Fears about the militarization of space are widespread. For example, the recent development of Anti-Satellite (ASAT) capabilities by rising powers like China and India is often described as a technologically driven arms race. Flight testing has been performed on a Bell-205 helicopter to investigate aircrew whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure levels on a rag and tube Flight Engineer (FE) seat in accordance with ISO2631 and MIL-STD1472 standards. A new simulation model to predict tail rotor drivetrain maneuver loads at hover is developed. The model consists of a high fidelity dynamic engine simulation coupled to a multibody dynamics simulation of the main rotor system, tail rotor and drivetrain, including torsional flexibility of drivetrain shafts. Abstract:

This test report documents seismic qualification testing of a Static Power Static Transfer Switch (STS). The STS is a mission-critical unit that will be installed at Eareckson Air Station (EAS), on the island of Shemya, Alaska. Two units were built, one of which was tested on the ERDC-CERL shake table on 10 November 2020, and the other delivered to EAS for installation. This report presents details on the STS configuration, seismic tests conducted, and the performance of the unit. The unit passed the final seismic test and can now confidently be installed at the EAS.
