Yoshida, Mio. "Paul Claudel et le monde des missionnaires : rencontres, activité, écriture." Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019SORUL002.
Full textFrequent in the life and work of Paul Claudel, the missionary figure is emblematic of the universal vision of the world conceived by the Catholic poet, who aims to integrate the earth’s immense plurality into his professional life as much as it is in his work. The first part is devoted to the discovery of the Catholic Missions by the young consul during his stay in China, a discovery that allowed him to position himself in front of the world as both a diplomat and a poet. The second part highlights that Missions are also active in Europe, especially in a particular period of the Great War. His diplomatic and literary activities are superimposed on his dualistic view which, contrary to what Catholics and Protestants think, does not seem incompatible with his desire for peace in Europe. The period in Japan, analyzed in the last part, appears particularly fruitful, as evidenced by the consequent magnitude of his diplomatic work and the favorable reception of his literary work. Composed of three main periods that are also distinguished by geographical references, this study includes other countries where he has exercised diplomatic functions such as Brazil and the United States thus emphasizing his global vision throughout his professional career. The purpose of the study is also to shed light on the multifaceted dimension of his three-fold missionary world, including meetings with many religious figures, diplomatic activities aimed at unifying countries, and writings based on the intuition of a unification of the world

Full textThe missionary at the colonial time is depicted negatively in our corpus. The personage, who has the onus of going to teach the message of the begotten of god to the black people of africa, could he find the suitable conditionsnfor conducting an independant and unselfish action without to compromise himself? our research work shows still more that the personage acted not only for the church but also for his country, contrarily to the pontifical directives. Nevertheless, the colonial system which leans on high-handed actions organizes the enslavement and the exploitation of the colonized people. At the same, he denies his cultural and philosphical patrimony. In this social and historical context, the imbrication of the religious and the political matter, or in the better, the collusion between the missionary clergy and the administration offera to mongo beti and rene philombe arguments to (sharphy) denry the unselfish claims of the apostolate

Full textThe letters and documents sent from china by french jesuits between 1699 and 1820 (lettres edifiantes et curieuses, published under the direction of m. L. Aime-martin, paris, 1843, t. Iii, and t. Iv), provide useful information on the chinese empire in the 18th century. These letters, which come from beijing as well as provincial capitals or other minor cities, reveal the attitude of missionaries as regards imperiam power. Not only are they indispensable for the awareness of christianism in these regions through the establishment of the catholic church, its development, the persecutions it underwent, but they also provide a unique contribution concerning various features of chinese history : 1) the emperer and his court, the central administration and the army, the local and provincial administration; 2) chinese religions traditions other religions existing in china (islam, judaism); 3) justice, courts and punishment; 4) education and schooling; 5) handcrafts, country life and economic crises; 6) aspects of social life, the organisation and role of the family. One notes particularly precise information on the scientific contribution in the fields of medicine, geography, astronomy and mathematics by jesuits sent from paris by the academie des sciences

Full textThe Foreign Missions Society is officially established in 1663 by the four vicars apostolic that had just appointed Alexandre VII: François de Laval Montmorency for Québec, François Pallu, Lambert de La Motte and Ignace Cotolendi for the Far East. In its missions in Asia, the new organisation with an exclusively missionary purpose aims at forming the clergy of this emerging Church. The Society is immediately confronted with difficulties in dealing with the distance between the place of the missionary activity and the Paris seminary, where most of its members have no field experience. There are communication difficulties that become visible quite rapidly and generate strong tensions between the actors. The voyage seems to be the decisive element of this situation. It allows the missionaries to gradually adapt to their new living conditions. On the contrary, it is a missing element for the directors, who do not understand the constraints specifically related to each mission place. The uncertainty and the slowness of exchanges which result from the transport conditions of the age deepen the physical and mental gap between the members of the Society. Getting a grasp of the functioning of the Foreign Missions Society between 1660 and 1791 includes the study of voyage as an apprenticeship period for the mission
Eluther, Ena. "L'africanité dans la littérature caribéenne." Thesis, Le Mans, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013LEMA3001.
Full textCan the africanity of caribbean cultures come down to distant survivals, or constitute the foundation of these cultures ? Literature, as a mirror of peoples, as a painting of cultures, as art, allows to perceive the cultural and literary continuity between the african continent and its caribbean diaspora. The comparison of english-speaking and french-speaking novels from the Caribbean and from West Africa and Central Africa shows common cultural features and literary topoi from one area to the other : colonial trauma, protection and adaptation of ancestral legacy, common spiritual values, linguistic problematics, paintings of resistance struggles in which the writer himself is in the frontline. This comparative study, which sometimes draws from caribbean and african oral literature, as from caribbean spanish-speaking literature, suggests that one should view the afro-caribbean cultural expressions as an extension of african cultural expressions, offering in this way a large panorama of the cultural and literary black world. From 1921 to the early years 2000, this analysis takes into account the changes of african and caribbean literatures and the societies they represent. Have the changes definitively broken the african civilizational unity, the cultural links between Africa and the Americas ? On the contrary, the reading of the novels of the corpus shows an homogeneous and coherent picture of cultural and literary expressions of Africa and its caribbean diaspora, so doing putting Africa back into the center of caribbean culture
Murcia, Thierry. "Jésus dans la littérature talmudique." Thesis, Aix-Marseille, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012AIXM3076.
Full textThis study presents a survey and a systematic analysis of the passages of Talmudic literature (Mishna – Tosefta – Palestinian Talmud – Babylonian Talmud – Midrashim), relative to Jesus or are supposed to be. The documents are examined, criticized and confronted to other sources of Jewish or Christian origin (Hellenistic Jewish literature, Jewish Apocrypha, rabbinic sources, Targumim, Toledot Yeshu – New Testament, Apostolic Fathers, Church Fathers). The investigation tries to answer to several questions: - What did the rabbis exactly know about Jesus? - Has their information any historical value? - Has their perception undergone some evolution? - Did the rabbis of the Talmud have access to the Gospels as a written source? The conclusion of this thesis is that all these documents are rooted in their Sitz im leben. They obviously attest – contra Peter Schäfer (Jesus in the Talmud, 2007) – that the rabbis had no direct acquaintance with the Gospels as written documents. This study also shows, concerning the Babylonian Talmud, that all the passages relative to Jesus belong to the last editorial layer of this corpus (VIIe-VIIIe century)
