Full textOpiate addiction is a serious and difficult condition and drug mortality in Sweden is very high. The purpose of this study is to acquire knowledge and illustrate how staff working with drug addiction in social services in Dalarna look at their work with people with opiate addiction in relation to the fact that MAT lies with another operator. A qualitative study has been carried out where social workers who works with drug addiction from five different municipalities in Dalarna have been interviewed. The empirical data were analyzed in relation to previous research on the area and the theories of domains and professions. The conclusion of the study shows that the social workers in Dalarna experiencing some obstacles in their work with clients with opioid dependence since it is two operators involved. For example, the long queues to MAT and difficulties to get through forced addiction care were issues that may be a risk for clients lives.

Full textIndividualized addiction work is fundamental in Swedish addiction treatment. The purpose of the study was to investigate how addiction counsellors in the social services work with people with intellectual disabilities in combination with alcohol abuse. Six qualitative interviews were conducted with addiction counsellors in the social service. The interviews were analysed through a thematic analysis. The study showed that addiction counsellors experience working with the target group as difficult and challenging as they don´t have support in the national guidelines and that assessment instruments and interventions are not adapted for this target group. The shortcomings mean that addiction counsellors own experiences as well as individual knowledge of the target group determine how the interventions are designed for the individual client. The results have been discussed in relation to previous research, system theory and stigma theory. The study indicates that there is a need for further research on this target group.

Full textThe purpose of this study was to understand how social workers experienced working with Addiction Severity Index (ASI) in relation to the goal set by the National Board of Health and Welfare. The method is spread nationwide and therefore it is of great importance to examine how the social workers themselves experience the demands and the resources surrounding ASI. We choose to do a qualitative study interviewing eight social workers at six different occasions. The result was analyzed using Max Weber’s ideal type bureaucracy and Michael Lipsky’s thesis on street-level bureaucrats. We found that the social workers consider the method useful when used from without their own purposes. The standards set by the National Board of Health and Welfare was considered hard to achieve because of the complexity of the method. Among other things the valuation done by both social worker and client was regarded as tough and therefore the results of the interview are at risk of not becoming reliable. We found that the outcome of the interview depends on the performer.
