Summary This article presents one of the many possible interpretations of Thomas Mann’s The MagicMountain without drawing an definitive conclusion. Hans Castorp’s experiences at Davos are explored in the context of the ritual of initiation and regeneration featured in Friedrich Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy. In Mann’s novel Castorp’s encounter with the death-tainted sanatorium routine carries a suggestion of an absorption into a community performing its rituals. However, unlike the Nietzschean mysteries these rituals pull its participants into a unregenerative circle of formlessness. In the initiation ritual the descent (kathodos) should be followed by an ascent (anodos). In the Hades of the Berghof Hans Castorp can be seen to dive into the recesses of his own memory, the primeval memory of mankind, the secrets of the human body and the depths of the subconscious. However, his dip does not issue in an ascent. His grip on reality remains at best enigmatic; he is not able to break out of the narrow compass of the sanatorium. When he returns to the plains, to historical time, it is a descent to the hell of war. To sum up, whereas the Dionysian myth is associated with the motif of a fertile underworld, Castorp is not likely to experience regeneration.

Die gebiete der zusammenarbeit zwischen der Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien und SachsenDer Beitrag konzentriert sich auf die wichtigsten Bereiche der Beziehungen zwischen Niederschlesien und Sachsen: Städtepartnerschaft, Euroregion Neiße und Programme der Europäischen Union. Fast alle bilateralen Projekte werden in ihren Rahmen realisiert. Sie bestätigen, dass die 20-jährige Zusammenarbeit der Regionen zur Herausarbeitung stabiler und zielgerichteter Beziehungen geführt hat.Die Städtepartnerschaft stellt die früheste Form der Zusammenarbeit dar, noch bevor die offiziellen Kontakte zwischen Niederschlesien und Sachsen aufgenommen wurden. Die Analyse der Kooperation von vier mit Kreisstatus Städten Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Wałbrzych, Wrocław mit ihren deutschen Partnern Bautzen, Dresden, Freiberg und Meißen ließ die Tätigkeitsgebiete zu bestimmen, auf welchen die meisten Projekte initiiert werden Kultur, offi zielle Besuche und Schüleraustausch.Die Euroregion Neisse wurde zum Forum direkter und aktiver Zusammenarbeit der Bewohner der Grenzgebiete von Tschechien, Deutschland und Polen. Ihr erstes Ziel, das Entgegenwirken der Umweltzerstörung, wurde mit den Jahren um weitere Aspekte ergänzt: wirtschaftliche, in frastrukturelle, soziale und politische. Die mit ihr verbundenen Anstrengungen stellen zweifelhaft ein Beispiel für den Erfolg niederschlesisch-sächsischer Beziehungen dar.Die Unterstützung durch Programme der Europäischen Union im Rahmen der Regional- und Kohäsionspolitik wird verwendet, um diverse Projekte in Gang zu setzen. Die meisten Aktivitäten sind mit dem Zusammenarbeitsprogramm INTERREG Polen-Sachsen verbunden.Die genannten Bereiche werden jedoch nicht vollständig ausgelastet, bei maximalem Einsatz des zugänglichen Potentials. Wichtig ist daher, sowohl die Zusammenarbeit zu intensivieren, als auch dabei die Kapazitäten der Regionen und die Erwartungen der Einwohner zu berücksichtigen.

Bureau of provincial national councils as appeal instances against penal college in the years 1951–1957 on the example of the Presidium of the Provincial National Council in Zielona Góra In 1951, the communist authorities introduced the institution of a penal college in Poland. This institution was modeled on the legislation in force in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Colleges were not courts but performed judicial functions. The fi nal instance of appeal against the rulings of the colleges was the Presidium of the Provincial National Council. The article showed that a large part of the rulings issued by colleges in the Zielona Góra region in the years 1951–1957 were annulled by the Presidium. College rulings were often in confl ict with applicable law. Die Präsidien der Nationalräte der Woiwodschaften als Berufungsinstanzen gegen die verwaltungsstrafrechtliche Rechtsprechung in den Jahren 1951–1958 am Beispiel des Präsidiums des Nationalrates der Woiwodschaft Grünberg [Zielona Góra] Im Jahre 1951 haben die kommunistischen Behörden in Polen die Institution eines Kollegiums für Ordnungswidrigkeiten eingeführt. Diese Institution wurde nach der in der Sowjetunion geltenden Gesetzgebung organisiert. Die Kollegien waren keine Gerichte, sie übten jedoch richterliche Funktionen aus. Die letzte Berufungsinstanz gegen die Beschlüsse der Kollegien war das Präsidium des Nationalrates der Woiwodschaft [Prezydium Wojewódzkiej Rady Narodowej]. In dem Beitrag wurde gezeigt, dass das Präsidium eine große Zahl der Entscheidungen der Kollegien, die in den Jahren 1951–1958 in der Woiwodschaft Grünberg ergangen, aufgehoben hatte. Die Entscheidungen der Kollegien standen oft im Widerspruch mit dem geltenden Recht.

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der lexikalischen Ebene der Hexenverhörprotokolle aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, die aus Grünberg in Niederschlesien, dem heutigen Zielona Góra Polen stammen. Der Untersuchungsschwerpunkt liegt auf den miteinander konkurrierenden Wortbildungen auf hex- und zauber-, die im analysierten Schriftstück parallel auftreten und deren Verwendung sich oft sogar überlappt. Es handelt sich dabei sowohl um Bezeichnungen des beschriebenen Schadenzaubers als auch um die Benennung von Personen, die eines solchen Delikts bezichtigt werden. Die Analyse zeigt an konkreten Beispielen auf, bei welchen Bildungen das Stammmorphem hex- und in welchen das Stammmorphem zauber- dominieren.About witches and sorceresses in the early modernwitchcraft trial records from Grünberg in Lower Silesia 1663–1665This paper is a systematic linguistic analysis at the lexical level of 17th century witch trial protocols from Grünberg in Lower Silesia, today Zielona Góra in Poland. The focus of this investigation is the analysis of word formations with the word stems hex- and zauber-. Both formations occur in parallel and their usage frequently even overlaps. The aim of this paper is both the analysis of the denominations of wizardry crime as well as the designations of people who were accused of such crimes. The analysis presents in which word formations and contexts the word stems hex- and zauber- dominate.

Some remarks on past treks to Śnieżka in the Karkonosze Mountains The article is devoted to the earliest period 17th–18th centuries of treks to Śnieżka in the Karkonosze Mountains. The period ended with the first manifestations of pre-Romantic and Romantic interest in the mountain Caspar David Friedrich, Theodor Körner, Kazimierz Brodziński, which will not be discussed here. The author analyses entries in the Śnieżka guest books published in 1737 in Jelenia Góra as Vergnügte und unvergnügte Reisen auf das Weltberuffene Schlesische RiesenGebirge welche von 1696 bis 1737. Theils daselbst den Allerhöchsten zu preisen, theils die erstaunenden Wunder der Natur zu betrachten, theils sich eine Gemüthsvergnügung oder Leibesbewegung zu machen, theils den beruffenen Riebezahl auszukundschafften, von allerhand Liebhabern angestellet worden sind. Die sich den zu einem beständigen Andenken in die daselbst befindlichen Schneekoppen-Bücher Namentlich und meistens mit beyläufigen merkwündigen Gedanken in gebundener Rede eingeschrieben haben. The adaptation of post-industrial building allows for solving problems connected with the protection of relics and is useful in the process of providing order to the cultural landscape. However, the adaptation of historic buildings is associated with many problems. At the same time, the conservation, architectural, construction, technological requirements and the investor's ideas must be met. Meeting all conditions at the same time is a difficult task, but possible. The change in the way that a historic building is used requires a series of preliminary studies of the building to be carried out. The article presents the results of the diagnosis of the technical conditions preceding the adaption of a former factory in Zielona Góra.

<p>Lead, as a heavy metal, is harmful to living organisms (both plants and animals) and it is relatively mobile in the environment. In this article we present the results of the monitoring of the lead content in local allotment gardens (Zielona Góra, Poland). We examined both the total and the phytoavailable form. Soil samples were collected in eight places in the allotment gardens, and two places in the neighbourhood of the allotment gardens. The lead content in the soil met the Polish soil ground standards (Regulation by the Minister of the Environment of 9.09.2002). The total content of lead varied from 21 to 39 mg kg-1, (12–14 mg kg-1 at reference point) and the form potentially available for plants from 10 to 19 mg kg-1 (6–7 mg kg-1 at reference point). The content of lead does not exceed the threshold values according to Polish law.</p><p> </p><p>Ołów, jako metal ciężki, jest szkodliwy dla organizmów żywych (zarówno roślin jak i zwierząt) I jest względnie ruchliwy w środowisku. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań monitoringowych dot. zawartości ołowiu ogólnego oraz przyswajalnego w glebach ogródków działkowych Zielonej Góry. Próbki glebowe pobrano z 8 miejsc w obrębie ogrodów oraz z 2 miejsc referencyjnych zlokalizowanych w sąsiedztwie ogrodów. Zawartość ołowiu w glebach nie przekraczała wartości progowych wyznaczonych wg prawa polskiego, przyjętego w zarządzeniu Ministra Środowiska z dnia 9 września 2002 r. Zawartość ołowiu całkowitego wahała się od 21 do 39 mg kg-1, (12–14 mg kg-1 w punkcie referencyjnym) a ołowiu w formie potencjalnie dostępnej dla roślin od 10 do 19 mg kg-1 (6–7 mg kg-1 w punkcie referencyjnym).</p>

The article presents the results of the basic physical and chemical indicators of water quality in the upper and lower reaches of the river Obrzyca. Assessment of water quality is important because of located at the estuary part of the river water intake surface for Zielona Góra . The water from the initial reaches has been qualified to III class of water quality based on the achieved results. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment from 22 October 2014 on the classification of surface water bodies and environmental quality standards for priority substances (OJ 2014 pos. 1482), samples of water taken from Obrzyca classify this part of river to II class of quality. According to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment of 27 November 2002 on the requirements to be met by surface water used for public supply of water intended for human consumption (OJ 2002 No. 204, item. 1728), Obrzyca’s water belong to A3 category of water taken to consume by people.
