues. We have developed Norine, the first public resource entirely dedicated to nonribosomal peptides. Norine currently contains more than 1 000 peptides, modeled by non-oriented labeled graphs, and computational tools allowing their analysis, such as monomer composition comparison, structural pattern matching or similarity search. Statistical analysis of Norine data highlighted interesting biological properties such as a specific monomer composition depending on the biological activity, that led us to develop a tool for helping the prediction of peptide activity from its monomeric composition. In three years, Norine became the international resource for nonribosomal peptides

Full textThe approach to argumentative dialogue as a specific language behavior leads to the investigation of the articulation of characteristic textual forms (justification of stand-taking, modalizations) to relevant situational parameters and firstly to the purpose of discourse and the type of interlocutor. The setting-up and specificity of language argumentative operations are studied in oral corpora collected among 262 10-to-17 yeat old children. The aim is to find out the typological textual elements corresponding to the operations mentioned above. Besides the fact that the use of argumentative textual forms increases with age, the interlocutory argumentative dialogue (when locutors try to come to an agreement) appears as a specific language behaviour, compared to other discourse situations. In this dialogal behaviour, two distinct groups of operations intervene: justification and negotiation. Moreover, there exists a complex interaction between purely dialogal aspects (cooperativity between interlocutors) and argumentative aspects (implementation of argumentative operations)

Full textWe are moving quickly to a new environment characterized by global dematerialization and celerity. These features are not without effect. The world around us is changing with the advent of technology and the integration of electronic tools in all our activities. The Internet is becoming an indispensable tool to use and integrate in our business, including commercial activities. International trade gives more room to the electronic commerce. The development of the universal phenomenon of the Internet and the emergence of electronic commerce naturally provoke conflicts even to international extend. Faced with the impossibility of using state justice, the use of paperless settlement was necessary, which promotes the logical development of ODR including Electronic Arbitration. Nevertheless, the use of this resolution mode sometimes raises not only technical issues, but many legal ones as well. This is precisely due to the nature of the legal environment. Overcoming these issues through the establishment of an environment fitting the development of Electronic Arbitration is necessary. For sure, if Electronic Arbitration uses technical and legal environment, and though the process may appear complex at first sight, all legal and technical issues dealt with in this thesis are, however, overcome

Full textThe environmental impact of civil engineering construction is one of the main concerns found in most research efforts in the field. Recent research has shown the importance of the amount of waste generated by rebound in the shotcrete process and has emphasized this aspect in this field. The project was undertook at Laval University’s Shotcrete Laboratory and is part of an effort to better understand rebound mechanisms that generate this waste. It investigates the rebound at the spray-scale to help understand how equipment and material choises affect this phenomenon. This project is divided in two distinct portions: a rebound model at the spray scale and the implementation of a program to automate the calculation of the particle velocity distributions in the spray. First, in order to help generate the experimental data required to study rebound at the sprayscale, a computer program has been developed. This program is based on an optical flow method developed by Black & Anadam (1996). From two successive images, particle velocities are calculated. Working with a large number of images and enhancing their quality allowed to approximate the velocity distribution in the spray. The most promising results were obtained during analysis when the image quality was best optimized. A rebound model at the spray-scale was then developed by combining the results of previous research projects in shotcrete. Armelin (1998) was the first to develope a particle-scale rebound model based on an elastoplastic representation of the substrate and on the incident kinetic energy of the particle. Ginouze in 2014 then developed different testing methods that allowed a complete characterization of the shotcrete spray. By combining the results of these studies, a new spray-scale rebound model was created and the results were correlated the experimental results. Rebound values however were strongly overestimated. By introducing an innovative new concept representing the variations of rheological properties of the substrate due to the vibration caused by the incident particles, a better estimation of rebound was achieved. In conclusion, the project fulfilled its exploring mission and opened the way to automated velocity distribution measurement in the spray. Moreover, solid bases of a rebound spray-scale model were established by taking into account the rheological properties variations in the different substrate areas.

Full textPlacing a priority on the study of linguistics dynamics i) eases their understanding with respect to each other and ii) 'explains' grammatical properties as a side effect. No disjunction between a grammar (today) and the dynamics (tomorrow?). The levers are analogy and proximality : some accesses are proximal (=cheaper), others are more costly. A precise and operable model of linguistic productivity consist of : - a statics, the 'plexus', inscriptions that are meshed, exemplarist, and contextual. Among 'empty' terms (free of properties), 'copositionnings' take place. - dynamics which are cognitively founded. The syntactic analysis of an utterance is redefined as structure mappings piled up onto one another. 'Systemic productivity' obtains in pluridimensional paradigms and is explained without syntactic features (they are artifactual and their learnability is dubious). A model of acquisition predicts the sigmoid curves which are general empiry in acquisition

Full textThe goal of this dissertation was to design and implement a microarray analysis pipeline. The first tool of the microarray pipeline is a web-based LIMS: SLIMS. It allows the storage of all data related to experiments and samples from harvest to RNA extraction. This tool was designed in PHP and MySQL allowing easy access and manipulation of the data. A tranfer algorithm was designed to allow stored data to be automatically integrated into the BASE software, a tool that allows storage and analysis of microarray data. An annotation algorithm was also designed in order to annotate genes that are on the microarrays. A lignin/cellwall annotation was also included to enable the rapid indentification of all the genes related to the lignin biosynthesis pathway and cell wall assembly. This pipeline was used to analyze transgenic spruce overexpressing the pine LIM2 gene.

Full textT1 mapping is a useful quantitative MR technique for cardiac tissue characterization. Several studies have shown that T1 measurements are correlated with fibrosis, which is observed in cardiac diseases such as cardiomyopathy or myocardial infarction. However, cardiac T1 mapping remains challenging, mainly because of long acquisition times and interference from cardiac and respiratory motions. T1 quantification on the human myocardium is generally performed on breath-hold with 2D specific sequences. Unfortunately these sequences are scanner specific and poorly available for clinical use. To overcome these limitations, we propose a new method based on a 3D clinical sequence. This technique, using a variable flip angle approach that integrates B1 correction, was adapted in cardiac imaging. Phantom tests were used to select the optimal parameters and to show the method reproducibility. Then, the method was validated with a volunteer study using double synchronization (cardiac and respiratory). Moreover, a reconstruction method integrating physiological signals of motion was also used to perform T1 quantification in free breathing and to reduce the total acquisition time. The myocardial T1 values on volunteers ranged between 1289 ± 66 ms and 1376 ± 43 ms, which was in good agreement with previously published works. These studies allow the use of T1 mapping in patients with better characterization of pathologies and a better adaptation to therapeutic strategies

Full textExisting geomatics is presented by relating geographic space components (territory, populations, structures, phenomena) to the constituent elements of geographic information (identification, location, form, attributes, environment). After modelling the geographic information system (GIS), one can implement geographic data bases. In a GIS coexist images. 2 or 3 dimensional linear data and cellular grids, as well as allotted tables. The complementarity of various geographic information management (cartography, spatial statistics, remote sensing, etc) justify their integration into a coherent set: the geomatic workstation. The setting-up of a geomatic workshop in a local government requires a GIS, a geographic information handling system (GIHS), some qualified personnel and an administrative organisation. By positionning oneself in the context of increased competence that has been transferred to local government authorities by the decentralisation, the department of Seine Saint-Denis example enables one to show that human resources and organisation are less taken into consideration than the gis and the GIHS. Because of their common interest in geomatics, different public organisations that are working on the same territories are incited to seek ways of putting their means together. The informatisation of the cadaster have led to the establishment of some cooperation between the department and several partners on one hand and, on the other hand, the general directorate of income taxes. Moreover it is interesting to coordinate geomatic activities within the department, and with its partners. One can achieve this by creating a geomatic service and an organ of cooperation that follow a geographic information master plan based on 4 axes: GIS (models, data. Meta-data, referentials, exchanges, updating, creation of new data), GIHS (hardware, software, network), human resources (qualification, number, assignment), organisation (duty, head, attachment)

Full textExpermental datas has been collected to serve a double purpose : on the one hand, in order to define about the description of food belonging to the children consumption repertoire (ie appropriate foods) ; on the other hand, in order to understand the process underlining the acception of these foods : appropriation. Subjects (aged 8 to 11) described an unknown food and the same food made familiar by a series of consumption in natural setting from different points of view : an hedonic one (I like / I don't like), an ideel one (physical and identity effects of incorporation), a sensorial one (qualitative description and intensity evaluation of 5 attributes : colour, odour, taste, aroma and texture). Results show that appropriation of the food is underlined by descriptive modifications during familiarisation : "Hedonisation" : the food becomes praised because of it's sensorial qualities (for its flavour) ; "Positivation ideelle" : the food is the object of more benefic representations on the level of incorporation effects ; Minoration of perceived sensorial intensity : sensorial attributes are perceived with less intensity (significatively for coulour, aroma and bitterness) ; "Mise en congruence sensorielle" : thanks to an open questioning some subjects tend to use the same answer to describe the food and its sensorial attributes. A general trends in the same way in France as well as in Quebec appears through these different indices : congruent image of the aliment frome hedonic and sensorial point of view, and within a given cultural system. The appropriate food becomes "banal" in the way that it does not implies the analysis of its parts any more but il gives place to the recognition of the whole structure. Otherwise, two specificities hind the appropriation : the consumption setting which is not very warm ; the unusual association of sensorial qualities which can be usually familiar
